Y'all know this is just my opinion, right?
You would’ve given it a 10/10, if the band was called “Code Melon”.
Woahhhh save that hot take for the let's argue
I agree
@@spitmacabre I AAAAAAGREE
SI Weezy it’s pronounced Mel-own
Honestly thought those .5 second pauses were one of the best ideas seen on the album, especially when they showed up towards the end of the album
I genuinely thought my headphones were breaking, but really it just brought my full attention back to the song.
Going from "aw WHAT THE FU- to OH SHIIIIIIIIT." in .5 seconds is a pretty impressive effect created with pure silence imho.
Hutch theBOI one of my musician friends said that one of the best ways to grab a listeners attention in a song is just silence, so I agree. The little skips really bring me back into the song right at the moments when my attention starts to trail off
Agreed. Very effective attention-grabber
I agree . Fuck melon
I thought it was incredibly gimmicky, a cheap ploy by the person who did the editing, most likely Shade.
I think they did the pauses on tracks they released in 2019. So idk how this is unforeseen
Swallowing the Rabbit Whole slaps harder than my step dad's belt buckle and you can't convince me otherwise, Melon.
Considering he gave this album an 8 he probably just thinks that song is meh. I doubt he skips it when he listens to the album
What a well -articulated, thoughtful assessment of a record you clearly enjoyed. Nice job, Melon.
Karmen Võ my nigga the videos only been up got a minute

but was he racist tho
You did it wrong. You're supposed to finish it with "unsubscribed".
The fact that you don't make the cliche twist is unsetling me

I saw Code Orange Kids in the back of a bowling alley in 2013, playing for like 20 people and now they have released my favorite album in a long time.
Pretty incredible
The Garden Bowl?
How were the drugs?
They were already Code Orange by at least October 2014. I saw them then in Pittsburgh.

Chandy97 This has been an interesting time in heavy music. Hope some these bands find the success that Code Orange is witnessing at the moment.
Power Trip needs more appreciation. Nightmare Logic was amaizing.
I’ll just go ahead and add Khemmis to the list while we’re at it
Dont forget loathee
Chandy97 Silent Planet needs a shout out.
Reba's Guitar has a unique killswitch so they can preform those audio cuts live. I love it.
That's fucking sick. I definitely liked the cuts, and was hoping to see them live at the start of April. But, y'know...[gestures at the entire world]

@@13Gisang I was supposed to go to the album release show this past saturday, but it also got canceled. Luckily they performed in an empty venue and streamed it on twitch, where it's still available, and that performance is gonna be streamed here on RUclips tonight at 7 pm with QnA as well. I watched it live, and it's definitely still a great performance. I'd recommend it if you haven't seen it already and are looking for something to fill the place of the actual live show

I love them, too. The off-puttingness of them is perfect

When Swallowing the Rabbit Whole is the least fav track, you know this is a damn good album
I find it weird that “Swallowing the Rabbit Whole” is your least favorite track, yet you listed it as one of the best tracks of the week it was released.
Great review, though.
Just goes to show how high he is on this album
He changes his opinion on singles a LOT
You can love a song from an album and still have it as your least favorite song in that album. There are albums where i love every song, but obviously don't love all songs in it equally.
it's just one of those cases where the format he's chosen for himself has him forced to choose a least good song on a very good album
similarly he gave doomtech high praise before vein released errorzone then he said it was the worst song on the album once it was out
I loved the silent edits, especially on Swallowing the Rabbit Whole :(
SAME
I was with him at first, but once you are able to digest the record more, they are so perfect. This band is insanely good.
How do I get into this band? I listened to that song and didn’t necessarily enjoy it. Any tips?

I gotta say those brief pauses in swallowing the rabbit whole really make the song pop. it was already a banger but every time i put it on and the silence hit it snaps me to full attention and really makes the song stand out. its memorable mostly for its new way of being dischordant. love the shit out of the breakdown at the end too. holy.

