What you say is very true. In much the same way Treadwell projected his emotions and views onto the bears, Herzog did the same thing.
It’s fascinating how we see ourselves or our biases in the eyes of wild animals.

Then why were both of them almost completely consumed? Fast forward and just killing a threat ! That bear was still not in hibernation because it was still hungry and waiting to get to the proper body fat content prior to going into full hibernation.

No they will murder other cubs to bring the mother back in heat so he can breed her.
Bears most definitely murder strange cubs so he can then breed the mother and pass his genes.
The only reason they kill strange cubs is to have a good time with mom !!!

    • @twinkletoes6290
      @twinkletoes6290 4 дня назад +2

@@georgebella3139 OP stated they kill to exterminate a threat OR to eat, that’s it.
He did NOT say they ONLY kill to exterminate a threat. He said they kill for TWO reasons - 1) to exterminate a threat and 2) to eat bc they’re hungry.
So, not sure what you’re on about in your comment.
From the description of the audio, it sounds like the initial bear that encountered and attacked Treadwell attacked bc it felt threatened. As it did NOT initially begin to attack to eat, but actually walked away initially, returning bc Treadwell got up and he & his girlfriend seemed to do just about everything they should NOT have done in that situation!!
The bear attacked until Treadwell was no longer a threat to him, meaning he was almost dead or actually dead. His girlfriend had hit the bear w a frying pan repeatedly as it was attacking Treadwell. Then, she fled, as Treadwell urged her to as he was still being attacked and was dying. Her running most likely caught the bears attention and triggered it to give chase and take her down. Though we don’t know the specifics of how she was killed, as there was no audio to her last minutes alive.
Once both were killed and no longer seen as a threat to the bear that initially attacked them, that bear along w multiple others consumed Treadwell and his girlfriend, as it was late in the season, right before they were going into hibernation (some had already gone into hibernation). So they had hyperphagia and were consuming what they could up until the last minute to prepare for winter and hibernation.
The attack on Treadwell and his girlfriend was two pronged. The initial attack and killing, as they were seen as a threat. Then they were consumed by multiple bears, as the bears were experiencing hyperphagia that late in the season, preparing to go into hibernation, and there was now a source of food readily and freely available that no bear would willingly pass up on!

@@HomeInWildSpaces Ehi man, I know It sucks to put so much time and effort in a video without reaching an enjoyable number of views.
I really appreciate this project you delivered and the scientific way you approached the matter, being both respectful but not lame nor cringely cinematographic.
Unfortunately, RUclips is not so happy when some images are shown in the video of its platforms/ when some words are used in their scripts, titles or descriptions.
I think that's why the video is not pushed as the other videos where you discuss bears' attacks.
Also, I think the thumbnail is great but the title could not immediately grip the topic you are gonna talk about (I admit that, without the thumbnail, It confused me too).
      Also, It's very long.
People on RUclips usually read the first words.
It is really important to check if your public is in the majority composed by English speakers or not, you may use simpler words in the second case.
Maybe someone flagged manually your video?
I mean, the problem may not be related to anything I've said until now, but I still wanted to warn you about it, you never know.
      Thank your for your work!
Sorry if I keep saying "man" but I don't remember your name, I'm so sorry xD
Ps. One last thumbnail advice : even if using a human face creates more interaction with a potential viewer, and you nailed it using a famous image such as the cover of "Grizzly man", using too many words in a thumbnail can be problematic.
They may not be well readable from afar, they may occupy too much space, It's better to use between 4 to 5 words max.
Better not using them, if you ask me.
But more than anything, the lower right of the thumbnail will be covered by the time duration of the video, so It could also cut the text or whatever there is there.
Again, I hope I didn't sound rude or conceited, It's an amazing video and I'd like it to see it more widespread 🦾

