My husband was a very skilled faller, he could drop a tree wherever you needed it dropped. It’s a very dangerous job, you are lucky to have him as a good neighbor!
I’ve fell 1000s of trees in my life time and caution is always appreciated, I worked for the government and did work for friends never hit a house but like I said safer is better!
no disrespect i fell timber for 25+ back cut first is always ify but i watched that little tree was leaned all you had to do is tickle the face cut not beat it off the stump thats dangerious
You should get a couple of short, removable forks to go on your bucket, to make it easier to help keep the logs on the bucket when you tip it back to transport them to your log pile. You and your neighbor did a great job at taking down the trees that were a threat to your house during a high wind storm. Love and Peace. Blessed Be. Doug.
Happy Easter! You guys really need a log caddy. It rolls over your log and it attachs on two points lifting the log off the ground. So its like a wheel barrel. And you could move the logs with your tractor or your four wheeler.
Wow that was great to watch, great job guys. I know y’all are concerned about the trees close enough to fall in a wind storm, so glad they’re down ❤congratulations on great friends!
Well, some great posts for he barn, and a lot more logs to mill. Before long you'll have enough to start building! I also like the size your fire wood pile is getting too! Warm you when you cut them, warm you when you slit the, warm ou when you stack them and warm you all winter too!
HEY! They tree house!!! 20:03. You have not been up there in years.....LOL. Those were some tall trees. Nice to have expert friends that know a thing or two. Thanks for sharing
Always thought a Bucket log stop to stop the log from rolling towards the tractor driver might be a good idea. Barn lumber for the new barn just a few meters from door. Nice way to assemble the building materials.
We actually had a county road worker die from a log rolling back on the driver when he was trying to clear a fallen tree on a road, SO BE VERY CAREFUL! All it takes is a tire to hit a rock or something to cause the log to roll.
I’m with you Greg-beautiful day to be milling. I hope you build the barn big enough to last you for a long time-nothing more beautiful than a traditional barn!!
Always more comfortable having a professional alongside! Those are some nice trees, will make some good lumber, with the exception of the one with rot. I am fairly new to your channel but have gone back and watch many of them. How did your access issue resolve? I couldn't find a video that said how it was resolved. I am enjoying watching your progress, both of you are amazing workers.
Terrified of one of those huge logs rolling off the bucket. Please be safe. Hope the goats leave something to mulch up ☺️😉. Love your sweet family so much
Thank you neighbor for not felling that tree into their new home...lol 😂😅Those were some might tall trees. Love ya'll ❤️ I'm sure the lumber they produce will make an awesome barn
So glad the danger ⚠️has been removed. Bonus, that no one was hurt. With the exception of the fence, job well done. Happy Easter Greg,Katie,& the animals!💯❤️👏🏾💜🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🐇🐣🐇🇺🇸
Site prep is so important. Imagine if you spent another 2 days removing dead, dieing or leaning trees at your built site before there was anything important to not hit.
Hi there. It's a good idea for you both to be on RUclips. I love where you live and with all your hard work, you're able to afford some valuable pieces of equipment. That sawmill is paying for itself.
Hi Greg and Katie. Have you seen the technique of using a propane blow torch like your roofing torch to burn wood posts to protect them below ground. The utuber My Self Reliance 2 years alone building an off grid log cabin in the wilderness, start to Finnish shows the technique very well. This burned Finnish will be a good start to protect the 4×4 posts for your new barn. Have a good day. Tom in the Maritimes at the NB-NS border.
Just to put an idea forward, the chips could be put in sacks and sold. Gardeners, people with driveways, paths may buy the chips. Watching someone who knows what they're doing felling trees says a lot about skills from at least 100 years ago. Rot, ugh, it's a major cause of damage. Good to see it gone along with the threat to the house.👏
I've always wanted to go to British Columbia. The idea of peeing off a mountain or cutting down a douglas fir has always been a draw for me. I won't mention my third wish considering your sensitivities regarding goats. But now I'm too old for such things so I'll live life vicariously through you guys. Get at it you two. You have wishes to fullfil.
Knowing goats as I used to when living on my Uncles farm over Summer vacations, if they see fresh greens they will do their utmost to find a way to reach them, even if it means bulldozing down fences using their horms.
I know it is dangerous, I keep the bucket tilted so the log sits on the cutting edge. I certainly do not feel comfortable lifting them that high, but I have confidence that they won't roll back if I keep the bucket tilted a bit more to the front. Pallet forks will be a wonderful investment in the future
Hi guys! Would there be any benefit to to mill being six inches to a foot off the ground? You use the tractor for lifting the logs anyway, and it seems like it could save your backs a bit.
Happy Easter to you. A simple hook or two BOLTED TO THE QUICK ATTACHMENT Will keep you from breaking your legs or having log rolling backwards and getting you killed the way your going it's going to happen and I don't want it to safety first. NorthernTool supply has log tongs get one.
I think your guys hit the jack box, bought the property with the trees you could mill to boudin your own home , that’s awesome, you could build RB&B for investment later on , bright path to success ❤
Suggest getting some clamp on bucket forks to move the logs (and everything else) around. Works for my mill. Great channel and vid shots. We are in central Maine and are building an off grid tiny house. I have some questions about your solar. How can I pm or email you? Thanks and Rock on!
as i was watching this video i couldnt help but ask why Greg didnt cut the corner post of the fence that served no purpose off so it be easier to get the logs out instead of having to raise the logs so high over it?
Why do you cut further up the trunk of the tree so you leave a taller stump? Is it because it gives you more control whilst felling? Amazing to watch the process and have the trees down safely.
Keep going cutting those trees that are high enough to hit the house and buildings if they eventually fall. Benefits: less distance to haul the logs, and dangers are eventually eliminated.
I have fell timber for a many years over the years, remembering back when I thought I was all that and a bag of chips too... well I took a job falling timber, (the actual word felling is just goofy to my ears cause when a go down on my butt in the ice, I call it "Falling down" so whats the diff?) so I was saying that I took a real job falling trees as I was considered by many as quite good at taking down trees in different job sites that were a problem for some person and they would all call me. I get out on the job site and hiking into the forest where such work to preform was done... noticed my breath was getting to me as I was a smoker, and all the sudden getting out to where we would cut timber... it was a bigger challenge than suspected at first. I give myself credit for lasting two weeks before I fired myself. Not only did I have trees that made your blood run cold, you had to fly at it with determination plus speed was quite important. I did not even come close to hurting myself or anyone near me but I couldn't breath, every muscle in my body was crying like a wimp and I knew if I stayed on, I would eventually kill myself as confidence was waning fast. I was smart and let others in great health do this job.. my son who is just now sixty himself heats with wood, and I taught him falling tree 101. 1 as it is a dangerous job. The young fellow helping you does it different than I would but no two tree fellers are the same. Its caution before determination every time, no ifs or buts to it. I keep hoping that you will weld some hooks on your bucket to hook chain to and keep the logs held and safer from tipping from the bucket at the very worst time... the worst time is always when stuff goes south. Or you could weld some chains on different spots on the bucket so you could hook a binder to it and make the log secured and much safer... Greg, you are considered a mans man... bull strong and Katie couldn't find a guy in this whole world who loves her any more than you do. So if a log fell and hit her... she might most likely have a bruise or three. Girls are tougher than we guys think... even so, If she did get hurt when it could be avoided, it would hurt you more than Katie as she would forgive you but knowing you, it would always be there bugging you on why did I not do better for your Katie. Not harping Greg, just looking out for you as a friend from a distance. just some short pieces of chain on say the corners and then if they are not long enough, you could always hook a short piece of chain that also has a hook so it can grab the shorter chain to make up the difference. Just some ideas for you to ponder on.... not a go out and get it done before breathing but a little thing that when done will make you feel safer and most of all keep from hurting even a puppy that runs out and you lose a log off of the bucket.
My husband was a very skilled faller, he could drop a tree wherever you needed it dropped.

