Hi, I'm Charlotte Dobre. I'm an actor, reactor, singer and sometimes (not really) comedian. On this channel I do reactions, commentary and occasionally I make a joke or two. I love poking fun at social media, weddings, entitled people, tiktok and OF COURSE petty people. I upload daily, usually 7 days a week, unless life gets crazy or I get lazy. @@annettewissinglaursen4280 what a leap, just because she's overreacting while *on her period* means that she can't handle her emotions well? She immediately recognises that her behaviour was "psycho", something a lot of people wouldn't be able to admit. That *is* handling emotions, being able to feel the feelings and let them out and then being able to say "I overreacted, sorry". Suppressing emotions just leads to bad stuff down the road

My ex husband ignored my 40th birthday, no birthday wishes, no card, no gift. I said nothing the whole day hoping and waiting for him to do something! That night I let him know how upset I was for him forgetting or ignoring my birthday. He got really angry, he informed me that he and his family had decided to celebrate my birthday on a more convenient day and planned a surprise party for me for the following Saturday. So, he figured with that plan in place he didn't need to actually acknowledge my actual birth DAY. He then called me ungrateful and shamed me for getting upset! The AUDACITY! One of the many reasons he's now my ex!

Knowing how much I hate surprises my cousin planned a surprise 30th bday party for me. I was so pissed off everyone was “too busy” to join me for birthday drinks I shut off my phone, went out and got sh*tfaced all by myself. I got home late, really loaded, bitter af and when everyone jumped out I just went in my bedroom, slammed the door and passed out. The next morning I could tell by the big mess and half the guests passed out everywhere that the party went on without me. When I told my cousin he had to clean up all the mess he was genuinely surprised, (Uno Reverse Card.)

We threw a surprise party for my mom one year. The only reason it worked and she enjoyed it was because NO ONE PRETENDED TO FORGET IT WAS HER BDAY. Literally everyone either sent her messages, posted on her fb or called her wishing her a happy birthday. We also told her we were having a small get-together at my aunt's house....she just wasn't expecting 25+ people when she got there lol

I think another way it can work is - still don’t pretend to forget because that’s horrible - but tell them you have a fun thing planned at a club or like a mini golf course or something and that y’all are gonna meet up at ____ house/apartment, etc. don’t say it’ll be only like a few people but don’t give away how many people will be there!
That way, they know to get ready, and they would be prepared for an event! Bonus points if you have a surprise party planned AFTER going to what you originally said was the plan! No one has to look forward to golf or the club (or whatever) and not get to go, they just get an added party!

We gave my mom a surprise party on her 50th and invited all her siblings. (she had lots of them, came from a pretty big family!) She thought we were just going out to dinner, just the 4 of us in the immediate family. When she heard a bunch of people outside making noise, she looked out the window and saw everyone starting to sing HB. She cried - happy tears! We just did it again on her 90th, but she only had 1 sister left, but plenty of friends! She cried again - happy tears. Totally surprised both times!

I think the key is the party was thrown in a public place. I feel like so many people hate surprise parties because they’re going home ready to relax only to be bombarded by a ton of people. You take them out to eat or a bar, etc. they already are in the headspace that they’re going out to have fun with people. The surprise ends up being there were more people than they thought! Lol I did it to my husband for his 30th and he loved it! Told him we were going out for drinks with some of my fam and he showed up to tons of friends and family! It was great!

The day before they kept asking my what my favorite cake is and when I ask them why they answered 'secret' the day of my birthday two waited for me by the school gate and had me wear a blindfold... Surprise parties aren't usually my thing, but I'm really proud of the one for my late dad's last birthday. He passed away this year (extremely aggressive cancer) and last year he turned 65. My brother and I wanted to reunite him with all of his cousins and siblings, who'd not been in the same room for decades. As brother's fiancee was pregnant, we told dad it was a baby shower, put it the weekend before and complained the party room wasn't available any other time. We told him it was family only but not exactly who was coming. We got video messages from out of province cousins. When he walked in, we yelled "Happy Birthday" and he immediately SCOLDED US. "No no, it's their day!" We laughed and explained it was a ruse. Then he saw the photos on the wall, his aunt, who never leaves home, sitting there... and the cousins... and had a really amazing birthday. Storytelling, laughs, a playlist of songs I made (one for every year he was alive). He deserved that joy. I joked it was like that movie Big Daddy - "we wasted the good surprise on you".