Try those tricks in Banff National Park or Kananaskis Park of Alberta and see what happens. Of course the second bear was curious, Timothy made it that way. And you killed it instead of spraying? not much of a hunter or preserver of wildlife now are they. He didn't die for the bears....he died because of the bears. This is a very objective review of Treadwell's delusional thinking and subsequent demise, which also led to the death of his girlfriend.
My Native name is Kiasax which means Bear on the Left. My name does NOT give me any powers to understand bears.
My amazing wife was a zoologist in her first career and found working with bears was more dangerous than working with big cats. She's told me that bears were far more difficult to read than big cats. Her quote was funny to me, "Bears lie." Meaning that bears hid their emotions.
She's right, too. In every encounter I've had with bears, reading them wasn't possible. Avoiding bears was always the most prudent way to survive. Some are just cranky because perpetual toothache from fighting for instance. The ‘grizzly man’ despite his intentions did more harm to those bear by accustoming them to being close to humans as the interaction with the tourists proof. How he failed to see that his ego was bigger than his will to protect them was his biggest flaw in my opinion and cost the live of two bears besides that of his friend sadly. @@hermanrosenbrand2275 Grammar violations notwithstanding, I like this comment for the most part. I dont agree that blame goes to Treadwell for the death of his friend. She was an adult. A functional human with self awareness and she is the only person responsible for her choices and actions, unless they are made under extreme duress and/or force. She CHOSE to go back out there with him. Also, I think criminal responsibility is an interesting topic. For example, a person can be found not guilty of a crime if they are judged to be Insane, or to have been at the time of the crime. So, why wouldn’t that apply to Treadwell with his delusions and likely rampant Autism? I know this is not a court case. But society reflects its leadership in many ways and same moral code that dictates to our Judicians and Legislative branches, if not the Executive as well, of our government, also is adopted by the majority of Americans, especially if they are not first generation immigrants that are relatively new.

@@hermanrosenbrand2275 Oh yeah, I get that it was not a simple choice. Many factors might have been taken into consideration. She loved him. Its very possible that her not wanting him to be back out there alone, because of her love for him and possibly she understood that he had delusions and that his thinking was dictated by emotion and mental illness primarily was influential in her decision, and HER decision it was. In that case, it would be most likely that SHE herself was guilty of this inability or unwillingness of the people of our time and culture specifically to place responsibility on the individual performing the action or thought. She would have been thinking Treadwell was unable to decide in a sound manner. This is almost certainly the case. The problem arises when she assumes that responsibility and determines to control the situation to get what she wants. This thought process is repeated between our government and the populace. Instead of allowing free markets, free trade, Rule of Law, The Constitution, etc to serve their purposes and then accept the accept the outcome with responsibility for each individual lying with the individual, the government says, for example, “if we dont force taxpayers to fund the Dept of Education, many parents wont get their children educated.” Once again, that is most likely true. But whose responsibility is it to make that choice. Not to mention that Federal funding for education is raised through an income tax that is grossly unconstitutional because it does not allow for the choice to opt out by not participating in the benefits/detriments either, instead of the sales tax which does allow choice and is constitutional. So this lack of personal responsibility and accountability directed inward or outward is the scourge of our time.

I suspect that investigators are overthinking things, and that the bear's intentions were predatory right from the start. The short hiatus can be explained by uncertainty on the bear's part. Allegedly, one of the sounds on the tape was the bear's canine teeth scratching at Treadwell's skull. The bear was trying to deliver the signature coup de grace preferred by both _Ursus arctos_ and _Ursus maritimus._ However, the bear's canine teeth were too worn down to offer purchase, and Treadwell's skull kept slipping out of grasp. The supposition that Amie's screams triggered predatory behavior makes no sense at all. The bear knew perfectly well what he was attacking. After all, bears rank right up there with dolphins, elephants, and anthropoid apes when it comes to sheer brain power. Sorry, dog fans. It's not even close! The only reason the bear backed off was to reassess and come up with a better plan. Humans are not natural prey and quite often, when a cougar, wolf, bear, tiger, or even great white shark decides to prey on a human for the first time, the attack can often be described as 'poorly thought out' or 'clumsy'. Situations like the "Shark in the pond!" scene in the film Jaws can only be attributed to carnivores that have become experienced and refined manhunters - as creepy as that is. There was a cougar down in California that preyed on humans by hunkering down beside a cycling trail. The cat would pounce, kill the cyclist, leave the bicycle where it was, and drag the corpse away to stash. The cougar obviously 'went into his settings and hit repeat', because he would go right back to the edge of the trail and wait for the next poor sucker. The first kill was clumsy and awkward, the second went a little quicker, and by the third, the cat was starting to get the hang of it. The trick was to bite lower on the human neck than he normally would on a deer neck. The large, bulbous human skull tends to get in the way, and human vertebrae are the wrong distance apart for a cougar's upper canines (cougars evolved to hunt cervidae). The possibility that the cougar figured that out on his own while crouched and waiting is not farfetched at all.

@HomeinWildSpaces You know, there was a former Katmai park ranger who knew Treadwell in the comments section of another popular RUclips video, and if you could find that thread, he put out some really pertinent info that hasn't appeared anywhere before. He made a statement that heavily implied that Treadwell had gotten bears killed before he even died, in the 13 years leading up to that finale. From what the ranger said, a few of the bears were exhibiting behavior that showed they were habituated to humans, and that was concerning enough that the rangers put the bears down. He implied that the rangers believed that it had to do with Treadwell.
The ranger also said that they couldn't legally keep Treadwell out of the park because they would have needed a judge's court order, which was next to impossible for them to get. It sounded like the judges were too skittish to do that back in that day. Not sure why, but maybe it had to do with being too skittish to remove somebody's right to public land without some extreme cause. The ranger said that things didn't change until after Treadwell died.