@@brandon9610 I`m with you there I never put a back cut . I always cut my wedge first.

Love and Peace. Blessed Be. Doug.
You 2 are amazing. It's nice to have good neighbors. Be safe. We don't want to lose either one of you. Always praying for you.
Wow! That was a nice surgical take down with that tree. No collateral damage. Nice job.
Love how nothing goes to waste
Happy Easter! You guys really need a log caddy. It rolls over your log and it attachs on two points lifting the log off the ground. So its like a wheel barrel. And you could move the logs with your tractor or your four wheeler.
Those are such beautiful, straight trees. Hopefully, you'll get more great lumber out of all that material! Nicely done!
Yes, definitely sone good lumber!
Great to watch! How long does a log need to season before you can mill it?
@@justiceO8149 it doesn’t but it’s better to give logs at least a season otherwise they may warp, twist, or split.
Wow that was great to watch, great job guys. I know y’all are concerned about the trees close enough to fall in a wind storm, so glad they’re down ❤congratulations on great friends!

I haven't been up there since the fall. I still go up once in a while to have a moment to my self and look back on what we have built.
Excellent channel wonderful people. So many you tubers are strictly content creators now. You two are still. The same loving folks ❤️
Awesome job let the build being 😊 Can't wait❤ Hope your having an awesome Easter🐣🐰❤️🇨🇦
I always look forward to your new videos, thank you for sharing, and letting us be a part of your life

I was thinking the exact same thing
Hello,
Just to let you folks know, this 81-year-old man will be watching all of your videos, but just so you know not crazy about the MUSIC you chose
It's so amazing that you buy land and have trees 🌳 that you can cut your own material, the only problem is having to wait for it to dry out.
I’m with you Greg-beautiful day to be milling. I hope you build the barn big enough to last you for a long time-nothing more beautiful than a traditional barn!!
i absolutely love your content Katie and Greg!
Thank you 😊
ya for those of us who work outside a lot, we all love those days in spring cool morning and warm afternoons life is good

I bought the least expensive grapple for my Kioti tractor. It's really great for moving logs and much more. Really enjoy your content.