Gosh this is giving me trauma flashbacks. We planned a surprise party for my grandmother's 60th birthday (she loves surprises FYI). My cousin, Barb (mother's sister's daughter, also a granddaughter) lives out west on the other side of the country, 4000 miles away. There was no way she could make it (she expects other people to pay her way, but anyway. Knowing how jealous Barb gets, I told my mother not to tell them about the party until after it happened. My mother, always wanting to see the good in everyone, tells my cousin "so she doesn't feel left out" but says its okay because Barb promised not to tell.
The day of the surprise comes. I spend hundreds of dollars on food, the cake, presents and gas getting my grandmothers elderly siblings and friends all to the venue. Everyone hides and we do the whole SURPRISE thing.
My grandmother has no reaction. Like absolutely none. Just kind of goes "oh thanks". I know something's up because she loves surprises and with all her friends and family there she would normally be delighted, happy crying and hugging everyone.
I find out later on that Barb called my grandmother the night before and told her about the surprise. I was SO angry. I knew this would happen. It's been 15 fucking years and I'm still mad at Barb for ruining what turned out to be our grandmother's last birthday.

For an entire year she thus he was a year older than she actually was. Then she was sad because she realized she missed her entire year of being 51 by thinking she was 52. Funniest shit ever. She just turned 71 in September. We still give her crap about forgetting her age. I once heard a story about a surprise b-day party done (presumably) right. As I was told, the young man in question wasn't used to get huge gifts or a lot of attention, so everyone congratulated him in the morning, he got a nice sweater and thought that was it. But in the evening he was unexpectedly taken to a restaurant where his family threw him a proper party. It's not obligatory to be a jerk to your loved one so that you could feel good about yourself for pranking them later.

My surprise party was that Monday, and was ruined by seeing my sister showing up late as usual, outside of a venue that she would never go to. I had gone there to mope and spent the entire evening salty that I lost my birthday weekend because everyone had lied to me. My party was 2 hours at an expensive bar with no food and a guest list I didn't choose. Overall I appreciated the thought and can say I enjoyed myself, but never again. If you do throw a surprise party, do it BEFORE their birthday. Threw a surprise party for a young lady in our youth group one time AFTER her birthday. We did not pretend to forget at all, but usually, we would make some kind of plans with her (movies, restaurant, etc...). We didn't make any other plans than the surprise party so she just thought no one cared about her enough to do something with her. It was aweful. I felt terrible. Never again. If the person likes surprises (some of us do), then do the party EARLY.

At school in the week leading up to it, it was spilt so many times by people asking about party details and me giving the "shutupshutupshutup" look. My friend was often not paying attention to things going on around her, so she actually never picked it up.
She thought she was just coming over for a sleepover and was pretty excited when everyone jumped out and yelled "surprise". She metioned it every now and then over the years. It's a nice memory becuase we had a falling out when we were 30 and she has passed on, now.

I surprised my mom with a party when she got to come home after almost 2 decades of being in another country (she couldn’t go home until then). We didn’t know how to pull off the surprise without mentioning that there’s a party because I booked an appointment with a salon to do her hair and makeup and I also bought her a nice dress. The party was scheduled around lunch time and her plane touched down at 6am. So after breakfast I just told her that there were some people excited to see her again, so we have to go to the salon to get her hair and makeup done and asked her to put on the dress I bought which she loved. So it wasn’t a totally secret party. The surprise elements were the hair and makeup, the dress, the people who were gonna be at the party (I enlisted the help of a representative of each group of her friends/relatives because I didn’t know most of them) and got to gather around a hundred people to attend the party. So she didn’t expect the party to be huge (I had to rent a venue, hire a caterer, and styled the venue to make it festive). When she saw the whole setup with everyone welcoming her she screamed with delight like a little girl. I asked my uncle to hand her a large bouquet of flowers (my dad was unfortunately already in heaven at this point) and at some point in the party I showed a surprise video of people (who couldn’t make it to the party) giving her a heartfelt message.
The whole thing was a lot of work to set up and it wasn’t super perfect, but she was very happy with all the surprises and that’s what matters. ✌🏻

I feel, if you want to do a surprise birthday party, you should arrange things with friends and family to greet the birthday person (while acknowledging their birthday) and do nice things during the day, like inviting them to a café and buying them coffee (and if they're working give them something during their break). Then when they go home they'll be in a happier mood (unless work made it bad). But only if they are the type of person to like surprise birthdays.

