  • A major trend in fishing boats is starting to cross over to ice fishing machines like snowmobiles, ATVs, UTVs, Snow Bears and Willcrafts. Many anglers are starting to run a separate house lithium battery solely for their electronics. Advantages include cleaner power for forward facing sonar and side imaging but also peace of mind where you don’t have to worry about these units draining your cranking battery to the point where you have a low or dead battery and can’t start your boat or machine.
With the advent of smaller lithium batteries that pack a serious punch in amp hours like the Norsk Lithium 32 and 50 AH batteries, ice anglers are starting to install a house battery in their machines in particular to run stand alone GPS units and in some cases forward facing sonar. These house batteries keep your separate cranking battery fresh and devoted specifically just to starting machine. Added insurance when on the ice especially in remote areas.

I have mine on a blue Dave Genz box with the cigarette light adapter so I can throw in my sled when walking out it’s powered with a 20AH lithium, what’s nice about this setup is it is so versatile.

The big thing with any lithium is to not drain them down to empty and than leave them in the cold. With lithium batteries, you do need to maintain them in the cold by charging when they are dead.
