Take the Guess Work Out of Natural Hair Care. ~ Facts and, "Not So" Common Sense to Longer, Thicker, Healthier Hair.
Either you trim them ends or they'll trim themselves
Lol .. exactly
LOL so true.
And then some!
@@reemallicious right lmaooooo
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You're straight to the point, timing is great, and the advice you give is natural, not a gimmick. Thank you for taking time out of your life to feed us your wealth of information, it's greatly appreciated.
Thank you for this comment... it made my day 😊
I just tune into this thank you very much
The beauty in your skin is so overwhelming.
I love this comment soooooo much. I love how women can uplift other women.❤❤
I agree
Split ends will allow moisture to escape too. That's why it feels drier
Great observation and so true
I believe you!!! Cause my ends would always feel rougher than rest of my hair. Like the rest of my hair would look amd feel moisturize but my ends. And i know i moisturize and seal that part too.
Not to mention that your hair will continue to split.
@@candacebeater8203 as it continues to grow.
I used to hate when my beautician trimmed my hair after growing it out for months at a time but realized how much healthier my hair is with trimming its easier for it to grow and manage the hair.
Check out Indigenous Strandz. She's a thigh length, high porosity, 4b natural non-trimmer. 22nd Century Natural Woman is another one with super long hair who doesn't trim. Bottom line know your hair. Long length can be obtained either way. Don't just trim because everyone else is. Like GB, do your own experiment.
Indigenous Strandz immediately came to mind after I watched this video 😄. Perhaps it has to do with how much care she shows her ends. From some comments I've read on different videos, I lot of people aren't willing to put in that kind of work on their hair.
I think some ppl's hair just has more tolerance than others (whether genetics, hair care regimen, or styling techniques aid in it). I don't trim as often as I should/could, but I still retain length. Mind you, I do get tangles & breakage, but not enough to fully counteract growth. My hair is 4abc/waistlength-tailbone & I keep it twisted most of the time with mini-seasons of WNGs. Would it be healthier with regular trims? Probably. But I'm a lazy natural & just not that committed (yet).
Yes you said a mouthful!! I retain more and have healthy ends with less trimming
It depends on the hair but MOST should trim. That strandz lady must just have knot-resistant hair. There is a Jamaican "natural" (she dyed her nat. hair) whose hair, though 4c, doesn't really curl on itself. It's coarse, it's curly but it lays kinda flat. That's unusual. Maybe those other ladies have "different" hair. My 4c and my daughter's 4b must be trimmed. Ymmv, i guess.
Remember Indigenous Strantz puts Flaxseed on her ends to keep the knots at bay. 22nd Century uses the search and destroy method. I keep sheers in all my styling areas and will everyday pamper my ends using multiple methods. Green Beauty is in my top three.
I used to wait like 6 months to trim my hair . I had a lot of knotting. Now I shorten the time to evey four months. Less tangled .
6 months is wishful thinking! 4 months is the max i can go without one.
@@thefactsaccordingtogabbie149me too
I just trim my hair whenever I feel like it.
how long is your hair?
I might do it every month or two months
Am I the only one who leaves the chair pissed off after noticing the stylist cut of TOO MUCH? I know its essential but mann lol!🤣😭
*You're giving me mad hair and skin GOALS!❤*
Thanks girl ... and you are not the only one. That's why I do it myself
She is the perfect example of beauty and brains.
Exactly, my stylist has always dusted / tipped my ends that's what he calls it. Every four months four and a half months I will trim 1/4 no more than 1/2 of an inch. My ends are really good though. My end never really "need" it we just stay on the schedule.
Kiki's Kurls, yes, that is why I don't allow professionals to trim my hair, I do it myself.
A stylist butchered my hair. Never again will I let anyone cut it like that
Another great video!!! Yes, I have noticed that when I do not trim my ends, I definitely have more knots. Trims are, indeed, important!
I wasn’t trimming mine regularly and my hair started shedding like crazy! I found a natural hair stylist and she gave me a bomb trim. I lost a lot of length and density due to not trimming. Now I’ll be letting her handle it for me every 3 months. My hair was tangling at the ends just like you showed.
Do you mean your hair was breaking like crazy?
Commenter Number One The thing is it looked like shedding because the pieces were so long. I think the split it went all the way up my hair shaft. Most likely it was breaking but from high up.
@@Tabaitha_Elle how is your hair now? Are you seeing new growth?
😰😰😰I’ve never trim my lengs
That’s can’t be the reason. Your hair cannot shed due to a lack of trimming.
Some people do, some people don't. Depends on how well you preserve your hair. One RUclipsr with natural 4b hair doesn't trim, yet has past thigh-length hair.
Who?
@@chalseywilder937 Indiginous Strandz. She uses very little products and keeps her hair in long twists. She uses Castor oil and flaxseed gel to seal the ends and preserve them.
@@Zizzyyzz oh okay. I follow her already. Not sure what her hair type is.
You're right. She also doesn't use commercial shampoo and conditioner which I am starting to think cause more damage causing us to need those trims. Come to think of it 22nd Century Natural Woman doesn't use commercial hair products either. Her hair is also super long and healthy and she doesn't trim. Both ladies use COMPLETELY natural hair care. There must be something to that. I myself am experimenting with that.
@@cfoster6804 Yup!
This is amazing. I thought I was dusting but I’m really trimming lol every 3 months. I trim probably half an inch off and I’m not sure of results yet but my ends look healthier.
