I love this content! To add to what you said about logos/brands, I heard a branding specialist (can’t think of his name at the moment) once point out that the difference between Nike and Hyatt is that one is a brand and the other is a logo. Consumers know Nike as a brand and have expectations, but Hyatt is just a logo of some hotel that’s like every other hotel in that price point. So, just like you’re saying, make sure to consistently convey who your business is and what the customer should expect, and especially what makes you special!

Food for thought Kara, thank you! I try to keep my shops & website cohesive in their appearance, and think about what customers want to see.

Love the story about the news anchor. Peter Jennings, one of my all time favorites, was pretty much the same with the outfits.
Thanks for this. It is something I am currently working on with my business.

Thank you Kara! I always like your stories, they make me chuckle.
I used to be a kitchen designer. When I was getting ready in the morning, I would look in the mirror and ask.... 'Would I hand over $15,000 to this person?' If the answer was no, I reworked my 'presentation.' Haha

I really enjoyed Boston the short time I was there! Copley Plaza, Faneuil Hall, haven't heard anyone mention Jordan Mahsh in a very long time!!
I appreciate this info about presentation, makes it clearer than lots of other branding discussions I've heard.

Thanks for watching! I don't know how long ago Macy;s bought JM but the store I worked at was Macy's 9 or 10 years ago, so it's been a while.

Jordan Marsh in Framingham (or was it Natick) was my moms favorite store. My dad got a promotion/transfer to Wisconsin in 1968 when I was 16, so I have no idea if Jordan Marsh is still in business or not.

It's not, Macy's bought them years ago. I was in Boston abut 8 years ago and the store I worked in had been converted to a Macy's at that point.

Is it better to have a lower price and sell more? Or have a higher price and sell less? I’ve been selling my digital bundle for around $50USD and I sold maybe 3-4 a month. I decided last week to lower my bundle to $30 and have sold 4 this week alone.
My competitors have over 100k sales and their listings are $3 each. My listings are higher quality and I price them at $5 but have only have 20k sales in the same time. Shall I lower my listings to $3 to match competitors and sell more? I do feel like “sales” number on the homepage influences buyers and Etsy would push my listings more if they sell more. Appreciate your opinion

If you’re dealing with digital then selling more is always better because you’ve already done the work. But dropping the price too low will drop your profits and also devalues the entire category because people see the super low prices and assume that that’s what digital listings are worth. People on Etsy price digital things really low, so don’t copy that, but if you’re the one who’s a lot more expensive you probably won’t sell as much. It’s walking a tightrope.
