@@wordsleuth992 I don't think Dr. Grande is prejudiced, but for the sake of playing Devil's Advocate, one could be prejudiced in ways that have nothing to do with ethnicity. Scully from the X-Files was prejudiced in favor of skepticism, for instance. Another example is when Sir Isaac Newton proposed his theory of gravity. Back then the French scientific community was so skeptical of the way his theory seemed to defy materialism that they had a heightened awareness of his other peculiarities, manifesting as a prejudice against him as a person. They thought he was full of b.s. To some degree everyone is full of b.s. But even still, one could have genuine insights, even someone with a strange psychological profile, as in the case of Newton.

Many people think they can jump to meditation "just like that". But they always fail at it because it's not so easy. Patanjali's yoga contains 8 steps / limbs to reach a state called "Samadhi". In those 8 steps, 7th step is "Dhyana" / meditation. One has to literally pass through all the 6 steps to get there. It takes entire life sacrifice to go deep into spirituality. Dear Dr. Grande, This is the first time; I disagree with your analyses. I have taken some of his yoga programs. And can honestly say from personal experience that the yoga practices I’ve learned when committed to doing them every day; I do feel a positive difference. I do finally feel connected to my source energy, and my body aches have disappeared. Best of all, I feel happy and free from life’s daily stresses and minutia. We must never underestimate the power of our mind connected to the power of our physical bodies. The reason he doesn’t answer all questions is because you need to experience his yoga practices in person to truly get it. I have extreme respect for Sadhguru just like I do for you.
Yoga is extremely helpful in certain areas. But I have issues with Sadhguru claiming specifically his program is better because he charges a ridiculous amount of money for what you can possibly get for free on RUclips if you know the right channel to follow. I used to find Dr Grande entertaining. After enough videos where he is harshly critiquing people that he has never met and ideas that he really knows very little about, I realized that he's just kind of a pseudo intellectual bully. He gets progressively more smug and narrow minded as time goes on. He takes a slice of a person or situation and does no research. After a while I quit finding him entertaining. It's fine fir him to express his opinion and have the disclaimer that he's not diagnosing but that doesn't make him less unpleasant. He shuns anything spiritual, religious or that is outside of his personal belief system, which is extremely limited. For someone who is a trained psychologist, he takes delight in criticizing others harshly for the purpose of attention. That is somewhat disturbing and says quite a bit about his personal character.

I think your do for a little "shut the front door" your an ignorant critic, as the saying goes, "don't kill the messenger" but your request is nothing but a sad attempt.
I know he always makes sure to inform the audience that he isn't diagnosing anyone he does a video about. But regardless, that is a legal safeguard and he does offer very suggestive if not diagnosis remarks into a person's mental state. In his professional field the consensus among others who practice in the same field is something like this, "The first is that diagnosis can only be given by a qualified expert, meaning that self-diagnosis lacks credibility. The second is that self-diagnosis can turn serious psychiatric disorders into mere fashion labels, in such a way that trivialises them." If he were to make a video of himself he would make a mockery of his proffesion, and would ultimately lose all credibility to all the videos he has made this far, and have garnered so much popularity. He has become very popular by his neutral position towards those he speaks about. At times I see some signs he lets his personal feeling about someone come out but he does really well not to let those feelings overtake his professional nature and keeps himself very professional throughout. Doing a video on himself will NOT provide any benefit to the popularity and will only make the million plus subscribers he has gained, have to now decide if he is credible or not because he will have an self interest that may outweigh his professional nature we have all come to like. I don't think he would consider it for even a second as a possibility. The only alternative would be him asking a respectable colleague to watch his videos and make an informed scientific assessment based on those videos. That is the way the public had become aware of him, I haven't seen any other media outlet speak on him, but I'm sure some of the people he has spoken about have become unhappy with his assessment he provided and now have it out for him and will go to great lengths to sabatoge his popularity and find ways to destroy his reputation. They will find people to troll him and suggest things like " hey I want to see Dr . Grande do a video in Dr. Grande!" So thats why I think someone who is a fan of his and likes his work, wouldn't dare suggest such a Ludacrous thing for him to do. His work he does and the videos he makes are very informative and valued by many as an insightful path to gain a truthful opinion on the legitimacy of someones public reputation and if they are genuine or fraudulent. I believe Dr. grande is a genuine professional who has gained enough popularity that he will have those who will try turning him into the next Jerry Springer because of wide spectrum if people he has spoken about. Please don't make what he does a dog and pony show, and consider what your asking, before you just blurt it out. It's really not a video I want to see, because it lacks the credibility people have come to expect from him.
Jaggi’s approach to emphasizing individual responsibility of one’s mental health and approach to life has served me really well. His techniques are regurgitation of yoga techniques like pranayam or vipasana packaged in a more approachable way. I wonder have you actually tried to practice any meditative approaches or just intellectual assessment/ ofcourse disagreements and recommend therapy sessions and drugs?
You can learn approachable yoga techniques from thousands of gurus that provide it all for free. Todd is right about calling him a business man, he is using yoga and charisma, as well as a big marketing team to accumulate wealth. This selling and marketing of yoga is the biggest red flag you can have - these type of gurus will make you become infatuated with them and spend all your money to realize (hopefully) at some point that their practices lack the grace of an enlightened master and ends you spinning around in an ego trap just as his ego is still governing his being. Real enlightened masters or genuine gurus with their heart in the right place will never put a price tag or a marketing team behind their practices, they may accept donations at your discretion but that's it.