I see green beauty, I click! Don’t care what it’ is about, I know I will learn something! Love you. And thanks for the all the information you provide
Wow you really do love us. Thank you for this!!!
What a sweet comment!
Right. She sacrificed her hair for total strangers to be educated. Lol
By far, you are the oooooonly natural hair expert that I trust. Not only do I appreciate how you get right to the point, but you elaborate on the chemistry and from documented evidence! You’ve helped me in so many ways battling with alopecia! I appreciate you, girl!!!! Congrats on the baby!!! 💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿💃🏿
Nice to know the difference between dusting and trimming! I dust as needed each wash day (once a week) and rarely trim. I used to trim once a year and my hair is certainly healthier now.
I trim once or twice a year! This is because I only trim when my hair needs it
These 4c close ups are sooooo beautiful to see.
I'm going through all of your old videos to learn and/or remind myself of all the basics to hair care!!! Your videos are great!!! Thanks!!👏🏿❤️🥳
this is what happened in my hair journey and i always blamed my hair, i reached mid back length but with tons of breakage and ssks at the ends and i got so frustrated i cut off my hair, as i was cutting my hair i noticed how freely my hands could run through my hair and then it all hit me: i hadn’t been trimming at all since my transitioning phase, so yeah i cut of my hair and i have a twa now and i’ll remember to trim because it’s so important. im not gonna do a specific trimming schedule , i’ll just trim it whenever my hair shows any signs (difficulty detangling my ends, ends getting snagged in combs, fairy knots, etc etc) and now im gonna retain my length and im sure my hair will get back to mbl in 2 years if i stay consistent. im gonna keep my hair in a protective style and smother hair grease on my ends to preserve and nourish them!
i just trimmed my hair yesterday after two years lmao, had to cut off 6cm which is sad but my hair feels so much healtier and looks waayy better
Wooow!! When I saw the hair I said to myself that’s beautiful hair and it’s so thick,... and thn I saw the face of the woman attached to it...blown away! You are gorgeous!!🔥🔥🔥👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾😍😍
I'm in there about every 6 weeks and take off only the stragglies and the SSKs (1/8th in.). This stops my hair from fighting itself and damaging itself. It retains length. I'm about 1 inch from waist length.
ShaunieBNaturalista I feel like I’m forever three inches from waist length
@@ilovesesshomarusama716 I hear you. That is about hair care. Whatever you're doing is good enough to get you to 3 inches from WL. I was there in the spring of this year and started using henna and leaving my hair in twists for 4 to 5 days at a time. It made a huge difference and I've retained inches since then. You need to change something.
Our hair grows like our nails. If you want long nails you have to file and clip as needed. Great video!
That's such an interesting way to look at it🤔😮 Never thought of that before; very insightful
What a treat to see you on here with your hair styled‼️ I get lazy with trims and end up having to do more even though I know I should trim every 3/4 months too.
I actually need one now and was contemplating just oiling my ends and keep it pushing. But to reach my hair goals I know I must do better.
Your 💁🏽♀️is beautiful. It's a true reflection of your inner beauty.Love💕 watching your videos, they are knowledgeable and informative, makes you want to keep a healthy hair regime. Taking time out to help others achieve healthy hair is a blessing.🙏🏽Great job sis😍😍
Thank you sis 💚
Great tips. I’m a believer in trimming and have no fear of scissors. As you said in a previous video, hair grows from our roots. I spent all of 2017 rocking a tapered fro and guess what, my hair still grew. 😆
That's exactly what happened to me last week. The last I trimmed my my hair was in April. I usually trim in December and April and dust my ends once every 6-8 weeks. Once I realize my flat twist-out was getting tangles as I'm taking it down I knew I needed a good trim.
I search n cut the hairs I see in the front. I trim the back and crown. I do this about every 60-90 days when my ends start to feel really weathered and crispy. Great video! Thanks for being our guinea pig!
Did the same experiment myself for 6 months...the knots were something else! Keeping to 4 or 5 months between trims from now on.
Amen! Not to mention all the time you save on detangling and amount of product you keep. People don't understand why their detanlging sessions are so brutal and time consuming meanwhile they haven't trimmed in a year. Never gonna make that mistake again! Split ends also messe with your definition and moisture retention.
Check these RUclipsrs/stories too; these are the people that do not put scissors to their hair or they stopped because they no longer need to i.e. indigenous strandz hasn't trimmed in about 7 years or so.
List of non-trimmers:
Indigenous strandz
22 century natural woman
Basara arabs (Chad Africa)
Mbalantu (Namibia Africa)
Yao women (China)
Myself included unless I find a knot that I can't get out (rare); there may be more but I can only think of these right now.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE HER VIDEOS!!!! They always give me EXACTLY what I need. Facts, based on science and experience! LOOOOVVVVEEEEE IIIIITTTT!!!!
My favorite hair channel 💚
“Hell to the yes” lol
I used to trim a lot and it stayed the same length. Then I started trimming once or twice a year and my hair grew super long... I'm not scissor happy at all.
I trimmed my 4c hair by 2 strand twisting and then trimming the raggedy ends. My Afro today is BUSSIN’!
Nice 🙌🏾
This is so on time. I LITERALLY told myself today I was going for a professional trim. I started trimming my hair myself since going natural, but it's hard for me to tell at times what needs trimmed. I realized I wasn't moisturizing like I should, so my hair could be super dry...working on that. But hopefully this professional trim will get me back on track! Thank you for posting!! 🤗
