As someone whose favorite generation is 4 and whose favorite region is Sinnoh, I have no reservations saying that Diamond and Pearl are probably the worst primary pair of Pokémon games. Red and Blue are held together by duct tape, faith, and luck, but they’re the OGs. They started a whole franchise. Gold and Silver probably have the most iconic postgame ever, no exaggeration. I mean, has there ever been another sequel where the postgame’s climax had you face off against the protagonist of the first game? That’s some real good story there. Ruby and Sapphire were just solid all around. No real complaints or praise that was changed enough to note in Emerald. Black and White, I have to admit, I think are the best. I could launch into a whole essay, but I’m pretty sure the Gen 5 version differences video covers it fairly well. Same deal with B2/W2. X and Y were... eh, in terms of gameplay, and kinda cool, in terms of story. The jump to the 3DS’s graphics and music, quality, though, were phenomenal, so they get points for that. Sun and Moon basically just improved from X and Y, and Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon basically just improved from Sun and Moon. That’s basically all I have to say there. But with Diamond and Pearl, the games just always felt like they were testing the waters on the DS. I never actually realized how much of what I loved about Sinnoh came from Platinum until replaying Diamond and Pearl. In D/P, the method in which you get your starter is practically a copy/paste of how you got your starter in Hoenn. The in-battle graphic design is lackluster. So many areas were redesigned in Platinum because of how bland and uninspired they were in D/P. And, above all else, the story, characters, and lore that came out of Sinnoh were practically nonexistent in D/P. Cyrus was a one-dimensional cartoon baddie with no real reason for existing other than necessity. Cynthia disappears halfway through the story and doesn’t reappear until the League. The culmination at Spear Pillar is anticlimactic, because you’ve already been told what’s going to happen. And the postgame is just not there. I love Gen 4 to bits, but I have to be honest. Platinum is the only thing that saved my favorite region.
The Illusionist I agree, but most most primary games are lacking to their 3rd game. Crystal had the boy and girl options, had the battle tower, major graphic improvements, and just more of a story. Emerald was just amazing because of how much was added to the post game and the story. It was a fun play through and after beating it, the amazing battle frontier was available. Platinum was just much more smooth and interesting compared to diamond and pearl. Diamond felt slow and boring, but platinum improved it greatly. BW 2 was a good sequel but certainly not the most interesting in terms of story or post game. USUM were probably the worst because of how little they changed from the originals with the addition of rainbow rocket and some other things.
Pranav Srinivasan Honestly, I kinda disagree on US/UM. I think the main issue with them is just that they should have been a single, third-version game, and at the same time, I understand why they weren’t, since making a single game out of the two different games before it would have been way too challenging. But yeah, look at Evie’s video on differences between S/M and US/UM. I didn’t realize just how much was different between them until I watched that video. That said, I do agree with everything else you said. Base pair games are always lacking when compared to their follow-ups. I just think that, when standing on their own, Diamond and Pearl are the weakest of them all.
I never played platinum and played it now for the first time holy fuck this game has such major changes it's almost completely different from the DP pair

Great video, but you forgot the stupidest plot change in Platinum. Since Cyrus plans to use both Dialga and Palkia in Platinum, he needs two Red Chains. He gets the first one the same way he did in Diamond and Pearl: by capturing the lake legendaries and using their crystals(?) to create it. And how does he get the second one? He just makes another one artificially. What!? How!?
David Ward Easy. He makes one by studying the original chain. He was noted to always work with machines since he was young, so it isn't impossible for him to create one.

I think "spirit" was mistranslated as being Cryus' goal to eliminate. In all media, aside from the games that he first appears in, Cryus is characterized and described as being emotionless, calm, and reserved but can completely lose composure from time to time. Cryus thought that emotion was the source of all problems in the world due to his kinda depressing childhood. So, it is supposed to be "emotion", not "spirit". Botched translation strikes again!
We can't forget that Diamond and Pearl were the LAST games ever released in PAL regions with the slot machines at the game corner. In Platinum the NTSC version had the slot machines usable, but PAL had them locked out - and due to the way Explosion was gained in Diamond and Pearl (getting a streak of luck on the slots) it became impossible to get in PAL Platinum

