I am proud to say that I am a member of the Mile High Club. Joined it in 1985 with my GF. We came out to a small line of people, and a Flight Attendant (Stewardess back then) with a very knowing look on her face. We went back to our seats and about 20 mins later, the FA came over, whispered "Don't do it again", and handed us little pins. The pin shows two ducks, with flight helmets on, flying together, but they are face to face (bill to bill?). Around the perimeter, it says "Member of the Mile High Club". And NO, I don't have it anymore unfortunately. I have no idea what happened to it but after 40 years, who knows? Maybe someone on here has seen the same one?
Never seem a helmet ducks one, but there are many differently styles of them, most often with wings on either side and some symbolism in the center of the pin. You can buy them anytime now online. Back then you not only had to earn one but be on a flight with someone that had the unofficial (not associated with the airline) pins and were aware of the accomplishment.
Before I heard Dave's answer, I already knew that it had something to do with defecation. Preston's answer is hilarious! Why would someone want to last in an airport (or any public bathroom for that matter) bathroom. 😂 That tase was warranted since they were one point away from losing.