Always look forward to your videos. Your hair looks amazingly healthy. So pretty. Stay blessed 😘...xx
I have to relearn again when it comes to hair. I've totally fallen off the track. My hair is a hot mess, but I love it! :0)
I need to do trims more often.. and set an actual schedule. I'm blow drying my hair soon so I'll take advantage of that. ALSO thanks for saying that "all" knots can't be eliminated and only maintained instead...bc I mentally go crazy feeling for these strands and feeling guilty for not finding them all ESPECIALLY from the middle of my hair to the back.
RUclips recommended your video to me today via email. I’m so happy I found you, cause I only watch videos of natural hair researchers rather than product influencers. God bless you. Trims work, Period!
Thank you for sacrificing your ends to teach us. Much respect 💕
I dont trim mine for religious reasons. But your hair is absolutely beautiful! Another amazing video.
In box braids I like to not split in to sections when beginning a braid. I like using the two synthetic pieces and my natural hair as the third (middle) to braid. that way I don’t have much detangling to do after a take down. I like to go back after a month and take my hair out one by one and cut off anything that is supposed to be there like you mentioned, fairy knots. Spilt ends also then I rebrand each strand while adding liquid oil and some smell good. The next go round of braids I notice a huge difference in my hair. Less build up and fizz and breakage. I still follow my loc method in braids too. This helped my hair grow out longer than I have ever seen in my lifetime.
Thanks for the insight. I trim my hair but I'm not consistent. Therefore, I have a lot of single strand knots😢...I'm going to get better and find a routine that works for me. I enjoy your videos☺
Have you seen indigenous strandz and 22 century woman's RUclips videos they have minimalistic approaches to hair care and they haven't trimmed their hair in years (thigh length hair too). Tweak it as needed to your lifestyle
@@kenesa I haven't seen their videos. I will check them out. Thanks
Thank you, I trim my hair every three to four months also.
Omg yes ! Your hair is on point and look how healthy and long your nails are!
I love doing my friends' hair. And your videos help me get better and better. I'm happy, my friends are happy. Honestly, thank you so much for your help.🥰
Wow this video is amazing because I didint know if my stylist cut my hair too short I think she may of gotten a little scissor happy but it’s good for the long-term process of my hair and I’m in it for the longrun
That’s exactly why I cut my own hair. A hair cut is not a bad thing, it’s just better when you keep control of it.
I trimmed my hair twice this year and it's actually growing and not breaking. Last year I might have retained an inch of growth. This year at least 2 inches. And the year is not done. So I am going to trim one or two more times.
Can you do a video on expiration dates for products? I'm not sure how it works bc they say the product shelf life is like half a year but it could have been sitting in the store for half that long.
And in some african shops..for years ..in heat and very poor conditions
That's a good one! I literally thought about that before. Especially when i go into these beauty supply stores. I seen a grease at one store that's by white roses called pure petroleum..... It normally a clean clear like color and textures but at this supply store it was yellow😬 it been there too fucking long that lady she been ashame of herself. I dont go to that supply store to buy hair product ONLY crochet hair.
I would say it depends on which products you're buying as in the company. Are they all natural and I mean really all natural like I make mine in the kitchen or we make it in the warehouse in the kitchen type environment that kind of natural? Or you buying conventional products like shea moisture, I don't know a lot of the Brand's going to use them as I am, Camille Rose, mielle ect.. Companies have to give up shelf life in most times I do see 12 months or 18 months. I know some of the conventional product last longer than that maybe a year over and I know people who use it longer than that. Your best bet if you're buying those kind of product is to smell, and look at the texture and consistency of the product before you use it. If it's smelling different, looking as though it's breaking down in the consistency is different then you might want to consider repurchasing. You can tell when it's starting to really break down. If you're buying more natural organic I mean real products that are handmade then if we're not using any preservatives then we tend to stick to the shelf life most of in most cases 6 months to a year. I do have some that have lasted the year and a half. There's some things that make leave-in conditioners some other products and they made last 3 weeks to 3 months. I hope this helps? I know it's long you have any other questions, I don't mind answering.
So true!
I brought a product before from a hair store and when i got home and opened it there was mold sitting ontop of the product🤢🤢
@@iza595 Right! I've seen that.
THIS is so helpful!!!!! Finally a real video with a girl whose hair I can relate to! 🙏🏽 thank you!!!!!!
I love watching such a scientifically informative video from somebody with proven results. Great video!
absolutely true, trim those ends, or they will split all the way up the shaft of the hair and A head full of split ends looks horrible.Love this channel ❤️
My lifesaver you are, just after JESUS. I trim my hair 2to three times in the year. My hair is not long, so every trim is a 😭😭😭, but i keep on it, and i am experiencing volume. So you just give me much courage. To keep on even when i see my hair getting smaller.
Thank you SO much, you're a gem to the natural hair society!!! So glad you mentioned your IG, I have been missing these tips!