My biggest issue with this guy, is he got his girlfriend killed. I read she was planning on ending their relationship. Too bad she didn't do it before a bear ended them.
Treadwell wouldn't carry a gun, or even bear spray. If he was willing to be killed that's his choice, but to refuse to protect his partner was unforgivable.

As far as I know Bears do not possess an emotional part of the brain. People like treadwell like to see bears as big harry, fluffy humans, speaking to them with a baby voice and crap like that. Which nothing could be further from the truth. Bears have a brain built to make them survive, that is it! There is no snuggly Wild Bear at all.

I cover that misconception in detail if you watch the full video. We know with certainty that multiple bears fed on Treadwell and Huguenard.
Only a small portion of their missing remains were located inside the bear that was killed.

So last summer i went out to see these bears for myself. We chartered a plane which took us out to an open meadow several miles long. Thete were bears there, many bears. Our group had two guides and four tourists, they took us out to visit and look them over. We got close, about 60 yards but that was it. The bears were out there for the spring grasses which are high in proteins. That was as close as i ever want to be to these guys. This is a big business in Alaska as there were at least ten groups besides us.

I've always found it ironic when the helicopter pilot (Ron Swanson mustache, aviators) goes on about Treadwell anthropomorphizing the bears like children of the universe and then immediately turns around and anthropomorphizes the bears by suggesting they probably thought Treadwell was mentally re***ded. I don't know if anthropomorphizes is actually a word, but you know what I mean.

I live in NW Montana and yes we have grizzlies here. Treadwell showed us two things. 1. you don't have to fear bears if you respect them and their space. 2. What happens to you when you don't.Treadwell crossed that line one too many times, and he paid the ultimate price. I don't fear grizzlies OR black bears because I will never cross that line. I do however, fear mountain lions. Bears are scavengers, lions are preditors. Know the differance. In addition, I allways carry a firearm and a big one, for insurance and I attach bear bells to my dog's collars.

You live in a beautiful place, very similar to where we live in Canada. We are from the Kootenays, one mountain range west of the Rockies. We have since moved to a small lake in the rain forest and mountains of Vancouver Island. We are very familiar with bears and all the wildlife that comes with living in the forest. The black bear population on Vancouver Island is estimated to be between 7,000 and 12,000, making it one of the densest black bear populations in the world. WE LOVE IT! Our families have lived amongst wildlife generationally so we have experience in what signs bears leave and we leave if we see any. We always carry bear spray and have well trained dogs. Firearms stay on the farm. Wild should remain Wild so we do everything possible so bears do not visit our place. Enjoy your beautiful Montana!

The most accurate comment: “His false sense of self importance”, is what blinded him and put himself in danger. He thought that he was a protector of the bears or used that as justification to be around them when actually, he was interfering and harrassing their natural lives. They didn’t need protection, which Tim could’t provide anyway. He would have done them better by staying away. They became accustomed to people which is unsafe for both. There are others, like him , who think they are wildlife heroes and self-described experts. If you speak to them, tell them to stop and that they will die. They all die.

I wrote the 1st comment at the beginning of viewing this presentation, I do it often to see how much my view has been altered by learning a new perspective. Even though I had to look away during the animal attack scenes (like most people, cinema & TV have desensitized me a little to violence on humans, but violence on animals distresses me greatly), I thought this is the best presentation, on any subject, I have seen in a while. It was a very human and well balanced investigation into a very well meaning, but ultimately very flawed human being who found solace and redemption away from societies demons, a sentiment I can understand since I struggle with the same faults, substance and social. I will subscribe and look forward to watching other presentations, I hope your other content is as balanced and well made as this was. Thank you 👍💯👊

Amie really didn’t have any options. She was around 40miles from civilization. She had no defensive tools. There was no place to find shelter. She was surrounded by nothing but bears, alders, wilderness, and horror.
Beyond that. The recording pretty clearly suggests she was attack immediately after Treadwell.
After Treadwell’s death. There was nothing between her and death.

Good job! Very informative & easy to listen to. Timothy Is no different than the rest of us, just flawed in different areas. At least he was visibly trying to make a difference. He brought awareness of nature & wildlife to the forefront. To those who speak ill of him, they are the ones who point fingers and are the most disturbed inside. If you do not try to improve the lives and world around you, then you are part of the problem. In cases where people try to profit off the demise of others, karma is just around the corner. Nice job covering his story.