A man who is seeking the extravagance of yoga, who endangers yogis, who traps them in the same 3rd eye mysticism ego trap that he found himself in. Did you know Sadhguru's primary practice with his more advanced disciples is in 3rd eye dimension exploring and siddhi showcasing? Did you know that this is by far the most dangerous aspect of yoga that is normally only briefly explored, completely unadvertised but rather warned about, and in extremely controlled and brief time periods for each disciple? - Of course, this is what Sadhguru is all about, because he is an egoic thrill seeker and not an enlightened being. Do you know about the details of the controversy regarding his wife's so-called "Mahasamadhi?" he claims that she died of her own will by leaving her body during enlightenment, but throughout the ages in India people who died like this were NEVER cremated because they are considered the most sacred bodies, yet he cremated her instantly and against her father's will (who suspected Sadhguru did something to cause this). Do you know about the scandal regarding his illegal, environmentally damaging construction of his ashram in India? I could go on and on about the red flags that reveal what he truly is, but chances are, people like you, who are already primed and allured by his charm, are not going to be budged due to cognitive dissonance. It's the same as when you try to tell Osho fans that Osho was a dangerous cult leader who abused drugs and did orgies that involved kids, and they will just refuse to believe you or even fact check what you're saying (yes Osho was far more dangerous than Sadhguru, but nonetheless the same principle applied, a guru who achieved certain spiritual change within them, becomes obsessed by their ego from the power they find themselves in, and completely give up on seeking their enlightenment in exchange for enjoying their new powers).
It's unclear if he killed his wife and I want to deepen this point. (if you are not interested in details, stop reading here ;) To add something to your analysis, which I 100% share. His wife died and he claimed some Yogic enlightened state that she decided to leave her body.. It's called Mahasamadhi. We have Viji, Sadhgurus wife We have Jaggi, Sadhgurus real name before he becomes Sadhguru. We have their daughter, a very young child at that time. And a third woman involved in a triangle. But back to the yogic death, Mahasamadhi. Very important point: In the country of India, almost everyone gets cremated after 24 hours but nobody cremates someone who attains Mahasamadhi. It is a custom to bury people who attained Mahasamadhi. In western societies we don't have much knowledge about all of this, don't we? Or who knows about the complexity of death rituals in India, a huge subcontinent. Anthropologist do and it happened that I visited a seminar that was held by a Pakistani originated anthropologist researcher, Dr. Anjum Alvi and the whole seminar was about "the cultural importance of death". You can believe me or not, but you can do your own research if you want to learn more about Mahasamadhi. To complete the death rituals in India. There are some people who are left in the mountains and falks will eat the dead body, but that's a different religion within India. Sadhguru follows a yogic tradition. And within this tradition is the concept of Mahasamadhi. I am fine with this point. But why was in India itself confusion about his wife's achievement of "deciding to leave her body as an enlightened soul?" Now, consider the following points: Viji, Sadhguru’s wife, was cremated; not buried. Why? It's a custom to bury them. Don't get confused if you know that people in India gets cremated. Yes, they do. But and it's a huge but, you bury people who achieved Mahasamadhi. Hence the suspicion. She was cremated immediately after only 12 hours (!) and Jaggi Vasudev (Sadhgurus real name) didn’t wait for his father-in-law to reach there in spite of the requests. The request made by Viji’s in law, his wife's own father to wait was ignored. That's a biggie. Why? It's usual to cremate a body soon but don't even wait the the normal 24 hours? and it's also usual to respect the family and let them be part of the ceremony. Plus, the crematory act was out of line already. There are so many different things wrong here. His father in law made a police complaint later that he was suspicious about Viji’s death and that Viji might have been murdered. A father files a police report because he does not believe that his own daughter died a natural death but was murdered. It is true that anyone can make a police complaint and that doesn’t mean that the allegation is true. But the person who made the complaint was not just anyone, but Viji’s own father. Why would a father go through those troubles? Think about it… Viji was very young at her time of death and her daughter was very young to lose her mother. Jaggi said Viji had planned her mahasamadhi few months before her death. Why would a happy mother will do such a thing to her child and leave her child half - orphan? Why would anyone be in such a hurry to leave their body? According to Jaggi, Viji was not an accomplished yogi. That's an important point here as well. So it is a mystery how she learnt the art of leaving the body at will. Because, leaving the body at will is something that cannot be done so easily even by the advanced yogis. How did Viji, a normal householder and mother of a young child, who cleaned, cooked, taking care of the house and child and known to be not an accomplished yogi was able to leave her body at will? This a another thing that doesn't fit his own story. According to Jaggi, he has the power to peg people down if they are about to leave their bodies. He could not convince his own wife to stay alive? There was another woman who was part of the triangle and it's reported that Viji didn't liked her and was jealous of her. Sadhguru is a free horse kind of a man and traveling whole India on a motorcycle. Indian guys are allowed to do things within relationships with other woman that would be considered a red flag for western females. It's very likely that the other women was one of Sadhgurus other love interests. We would call it a love triangle. French movies are full of those marriages where three people are involved and one goes crazy about the betrayal. In India it's expected that the wife keeps her calm and tolerate everything. Because males are superior to any woman in the household. It's not a famous country for respectful treatment of woman. Though it has improved a little bit. Anyway, Sadhguru always repeats his side of the story and millions of people follow this version without even having in mind that the other side of the story is worth listening to. And not knowing about Mahasamadhi in detail. I like some of his insights but like Osho, he's a cult leader. Be aware that those people are capable of manipulating not one, not three but masses of people. And it is troubling to see, by reflex, millions of people are like noooo, that's not true, he never ever killed his wife. In my opinion those people already have lost their critical thinking. For critical thinking you need to be able to handle different versions of one story and let the other elements in that contradict your heart. I know many people claimed that Sadhguru helped them, which is absolutely possible. Like Osho, who helped millions of people in those old times, he was not enlightened but leading a cult, with all the consequence we know now. I am pretty sure, we will witness the falling down of this Guru in the future. Believe what you want. But don't lose your insight that humans are very complex beings. It is possible that Sadhguru was involved with the murder of his wife. Sorry in advance for disappointing any persons white washed picture of a cult leader. Whenever I see him, I am like "it's possible that this guy is a murderer".
gosh you are terribly long winded, i got your point after your first sentence everything beyond is just pointless. And stop using words like white washed ffs, most cult leaders are murderers and worse anyway
Wow and this is why it is so important to take culture, religion and spirituality, and the social environment into consideration. When people leave their bodies (astral projection) demonic entities can come in.. this is an occult practice. She might have been possessed and the evil spirit connected to mood rings, and once mood ring taken off, she passed as the evil spirit was the only thing keeping her body alive. Just a theory, never heard of anything like this before, but possible 🤷🏽♀️. And she had mood swings/aggressive he was saying .. very possible
Guess you haven't heard of Jiddhu Krishnamurthy. Even Indians find it hard to distinguish from real gurus and the ones who are in it for the money. In India, it's common to monetize hindu culture.
The second brain in the intestines is called microbiome. Gut bacteria influence our mental state (brain-gut axis). Sadhguru is in touch with current research, that is advancing in understanding links between nutrition and mental health. Such knowledge is relevant to any psychiatrist or psychologist.
And the old witch doctors who believed in farcical voodoo nonsense were actually able to treat mild conditions with medicinal herbs and were often one of the few people who could help carry out and relieve child birth in some tribal societies? Just because what they said about X is right, doesn't mean they're infallible about Y and Z.
I think he’s also referring to the vast neuronal distribution throughout the guy, which actually has as many neurons and connections as the brain. It is just distributed like a mycelium rather than localized.
The second brain in the guts is actually pretty well studied and documented (not an actual brain, mind you, just look it up), but great and fun analysis as always.
haha i think you don’t have any idea of metaphors i guess . educate yourself. By the way this dr. Fogg analysed bits and pieces of his statements and made up his own shit
Jaggi's wife was suicidal...I wonder how and why this could happen living with an 'enlightened guru'?? Marriage is the most sacred bond in Hinduism, wouldn't you do anything to save your beloved??? Not when you're Jaggi. Jaggi assisted his first wife to kill herself. It's true, look into it. They also had a 7 year old daughter at the time. Who would do this to their wife? The love of their life?? The mother of his child. If you're so enlightened you would do everything, including using your 'big mystical powers' to save her...especially for your daughter?! This brings into question his entire moral and ethic compass as a human. He wanted a new life. He wanted her out of the way. Its so sad. Any word he talks falls on deaf ears for me. He's not a mystic, Jaggi's a murderer.
She wasn't suicidal. You have got all wrong ideas about afterlife. In india, many saints have left their body willfully, it's some sort of tradition. And No, Hinduism doesn't see marriage as most sacred bond, infact, aac to Bhagavad Gita, a soul had billions of past life and consequently billions of relationships. So it doesn't matter much.
So according to your information who is his second or whatever wife or lover if he killed his FIRST wife. This is nonsense ,if you don't know him just keep quite.
@@MyAtabey the man clearly did not love his wife and found her to be a thorn. He describes her worldly existence as being tethered to the jewelry she wore. He clearly thought she was too materialistic and petty for his big, megalomaniacal ego.

