Agreed . I train both ways it’s a little different moving around in full kit compared to edc clothing and if your not use to carrying that extra weight and bulk it gets tiring real quick

Actually in the process of building my GPR now. 3 years of trying different stuff, preferences and learning new things every day have shaped my GPR into what it’s gonna be. Ultimately ended up going with a red dot and magnifier just because chances of me shooting past 300 are very slim in my environment, mostly up close to 200.

same here, but for me its hard to argue against a 1-6 or 1-8 lpvo. the major drawback is weight
I have many thoughts about how excellent this video is, but this particular section stuck out at me: Fitness. Thank you for coming out and saying essentially - if you can't carry your rifle, there is a problem. I elk hunt with a group of guys at 7-10K feet in 10-70 degree weather (fluctuates insanely during the days) with a day pack of around 25 pounds, and a load out of 80+ when we are successful and packing out meat. We hike on average 10-12 miles a day on rough terrain carrying rifle, spotting scopes, tripods, range finder and binoculars, food, water, etc. and our last pack out is everything I listed earlier plus meat & camp (shelter). I'm 5'8" and I'm 42 years old. If I can do that, no one needs to be moaning about GPR weight. Time to hit the gym guys. You don't want to be the fat guy getting clapped cause you're winded and couldn't move to cover in time, or worse, put your entire squad in jeopardy because of your lack of mobility. You guys put it much more delicately than I did, but the fact remains - if you're not in shape you are a liability to yourself and those around you.
And for those of you reading this, if you don't hunt big game out west, start your preparation for that now and make it happen. You will learn an immense amount about navigation, field survival in harsh conditions and long range shooting that is practical and transferrable to scenarios such as these with modifications for your state of residence.
Final note, I hope you guys are aware how luck you are to have the firearms culture specific to this video available to you. I have many firearms enthusiasts in my area, but they don't think like you do, and it's insanely difficult here to find anyone who is in shape and wants to train with kit. I'm flying solo for now and just hoping to be a community asset if things get sour. Outstanding video guys. Thanks for your time.

Mid range scopes with a top mounted red dot or canted dot really check a lot of boxes. I run 4-16x on my 16" .308, keeping it at 4x unless more magnification is needed. Though when I build my AR15 I like the idea of a 2-10x, though a 4x or 6x ACOG is tempting.
I think the primary Arms ACSS is perfect , designed for 55 gr. Range finder reticle is awesome (out to 6 max ) and a dot on the side is perfect for closer . You guys are AWESOME !!! Get some floppy hats w/ a band so you can plant stuff on it, brake up profile , silk never wilts, gilly cover in those woods... never be seen. No one trains like this where it's one hundred an fifteen. Get water on your back.
My plain old carry handle 14.5 with CCO is what I came back to for a GPR.
I can maintain proficiency much more simply with it with the limited training time I have
Trends in the industry are dictated by the current conflict. With the Russian conflict it's really solidified the idea of CQB is a COD pipedream. It's a comically limited circumstance within any of our recent conflicts. As tech progresses as does engagement distance. I recently read an article how the average engagement distance in Ukraine is 450'ish. I really believe the GPR/SPR is going to be the trend for the foreseeable future, and shortly we'll view manufacturers cater products towards it. We'll start seeing some of our Gucci 18' barrels being popularized again, and hopefully we'll get some decent options in a 2-10x optic range. The Credo is about it ATM, and the optical clarity is pretty mediocre, though it is a decent optic. I'm purchasing one for my MK14 EBR (guranteed to trigger someone) and I would be lying if I didn't acknowledge that I feel as if I'm settling. There's really nothing if high quality in the mag range, and unfortunately I'm not brave enough to purchase a $3k+ MARCH from Europe before looking through it. So, Credo it is.
CQB shall and is still happening, you can't neglect it. Just look at Marawi, Syria/Iraq etc. Where they were literally breaking walls inside building to switch positions or continue clearing
So 14.5s ain't gonna disappear anytime soon. However shorter than 12.5, I can see these starting to become less on the forefront of manufacturers.