Dude I absolutely hate surprises, and surprise parties.
Despite the fact I have told people I hate surprises and especially surprise parties, I still got thrown one.
It just felt incredibly awful. The surprise party was thrown a day before my birthday- completely ignoring the fact that I had already planned on what I wanted to do on my actual birthday. Instead of having that relaxed, laid back birthday I’d wanted to have- I had to entertain all my friends and family… and then they spent the night when I was wholly unprepared for them to do so.
When my actual birthday came around I was completely alone. It was the absolute worst and I spent the entire day feeling so alone and like nobody understood and actually loved me.
It’s up there for worst birthday I’ve ever had. Whenever I asked them to never do that to me ever again and that I was really hurt by it, they turned it around and made me feel like I was selfish. They said, “but you enjoyed it?! You were smiling?”
I just hated it and I hate how I was made to feel bad for daring to dislike something I never even wanted or asked for. Even all these years later I’ve never gotten even one apology for it from anyone involved.

When I first started dating my bf, I clearly stated that I hate surprises. I dislike them because, during my childhood, most surprises that happened were typically bad things happening, so I hate all surprises now and the initial reaction I always have is reflexively either agitated or indifferent.
His thought process was "Because her hate for them came from bad things, I just need to make sure my surprises for her are good things!"
No, hun, that's not how it works - I already spelled it out for you.
A for effort, ig. No more surprises for me. I do surprises for him tho, since he loves them. And I compromise by letting him do little surprises cuz he loves it so much.

The best way to surprise someone for a surprise birthday, is to acknowledge: the birthday, take them for coffee or brunch or something, give them a small present, and let them think that this was their whole day. Then surprise them with a full on party - IF THEY LIKE PARTIES! I don't like parties so it wouldn't be fun for me, but y'know.

I've always thought the best way to handle a surprise Bday party is to do it the night before. However, the best surprise I've been a part of was for a coworker to celebrate her passing her citizenship test. It was awesome, and very well received. (Also, it was at work during lunch, no 'unexpected' people, and she did not have to worry about any clean up.)

Every year mum tries to make it a 'surprise' that she's bought a cake for whoever's birthday it is. At this point it's more of a surprise if she forgets. We just accept it even though we know it's going to happen. She's not exactly sly about it, either. You can hear her gathering the rest of the family into the kitchen, then she sends one person in because "Mum wants you in the kitchen for something" and yeah, cue Happy Birthday song. XD

My husband surprised me with our wedding!!! Even had my sister help, and to be honest, I don’t have the greatest family, and after Covid and many MANY insane things postponing it, he didn’t want me worrying or stressing over anything, my sister made our cake, my bouquet (which was honestly the most beautiful I have ever seen) I already had a dress for 3 years (thankfully it fit perfectly still) and I was told at 10am that the preacher would be there at noon. And it was perfect. It wasn’t about what my family wanted. It wasn’t about which family member hated who said they wouldn’t show up. If they were there in the other person wouldn’t show up if that person was there. it was about him and me and the love we have shared for the last four years all the ups and downs that we have weathered together celebrating everything we have gotten through with each other, because of each other. I have video evidence to prove it too, and the shock and joy are DEFINITELY obvious 😂, but I wouldn’t change it for the most expensive wedding in the world, it was us! ❤

The best way to initiate a surprise party would honestly be to wake your friend up with a birthday text, take them out and keep them busy with fun things like breakfast, or a walk or shopping or something. Have an amazing day with them while the others prepare. Tell them your next plans are coming, but it's a surprise. At this point, and this point only when the friend has agreed to take part in the surprise is it okay to walk them into something like this.

I once threw a surprise baby shower for my sister. We held it on my brother's birthday, about 7 weeks before her due date, in the party room at the restaurant where he was manager. We told my sister that it was a surprise party for my brother, and that his wife had made arrangements with the regional management to pretend to hold a managers meeting in that party room. That kind of thing happened often enough that it was plausible. She walked in all dressed up with a gift for my brother. She loved it, once she realized it was really for her.