What Dr. Todd Grande doesn't seem to understand is that he's speaking sāṃdhyābhāṣā (which means "twilight language"). It's a way of talking about things using metaphor, analogy, visual language, and cultural mythology. The reason you don't understand, and it seems like nonsensical garbage -- is because you don't understand the language in which someone is speaking. People speak in symbols when the subject in abstract and not quantifiable using literal language. (in academia we call it a polysemic communication system and language tradition.)
Exactly, which also explains the TV evangelists and their talking in tongues. You my friend are a genius. Balkañohipraju garetyvublechatu hyu ntrevace tpuztamq pç&$(ò Iam sure you understood my language, i was speaking in symballs, not symbols and the subject was abstract. Please please...no more academia for the Doc!!! LoL He's overdosing on academia. It's somewhat similar to the seekers yearning for the spiritual guidance of a "mystic". We're all just one step out of the jungle, apes still arguing and fighting over bananas.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it's kind of sad when we try so hard to discredit people who are simply spreading a positive empowering message, hence the responsibility Sadguru puts back on the individual. Even if he weren't everything he claims to be, his influence is still an inspirational one overall. And we need more of this mindset in the world. I'd suggest you spend more time finding fault with the real problems of the world rather than the people who are trying to solve them.
Out of curiosity, if you had to hazard a guess, what percentage of the Indian population would you suggest actually believes in this charlatan's absolute nonsense?
@@6eoscience So if I lie to you and tell you I agree with that, will it help you feel better? I suppose I can dabble in a bit of charlatanism if I know it'll put a smile on someone's face. I'm not taking any of your money, though. That's a line I refuse to cross.
I went to a Sikh school. I saw him speak when I was young. I heard many crazy things as an adult. Our Principal was a woman. She would not let any of her students have "private talks" with this man. I think she knew he was sketchy.
May be true, but I still gather many little wisdoms from the Sadguru. More than i get from "Doctor" Grande. I HAVE seem Sadguru's ego come out. Once he spoke about the importance to treat caffiene drinks coffee & tea as drugs and to not use them daily. Which is sound-enough advice. But then the Guru mocked people for thinking that they are getting any benefit from herbal teas (no caffine), calling ALL non-caffinated teas "placebos!" This is absoutley wrong. Take Chamomile tea. It was minerals and potent anti-oxidents that benefit one's immune system and keeps you looking young! // Yet, this doesn't stop me for relating to Sadguru. A smart person must simply take the Guru with a little grain of salt.