@@sebleonard8273 we were clearing buildings in Fallujah with M16A2’s, there’s always work arounds for those types of engagements. Obviously we’re talking about optimization, though, and the real reason for those 10.3”s is the utility of adding a suppressor with the same OAL as a birdcaged M4.
Right tool for the job. You still see utility in short rifles for vehicular use, specifically. The inside of an Abrams or 113 has practically all of us running handguns. You’re both right, it’s just a matter of whether you’re willing to sacrifice terminal performance or maneuverability.

KP15 lower, and a skinny Hanson 16" tube. 1-4 triji. For my area, my terrain, (and us also having a farm for immediate needs) it's perfection. I reload so I have 62gr gold dots loaded aplenty. Very accurate rifle and very light to have an LPVO.

My go-to rifle is is a del-ton lower and aero precision upper 16" 1-7 twist with a atibal 1-8 optic and CZ P10C as a secondary

Absolutely love the content and setups. Put together a budget optic stack that is working out beautifully. Vector continental 1-6 lpvo (German glass ~$300) in a Burris pepr mount (has picatinny on top $80) Vortex crossfire 2 red dot $100 on top. Entire stack is about $500 out the door. Took it out to 500 with ease. Shout out thunder valley
My dilemma right now is choosing between a 16 inch AR15 with an LPVO and a 18 inch AR10 with a compact 2-10. I live in Western Montana. This is Big Sky Country. So once I get outside, on the move, there is the potential for sightlines to get long. And I am not looking to lose the initiative getting decisively engaged. I picture my tactics being that of a light Scout or Recon unit; stay quiet, stay moving, see them before they see you. When you are with your friends and family, the only gunfights you win are the ones you avoid. So right now I am debating whether the close in firepower of the AR15 is more important than the standoff distance and raw power of the AR10. The AR10 has a Proof Research barrel in it, so it isn't that much heavier than my AR15, but I still can't carry as much ammo. I see the utility of the AR15 and 5.56 is everywhere. But I always have this voice in my head telling me volume is fine but accuracy is final, so I can never drop the idea of having a relatively light weight AR10 in .308 that can reach and touch, but still put down some hate and discontent if I need it to up close.
the ar10 sounds like a winner for me in your area. can also drop some big animals with it when you need too
@@lambchop6210 To be fair, it is legal to hunt with .22 cal centerfires in this state, and I have a pretty good string of one shot kills on deer with my 16 inch Colt 6960 just using mostly 62 gr Barnes or 62 gr Federal Fusion MSR bonded JSP. But yes, esp with an 18 to 20 in barrel, the .308 Win is a big step up from the .223/5.56, and allows one to comfortably hunt about anything in the state, including elk and moose. I prefer bullets in the 168 gr weight range. My dad has had good success in his 20 in AR10 with the 168 gr Berger hybrid, and I usually roll with the 168 gr ELDM. If I was looking for strictly hunting, especially bigger game like elk, I would probably go with a 165 gr Partition or 150 gr Barnes, but for all around use, the match bullets offer a good compromise of exterior and terminal ballistics that is hard to beat.
Good budget mount that offers same capability as the ADM is the Burris PEPR. A bit heavy but pretty solid and comes with a picatinny top mount for a dot. Can be had for $60-$70.

I ran across the Trijicon Credo 2-10 looking for an optic for a SPR build I was putting together. On paper it looked phenomenal but the reviews were mixed then I ran across yalls so I went ahead and picked it up... Now I have a 2nd one on the way it's freakin awesome. Really loving the videos guys keepem coming!!!

Cool video. My GPR is a 14.5” BCM ELW with a EXPS3 and Vortex micro 3x magnifier. I have a 1-6x LPVO on a ADM qd mount that I can slap on, if needed, and it does maintain acceptable zero. My wife is tiny and doesn’t train as much as we’d like so she needs something super simple and lightweight. For her, we went with a 11.5” BCM with a T2 micro. We live in metro Phoenix so I’m trading a bit of magnification for speed as I’m betting likely engagement distances to be within 100 yards. Not saying my setup is perfect, it’s just what we have currently. I have a decent stockpile of IMI 77gr match but I save that for my SPR. Both of our rifles are zeroed for 55gr XM193 as that is what I have the most of and is very common.
This is exactly what I’ve been preaching to my friends. You need to run a milspec trigger, 55 to 62 grain loving barrel. Train with what you will be picking up. I have a few different setups, but I can pick the majority of any AR and operate it as if it was my own.

