DeanMk1+ There are quite a few businesses that reproduce every single part found on a model T Ford. It is actually easier to find remanufactured parts for a model T or A than it is to find remanufactured parts for my 1984 Ford Crown Victoria.

    • @DeanMk1
      @DeanMk1 7 лет назад +3

Of course, Chip. It was more a figure of speech than anything. My point was they were taking a very "business-like" approach, solving the problem by having others pay for it.

Henry Ford also the co-inventor of back yard BBQ briquettes, hence the name Kings-Ford Charcoal. In the early days of the Ford company, the cars used a lot of wood and would have a lot of sawdust left over, Ford and a business partner figured how to to squeeze that sawdust into charcoal for back yard briquettes for outdoor cooking!

I only just found this video. This man lives in my street. The Model T is still in absolute perfect condition. I talked to him about it for a while. They basically take their Model T anywhere and everywhere. It runs great, looks great and the owner is a very nice man. I often see it parked up around his house. Took pictures of it once too. I own a 1983 VW Beetle myself that I talked to him about. He loves it. We both share the same interest in old cars. Much respect to this owner for using his car for what it was meant for. Can't wait to see it again sometime.

A friend told me years ago about his club's trip to Indianapolis from St. Louis for the 100th birthday celebration. It took them several days due to the speed of the Model Ts and that many didn't have working lights so they had to stop early. They had to travel the state highways and not the interstate, so they hit every traffic light and stop sign between the two cities. They had a couple of trailers and trucks as support, plus many spares. A trip that friends of mine and I used to make in roughly 5 hours (in 55 mph days) and can be done under 4 hours today took them about three days to complete.
But he said he wouldn't trade it for anything.
This was an amazing adventure by this couple, to go that far, and to go that long.

I'm driving a Dutch version of the M38A1 Army jeep for about 25 years now.
For a verry long time it was my only and daily driver. If I left from work i always took a lot of attention if i had to clean the seats from snow with a shovel. Although i did never have travelled as far as Dirk and Trudy do i have made my miles, and indeed also had an semitruck crashing into me once.
In my mid 55's and due to health reasons only occasionaly have i ride, preferably with a co-pilot available.
Still i verry clearly understand why Dirk and Trudy take these challenges.

I've already done several cross country (USA) trips on vintage motorcycles, last year it was my 69 Honda CB450, and the first time was on a 72 FLH shovel. 1st was Florida to California and to Iowa where I found my bio dad, I decided to stay. Our friends, Bruce and Diane Davis; and, three other couples did a similar "Around the World" trip, in 1982. They went across the U.S. and then across the pond to the U.K. From there, they went across Europe, to the Middle East, going through Egypt, India, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Then to Singapore and a cruise to Australia, and finally back to California. You can read Diane's book, Passports to Adventure by Diane M. Davis that was published in 1994 and has an ISBN 0-9641026-0-9; and, of course, they would never attempt that drive today, what with the way the world has changed, but back then, it was very exciting.

indeed it's the same range rover (license plate)!
we can see it in their travel photos.

hah, thanks for pointing that out. and you're right, its a car/4wd not a 'truck' . thats not the kind of vehicle used for the industrial haulage of commercial goods. maybe the follower should be more careful next time and not fall asleep/ forget to see whats goin on

Even funnier, at 1:14 it is stuck, when the model T is driving happily!

Good eye. They needed a vehicle to film from, it probably also carried their spare parts and tools.

Just curious about the broken alternator. Model T Fords had generators. What else did they change?

    Really, a Model-T isn't a bad choice for a 'round-the-world trip. They're so utilitarian that they'll tackle about anything.
It also cracks me up that this video is sponsored by Ford, as if anything they make now will be able to go on a world tour in 100 years.

Did anyone else notice the Land Rover that hit them is the same as the one in the background of most of the video. Same red one with the dual spotlights and yellow plate? Perhaps a camera car?

I don't understand how priceless cars are targeted by bad drivers to hit almost all the time These two were having the time of their lives and then one guy decided "let's be a careless driver today"

The Model T still amazes me.
Built like a tank, can still compete with modern cars.
