If you need to take a part-time job to supplement your income, working for a company that does something relatable to your craft, can be very helpful. It’s amazing how many skills I picked up that now relate to my business.
When I was in college in the mid 70's, I got a monthly allowance of maybe $50 or less for personal stuff (toothpaste, etc). One day I overheard another girl calling her rich father "hey, pop, I need $500 this week." And I was floored! Our military family grew up frugally while also attending private school with those rich kids who went to country clubs, beach clubs, pony clubs, etc etc...
My husband grew up poor but thanks to the military paying for college, he got a great career to support us while I was a SAHM. I continue to be the frugal one, but since he made money, he liked to spend because he couldn't before!
Understanding the difference in financial backgrounds is so important in knowing how we deal with it now.
The book, "Money Is Love" is about healing your beliefs surrounding money. A good read.
I don't really worry about profit margins in my handmade business so long as it's not losing money. So much is out of my control right now with the state of the world economy and I would rather enjoy the creativity than be tied to it. To back it up I have a number of side hustles that help pay the bills and keep my working life interesting. I don't like routine, I get bored so having my irons in lots of small fires keeps me focused.

Great advice Kara, it's important to remember why we're doing this in the first place; to give ourselves the life we want, and be able to support ourselves doing what we love!