2x10 is great for florida. I know many think of florida as everglade swamps, beaches, jungle, and palm trees. There's a lot of wide open land down here where I live in sw florida. I'm sure central fla. is the same prob with some rolling hills. I live around as much open flat land as I do forrest land. Anyway, good content and nice setups.
Been waiting a while for this one! Been putting in work with my SOLGW 13.7 with a PA 1-8x and 407c rds piggyback on top. Also really digging the sniper veil. Thinking about cutting part of it to wear as a hood/face concealment like you did but shock cord a long strip over muzzle, rail, and scope like in Act of Valor. 🤙
They work great and have so many uses, filtration, get it wet and it can cool you off, wear for camouflage, cover your gear, etc etc
What is the sniper veil you are referring to? Is that a product they sell? I’m new here
@@Charles-tj8ol It’s a common lightweight cotton netting (scarf) that can be worn over your face or rifle to break up your silhouette. Also it’s nice it hot weather bc you can get it wet and wear it around your neck or head as a “swamp cooler”.

Great episode again gents. Enter the mv into your program for an 18" SPR and then do a 14.5", shooting the same load. There really isn't a practical ballistic advantage. It's slightly in favor of 18", but nowhere near what you might think.
But you do have a weight and length penalty 100% of the time with an 18" SPR.
however there is also increased points for cool factor with SPR as well lol, thanks for the support!!!
@@barrelandhatchet SPR is much easier to shoot from bipod/prone and have high hit probability, just sucks to carry and try to shoot alternate positions with, other than tripod supported. They are great to train with for new shooters who are learning, that will benefit from a stable, heavy platform.
Where could one go to find the data tables if going down the “rabbit hole” is something a nerd wants to do? I’ve been going back and forth between barrel length for an actual GPR build as opposed to just a rifle with irons
@@christopherpena921 Pull up any free online ballistics calculator. Hornady has theoretical drag model and Radar drag model real world available on their site.
You can even select from a laundry list of bullets they have Radar track data on and put them through.
For 18", enter 2750fps with a 77gr SMK.
For 14.5", enter 2580fps.
The real differences are in rifle weight, configured. A heavy AR of any barrel length is a lot easier to shoot from bipod prone-supported or bench supported.
A lightweight AR is easier to carry and shoot from other positions.
I'd grab my 16' super duty and it has an acog, back up irons, sling and surefire scout. Really simple setup and can get everything I need done.

Good stuff, my GPR is a suppressed SOLGW 13.7, runnin a dot and magnifier on unity mounts, with a dual laser and surefire scout vampire. My area doesn't have crazy open long distance spots, most are 300 and in so it works out pretty good for me. I've tested all kinds of ammo from steel case 55 grain all the way to 77 grain BTHP. Havent had a chance to take it past 200 where I am but I know it can all make consecutive hits on an 8 inch plate, without changing my POA. Keep up the good work fellas. God bless from ole Carolina.

As a Midwesterner, I'm surprised there isn't a higher preference for AR10s over here given the likely increased engagement ranges and to compete with the likes of hunting rifles and also the abundance of ammo for .308, speaking from a shtf perspective of course

Agree with you. That's why I bought a sig tread 716i a few years ago just for the reasons you mentioned amongst others.
the big reason is AR10 are very harsh on parts and unless you build its hard to find a reliable and accurate system without breaking the bank, we are actually talking about doing a AR10 DMR build video

I just did one with a slr ar-10 lower upper and hanguard combo, Noveske 16" barrel and I had them headspace match 1 bolt and carrier and a back up bolt (a must with any ar-10). Loved the fact the bolt had dual ejectors. Did a a5 tube with a Tubbs ar-10 flat wire and h3 buffer. 1000 hard rounds later and 1 class(half surpressed)still running strong.
One reason is ammo, actually huge, you can carry way more 5.56 ammo at a lighter payload then 308, that is something to think about, weight matters, not to mention how heavy that AR 10 is going to get lugging around.
All of my sons have built their own shtf rifle. It’s been fun working through the different equipment over these years and I’m sure we e got them all figured out.