When i first saw Sadhguru, i don't look at his philosophies ,theories etc. I just looked at his way of being, the stability he has, how joyfull he seems, how he doesn't let anyone determine his inner state of peace . And that's what I wanted because during that time I was going through some internal struggle. So I went to attend his inner engineering course, and you won't believe that is the real thing. All the talks he does is just to get people to take charge of themselves , to question themselves for their own well being. And use his methods or 'tools' to manage ones thoughts, emotion and energies. His methods have worked for millions including me and that's why we support him in whatever endeavour he does. This analysis I feel is coming from an outsiders perspective who never attended any of his programms, never been to his aasharm in India, never was involved in any of his environmental projects. All I will say that this video is extremely misleading cause that guy Sadhguru can really be of use to many people who are in some state of suffering.
I have been to India many times and it is all a scam if you can see through it. All these joyous gurus are very similar to sociopaths and psychopaths. No true guru would want fame nor material attachments. Let alone a lifestyle of a celebrity.
Tbh most of the people here are just internet bullies thinking that they know more about a person by watching one or two of his videos or hearing one or two words about fake Gurus in India (most probably coming from motivated parts of media) than millions of people who are are actually benefited from these same Fake Gurus. I mean seriously if it was all a scam, are you saying that heads of several nations, the UN, Multiple celebrities across the world, reputed universities like Harvard ,MIT,IITs asking him to speak are just getting scammed. Moreover Millions of part time volunteers , many of them extremely successful and having buzy schedule, take out time to contribute to his projects without any charges are doing this because they are , i don't know, maybe hypnotised or something and not that they are getting something very valuable to their lives from this man? So many frauds have been to UN for talk. Any national leader would be truthful to you? Just look around. I don't even blame them that they are not transparent but most of them are not claiming to be enlightened. And if you follow celebrities, then I don't think any logic would go through you. Why not tell me which of my points are wrong and give me backing evidence for them, instead of your inappropriate personal attack? You can follow whoever you like, but it is extremely harmful to be decietful and downright selfish to defend a fraud, just because he has helped people in the short run. Many don't see past the damage it would do in the long run. I am normally quite skeptical about the marketing of eastern mysticism to the west, or as I call it: Karma Cola… BUT I found your brief analysis quite superficial. I have studied yoga for more than 25 yrs, from India, and I have to say that I find the specific teachings rather helpful! You said he offers no specific teaching, but he does in his courses. I paid quite a sum of money to learn Shambhavi Mahamudra, and was skeptical that it would be worth the money, and the very specific practice has benefitted me tremendously. I need half the amount of sleep, and am naturally drawn to healthier choices as a result of doing this very specific practice daily (takes about 25 mins to do). While I agree that his free videos are just Yoga 101, if you take the plunge and learn an initiated practice from him, you will open doors within yourself you never even realized existed. And I’m saying this as an experienced Yogini. You may not have tried the techniques, but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist! I’m a fan of your channel, and I don’t mean this in the spirit of criticism (this is my first comment), just found that you barely scratched the surface of his actual teachings.
Agreed . A CNN journalist refered to an AGHORi as a cannibalist . It’s just the lack of understanding a culture. How will you explain samadhi to him ever ? But they sit here giving their “informed” and “knowledgeable” perspectives ! The irony .
@SINGULARITY FOUND - INFINITE QUBIT DOMAIN 'Yoga is stretching whilst controlling your breath' yup that's where u lost me, if u r referring to the white washed version of yoga then yea sure but most yogas don't need stretching. Gurur essentially means teacher, not isn't the money used for getting teachers online for business or coding courses etc also waste coz u can learn urself too? In fact why spend money at school u can learn all that at home by urself? The reason we have seen all these stupid yoga versions is coz no one was taught the right way to do it, there is nothing wrong in having a guru if someone isn't sure of what practise to do because there r many types of yogas. U don't need to pay for it but for sadhguru for example runs many welfare organizations and an ashram in India where people live for free and thousands of visitors r fed everyday, now dont u think they need money to do all that?
just because something is popular in the west does not mean it's advertised to the west by the people it came from. Western people always think that other people are reaching out to them, lol. Also, you found his analysis to be superficial despite all the facts he shared!!? The fact that this said guru claimed something that was not included in the research paper, thinks that water has memory, and thinks humans have another brain in their intestines is enough for anyone to discredit him. Just because he's good at yoga does not legitimize his incorrect and insane beliefs.
I've watched thousands of videos from Sadhguru, Krishnamurti, Osho, Mooji, Eckhart Tolle etc. Sadhguru does have a more flamboyant and mystical style compared to the others. But I cannot deny he is extremely insightful and articulate, maybe the most eloquent among them all. You don't have to believe everything he says, just take whatever is useful to you. Same goes to other gurus. My favourite is Eckhart btw:)
I feel like Krishnamurti (and maybe Mooji) is considerably more reasonable than the other people - he doesn't really make any unusual metaphysical claims, he just describes mindfulness in a really apt way.
I learned that you have to be careful who you allow to influence you. God, pastors, a guru, a life coach, people in your life or what have you...You have to moderate it and be mindful of it. It's tempting and easy to follow them without question when you are in search of something. Welcoming their words with openness and obedience as they assume authoritative hierarchal position. You are the only one who have walked in your shoes. No one can understand wholeheartedly what your journey was like and will be like...not saying you are alone in the world. Just that take what works for you to better yourself and your situation. Make it your own...put your spin on it, customize it. Please be careful who you allow to influence you. Much Blessings~
Agreed - happiness is on the inside, not the outside. By putting someone like this on a pedestal, you are looking outside of yourself for the magical answer.
That is why he encourages you to be a seeker, not a follower. He Just give tools for it. He also says to not believe him, Just experiment and see for yourself. He always said, never look up nor down on anyone. Fake or not, does it make sense to you? 🙏
You are living in a world where you should address someone as plural based on their preference and in such a world if you feel to quote someone other than what they adress themselves as then it means you either way behind the society or straight up a r@cist. Majority of sadhguru hatred are coming from certain section of society under the control of certain religious organisation.
Any guru is essentially trying to describe using language, the indescribable. What I would ask everyone who holds negative opinions on Sadhguru or spiritual teachers in general, is what do you picture a 'legit' guru sounding like? What would he say how would he be? etc
Ramana Maha rishi is one of the real guru. Research on him you will know the truth. No need for 1000s of dollars workshop at ISHA foundation. He speaks the truth the way truth is, no playing with words and emotions.
@@soloforce6187 yeah Ramana maha shi is great but I'm not sure it's fair to judge Sadhuguru on the fact that he charges for retreats. Even if you don't like him as a guru he's obviously contributed a lot into helping the world with this savebthe soil campaign and countless others. He also puts a lot of free content put there and the basic program is reasonably priced. But what I was getting out with the comment was that most people commenting and probably Dr Grande would say all spiritual talk is nonsense, so I wanted to know if they had an idea of a guru that they would consider legitimate. If not then the video is redundant and you might as well just say there's no point in investigating anything past materialism.