doesn't cynthia give you togepi in eterna city?
Only in platinum
I LOVE GEN 4 :D
can't wait for the gen 5 one! Love this series!
Did anyone come here after brilliant diamond and shining Pearl remakes were announced?
Yes
Ye but im trying to buy the original first
@@lorenzoron8608 the graphics of the original are so much better to me, and it hold a lot more nostalgia. But if you’re looking to pick between each one, just go for platinum because it’s the better of the 3.
I dont know to to feel about those games honestly
@@hoobslice im a month late but thanks i got a copy and beat it rn im just playing pokemon sun
Lol Brendan is just like “The mitochondria is the powerhouse of a cell” I love the random little comment from my friend bread
I hope she covers the version different from Diamond and Pearl to the remakes! Like she did for the first 3 generations.
Platinum, was my game, this gen. I love it! but kinda slow animations...
Considering the time they were released, the animation is top notch. 👌
@@Pitzuuuuuh it was amazing, but having to see Blissey's hp deplete for almost 30 seconds is irritating.
@@rogue1248 good thing i play on emulator
DO GEN. 5! Black has more trainers to battle & White has more Pokémon, but I chose Black!
wait for sun and moon, first.
Cool Dreemurr gen 2 had 2 regions. try to top that. ;)
I Have Both But I Completed White Not Black
Exotic Meltdown change your profile picture bro
I chose white, because Zekrom is way better than Reshiram
I think "spirit" was mistranslated as being Cryus' goal to eliminate. In all media, aside from the games that he first appears in, Cryus is characterized and described as being emotionless, calm, and reserved but can completely lose composure from time to time. Cryus thought that emotion was the source of all problems in the world due to his kinda depressing childhood. So, it is supposed to be "emotion", not "spirit". Botched translation strikes again!
I have to say, you are very clear in speaking in these videos and even though it's a fair amount of information it's really easy to comprehend.
So theyre basically the same games, with platinum looking better. Nice, nice job
DP remakes need to happen!
And platinum
HennibsDP which is better game? Diamond or pearl
@@Willioxys1907 they are the same, only available pokemon changes
@@depression_isnt_real yes, but to be honest im a bit worried as well...
3:51 NO RALTS KIRLIA GALLADE?! Gardivoir is Ok to be left out
what
DJ Tile Turnip *slaps*
No it ISN’T
Me watching this trying to figure out if I want brilliant diamond or shining pearl
Better get platinum
Hope you haven't bought it. Best way to enjoy gen4 is Platinum.
Honestly I always thought rotom was a gen 5 pokémon...
Thanks pokémon anime.
Cynthia actually gives you the Togepi egg in Eterna City, and a man gave you the Happiny in Hearthome in D/P
7:35 for a split second the first battle frontier guy frowns. I am confused
didnt mention the gym order switch up (1->2->5->3->4->6->7->8)
You got to love the random person coming around 4 years after these games were in their prime to have some memories again
whos here in 2024 just started a new playthrough
Will you do the remakes too, Lucy?
Hopefully! I'd like to cover all of the main games of each generation first though :)
CandyEvie please do more of these episodes like gen 5 and gen 6
CandyEvie please do more of these episodes like gen 5 and gen 6
Ben Dean-Edwards She just said that.. .-.
Watch the video until the end before commenting
Platinum is one of my favorite Pokémon game ever!
"The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell" XD
I played Diamond and then Platinum as a kid
I’m playing Platinum on a DS from eBay right now haha, I kept Platinum all these years later
I didn’t realise all those differences, thank you for this video
I wish old Pokémon games weren’t so expensive I really wanna play soul silver but it goes for $125 😔
Trapinch is in the FLYGON LINE!?!
I thought it was just a non-evolving pokemon...
I didn't even know it existed until I got pokemon x!
I never knew karrablast existed either...
or clamperl...
My first pokemon game was pokemon ranger: shadows of almia, okay?!
to be fair, that's a good pokemon game lol
Now shadows of Almia is famous because of Jaiden animations
Can we all just say that diamond and pearl were a beta for platinum? Ok? Ok.
can game freak just remake platinum instead of both diamond and pearl
But they always have two versions in a generation
a human, duh ik, it’s so sad
HGSS keeps most of the changes from Crystal despite having the names of the original games. Hopefully that's how it will be
I'm revisiting this video after brilliant diamond and shining pearl. Wow, your voice has change. Still a good video
It looks like dialga and palkia are two brothers fighting about who is a better Ninja turtle and giratina is their mother who slaps them and makes them take naps until dinner.
Now you have to make one for the Diamond and Pearl and their remakes BD and SP
It would just be inevitable changes and then 2 minutes about the grand underground LMAO
i remember playing platinum when i was 6 years old and i beat the first gym and then i just kept training my magnemite forever because i didn't know what to do the levels of wil pokemon were lvl 7-8 and magnemite was lvl29 after that i lost the card where it was on and i never played it again but next week i will buy it and i'm so exited!!!
How come YourFriedBread always says something odd as heck and gets featured in these videos because of it?
He and Lucy are good friends :)
I thought they where siblings.
SmashTom By that you mean dating right, because they are.
I'm pretty sure he is her boyfriend. Or they are just really good friends, which means at least one of them is friendzoned :p
Animiles I think she talked about it in her 100k play button video, or maybe on One of PDwinnall's podcast can't exactly remember.
I know its been more than a year since this video was made but it is still helpful. I was trying to decide if I just neededed Platinum or if I should also buy a Diamond or Pearl game to go with it, after seeing this video I think that I will have everything I need in Platinum. Great series. Glad I'm subscribed.
Sam Bonnie whenever they make two base pokémon games always get the third installment it’s basically the best of both like pokémon sapphire and ruby you shouldn’t play those I mean you could but why bother when theres emerald
This has helped me with my decision on Brilliant Diamond vs Shining Pearl, thank you. I loved Pearl, but some of my favourite pokemon in the entire series are exclusive to Diamond. Who knows though? Maybe They'll release a Platinum remake too. I doubt it, but I'd love that.
They didn't. And the OG Diamond and Pearl are much better than the remakes.
Black and White here we go..
i have a question, if you gonna do the Black and white games differences you gonna include the Black and White 2 ? i think its better in this way..
4:18 I've got Manaphy because of Pokémon Ranger
They say if you're early,Evie will reply
but you're late
But she replied and thanks for put my comment in video
CandyEvie You're the best.
No, it is not plawsible
Tftoo
Brushing up on this before BDSP
THE MITOCHONDRIA IS THE POWERHOUSE OF THE CELL
hahaha I'm glad you included another meme comment at the beginning. And it was from the same person lmaoooo
Did anyone notice how she said Cynthia gives a Togepi egg in Hearthome city instead of Eterna?
Yep
"Which well take a look at later"
Shows Looker on screen
platinum was my first game I love it so much
with the remakes around the corner there's no better time to rewatch this video!
Never noticed any problem with the game being slow, despite it being my second Pokemon game. Loved these, and the video was great too!
All gen 4 games are really slow at the end and all the Pokemon have high hp. Almost as bad as Gen 2
