Don't know what people were thinking was going to be produced. A Jaguar XJ220, Sierra Cosworth, Lotus Esprit. All iconic names from the 80s and 90s but if they were released now would be nothing like the cast iron bodies beasts of before. Cars have moved on and so do some people. All ford have done is released a car under a familiar model name. Looks like a Cayenne in design

My favourite car maker, from the Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo, Escort, Sierra, Granada, the RS, ST and XR models and of course the Cosworths, Ford is almost unrecognisable now with the Puma, Kuga, and this new Capri 😥 obviously only personal preference but I think a few others must feel the same.
Well, we've always got Vauxhall. They're not going down the same road.
Sierra or Cortina might have been more appropriate given they generally had 4 or 5 doors, excepting the lovely early 3 door Sierra's and Cossies.

I don't like to be negative, however I think Ford have missed an opportunity, the Capri was sleek and this most definitely isn't. The front end is really blocky, had Ford designed an electric Capri that was a two or three door coupe I might have been interested. In the same way Dodge's new Charger is a coupe or 4 door saloon (sedan) and as an EV or with a petrol engine, which is brilliant and would have worked in the UK with the Capri. Sadly this is just another electric SUV of which there are far too many on the market already and definitely doesn't meet my needs or interest.
I'm sure the ford design team is doing everything they can to put ford out of business lately 🤣 this can is as much a Capri, as lizzo is a supermodel 😂🤣😂

I don't have their names, but I have seen quite a few of them around and it is better looking than the Ford IMHO.
I owned a capri and drove it with pride it was metallic blue with a darker blue vinyl roof. I think it was 1600 overhead cam.

OK, hold on here a minute, so the Ford Capri was an classic 2-door coupe sport-ish car, a fun car, closest modern car would be like an Supra, MX5, BRZ something like that. So when Ford thought to make a new Capri, they tought we should take an Volkswagen, a 4-door electric Volkswagen and rebadge it as an Ford Capri, what? How could they go so far off track? It has totally derailed.
I guess it probably has drum brakes in the rear, that is a similarity, and it actually has rear wheel drive, but I do not think that was planned similarities, it must have been a really big coincidence.
The car looks totally OK, similar to other modern cars, but why call it that name? Why does not enyone produce a smaller, cheap and economical car like they did before?

@Theodozioos this has a starting price of £48k, I dunno how many people in ‘these times’ are going to be in a position to buy it and it has zero resemblance with the iconic car it has been named after. This is not a sporting coupe, it’s a bloated 5 door SUV so they should have come up with a new name.

Electric cars are the end of driving as true motoring enthusiast and certainly will be the end for the working class. Atleast if my clutch goes it's reasonably cheap to fix in comparison to a faulty battery cell.
You should see what Toyota has. Three very exciting cars with thankfully no electric power at all! Those cars are the GR86, GR Yaris and Supra. Much better.

Ford are entitled to re use names on new models. However, the new model "Capri" does not remind me of the older ones of the 1970s. In fact, this looks to me like a new "Volvo." And yes, the new Volvo does not remind me of their older models either. Still, for all that, they are both nice looking new cars.

This is embarrassing. You can't call that a Capri. Bodie and Doyle's Capri is iconic and such a great design and I recall drawing Capris in school. This has none of the Capri DNA!

As a former owner of a 2014 Ford Focus Ecoboost, I recommend people NOT to buy a Ford as these cars require a lot of regular expensive repairs.
Best go for more reliable and durable Japanese cars like Lexus, Toyota, Honda.
I recommend people to get a Lexus NX - perfect size, perfect suitability, very comfy seats and top quality fuel efficient driving performance.

Eric Cantona, another Classic! Kinda like the car, definitely has traces of the original model. Lets look at it in full scale, it will grow... Still, like said before, cars evolve, it is not expected to be a re-run of the original model. This is to be a mass production vehicle updated to the current reality (which like back then when it was launched, some liked, some didnt). Unlike the re-runs of Escort and RS200.... these will have a very very specific audience. First mistake is thinking everyone thinks like ourselves.
There is a lot I want to tell you about the new ford capri, which is also on a vw platform, but I don't bother. First and foremost, the ford capri has always been a European sports coupe and not an SUV. The only similarity is the C-pillar.

If it isn't a re-run of the original, why use the name and feature a real Capri in the advert? It has more in common with the Galaxy people carrier. Maybe Ford should have used that name.
The car industry as become one of those pre-made white label websites. You just have to insert name and logo, and bam, there’s a new model right there. It takes a lot of disrespect for consumers to pick a standard already used car design, and stamp the name Capri on it. They did the same with the Mustang and Puma. Don’t lie to us, you weren’t inspired by nothing, Ford picked a standard design and then thought about ways of selling that box, using capri as a bait.

These guys turned the Maverick into a pickup truck, the Mustang into an electric SUV ( should not have the Mustang name ) and now we have this hunk of junk they call a Capri. God, what the hell has happened to Ford?! They used to make some really good cars like the Crown Victoria or the Escort. And now this has what it's come down to. Slowly these people are taking the names of such iconic cars and putting them on to electrified SUV's in which look quite ugly. This doesn't even include how they're slowly going all electric with the Ranger and the Ford in progress ( which is really an EV9 with some adjustments ). It is rather truly sick.