I respect and enjoy your analysis on episodes i've seen, but think you went out on a limb on this one. I'm not sure why you chose to pick on Sadhguru. His is a man who is actually doing some good in this troubled world instead of just talking about it. Sadhguru has turned the mirror around for me to see myself and take responsibility for my thoughts, emotions and actions. I hope his continues to rise in fame and popularity.
“Pick on” just because you have a bias doesn’t mean that your bias is right. In this video, he did a proper analysis and overview. There are many motivational speakers out there that are con men that say, basic things that help people, but they are still con men.
Hi guys! It must be very aggregating to Dr. Grande who has studied and practiced for YEARS including doing literally hundreds of educational videos, to talk about this kind of charlatan! He can only partly keep his contempt in check! Yet he manages to fairly assess this "imposter". It must have taken restraint!😷😤🙄
Can you elaborate on what was so brilliant? This Grande video inspired me to watch the Joe Rogan interview with Sadhguru. There's a part where Joe presses for specifics for people who have depression or a serious bout of negative thoughts. I expected "vague and nonsensical language" but found none of that. It was quite clear. Grande pointed out that Sadhguru is basically Osho regurgitated. But isn't a lot of his content basically nothing new either? I can probably pull up a lot of overlap from RationalWiki. Does it matter if it's new? I don't really think so. The problem is this: Todd comes from an academic background. It matters to build upon the existing body of science. When you write papers you cite sources. Sadhguru, Osho and Tolle play a different game. Sometimes the repetition of ideas like to not take your thoughts that seriously, is what's necessary and that people benefit from the repetition. Who cares if they are not saying something new. In musical lyrics do you care if they expressed a new or novel idea? For the above reason I an starting a campaign to cancel Todd Grande...just kidding. But for the above reason, I'd knock off at least one ⭐for the above if I were you.

I personally learnt a lot from Sadhguru and from other Gurus like Osho, Echart Tolle. Imo, in society we need such people to teach us to go within instead of seeking things without. Sadhguru, Osho and Echart Tolle did a good impact in the population. People nowadays practice meditation, yoga and so on which clearly helps to our mental and physical health. However, we should keep in mind that there is a very thin veil between abuse and spiritual leaders as other leaders do since they have huge power over people. There were some crime cases before some "spiritual leaders" manipulate followers mentally, emotionally, physically abuse their followers, make them commit crimes in the name of serving them. I personally follow spirituality but Dr. Grande grounds me with face slapping reality and so i follow my spirituality without forgetting reality.
Indeed, we need to use caution before falling for or blindly following gurus. This is what leads to a cult. However, I do agree that we need more spiritual leaders more and more today where we are catapulted in the modern lifestyle without proper means of navigating it. So people like Sadhguru and others who show us the way on how to live better is only good. People just need to use caution on what to believe and what not to, like any guru who uses mystical concoctions and brainwashes people is not good.
I like his outlooks on some things in the world, and it's relaxing to listen. However it's irritating at times that he doesn't actually answer the question, he just brings up something partially related. His answer is typically 'we need to let go of trauma, and learn how to operate the chemicals in our body'. If a therapist said that to me, I'd want my time back..
Did you ever learn to manage those chemicals? He's not a therapist despite of what you may feel about him. He teaches yoga and different kriyas which help you bring about that magical "chemical" Balance you talk about. Words may give you temporary relief if you want to make it sustainable, you must bring your body and mind to harmony and for that you need to act my friend. People forget words but they hardly forget experiences. Go sign up for inner engineering.
I am not a follower of Sadhguru. I have only listened to a few of his talks. He is not my "cup of tea" but I respect what he does and I too am a great believer in the power of meditation as he is. Mediation raises one's vibration by calming the mind and body. The more you do it, the more grounded you will feel in life and the more abundance you will attract in all areas of life. Life is about resonance and the higher your resonance is, the happier you will be. The power of meditation is something I don't think Dr. Tod Grande understands. I would bet he doesn't meditate. Mocking that Sadhguru teaches silence but talks when he lectures or talks when he answers questions is a cheap shot. If he truly wants to understand what Sadhguru does, then I suggest he start meditating. I wonder how happy Dr. Grande is.
Everyone on the internet completely overlooks the mysterious circumstances of his wife’s death! He lives a very privileged life and travels everywhere and stays in high end accommodations. Beware of anyone claiming to be a guru, but especially anyone claiming to be a true guru.
There have been many instances when meditators have left their body when they wanted to. Many of my family members have experienced this phenomenon with their gurus. This must be new to the western mind but in the east its a common occurrence amongst enlightened beings. And there were dozens of people who were present when she left her body. And at least 2000 people when she was cremated. Just because you don't understand something doesnt mean you have to defame somebody. Try his free meditation practices. They are available online.
My impression of him is that he's kind of flippant about any kind of problem you might be having. He sees things in black or white. I felt he was also very subtly making fun of whoever came forward with a problem.
He is not flippant. He wishes for you to take responsibility for your life. For you to determine your experience of the situation. Maybe your ego got a bit bruised. He has said many times what he says is not important, it can be merely used as inspiration for wanting to know. You are supposed to do the yoga practices to experience what he is talking about. He is out talking now about the Save Soil Movement that is the agenda not for you to believe anything.