I cut mines every 6months. Works perfectly for me👍.
I trim my tresses 3 to 4 times a year.
same, single strand knots are a nightmare
Love your videos. You’re a straight shooter and not always trying to sell me something but I honestly come to your videos to LEARN about my hair. Thanks for sharing 💕
Woah that's a lot of hair you're trimming, some of it looks healthy too
Thanks for sharing am going to try out trim maybe once in 6 months and dust every month. I use to be afraid of trimming my hair because I feel is making my hair shorter. God bless you
I'm going to start trimming my ends now. Thanks for the video. Also, you're very pretty.
I haven't even watched the video but the answer is YES!! I used to have bra strap length hair. I quit getting trims bc hairstylists would charge an extra $50+ dollars for them, and overall I had trauma from hairstylists so I stopped going to salons. It's now just a little past my shoulders. I'm still cutting off inches of hair bc the split ends traveled up the shaft, honestly have just considered big chopping
Great video. Will you do a video on the best scissors to trim natural with?
I am a guy I trim my end one time a year and just keep hair in protect style and my hair is to my shoulder next year my back
Thanks girl just trimmed my hair !
I used to dust my ends every two weeks and boy did my ends look thick and healthy! I'm going to start this again once I get my haircut nice and even.

And to think I was almost doubting if I should trim when the year runs out 🤦🏾♀️
😄😄
Yesss I been enjoying more videos from you. Thanks for the update on your hair. I think my biggest concern with triming is feeling like I cut to less or to much. Twisting n trimming the ends work for me.
Come through wit da truth boo 👏🏾 One of the best, we’ll explained videos on this topic!
This video was right on time because I was just thinking if I need to trim my ends or not...you rock
For some guys they same trimming is not a must some say you should. It varies with how much you interfere with your hair over time. The more you do it the more you don't the less your ends will get damaged.Am just out of a three month session of not releasing my hair and my enda are so healthy than last year when i wore my hair out continuously. However i need to do a duating by the end of this month.Everyone should just learn their own hair.
Hello. Can you do a video on how to protect your ends to avoid split ends? I just finished trimming my hair and want to protect it the right way.
I respect your trying a theory to show the end result good or bad.