Saying "Code Orange Juice" and laughing for 8 minutes is not a review, Melon.
Anthony, my dad said if you don't review the new Shopping record, he's gonna go out for cigarettes again. Please Anthony, I don't wanna lose him for a second time. Review the god damn album
I think I might be the only one but I love those edits where the audio cuts completely.
Same. I'm a fan of the sudden cuts.
Same, it actually flowing well to me
@@TerraAduroTV yeah gives the songs a frantic glitchy sound, I fucking love this album.
they are very disorienting, but i appreciate how fucked they are... the producer(s) didn't even make any fades on the audio clips so they have that ugly clicking!
I think a lot of us do. Like, I agreed with literally everything he said about them ("feels like you suddenly went deaf or blind ; completely disorienting") but I'm just like "Yeah and it fuckin rules lol"
I used to like logic, the rapper. Although you have reviewed him so poorly that I really don't care for him anymore. Btw I have a 93 Toyota Paseo.

That's crazy because I really like that disorienting silence on STRW, makes it sound scarier lmao
Sean Dehban Same
I AGREE
Honestly loved the sparatic silent pauses that happen in the middle of some of the songs on this album, love the review too melon
Man I enjoyed the hell out of those total silence breaks because of how jarring they were, not many “abrasive” sounds in rock really grab my attention nowadays but those did for sure. Great review, absolutely love this record
To me it seems like those sudden silent moments in the first couple of tracks are supposed to be jarring. They bothered me at first, but now I couldn't imagine those songs without them.
The silence stop of swallowing the rabbit whole is actually what made me really love this record.
The loud mastering on the record is likely due to the mastering engineer, Vlado Meller. He has been responsible for many extremely loud records such as Californication and MBDTF, and almost everything he works on is clipped to hell to the point of distortion. It works pretty well for Code Orange, though.
Wow, that is actually super interesting.
I feel like the way you’re describing the positives of this album could also be applied to loathe’s new album, will have to give this a listen as I loved I Let It In And It Took Everything, really standing out as a potential album of the year for me
My first Code Orange album, it reminds me of an industrial Slipknot with more atmosphere. I’m loving this album, Code Orange sounds like the future of metal
They remind me more of like, an Adema, than Slipknot. But yeah.
I hear the Slipknot influences sometimes too. Also check out Loathe because their sound is very boundary-pushing too.
Interesting, Swallowing the Rabbit Whole is the one I'm finding myself going back to the most. Can't get enough of those harmonic riffs!
Why does this dude keep uploading videos of him just saying "Balenci Balenci Balenci" for almost 10 minutes?
Cause he's a twizted psykopath.
moral of the story:
_don’t eat a rabbit_
*morsel
Honestly, I think this is their best album. Haven't watched the review yet. My strong 8.
Your opinion has been approved
Agreed! I felt like it was their best album after the first or second listen. It's so stacked with great and layered songs. I wish he would've mentioned The Easy Way because that is one of my favorite songs on the record and it's been stuck in my head from the first time I heard it.
I am king is my favourite & I still haven’t listened to forever yet.
So basically you're saying that this album is rodeo of metalcore
yes.
Essentially
yep
The best and most expansive metal album in ages. We need more of this to push the genre forward 9/10
I don't get how people think this style is new or unique. It's just 90's industrial and Nu-metal combined with late 2000's metalcore which are three of the worst subgenres in all of metal. Return to Dust and I Am King are both masterpieces, I'd put them both in my top 10 albums ever made but with this album and Forever they totally lost all the qualities that made them such a unique hardcore punk band on their earlier records.
This style isn't pushing the genre forward, it's bringing it back to 20 years ago when metal had become commercialized mass-produced garbage
Code Orange was never like converge, people just say that because they were both really dissonant and noisy. On the surface they sound similar but the songwriting itself and the riff structure are totally different. The entire Love is Love // Return to Dust album flows together perfectly as just one long song, which is more advanced than anything converge has ever done
Ethan N except this isn't commercial at all, production on this would turn off most of the nu-metal fanbase imo. Love is love is fantastic, but to me the newer stuff is more memorable, more of it's time, despite obviously drawing from older styles. Personnally, it's the hate towards this and forever I don't get at all
@@samuelmercier3635 The thing I loved so much about code orange kids stuff is that it combined hardcore punk with progressive metal elements in a way that hadn't really been done before. I do respect Underneath for going back to a more progressive songwriting approach, where each song flows into the next and multiple tracks string together into one, similar to Return to Dust. Because of that, I like this record slightly more than Forever. Forever felt more like a collection of individual songs rather than a full, cohesive body of work
Ethan N how were those records more unique? Please enlighten me.

