For most the charges will be pretty minimal. Parking and watching isn't gonna draw much traction from the courts. Its the Fines, fees, and all that from the towing and impound that will be the real punishment. Holding the vehicles until adjudication is smart by the Sheriff. He knows the charges will be weak misdemeanors, but thousands each for tow and impound.

I've been in the auto enthusiast community my entire life. I grew up in it. My dad used to drag race on the streets when he was a kid. My grandpa was an original hot rodder in the 50s. They both agree that sideshows are absolutely stupid and nothing but dangerous. Even they knew to keep their stupidity away from innocent people.

Literally! They charge $350 for 2 days of sitting in impound, it takes at least 2-3 months for a court case to get settled & they impounded over 90 cars that’s a good $1,000,000+ they’ll make with everyone combined

Well said seagrave! My wife and I had our Christmas Eve and Christmas Night ruined by the scum in Costa Mesa at an AirBnB we were renting. The noise went on until past midnight. It wasn't just the cars. We had to listen to loud firecrackers going off as well.
When I used to participate in sideshows 20 years ago, it would be at 2am in industrial areas or parking lots. Now people are blocking off intersections in residential areas in broad light.

Sounds like the mayor needs more revenue. So, how are all these people supposed to go to work, pick their kids up from school, buy groceries, ect? @@PGXPPR- Just figured it out but I still have to subtract for the funerals of the victims and the coroner and the medical examiner and the ambulance and the cost of education for each victim and their potential income over their lifetime plus the cost of the reduction of local property values before I can get you the true cost.

A lot of people have just lost their cars they wont be able to afford towing and storage fees until their case is resolved. They can say goodby to those vehicles.
best thing yet, for the ones getting their cars destroyed, there's a chance that some of them haven't even finished making payments on their auto loans to buy the cars or the credit cards used to buy the performance parts they needed to be a bunch of street racing a-holes.
by the time the case settles, those 100 dollar a day storage fees will be 7-9 thousand so what the sheriff is saying in a indrect manner is that they will not be getting back the cars. they will now have to catch the bus and lose the cars , still have to pay the bank note, get their credit ruined etc
@alexblais8076 8bsee no personal feelings being used here. The cars were used to commit a crime. Yes street racing and street takeovers are a crime. Therefore the cars can be held as evidence until each case is settled in court. As in others states each vehicle will be inspected for road worthiness for safety and compliance to state law. Any car that is deemed unsafe or overly modified may unfortunately be crushed. I believe places in Tennessee have the same leeway. As a long time racing fan and participant this behavior must be stopped.

Back in the day, there would be Friday and Saturday night drag racing. Dozens of cars and a few hundred spectators. The cops would show up with tow trucks and the fire dept would wet the street down. Nowadays, law enforcement is told to stand down and allow large groups of punks going in circles hitting spectators and causing property damage.

Well said seagrave! My wife and I had our Christmas Eve and Christmas Night ruined by the scum in Costa Mesa at an AirBnB we were renting. The noise went on until past midnight. It wasn't just the cars. We had to listen to loud firecrackers going off as well.
When I used to participate in sideshows 20 years ago, it would be at 2am in industrial areas or parking lots. Now people are blocking off intersections in residential areas in broad light.

by the time the case settles, those 100 dollar a day storage fees will be 7-9 thousand so what the sheriff is saying in a indrect manner is that they will not be getting back the cars. they will now have to catch the bus and lose the cars , still have to pay the bank note, get their credit ruined etc

Therefore the cars can be held as evidence until each case is settled in court. As in others states each vehicle will be inspected for road worthiness for safety and compliance to state law. Any car that is deemed unsafe or overly modified may unfortunately be crushed. I believe places in Tennessee have the same leeway. As a long time racing fan and participant this behavior must be stopped.

Back in the day, there would be Friday and Saturday night drag racing. Dozens of cars and a few hundred spectators. The cops would show up with tow trucks and the fire dept would wet the street down. Nowadays, law enforcement is told to stand down and allow large groups of punks going in circles hitting spectators and causing property damage.