I am a psychotherapist that tries to bridge psychology and spirituality. Just like I don't agree 100% with Dr. Todd, I don't agree 100% with Sadhguru, neither I do with any Guru or Scientists. I take only what feels like truth to me, on basis of my own experiences & knowledge. I discard information that is not true for me. Both are human, trying to do their best to help or influence people, both are not Gods or perfect beings. I respect and appreciate both. Dr. Tod has experience of studying brain and mind as psychologist whereas Sadhguru has experience doing meditation and yoga. Dr. Tod deals with mind (personal) whereas Sadhguru deals with beyond mind (Transpersonal, Spirit). Dr Tod does what he does for different reasons and Sadhguru does what he does for different reasons. Just like any humans, they have their own biases, they have different cultural upbringings, different perspective towards life/death, different ways to talk and explain things. Some may find one way of talking more helpful. I think both can be beneficial and sometime they can be limiting. So Guys, so let us keep your mind open, keep listening to everyone, but just take what feels right to you; and let us remember we only know very less about our existences (around 6% of the physical universe), there is a lot to be discovered and experienced. And we could be the one to find out what else is there.
I can't help but thinking (magical jewellery aside 🙄) that frequently, after a wife dies in "mysterious circumstances", the first thing the partner says will be that they were "incredibly depressed" or "suffered mood swings". The very quick cremation just adds to suspicion...or maybe her lifeforce really *was* contained in a locket.
As much as I agree with you, quick cremations are usually pretty common in India from my understanding bc I recall one of my relatives who passed away was cremate within 1 or 2 days of her death
From what I understand, she openly spoke about wanting to transcend to the higher spiritual realm. Once that is complete, there is no more need for the human body or belongings.
It actually is savage; as in treating a man so many respect as a teacher in a nasty childish manner. It's as if someone said to Dr.G....you aint a REAL Doctor pal I'm just gonna call you whatever I want...not what you prefer because I don't respect your Culture. Americans can be so ignorant.

First of all Sadhguru's name is Jagadish Vasudev. 'Jaggi' is his pet name that only his closest family address him as. As an interviewer, who is a complete stranger, do you automatically jump to calling people by their pet name? He's not asking you to address him as his holiness or your highness, it's just the name everyone started calling him by, "Sadhguru". The interviewer could've at the very least addressed him respectfully, but clearly he was trying to instigate him.
my intestines hate me. I think he is right they must have a brain. Unfortunately no neurologist nor psychiatrist will deal with allowing my intestines to be part of our therapy.
No you’re not crazy. The brain and the gut are linked. They developed from the same part embryologically. This explains the “Gut Feeling” that kicks in to alert people BEFORE their conscious brain picks up something.
Would be great to watch a live debate between Dr Todd and Sadhguru. The thing thats stands out from this short analysis is how most humans are drawn to perceived negative attributes and overlook all the positives. I would say Dr Todd could benefit from some mind expanding activities himself.
Bullshit like Sadhguru spreads does not expand the mind, it restricts it to a world of lies and leaves you under the control of a brainwasher. Luckily, intelligent people can see through this as they use their minds to analyze things rather then their emotions.
This doesn’t appear to be an assessment made in good faith. For example, many people have discussed the “second brain” within the gut lining To include medical doctors.
I've listened 2 him, I like him overall. But telling someone who suffers with chronic depression that it's all based on their "own mood." Is like telling them 2 just "pick themselves up by their bootstraps." Medication saved my life. He has NO background in mood disorders & pharmacology. That is dangerous (to say the least.) Overall, I like his philosophies & I will continue 2 watch him, because my MEDICATION allows me the ability 2 do that. Otherwise, I'd be dead.
@@mojojojo1211 yes that is true but sadguru did not brake it down so someone of her consciousness level could understand. what he saying is that chronic depression is like you laying face down in inch deep water feeling like you are drowning when all you have to do is realize it is only inch deep water and stand up this is not wrong but he is not taking note of the humans that are weak and have limit will power. all is not lost for these people because there are things they can do to get stronger but they have no way of finding howto from what he said
I hope very much that I am to 'blame' for all my problems - every single one of them. It's the only hope I have of ever solving any of them. If they aren't being caused by me, then they are out of my control forever, and the best I can do is hope that someone else can solve them for me, which is far more unlikely to happen. When you "blame" someone for their own problems, you're saying they have the potential to solve them, which is the best news you could give them, ever - even if they don't know how yet. That means it will be possible to learn at some point, even if not at this time. But people take it the wrong way, assuming they're being told that they are creating the problem deliberately and knowingly, and could easily solve it right now if they only wanted to. This is not what guru's mean when they say you are the cause of all your own suffering. They mean that the problem had roots that you are unaware of at this moment, but that you may solve it one day if you persist in searching your own life, your own heart, your habits, diet, or other activities or environment which is contributing in ways you have not known in the past, but that you may learn in the future with some effort or study.