My guess would be milo/R.A.P Ferreira's newest album.

REVIEW THE GARDEN - KISS MY SUPERBOWL RING
Just because you love Annoying Orange doesn't mean you can fill the video with jabs at the band and then give them an 8
This is it. Underneath is to Code Orange what OK Computer was to Radiohead. There's no going back to what they were. They're ascended up to a whole new level.
Lookin like Arthur.
Good job, man! I would love to see a video on" kiss my super bowl ring " by the garden. It's definitely worth taking a look at.
-They literally go for disorienting
-..."it's disorienting..."
-Least favorite track
you talk about how much you love metalcore but I feel like you barely do any reviews of metalcore records. Like I get that it doesn’t get the same views as more mainstream music and that the modern bands in the scene can be really repetitive and unoriginal. But it would be super cool to see you do some throwback reviews of classic metalcore albums you grew up on. If I saw a TND review of like earth crisis or snapcase I would click that shit so fast fr👀
Code Orange is like the Pink Floyd of Hardcore/Metalcore. They are pushing the boundaries of heavy music in such unique ways that leave me more excited for whatever comes next. Also, Reba Meyers is a HELL of a shredder, singer, and songwriter.
The album isn't made for a first listen. It is made for the third listen, and that's when the abrupt silence parts really shine.
Ya that's how I got into it almost wrote them off glad I didn't
if you enjoy industrial metalcore, check out Northlane’s album “Alien” that came out last year
Terry Crews He would hate it
MK4vDubbin I know I did lmao. I miss the Adrian era of Northlane
Carlos Ruiz Eh. I love the album personally I just don’t think it’s Anthony’s cup of tea. I think Marcus is a much more well rounded vocalist. Adrian def had more brutal lows but he can’t sing to save his life. As much as I love the old Northlane stuff I’m glad they found their own sound. They would have become really stale if they continued to put out the same djenty deathcore albums.
I love Code Orange they did a few songs for some wrestlers in WWE's NXT brand. I am surprised people have started getting into them outside of pro wrestling.
People have been into Code Orange wayyyyyyy before they did a few Wrestlers themes. Hell I've been hearing them on a few radio stations since at least 2016.
People were into them before wwe dude.. Thats why wwe was interested in them
This album is so sick. Loved the breakdowns and vocal changes throughout the albums
My opinion is validated. This album slaps different.
That digital silence thing you mentioned, was jarring as fuck on swallowing the rabbit whole lol.
I loved the moments of silence, such an amazing touch
I definitely was not feeling this record nearly as much as you, but I can appreciate what the band was aiming for on here.
You might also appreciate what Honey Harper aimed for on his latest album, Starmaker, as he combines folk, country, and shoegaze to create something super memorable and earworm-y
For me this record is 10/10
We have never heard anything like this
No metal record, or any record has been able to give me this kind of experience, it is whole unique in its execution, and because of that I simple can't give it anything less than a 9, though the melons viewpoint is like super hecking valid
Anthony, yelling “melon” for 9 minutes isn’t a review
Gave it a listen after hearing your recent interview. Definitely a lot of surprises. Not certain yet if I really like the record yet but I definitely would call it thought provoking, forward thinking, and remarkable. Excited to see what comes of the ripple effect.
This album reminds me of the Doom 2016 soundtrack but more fleshed out and with vocals.
Not really
@@AST-erisked When the only metal thing you've ever seen is the Doom 2016 soundtrack lmao, that's a WeirdChamp.
Anthony it’s interesting you brought up the glitch mute edits as a con, those were the things that shocked me at first when I discovered the band, and now it’s their most iconic attribute that they’ll go down in history with. It’s the part I look forward to most in their songs and it’s made new fans like me, also it’s amazing that they learned to play live with those glitches. Shade is super under rated producer code orange have so many skills they tick all the boxes , they are super under rated and will only get bigger. I love the line up change ever album and I can’t wait to see how it will change next album
