    The app is pretty good. The best thing about it? NO ADS!!! The Weather Channel app free version is HORRENDOUS when it comes to ads, and it pesters you incessantly to purchase the ad free version that gives you somewhat useless information. I do wish we had the ability to add more map filters for cycling, transit etc. The open in maps feature is not very helpful. I'd also like to be able to change the transparency of the overlays as they are too dense and nebulous at the same time.

    I kept thinking the bars represented the temp through the day. As in: left being start of day and right being end of day.
    Now they finally make sense!!
    Surprised they don’t have an explanation within the app when they’re so unintuitive!

  • @just.bob.j
    @just.bob.j 2 года назад +2

    Apple should give us the ability to change the temperature to "feels like". That is the temperature that matters to outside workers... you don't dress for the temperature, you dress for what it feels like.

  • @perrysamoyloff2502
    @perrysamoyloff2502 2 года назад +2

    Those bars also indicate the temperature spread for each day. So a longer bar means a wider spread. In countries like Jordan you should see hot daytime temperatures and cold nighttime temperatures. If you are going to be out for a long day you would dress accordingly for the temperature range of any particular day. A short bar should mean that the forecasted temperature won’t vary much and so the clothing you plan to use could be made up of less articles. Also one bar (somewhere in the forecast) will start from the farthest point on the left indicating the coldest day in the forecast and another bar will end on the far right indicating the warmest day in the forecast. Not sure how useful but this feature became an interesting discovery for me when months ago I was trying to figure out what the bars meant!

Gary's presentation inspired me enough that I put the Apple "Weather" app back into my Home screen folder. Why more than one, especially when most of the base data comes from one or two locations? I found out while vacationing in Yosemite that the best way to make important decisions is to view more than one app (when critical three) and then average them.

    The Problem with Apple (or us) is that we need for every apple app a tutorial nowadays. For example I had no idea for what the lines in the middle stand for. We need tutorials for the Messenger, Finder, Photos, Maps, ..., even Notes. it says the coldest it will be of the day is 34 when i scroll down to the 10 day temperature reading, but when looking at the hourly forecast, the coldest i see is 39 at 7am. what gives?! is that 34 a guestimate or a “feels like” type thing?
    plus, why is rain/storms never accurate,.? it’ll say “70% chance of rain” but that will either mean 0% (barely sprinkling) or 100% (thunder and lightening), no in between. super frustrating!!!!!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Год назад

      Are you looking AT 7 am? Then perhaps it was 34 earlier in the morning, but the hourly shows from now until 24 hours from now. Or maybe this is the low coming later tonight. Those hourly forecasts are for the average temp for that hour, vs the high/low which is the high and low, not the average. Maybe ask a meteorologist about these to better understand forecasts. These aren't special "Apple" forecasts here, they are from Yahoo weather and the data comes from similar sources to your local weather news and national news, etc.

      @@macmost yes, you are right that the source data is not the correct data. Even though the location is set correctly to Adelaide, the weather always reads wrong because Apple doesn’t use the official Australian Bureau of Meteorology source data. Instead it uses some other American organisation. That’s why it’s never correct. Supposedly the BOM charges too much. It’s not just Apple, by the way. Microsoft’s weather app, as well as every open source Linux app is also always wrong by the exact same amount! That’s why we always need to install native Australian weather apps that use BOM source data on our iPhones and iPads. Unfortunately, there is no longer one I can find for the Mac. So I just resort to using a shortcut to the Adelaide forecast page on the BOM site for my Mac. You think I’m joking? Have a look yourself Gary. This could be a commercial opportunity for a developer to make a Mac app that actually uses BOM data and gives the correct weather in Australia. The data come from Weather.com, the app just displays it. Does it show you something different there? Are you sure you have it set to the right location? It isn't magic, it is just relaying the weather forecast from that site.
