    Your thumbnails are uniform and precisely you. They are no frills and direct. They fit your personality and your brand.

    OMG, if I had a dollar for every time a potential customer or a friend suggested a particular scent or type of soap that i should make...and I make it...and no one buys it.....I would be rich. I will never, never, ever make a batch of soap that someone suggest I make again........ unless they commit, as in place an order, for a custom made loaf of soap. You are soooooo correct.

    • @KaraBuntin
      @KaraBuntin  Месяц назад +2

      Yeah, telling people that you'll do that batch if they place an order for it ahead of time will weed those requests out!

    I’ve been very lucky in that the resin tumblers I actually enjoy making are also ones that folks are interested in buying. At first (5 years ago), I would offer up for sale any style tumbler that I had made a YT video about because that made some sort of sense to me, especially since the YT channel drove customers to my store. But I quickly realized that many of the more ambitious things I tried in videos were not easy to replicate. So I winnowed my list of offerings way down. I don’t get as many sales (surprise!), but when an order comes in, I also don’t immediately dread which design it might be 😁

      The lack of dread is a good thing.

      Of course, but it’s unrealistic to think you’re going to love every minute of it

    I found the part around buyology super interesting, i am definitely going to read it. But it makes total sense. I once watched a video where they looked at data they obtained from a survey on buyers on etsy and what they valued. I remember that the answers made no sense to me, because it sounded like they only said what they thought would sound good and not what i could observe from buyers. There is always an "ideal self" and what i think would be good and correct to say and there is "real self" that is egoistic most of the time and just wants the best value for what they paid. Thats why its really dangerous to orient your shop towards "what customers value" if its based on unauthentic data.

      I 100% distrust anything that asks people directly about what they would do. It’s never right.

    Very informative. I really like it when you have short (ish) segments with a point. The hour-plus things are too long for me many times, since I'd rather work than watch a lengthy video. Thank you for this one.

      The hour-long ones are the lives, so they're defintiely more freeform!

      @@KaraBuntin about forty minutes from start to finish and I sell em for $25, not too shabby given the negligible cost of materials and the fact that I can do them with my eyes closed for 90% of it(so I'll often watch or listen to something else, like your videos or an audiobook) 👍

    Twenty years selling online and I am DONE trusting other platforms for consistency and income, Etsy's stunt this week was the last straw. Thanks for your pearls of wisdom Kara, time has come to focus on my websites and build my neglected email newsletters. 🙂

      @@laurabillson1870 Just a bunch of restricting shops in search after saying they hadn't done anything wrong, or shutting shops down before they even listed anything. The usual, with no explanation.

    My website and email list being my hub, honestly, that sounds soooo much more manageable!
    I've been resistant to starting an email list because its "yet another thing" with likely little paypff, buuuuuut im already trying to set my website up in such a way that i blog weekly and schedule all of my socials off of THAT for ease. I wonder if a monthly newsletter with the month's posts would be ideal? Hmmmm. Do you have any videos or courses on email marketing/starting a newsletter? Unlike MANY other creators out there, I actually trust you're opinions- nearly everyone else feels super fake(there's only one other person in this space who i feel is legit, which is pitiful).

      I used to have an email course but I stopped selling it because it was too much of a pain to keep up with the changes on the email platform. I can do some videos about it on my tutorials channel, though.