I once stumbled upon a couple of his videos here on YT. I was astonished by seeing how many people appreciate and admire him. None of his words made sense to me. Thanks a lot, Dr Grande, for another brilliant analysis💎
He goes around the world bashing the concept of heaven. Then he consecrated a goddess. Telling people that enlightenment free souls. Bloody enlightenment is just rebranded “heaven”
That is one aspect, but there is a more recent discovery that is quite literal and that is the microbiome, basically the gut bacteria. This is proven science now and is most likely what Sadguru is referring to since he seems to stay well versed in current studies.
I love how he mentions people like him and people don't. Then proceeds to only say the bad. Not that it's wrong but if this is truly a case analysis then everything should be brought into perspective. Interesting analysis but not something I'd consider a true case analysis. Was looking for something with more substance
People don’t come here for a thorough analysis/ just his opinions, wit (some would argue) and his roasting abilities. He is more of a entertainment broker. He used to do thorough analyses - psychologically speaking - but then when he realized he could become more popular roasting people his content changed dramatically. Some people love it, others have unsubscribed. Most who decide to stay know they aren’t getting a thorough or unbiased review - they are here for the snark
@@wordsleuth992 All true, however I still find this the best channel to go to for an overview of the facts of the case, especially criminal cases. While I often disagree with parts of the analysis, I get more of the pertinent facts by coming here than by going to news reports, for example.
Enlightenment is an act of lessoning oneself to 0. The fact that Sadhguru has done the opposite is enough of a red flag. He has amassed incredible wealth, wears high end clothing, rides top of the line vehicles & has temples built in his honour.
One more thing, the biggest contribution of Sadhguru is the explanation and exposition of Indian culture in particular Shivaism. You may be interested or not about this tradition but if somebody is interested and wants to understand this worldview, Sadhguru's powerful insights about the significance of Shiva representing the deepest human consciousness and potential are immense. He has a direct connection with this tradition and it is obvious from the storytelling, the deeper explanations of symbols and mythology, that are based on tradition but also personal understanding and experience. If you are not interested in this topic this would be useless to you but given it is a tradition that millions of people followed for thousands of years that produce art, philosophy, guided human interactions, and gave meaning to common people but also individuals that dedicated sincerely their entire life to searching for truth maybe you should be more respectful and less dismissive.
To be honest, I think Dr. Grande simply hates, even LOATHES any sense of Spirituality at all. Grande was trying to extinguish that spark. Grande is the Western World that HATES the East and what us to join in on his contempt! Dr. Grande's entire talk was bitchy and attacking from beginning to end. Sadguru is not perfect and sometimes makes ego mistakes (I follow his talks). But who IS perfect. I think Sadguru is humble ENOUGH. Abouve all, Sadguru teaches one thing that Grande hates the most: Insight.
Whatever he said in this video wasn’t false either. Dr Todd did his homework so well And What is so humorous about it ?. Anyway if you are sadhguru follower or believer I wish you good luck 🍀 He escaped so wonderfully from that case that only god can help it now. Kudos to Dr Todd.
@@The_Moving_finger_writes I was referring to jokes Dr.Grande always makes that I love in his videos. Not saying its humorous he is doing a video on Sadghuru.
Good one. I've been listening to the guru for about a year and he has some good points. However, when I saw Sandguru on a panel with different scientists, I realized that the guru looked like a elementary student talking with college professors. I actually concluded what Dr. Grande did.
Namasthê. I hope there are millions of people like you (Mario Casarez) who trust scientists. Leave the likes of Sathguru to elementary students like me/us. Sciences is gathering data until the point the mind is active. When mind is absent, then science can do noting. Spirituality, Yôga, Dyâna cannot be explained by science. I wish you well. Pranâms.
I've noticed when listening to or watching some of these "profound thought" gurus, they seems much more profound than if you just read what they're saying. I think reading gives us the opportunity to reread, analyze and think critically about what's being said. As a result we come away with a clearer understanding and are more likely to see the weakness and sometimes the foolishness of what's being presented.
Interesting. This might be true for Sadguru, but I felt the opposite about Osho Rajneesh. Spoken, he seemed slow, dull, even intoxicated, but on paper his thoughts seemed to have more clarity and even depth (at times)…
What is being presented isn't foolish. Foolish is what the people who consider these people enlightened are. What is being presented is a big fat bunch of lies.
I think they have studied in political debates, when people are spoken to they are more easily influenced. When they read, the visual cortex fires up and that automatically brings a lot more brain mass into the picture then sitting and listening.
Chris, if you are dealing with his ‘believers’ then you are most certainly not dealing with his disciples or devotees, as Sadhguru refrains people from believing him or believing in him, but rather to use the methods that he teaches. If it works you keep it, if it doesn’t to leave it and go.
Yoga teacher here too @Chris The yoga they do at his foundation appears hybrid like in many ways Did you know the certification there is 21weeks not days
@paradoxlove1 I don't know how this makes it any better? The key point here is: too many people in this community are extremely susceptible to Gurus and all the nonsense and abuse surrounding it. Sadhguru reinforces this with his half baked blabbering and is a huge part of the problem. Keep supporting Gurus if you want more systematic violence in this space...
@@shift-happens how can you back up this claim of increased systematic violence? Only when an authority that asks you to be a believer, one becomes susceptible to doing things blindly and is prone to cause damage to others out of confidence. A guru like Jesus, Buddha or Sadhguru have been there to raise human consciousness by bringing clarity to the individual, not a belief system to the masses. The church may have asked you to believe, but a guru will not do such a thing. When one has clarity, where is the room to be mislead? Only if one is clouded by a belief system or distorted knowledge can one cause harm to themselves or others through false pride and confidence. If you cannot comprehend what Sadhguru says, you should not listen, but you should not mistake what he says as half baked or blabbering. His goal is not to teach you text book knowledge as our Dr. here is attempting to do, his goal is to disturb you enough to wake you up from illusions that you are living under. The goal is not to force the water down your throat if you are thirsty, but to point you in the direction so that you could drink and experience for yourself. I like something Sadhguru said. Just because a person can recite information doesn't mean he's intelligent. A tape recorder can do that.

I don’t know about all his spiritual products; just listen to some of his RUclips videos. I find his teachings profoundly enlightening. He seems to teach like a Zen master in that his teachings compel one to self reflect. That’s an amazing gift all by itself. Too many of us focus our attention on what others are doing wrong instead of going inside and questioning our own motives and behaviors.
He killed his wife back in 1997. He’s your standard narcissist cult leader. Listen to a real zen master, this guy is selling ideas that feel enlightening, like all cult leaders have always done. You’ll find some cool ideas with all of them, that’s how they get to their position at the top of the pyramid.
And that’s why he’s successful… He knows how to tell people what they want to hear, and be manipulated you by feeding your needs/wants. Do what you like, just be aware of what’s really happening.