This one surprises me quite a bit. I found the new Code Orange to just sound dated without adding anything unexpected or new in to a sound that feels beaten like a dead horse. But then again, meshing metalcore with industrial influences may just be two types of music I never truly loved, so i don't look through nostalgic glasses and get the feels when I hear something familiar.
Most anticipated review of the fucking year. When I saw the notification for it, I ran into the other room to watch it. I knocked a shelf over, face planted, and stubbed my toe. It was worth all of that.
Ok melon, we know you like Mr. Trump, but this isn’t a review
Honestly, my favorite metal record of the year so far. I dug almost every minute of it, the only song that was kinda weak for me was autumn and carbine. I personally felt it was a 9/10
This review really encapsulates what music criticism should be. Great job Melon.Unsubscribed
I agree, the sudden complete silence on Swallowing the Rabbit Whole is very disorienting....and that's why I love it.
But then there's Pitchfork, who didn't like this album in hipster fashion.
"An overzealous pastiche full of inspirations but near-devoid of new ideas, Underneath is as goofy and garish as the worst of nu metal."
I'm trying to figure out if they listened to the same album... lol
Another comment said they gave Lateralus a 2. Why do they even deserve any credit?
i love the silence breaks it's trippy
It's a strong 9 in my heart
Album is awesome. Band deserves all their success. My seven-year-old built a quarantine pillow fort while jamming out to this today.
Idk how you give this an 8 and Vein’s Errorzone a 6 lol
Errorzone deserved better, buuuut I think this is much more engaging and memorable of a record.
Errorzone is straight-up sloppy compared to this.
Errorzone is kinda simple/sloppy compared to this album
he gave new loathe 6 too which is just straight up blasphemy, if anything underneath is the 5-6
what is your stance
Personally, when they dropped forever I thought „wow, they can never top this“ and then this came out and.... I was wrong, they topped this with cream on top. I absolutely love this album
Melon, you can't just.... oh whatever, you did a good job and I'm glad to hear your opinion.
I’m sorry Anthony my mom said I can’t come over she thinks you might have the Corona Virus
Personally, I enjoyed Forever's more atmospheric industrial elements, but I vastly prefer the subvertive pauses in this album to the long pause in "Kill the Creator." The former causes panic, the latter just kills all momentum for me.
Listen to this while you play DOOM.
No no no melon, Swallowing the Rabbit Whole was one of the best cuts on the album, and those jarring bursts of silence are bold af
This is one of the best hardcore albums for a long time, this is gonna change everything.
bruh those 100 to 0 moments, the "silent edits" in the beginning of the record, are fuckin HHAAAARD, love em
Is he gonna do don Tolivers heaven or hell?
Review "The Art of Adolescence" by Yaro and the Static. They are a Pittsburgh band like Code Orange was, same school too I think. It's actually really good.
Woah hold on now this isn’t the Jay electronica review
this is better anyway
6/10
I love the silent cuts personally
Saying black people are “Underneath” human standards isn’t nice Anthony
quite unoriginal
He never said that though
I had sort of liked the band in passing but I checked the singles and I was intrigued. Once the album dropped I was blown away at how great it was. Reba's clean vocals were a huge highlight for me.
Where is the ‘A Written Testimony’ review melon
Those silent breaks really just make it that much better for me. Jpeg and clipping use these edit styles heavily and you’ve never criticized them for it, but I understand if you don’t like it in metal
FINALLY SOMETHING WORTH A HIGH RATING
Swallowing The Rabbit Whole might be my favorite track on the album.
Okay Fantano, we get that Jaime looks a bit like a hardore Jerry Seinfeld, but you didn’t have to do the whole review with a Seinfeld impression.
It would be really nice to see your take on Negura Bunget's Om in classic albums category.

For as long as I've been watching your videos, I always thought you'd been saying "hit that upworthy link" in your outro but now I know you're saying "hit that up OR THE link". I don't know what's real anymore.
Melon, reviewing an album called 'Underneath' doesn't give you the right to crawl underneath my 9 year old sister's bed at night.