I have a 16" midlength PSA carbine with a front sight block, upgraded to an Aero free-floating quad rail, it has a Troy rear sight and PA micro red dot on a co-witness riser, and a CAR15 stock because esthetics, so far been working pretty well, granted I can't exactly financially afford, nor do I have the time most of the year, to go out and train like I should, but still

So, I personally went with a 18inch barrel. I life where there are towns, forests, farms, and wide open areas. The 18 inch didn't add too much going from a 16. And the slight extra muzzle velocity especially in the more open areas does help. Right now I'm trying to figure out what optics I want. I have a LPVO but I haven't been really enjoying it. Not much a fan. I can generally do better with irons and holographics better than a LPVO. What do you guys think about running a Eotech with a magnifier?

Couldn’t have said it better myself
My go to is quickly becoming my 20" HBAR with KP-15 lower and Magpul MOE handguard. Running a PA 4-14X44 with DMR HUD reticle, and a tube mounted SeeAll Open Sight.
I did everything humanly possible to offset the weight of the long HBAR barrel, and I'm glad I went that direction.
It's a little cumbersome in close quarters, but it makes up for that and then some at 25 yds snd out, which is the vast majority of my foreseeable use case
My next upgrade is gonna be an ultralight MLOK handguard and adjustable gas block. Debating on throwing my PEQ-15 on it too.
Going to drop the buffer weight just a little, and hopefully tune the vast majority of what little recoil it has out.
Going to shoot for the Smith Vortex FH, too.. though I'm honestly considering an A1 to save on length.
Running the two mags of Mock 262s I've hand loaded with BLC-2 and AlcoBullets 77 gr rebated boat tails, it's absolutely capable of touching 850+ yards (2750 fps average muzzle velocity, 0.510 G1 BC) though the energy is pretty abysmal (400 ft lbs at 800 according to my calculator)

Glad you guys hit on the quality control issue as of late.. I had a premium rifle completely crap out on the first magazine. I also had some issues with reputable ammunition that could’ve been catastrophic. The Q/C is worse IMO then we saw around 2012/2013.

Having carried the M-14 the majority of my time and qualifying primarily on M-16 A1-A4 rifles in the interim. The weight isn't horrid, at this point I have a plethora of AR-15 uppers the last three devised primarily to shave weight which haven't been shaken oit for zero at the range yet. However, stating that fact, shortly after my Dad passed Mom gave me an M&P15 Sport II rifle which was "on special" at Cabela's right then and it's a heavy barrel model not the M4 profile and it's beyond stupidly precise straight out of the box. It has consistently given 1/4 MOA 3 shot groups dead on the bullseye at 100 yards. It's a 1:9 twist barrel so I don't expect it to stabilize heavier bullet weights but for a semi automatic coyote control rifle it's absolutely worth it. I've had clowns talk all sorts of smack about my "cheap AR-15" from lil shits who have pink Hi-Point 9mm pistols as "high speed"😂 I've acquired a Centurion MKXII SPR and havr built a longer range capable MKXII SPR clone with many of the same components and a plethora of other longer range capable rounds; mostly the 6.5 Grendel. I'm just not bothered with the weight all that much on any rifle(except the 36lb .50 BMG I have zero intentions of running and gunning with😂.) At this point, for lightweight and close in go to war work I'm seriously leaning towards the Mean Arms ball bearing delayed 9mm upper on a standard AR-15 lower and I fully expect with a Fultin Armory binary trigger it will be a serious contender for 1-300yards and suppressor capable with even better capabilities for noise mitigation.

I’m down town St. Petersburg. I’ve been running a 12.5 with a 1-6. But Im planning on building out a centurion lw 14.5, 1-10 razor, and a surefire mini. Like yeah im in a city. But when you start thinking about how quick you can got from 5 yards to 600, 700, 800. It’s really making me debate my go to gun. I plan on running a 1-10 and centurion lw barrel to try to keep weight down.

