Madame Yoo is an 82-year-old elderly woman in Korea and has raised 5 children. She has been living alone for 5 years. Madame Yoo now survives off of a $200/month government pension and $2/day earned by tirelessly picking up cardboard boxes from morning to night.
Check out our first visit to Madame Yoo here ► • We surprised a Korean ...
It’s winter now in Seoul, South Korea, and we visited her for the third time to see how she’s been managing to keep warm. What we didn’t tell her is that we came with a surprise that would change her life forever.

@@soyoungieee No its true. Her place has lots of trash because of hoarding. She mostly relies on collecting cardboard boxes but that does not mean her place has to get to that state of being piled with trash/food waste. My grandma was a hoarder, they cannot help it. I cleaned my grandma's room many times before but the thing is she kept hoarding more afterwards. If anything, the elderly especially those who hoard needs someone to take care of them. Her kids needs to be there or someone else willing to. Tho assisted suicide is a bit too much for advice.

But those people JUNKYARD GUY really make me ANGRY how can he take advantage of grandma and not pay her well .

@@sweetyfri no i am not. They were at their most vulnerable when they were children. They are in their 70s and terrible with money like they have always been. They had 50 years to figure out how to save for retirement. If i can put a hundred grand in my 401k in ten years from 10 to 15 bucks an hour over that period, then they have no excuse considering their income levels were what mine is today when they were my age in the 60s. My responsibility is to my children who will have their college paid for by frugal parents who make less than the national household average income, and my savings will ensure that i may die with dignity. Parents should not expect their children to care for them, they should expect their children to care for their children. Hope i wasnt unclear.

I left school at 14 to care for my bedridden mother after car accident, she got well in 3 years. Now she is old I have been caring for her every need 15 years now. @@iamthatiam44444 do you live in the US julie? Im sorry you have gone through that for so long. It was not the karmic duty of a child to care for her sick mother for 15 years. Its a miserable terriblething that would bring dispair to any good parent watching themselves damage their childs future's so irreparably. The earth is not a care free happy place, the only thing that seperates you from mother natures constant attempts to turn you into dirt are 4 walls and electricity. If you Do live in the us and your mother has been bedridden for 15 years the government can assign her a state appointed caretaker, if she has been well enough to do something to earn an income then she may have decided that it was your duty... some parents are travel agents for guilt trips, and if that is the case i suggest you move out and tell her to get her butt answering phones at a call center or something so you can get back to the life you put on hold 15 years ago. I understand i dont know the nature of her disability, but there are still disabled people who can do things... thats why they make buildings handicap accessable. If you dont live in the us there probably wont be much of a social safety net for your mother to fall back on, and that is a whole other can of worms. But you have a good story to tell and you have internet, so tell your story and people may help, and can be very willing to extend the same help that they recieved during tough times. Think of all your options because knowledge is power

Korean society, like most Asian societies, is all about lineages and appearances. If you are poor you can’t get into a good school, good jobs, good connections, or even matchmaking prospectives. Korea more than other countries actually ask for you family’s background in some job interviews. People judge if you’re poor, like even some of the people in this video looked uncomfortable. So kids cut ties because it can hurt them if they’re seen with a family member who’s considered beneath them. It actually happens in the US too. There’s a book called the Glass Castle which was about a Ivy League graduate who cut ties with her poor parents because of embarrassment.

She immediately said "I could help a lot of people with that" such a giving heart she has, but I'm glad they knew to give it to her bit by bit so she could be taken care of for once. I'm sitting here sobbing my heart out because of how wonderful this was. She is such an adorable little lady. I wish I could have her as my grandmother. I'd be visiting her every day, helping her do whatever she needed done and just listening to that wisdom you know she has. It's sad that she was in the condition before all of this. I didn't see the previous video so I'm not sure of her story but I noticed she didn't have any family around. If there are any family members and they are in fact close by, they should be ashamed of themselves. She should be treasured. I really miss my grandparents so much and I'd love to have a granny like her.

Several European countries such as Belgium and Switzerland have legalized *assisted suicide* for the elderly people and terminally ill people.
So elderly people or terminally ill people who can''t take care of themselves anymore and do not want to spend the rest of their lives rotting away in a assisted care/retirement home have to the option of being euthanized fast and painlessly with the help of doctors.
      ~
South Korea should also legalize assisted euthanasia for elderly people and terminally ill. It would also help the poor elderly people who have not saved any money for retirement and can no longer work.

It's difficult with elderly people. Probably her children got an education and have decent jobs, they are raising their own children. But elderly people who have struggled a lot are so difficult to adapt and they are old school. They're so used to their way that it's nearly impossible to change their lifestyle. What the architect did was great cause she respected her ways. It was funny cause they gave her a walking stick and she was carrying it around not using it help herself. Yet i think her children should at least show up to clean her house, to keep it in living conditions, to make sure she goes to the doctor, to give her some extra money and hire a care giver.

My grandma has been living by herself mostly for the past few years because my mom and my uncles don’t live in the area anymore. My mom brought her to the US to live with us for 6 months. She insisted in going back home because she doesn’t know how to drive and she couldn’t leave home without one of us because she doesn’t know English. I visited her last year and she seemed happier living in a Buddhist Temple with her friends. What I’m trying to say is that as kids, we assume our parents need us and want to be living with us, but every family is different. My mom finally gave up and let her stay wherever she wants to.