WOW THAT'S a great job done! Thank you neighbor!!

Great video! Have you guys considered getting fork attachments for your tractor, sure would make hauling logs a lot easier...
Ayam kalkun nya banyak juga ya👍👍👍
A very challenging work, not heating any important surrounding area.. large and long trees...👍
LOOKED LIKE ANOTHER GREAT DAY!!! HAPPY EASTER
Lots of good mulch there. Good video. Keep it up.
This barn is going to be epic!! Can’t wait till it starts going up!!✌🏻
So glad the danger ⚠️has been removed. Bonus, that no one was hurt. With the exception of the fence, job well done. Happy Easter Greg,Katie,& the animals!💯❤️👏🏾💜🙋🏽♀️✝️🙏🏾🐇🐣🐇🇺🇸
Hello from Germany from Kakenstorf Hans und Oci take care of you❤❤❤👍👍👍❤❤❤
I like the super fast motion of you two cutting up those trees. Great job!
Risky tree cutting but good to have an expert to learn from. Safer all around. Clean up, milling, firewood.
very good to see those trees down safely. but with the first one, you could have opened the gate for it .Lol. good work
Site prep is so important. Imagine if you spent another 2 days removing dead, dieing or leaning trees at your built site before there was anything important to not hit.
You have your work cut out for you 2 now.
When did you get your turkeys?
Katie I thought you would chip up tose branches.
Great job you 2.
I foresee a workout for the chipper and new wagon soon. Have good days!
Hi there. It's a good idea for you both to be on RUclips. I love where you live and with all your hard work, you're able to afford some valuable pieces of equipment. That sawmill is paying for itself.
I have helped bring down trees, but nothing this tall. You all did a great job.
❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊 happy Easter guys have a great day
Happy easter
Thanks for the Video guys!!!
Awesome!! Now you can mill more boards and chip some for the drive way.. Stay safe my friends.🤓👍🤓👍Randy.

I would leave the stumps higher, it makes removal a lot easier, the higher the better. Leverage!

Big gobblers! so glad you guys are cutting more trees from your house!
Same here!

Hi guys! Would there be any benefit to to mill being six inches to a foot off the ground? You use the tractor for lifting the logs anyway, and it seems like it could save your backs a bit.
Hmm, not sure if there would be or not. Something to think about
@This Off Grid Life you would need a ladder to add water for lube if any higher
Nice job.😊
Does your tractor have the hydraulic connections to install a grip on the bucket? Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
Katie handles that tractor like a Pro!
You need a graffil bucket for your tractor to make moving logs easier
To make those stumps rot faster. Make a shallow place in the middle and pour in some Epsom salt.
You two are Amazing!!!!😇.😇
@ 3:00 worry about your safety / really dangerous to stand in front of unsecured load !!!
You two are hard workers love your channel.❤
where is the barn going to be and how big?
18x8 interior with another 8 ft covered outdoor area.
It will be in the area where we took down the trees
I think your guys hit the jack box, bought the property with the trees you could mill to boudin your own home , that’s awesome, you could build RB&B for investment later on , bright path to success ❤

always here for you thumbs up
as i was watching this video i couldnt help but ask why Greg didnt cut the corner post of the fence that served no purpose off so it be easier to get the logs out instead of having to raise the logs so high over it?
Get those trees out of the way nice veiw of mountain 😊

It is so that I can control the tree better. It's w
Easy to cut the stump down after the tree is on the ground
Love what you'd guys have done 👍
Taking the trees down gave me so much anxiety for you guys haha
Hi from Sonora, Mexico
Nice work!!
what a great teem that U make this is Mark! oh and have a great day!
Good job 👍
Now the goats have minty fresh breath! 😁
They do smell so good after eating the fresh fir😂
Another good one.😀
Make a two wheel axle to put under the end of the tree then lift the other end and tow it
Keep going cutting those trees that are high enough to hit the house and buildings if they eventually fall. Benefits: less distance to haul the logs, and dangers are eventually eliminated.
TIM....BER,WOW you did it☘️🍀🌳🌻🪷
they make forks for that tractor quick connect
make a couple forks for your bucket to load the logs bolt on a few pipes or angle iron
Awesome 👌
lugar lindo demais ♥️
U should build your sawmill like Simple living Alaska with concrete floor and roof covered.
Katie rocks.
But congratulations cuz you guys are doing it your doing better than last time I watched one of your videos💥💥
so nice🌻
Wow!! 🎉
what size is the long bar husqvarna?
28"
The guy is good about felling trees😊
He's a professional
❤ Awesome great cut down of that risky trees
Mission accomplished !!
Couple of weld-on chain/clevis hooks on that bucket would be a good addition to that tractor.

I think I recognize the sound of a Husqvarna 371XP, or its more recent equivalent.