Self reflection isn't led by someone else.
@@cosmosadorabilis7677 I do care about what others think. Self reflection is almost always facilitated by being in relationships with others or by what other people say and do in relationship to you. If you were not a social being who cannot live without being in some kind of relationship to others there would be no need for self reflection. What would be the point? If you don’t care what others think you don’t need to change anything about yourself. The only purpose of self reflection is to grow and change in the context of others and society!

That's the kind of contradictions you find with the teachings of people like jaggi .
You obviously can get to self reflect on your own. Many mystics, philosophers, hermits, and monks would attest of that.

You do not only exist in relation to others, and you might discover more about you on your own, and by observing yourself and the reaction to things.

Dear Dr. Grande,
This is the first time; I disagree with your analyses. I have taken some of his yoga programs.
I am a certified yoga teacher and I would know how fraud is rampant in the wellness industry. And I don't have a RUclips channel, btw, so not trying to get subscriptions.

I asked Dr. Todd to get Sadhguru for an interview. He won't do it, I'm guessing because he lacks the courage of his conviction.

It would be sure to generate an interesting dialogue (or monologue, as the case would be)
I know he always makes sure to inform the audience that he isn't diagnosing anyone he does a video about. The second is that self-diagnosis can turn serious psychiatric disorders into mere fashion labels, in such a way that trivialises them."
If he were to make a video of himself he would make a mockery of his proffesion, and would ultimately lose all credibility to all the videos he has made this far, and have garnered so much popularity.

Right, that is Toddy's problem, always using psychology to understand everything like a hammer to nail every problem.

@@liamnewsom8583 If you are only seeking a bit of youtube guidance here and there you can surely get it safely from Sadhguru. But if you are a real devotee/ sadhaka, or god forbid, sannyas (monk with 100% life commitment to him) you are being trapped by a man who promises enlightenment and is not enlightened himself.
He exploits something called "confirmation bias." But he is not alone. Many Christian preachers also do the same.
It's unclear if he killed his wife and I want to deepen this point.
(if you are not interested in details, stop reading here ;)
To add something to your analysis, which I 100% share.
His wife died and he claimed some Yogic enlightened state that she decided to leave her body.. It's called Mahasamadhi.
We have Viji, Sadhgurus wife
We have Jaggi, Sadhgurus real name before he becomes Sadhguru.
But why was in India itself confusion about his wife's achievement of "deciding to leave her body as an enlightened soul?"
Now, consider the following points:
Viji, Sadhguru’s wife, was cremated; not buried.
Think about it…
Viji was very young at her time of death and her daughter was very young to lose her mother.
Wow thanks for taking the time to explain this!

To this day, I, myself, proudly remain un-vaxxinated! Ha.
Most people only see him online, like his youtube channel. Not everyone can or even wants to go to India. Research is all we have to go on.

Eckhart Tolle is genuine...he's only promoting Mindfulness - These others are just making money off of the public and repeat nonsense.

I feel like Krishnamurti (and maybe Mooji) is considerably more reasonable than the other people - he doesn't really make any unusual metaphysical claims, he just describes mindfulness in a really apt way.

Your gut might affect your mood but it's not another brain
BS.

I once stumbled upon a couple of his videos here on YT. I was astonished by seeing how many people appreciate and admire him. None of his words made sense to me.
Thanks a lot, Dr Grande, for another brilliant analysis💎
I thought because I didn’t get him, like his non-sense was something I was missing?
A lot of people are dumb.

He goes around the world bashing the concept of heaven. Then he consecrated a goddess. Telling people that enlightenment free souls. Bloody enlightenment is just rebranded “heaven”
The second brain that he talks about is your gut, your gut feeling.
yup... and this guy makes "gut Feeling " Inters tines" ...
Gut feeling is intuition, still very much in your biological brain
That is one aspect, but there is a more recent discovery that is quite literal and that is the microbiome, basically the gut bacteria. This is proven science now and is most likely what Sadguru is referring to since he seems to stay well versed in current studies.

Do you have proof that he’s done this?
I love how he mentions people like him and people don't. Then proceeds to only say the bad. Not that it's wrong but if this is truly a case analysis then everything should be brought into perspective. Interesting analysis but not something I'd consider a true case analysis. Was looking for something with more substance
Agreed…. Lovely “shade” of snark indeed.
I totally agree.
I believe you are dismissing him, in saying he is less dismissive.
I don't believe sad guru is authentic. He's a greedy pop culture guru.
I didn’t know the Mafia gave heed to Indian BS??!!!!

If a person insisted that he is called real guru, then he ain't much of a guru. A true Guru has left the ego behind.
Good one. I've been listening to the guru for about a year and he has some good points. However, when I saw Sandguru on a panel with different scientists, I realized that the guru looked like a elementary student talking with college professors. I actually concluded what Dr. Grande did.
Do some more study and search. Sadhguru is a profound genius. Someone just needs eyes to see it,
mario do you have the link that video?
@@Learner5555 it's a RUclips video, I'll try to find the link or maybe you can find it.
Pranâms.
@@ajayreddy8732 Yes, he is definitely a genius. Just watch his ''explanation'' of what he claims happened to his wife.
I noticed that also.
Can you give an example, where it happened to you??
Yoga teacher here. I have to deal with 'believers' of this fraud on a daily basis... Thanks for this video.
Under these conditions of clarity where is there room for causing systematic violence?
@@shift-happens was not supporting it was only commenting Hyper Vigilance from a yoga teacher even if disapproving of something is a questionable commodity in itself a mirror image of its own critique