I absolutely love your point about not only involving spouses, even kids, and for me, grandkids, with shooting but as finances allow, perhaps purpose-building an AR platform to fit THEM! I'm in the process of doing exactly that right now. I've found that what I would pick for them isn't necessarily what THEY would pick after being exposed to several different barrel lengths and even PCC's. So now I'm in the process of spec'ing out and building a few variants of the AR platform. All will be in 556 or 9mm (Glock mags). As you might of guessed, they don't have to twist my arm that hard!!! For those that are interested in ballistics and don't have a chrono, i chrono'd 3 barrel lengths yesterday. 14.5 mid hanson w/pinned block=2854fps, 12.5 carbine bcm gov w/pinned block=2748fps, 11.3 hanson w/pinned block=2634fps. Using xm193 fmj. Plenty of variables to talk about as far as ballistics but this was my data based on the conditions at the time of testing, where i am.

I have a16 inch m&p 15 sport 2 with a 1-6x lpvo with a streamlight. Can't have short barrels here.
Type A Rifle 11.5 SBR with Shadow Systems XR920 as secondary.
My GPR is a 12.5” in 6.8SPC. Part of my personal thought on it is, I can basically carry the same amount of ammo but with more performance. Either I’m a good enough shot to eliminate the threat and I have their stuff at my disposal… or I’m not, and it’s a moot point.

I haven’t found a LPVO that I like 100%. I feel a mid range scope (2-10 or 3-15) with a red dot is the way to go.
Primary arms 1-8 ACSS is the way to go for me, just got a laser for close range indoors stuff.

@@barrelandhatchet unfortunately not, this gear is quite expensive in my country so I had to save up a for a while before buying the scope and mount but I've been able to easily make shots on 8" square steel plate at 500 yards with 55gr fmj using the acss reticle so I don't personally feel the need to look at other scopes

If you like the vudu 1-8, but want a mil grid reticle, you have GOT to try the new vudu 1-10. Its incredible
The reason mpvos (while having a red dot on the rifle) are so much better than lpvos is because due to them using less jumps in magnification, they have a larger exit pupil. Which leads to a larger eye box. A 2-10 only has five magnification steps. A 1-10 has ten. Even a 1-6 has six. This alone makes mpvos easier to get behind than lpvos in almost all cases. The faster you can get in the eye box, the faster you can get positive ID, the faster you can shoot. Use a dot out to fifty yards and start at two power beyond that. It's the ideal setup.

My GPR is a Smith & Wesson MP-15 with an AAC M4-2000 & Primary Arms SLx? 3x prism. Now I am fighting the urge to build more rifles and instead saving for NVG’s

I agree with your optics choices. Small eyebox with max mag kinda caps the lvpo principle when most companies are running 24mm objectives. Trijicon was smart when they went to 28mm on Credo 1-8x and Vcog 1-8x, but still lands in meh. I'm saving for a NF NXS 2.5-12x42mm. Almost same eyebox as a tr24. Lighter than a gen 2 razor. Really wish NF would update that NXs and ditch the NX8 line.
NVG ramp up we are seeing will kill lvpo sales because most people want a passive NVG aiming solution. At that point you already have a good enough close range aiming solution, why not stretch your main optic out further for no weight hit.

Interesting video, I do feel a lot of people would’ve like to see a section of the video going over a more detailed overview of each gun or maybe a tale of the tape comparing your two rifles, like optic, barrel length, overall weight etc etc. I watched the whole video and maybe when you guys talked about 55 vs 77 gr maybe show some grouping images or what your dope is. A little bit of rambling and re use of the same shooting clips but good video, glad to see men of culture using Trijicon stuff and someone else not focusing everything on a cqb gun.
I did this with my gpr (16" 1:8, 1-4 lpvo)a few weeks ago. I run a 50/200 and with 55gr (mfr immaterial) I generally get around 2moa. I took a box ea of Ammo Inc 77gr, Hornady 75gr, and some Tula 70-something gr just to see a range of high end to cheap.
All gave about 1.5moa. The Ammo Inc was POA/POI at 100yd. The other two shot a little high. Hornady stove piped on an early round (5th-6th, somewhere in there) then t ran fine, and the Tula left the first case in the chamber- after that it ran fine.
Group size is largely on me since I shoot my GPR more rarely than anything else I own.
The best deal for a quality AR-15 on the market today is the Ruger AR556 MPR #8539. 18" gas gun with a chf barrel, chrome lined bcg and gas key for around $850.
STAG makes uppers for lefties, as well. Just an FYI...and it doesn't break the bank.