I'm terrible with keeping up with trims. I'm not opposed to getting them I just don't think about it unless I'm blowing out my hair. I do it about twice a year.
Thanks for experimenting on your hair to show the importance of trimming one's ends. By the way, your hair is beautiful!
The timing is perfect. I’ve been thinking about going natural. Your videos are really helping me. Thank you!
If your hair is already healthy and you take good care of your hair trims is not necessary. Once a year is fine. Also a key is keeping your hair up
Thank you so much 😊 this question has been at the back of my mind for a while now thanks for answering it!
You have my name lmao

I just overtrimmed going crazy seeking out every knot and split. Smh. I know with curly hair, it is inevitable to have some knots so I'll stay on top of them like you do 💓
I was just thinking I sure could use another video from green beauty and then u posted yesssssss ! Now should I look for weekly post that would be so great
I feel it depends on the person. We don't know what you've been doing to your hair on a daily basis. Less abuse on ends means less trims
curlslegit baby you’re right and I am trying to find an alternative. I have slow growth. I did a year test on my hair where I bleached several strands of hair. At the end of the year I had my stylist measure roots to the where the bleach hair started she said I had about 3” to 3.5” of roots. I wanted to cry since the stylist usually cut about 1inch of hair each time, and that means if I trim my 3 times a year like in the video I see no new length. Now I am looking for alternative methods. *sigh*

NOT trimming my ends cost me to go from APL to shoulder length. Due to fucked up rough ends. Because i didn't get no trim damn near a whole year. Now I simply get a trim every 4 months. I'm due for one end of the month matter of fact.

Best believed I screamed when you said you went 8 months without triming your hair 💀l can't even go a month, that's how difficult my hair is, or I just low key enjoy cutting my ends 🌝
I dust constantly and it doesn't affect my length retention. Its still getting longer (MBL currently) It also looks better when I wear my hair out cause I don't have straggly ends. My hair stays moisturized longer but I also keep it in twists as my daily style and rarely wear it out. My wash day is easier because I have fewer knots and tangles.

You have such beautiful hair!
Thank you ☺️
Your hair is beautiful!!!

Your hair is so thick and lovely.

I haven't trimmed my hair in 4 yrs, since my Big Chop. When blown out, the back of my hair is just past bra/ mid back length , & the front is at collarbone length. I usually wear two strands twist for 3 months, then twist out for 3wks or till next washing. I may do a blow out/flat iron in the fall for like a month, but it took me 2yrs b4 I put heat in my heat. My hair "trims itself?" in a wide V shape in the back....Anyway, I did a blow out/flat iron about a month ago & was thinking to trim my ends for a more polished look. Thanx for video.
I would seal the ends with a water based gel to prevent matting and would not twist all the way to the end, and would get a trichoscope to see where the split ends are then cut.
Very very helpful!! especially all the tips on knots
