- This video is about Dr. Phil - The Lost Pilot! In 1991 my twin sister Jennie attended Pathways, Dr. Phillip McGraw's ground breaking group therapy in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Phil was so impressed with Jennie that he invited her home to meet Robin and his two boys. Jennie told him that she would like to produce his pilot. His replay was, "Me, on television? You think?" Dr. Phil agreed to partner with Jennie and me, her twin sister, on a television pilot. I flew out from L.A. and took his course. At the end of the Pathways course, Jennie returned to Dallas where we shot "Solutions - the Dr. Phillip McGraw Show." Jennie and I returned to Los Angeles and edited the pilot. Dr. Phillip McGraw was pleased. He then flew to Los Angeles and stayed at the St. James's Club as we showed him around Hollywood, introduced him to several people and shopped the pilot. The Wm. Morris Agency was interested, however Dr. Phil backed out. He told us that he had a company called "Courtroom Sciences" where he chose juries, and if he was recognizable to the public, he couldn't choose juries effectively. We were disappointed, however we remained friends. Shortly afterwards, Dr. Phil and Robin came out to L.A. at Jennie's invitation to attend the Country Music Awards. Jennie took Robin and Dr. Phil backstage to meet Garth Brooks and invited them to the party that followed the Awards Show.... At the time, Jennie was helping Garth Brooks at the request of his managers, Pam Lewis and Bob Doyle by introducing him to L.A. Jennie took Garth to radio stations and TV stations and introduced him to industry people such as David Letterman (who we helped get him HIS start, writing for the Tonight Show for Joey Bishop, with whom we had toured Vietnam with in 1968 with the USO) and Jay Leno who we had performed with at the Comedy Store.... Garth soon became a Superstar. Dr. Phil returned to his life in Dallas. We went on with our lives in Hollywood. Seven years later Dr. Phil chose the jury for Oprah's beef trial. Oprah won and shepherded Dr. Phil's daytime TV series. The rest is history.... This short capsule of the pilot is in honor of my twin sister Jennie who passed away in 2008 of cancer.
oh god, he sounds so much different yet still sounds the same
He sound alitte bit different actually.
@@DanielGomez-zx6px His teeth are different as well!
This man has been 70 years old for the past 30 years
He sounds like an old preacher
He sounds different now (30 years later), because his confidence has significantly increased over the years (as it should, because he is brilliant).
He's a charlatan and a mountebank. A more pretentious Jerry Springer.
The ranch rises
This should be required viewing for every US citizen
Thanks for the detailed explanation on Dr. Phil's start. May your sister rest in peace.
Give this guy an Academy award 1:12😂
All I remember is sometime in 1998 my Aunt saying with disbelief, "Have you seen this Dr. Phil guy on Oprah? He just goes up to everyone and tells them what they need to do with their lives."
Had no idea that he was even around with this concept in his head as far back as the early 90's! But I guess that's indicative of any solid grind... we don't always see all the work that led someone to where they end up being later. Or, necessarily, all the people that were also in some way contributing as well.
Back then they played carnival music on talk shows lol
AMEN!! You preach it Mr. Phil.
Aye look at Dr Phil without Grey hair
great job man
he looked exactly the same in 1991 as he does now
His hair's a bit whiter.
Yes, though his teeth were crooked!
He's actually 187 years old
@@harrywhite7639 no he's not he's 70 years old right now.
@@DanielGomez-zx6px are you sure he's not 187? 🙄
The real shocker for me is that he looks the same in the 90s 😂. He’s actually 71 now which is crazy, cause he doesn’t look much different
People talking about Phil looking the same for 30 years, but he looks so much younger here.
It's so sad to think that this show went from being taken seriously to people turning it into a meme 30 years later smh what the hell is wrong with the world lol
Thank you Terrie!!
That, was aweesooome
Before he was famous
Yeeeeaaahhh he sounds different, his voice is not as deep!!! This is sooooo weird
TRUMP 2020
@@harrywhite7639 ha 😅😅😅😂 yes!!
He was only 41 right here? Good thing for him is he still looks “41”. He looked old for his age in 1991, but looks young for his age in 2022… lol
No, he looked 67 here, and still today he still looked 67. In 1991, he looked to old for his age, but the great thing is now he actually looks his age.
@@shawnmichaels4805 No. He looks maybe 45 at most in 1991. You have to keep in mind back in the 80s and 90s people looked older than what they were. It had a lot to do with style, hair, makeup and many other factors; includong television and photos weren't as high tech which definitely adds to that. His balding instantly makes him appear older. if he had hair he would have more than likely looked more his age but still those times most people appeared older than what they actually were. Now he's rich and has all the options in the world at his fingertips as far as cosmetic assistance goes lol
@@mamajane85 he was born in 1950..saw the age ”debate”😅
So he's been trying to do show biz for a long time
Actually, Wm. Morris wanted to do this show, however at the time Dr. Phil bowed out because he had his Courtroom Sciences company and didn't want to be recognized readily as he was choosing juries. He made the right choice because he did indeed choose Oprah's jury, which led to a much bigger gig for him!
Terrie1949, this is an incredible piece of history right here :)
But I'm confused... If Dr. Phil was concerned about being recognized, why did he want to film the pilot in the first place?
Dr. McGraw!
He had a lot of passion
ah, dr phil was bald the whole time 😂
He was born bald. He's like Xur from The Last Starfighter
I want to see the whole thing!
Has Dr. Phil ever had hair?
what I heard was that Dr.phil started going bald in his teen.
Damn he never changed in 90s
Hi Terrie,
That seems like a great pilot. I'm sorry for the loss of your sister :(
I'm confused about something: I read the description. If Dr. Phil knew that he couldn't be recognizable during the jury selections, then how come he filmed the pilot?
Hasnt aged a day
That saxophone tho😵💫
I agree with you... He was 'a friend of a friend' who needed the work. That's Hollywood!
Darn, his Texan accent is more pronounced here.
link to full video?
His voice sounds high pitched here
Alitte bit high pitch because he was younger a bit.
@@DanielGomez-zx6px He was younger a BIT? Uh, yeah this was 30 years ago!
@@KJ_-mg2np he was about 40 years old here.
@@DanielGomez-zx6px he was a grown man though 😂
“Solutions"
If that is true he should not be biased against the killings of children in Palestine.
Oh be still my heart. He's an old time preacher with a voice an a half octave higher and 1987 "Days of Our Lives" cinematography! And I still love him. But suddenly have a deep...deep appreciation for the Oprah Winfrey Show productions values. Thank you Oprah, for helping hone the man's natural abilities into something wholely palatable.
