Thanks for doing this, it is really useful for me to see the course. I qualified in the 70-74 age group and will be riding the shorter course on Saturday
Thanks too, it is useful for me . I qualified yesterday at Champery in Switzerland in the 65-69 group and will be riding the shorter course on Saturday. i ll use semi slick maxxis reaver 700-45 for comfort and speed
My english is not so good, sorry?Very nice reportage.I have done it a month ago with my fullsuspension mtb. With the the gravel it wil be more difficult,no comfort. I am qaulified in the age group of 80years.So i hope to end in the bautifull Bondgenotenlaan.Special for me bcause i was born in Louvain. For me it is just a pleasure to participate So i will enjoy the beautifull wk gravel race.
Great work! The official/full route for the race has been released now. It has some minor changes compared to this route, which was a provisional route mainly for touristic purposes. A section in Sint-Donatuspark in the city center of Leuven for instance has been added, which will make the final km pretty technical
Thanks, I've compared my track and the official one. In Tervuren, the route takes you right in front of the palace. In Oud-Heverlee, there is a little detour through the village center instead of the big road. In Leuven trough the park and skipping the Grote Markt, so you come later on the Bondgenotenlaan. There is no passage through Abdij Park, but around. And as I mentioned in the video, you will pass through the manege, come out at the chapel and go straight on at the Zoete Waters.
I used 45mm Pirelli Cinturato RC, because the week before I did Houffa Gravel on rougher terrain and I didn't change the tires. I recommend faster and smaller tires like Continental Terra Speed 40mm, but all depends on the weather of course.
According to RideWithGPS 40% road, 57% off-road, 3% unkown. But my feeling is that road represents more than 40%. It also depends if you count cobbles as on- or off-road...
Still making my way through the video. Absolutely fantastic. Thoughts on gearing? And perhaps help qualify it with your w/kg? Seems like compared to last years course there aren't as many crazy steep ramps, but very much appreciate your real world experience.
With gears, I can't really help. I don't have as much power as those who are qualified. What do you mean by last year? If you mean the BC / EC then the course is mostly the same, but coming from Halle and a crossing to Leuven.
@@jurgenloseshispedals Ah as an age grouper myself I was just curious what gears you were running on your bike when you did the course. When I referred to last year it was the Italy course which had some wild short but very steep climbs (0.7km, average 11.6%, max 23% as an example)
OK, I rode with a 10-44 cassette and 38 in front. I saw the live coverage of the Worlds in Italy, and this course is completely different. There are some steep climbs, the toughest is in Leuven. See the video at 3:47:00, but it is short. It's parrallell to a climb of the road championships in Leuven in 2021 where Julian Alaphilippe won: ruclips.net/video/0eVWxl3Vwzw/видео.html
@@jurgenloseshispedals fantastic, thank you very much for the details. I ran the same cassette but with a 40t and the day was full of power PRs. I think I'll travel with a mullet set up in the future. Thank you for your work and replies, so very helpful for those who are travelling.
Unfortunately, I was unable to qualify. I have ridden 16 UCI Gravel races since they announced that the World Championship was going to arrive in my hometown, but not come close to qualifying. But I will support from the VIP for everyone :-)
Oh dear !! I'm afraid to end up in the canal soon after the start!! Such hectic moments there :) :) :) ! Really appreciate your work !!! And see you there ! Cheers from the Italian M5 team. BTW , any advice for the chainring ? 42-44? No steep climbs, I see.
It might be that they change the route on certain points, so it's also possible that they skip that part and take the big road directly. The first part of the local loop is tricky, the second part is more on roads. I think it's possible to rectify any situation there. The steepest climb is in Leuven just before the finish. As there is a chance of 90% that the wind will blow from Halle to Leuven, it will be fast.
Hi - thanks for posting. I'm wondering about the percent grades - your video shows short, but steep climbs - some over 15% - is that accurate. Thanks.

Many factors play here: wind, rain, which age group. But the best age groupers will have more than 35km/h I think.
Where's the gravel?
This is UCI Gravel World Championships or Asphalt World Championships???
There is indeed a lot of hard surface. The rules state that 60% must be off-road. I don't know if they have that here.
I agree. If you want more gravel and you definitely can, you should adapt the gpx with komoot. Thanks for the upload.

Good thing with belgian roads is, you don't see the difference :)
