We just moved out in May we lived in a hot zone, everything was happening there. Our place was shot up twice while we slept. I thank Yah for his protection, I feel for all of family members still there, it's not bad every where but when you live in a red zone all you want to do is leave and I'm glad we're finally out.

I seen it when it was all farms. Flooded rice fields out by 99 where now is Wal Mart and the Auto Center. No I-5. They hadn't even built it yet. Salmon used to spawn in the now dried up irrigation canals that cut through town. This place is nowhere, nowdays.

Stockton really is a hard place to grow up. My stories of growing up compared to other people I know is just so different. The violence and intolerance we see in everyday situations is just crazy. Other people grew up normal, we grew up with parents on dope or alcohol and us and our friends getting locked up or killed. It's another world. I thank God that I made it out. My last year in Stockton was bad. I was bad into drugs. I was trying to drink all day, do coke all day. Trying to drive around and fight with people I don't know. I hope one day Stockton is peaceful but I'm glad I got out and got sober.

I grew up in stockton.. I got nearly killed and shot in the face in stockton.. I moved out of stockton.. and then I moved back to stockton after being away for 4 years.. Stockton is my home, no matter how hard it gets.. This is the city I love, when I thought I hated it.. But im here on a mission now, to make sure the pain I felt, doesnt spread to the younger kids.
I grew up in east Stockton in the late 90’s, early 2000’s (teen years). Growing up with a single mother who worked graveyard and slept all day, she was too busy to be a mother. I’ve easily been in over 20 street fights, I’ve been jumped twice, robbed at gun point, hooked on drugs and dropped out of high school in 9th grade. Out of my core group of friends, ones dead and one is in prison. I wasn’t gangster and wasn’t looking for trouble, I was honestly a nerd with no guidance. My childhood was rough but I wouldn’t trade it for another, I had a lot of fun growing up in east Stockton and a ton of great memories.

I grow up in Stockton move out in 1996 after losing my friends and family to gang shooting. Now at 40 year old looking back I was the lucky one thank to my parents for moving us out of Stockton.
I have lived in Stockton my entire life along with my family and extended family. I grew up being used to the gun violence and violence in general. Though this city isn't as bad as people make it seem. It's not the worst city there are worser. It's just a very poverty stricken place. Despite that it's your mentality that makes you who you are especially when you live here. Though I've lived in the ghetto my entire life I still go to college and attain a nice job. All while helping the community. All of these things can be achieved with the mentality that we can make it out of the slums and into more wealthier or financially stable life standards. Also this is not all of Stockton I've seen the best and the worst of this place along with the same sides of the coin for communities. You need to interview Stockton citizens and ask them rather than only using certain people to attain a particular perspective or agenda towards our small city.
I agree, I’ve lived here all my life and never really had a negative experience. I don’t live in the super nice areas either.

I was a teacher is SUSD for 25 years and saw so much potential in Stockton kids. I only moved to be closer to my family in the Bay Area but would have stayed because there are so many good people in Stockton trying to make a difference. I still have some of my closest friends and family there. I give praise and prayer to the leaders who are tying to bring peace and support to the youths of Stockton. Keep up the hope as someone has to care for our youths.

Dang, it saddens me how much the city I grew up in just has a steady increase on violence. I still live in the city but I hope that sum day God will change this with the right people
The public should have more information on the "cash for criminals" program. I didnt like how he said only right wing oppose it because of racism. How about the fact that you are paying young people not to get caught getting in trouble. Who pays for this? Tax payers? Who monitors this? Who checks up on those who are being paid?

I'll tell you the answer why this is happening and I'm only going to say it once. It's the music us hood nigas grow up listening to. The game has changed and every kid growing up that hears it wants to live it even if it's not for them. That's the start of everything.

I've been fortunate to be having a "positive" experience living in Stockton, Ca. I moved here 20 plus years ago newly married. I have benefited from San Joaquin Delta college and my children have thrived in Lincoln Unified School District. We are part of our local Catholic church, we are involved in "I love Stockton campaign" once a year. My children are part of 4H which does a ton of community service projects. We've served the homeless down at St. Mary's dining hall. We've walked the campus at UOP and enjoyed Lincoln center and the Miracle Mile. My point is there is GOOD in this city. One has to seek it and look to the bright side of things. My deepest sympathy for the mom showcased here and her son. I'm sorry that happened to you.

For those who have to live in Stockton with single parents which is at its highest. They have to live in poverty and live with what they have I wish me and my siblings would have gone to a different school. We thank god for have graduated and now in college but we live in fear. I have lived in stockton all 17 years of my life. The city has its ups and downs and not all of it is horrible but I agree that there is to much violence and to many homeless people and drug additcs on the street. Most schools are full with kids who grew up in a rough neighborhood and they end up trying to act tough and that will eventually end up either in a gang and probably end up dead. The few schools that are safe and good are the highschool that you must apply at and have good grades. I am currently a senior at Weber Institute and it makes me sad to see me childhood home slowly decend more into madness

Regardless of where you was raised at, nobody is telling you to go shoot somebody. Guns don't kill people, it's the people in Stockton who choose to go out into the community with a gun to use it to shoot other people in the community that's sad. I like living in Stockton, hopefully one day crime in Stockton will go down to make the community feel safe.

I live in stockton. I lived in alot of dangerous city's in California but nothing so far tops Stockton. Littrally once every other day you here gun shots. I'm not in the mix anymore but you never know if your going to get robbed or set up. It's crazy out here.. I work in lawn maintenance at a apartment complex and kids were riding dirtbikes with ak-47s shooting at each other.
Teach kids family first over anything❗ cuz people got this mentality where they think there friends are gonna be there for em. But theyre only there 4 you when its 4 there benefits or benefit in the moment. Part of growing is facing Trial and tribulations especially as young man.

Stockton has gotten way worse. I remember as a child going to downtown Stockton to Sears or Newberry. Down town was bustling with businesses. Now it’s almost apocalyptic. Gangs have always been around in Stockton. There’s is less obvious gang activity, but no action from the local government to make change.

I used to live in Stockton and it was a lot of problems with it but I still will remember where I grew up and the memories I have there.
