- This is a clip of an un-neutered captive wolf in the winter breeding months exhibiting 'Winter Wolf Syndrome' otherwise known as Seasonal Behavioural Aggression.

This affects wolves and high content wolfdogs mainly in the months of January and February when both sexes are fertile for reproduction.
The male wolf can only breed in these months and is unfertile the rest of the year. This hormone surge makes his normally shrunken testicles fertile for reproduction but also can make him aggressive to his keeper, especially if the keeper is male, as he will challenge him due to the protection of his female.
Female wolfdogs can become competitive too and fights can break out resulting in fatal injuries to other females. Zoo wolves are particularly affected by this, as it is an unnatural environment to put them in. In the wild, just the leading older pair will mate with minimal problems and injuries.
This is why high content wolfdogs are not advised as being kept as domesticated pets.

You ought to be next to a lion like that. He will literally make your clothes shake on your body. 8 years ago I did a delivery of fencing to a place in east texas and there was huge lion there. One of the workers walked me over to it and i had no idea what they were doing. I looked over and there was this huge lion 3 feet from me and the man hit the cage and the lion roared so damn loud my clothes starting shaking. I was in disbelief for a moment as I have never seen or heard anything like that before.

You see them all the time if you shine a bright light into someones eye as the light reflects off the blood filled tissue of the retina and bounces back toward the camera.
They used to be common in photographs, but many modern digital cameras have an auto red eye reduction effect.

I really love what you do and think you offer really valuable information anneka but this is just wrong. I know this guy and he severely mishandles his wolves and wolfdogs, this is not seasonal aggression, it is a bad owner. And a properly raised HC wolfdog or wolf will never exibhit this degree of aggression towards his owner, this is not right and it is not fair to blame it on hormones, rather than in irresponsible ownership

Looking at his (BlackCanadianWolf's) previous videos with this wolf 3 months ago (October), 2 months ago (November), and 1 month ago (December), this wolf was consistently growly and misbehaved, grabbing on his pants leg. But the wolf used to let him pet him and sometimes rolled over for pets even if he was growling. But the wolf has gotten a little bit worse recently (December/January) with a focused threatening stare to the guy while guarding a female. I think this case is roughly 80% mishandling and 20% seasonal aggression.

And I think the most horrible aspect of all of this is that if that wolf would of hurt somebody, nobody would question having put him down!!! When it's the Handler that needs to be put down, put him in a cage and see if he isn't growling after a short period of time!!!
