I really enjoy the idea of theming songs after characters, but what is most interesting to me about this is that I personally don't catch those intentions - I see where you've glammed it up, and I think it's really good work, but I don't think of Sylvain's advances hearing this. I picture a warm day by the fireplace, snow falling outside, friends and family near...perhaps, just like his true desires, your thoughts of the person he was underneath and the person he wanted to be by the end of the game unintentionally came through stronger? Either way, it's a really beautiful rendition. Great work!!!! :D

I think...even up to the time I posted this (five minutes ago lol) I was still feeling a lot of critical self-doubt about this arrangement. Being classically trained, what is generally considered appropriate freedom of expression is entrenched in a thorough understanding of the piece and many hours of living with it, so it becomes your own, but still very much true to the composer's intentions in writing it and markings and so on. Not having this structure in place as I was doing this, I could feel every teacher I ever had frowning upon me in my mind's eye AHAHAHA. So in describing what I was trying to do, I defaulted to being self-deprecating because some part of me believes this was just over the top and tasteless, which I also struggled with in justifying my original intent was inspired by Sylvain's character, and like every other Sylvain stan I know lol his exterior asshole personality at the beginning is absolutely NOT who he is inside. So i can't tell you how much it means to me that you heard exactly what I felt in my playing, not what I wrote in words. THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH.
@@purpleschala I think what you describe is one of the things that turned a lot of young people off from the classical music world. But the realization there are now a whole lot of people who did not originate in that kind of restricted music world and don't care about these considerations anymore basically give people the confidence to do whatever they want. But yeah once you have that kind of restrictive mindset internalized at any point in your life, it's hard to get rid of it.
Every time I hear this piece I'm reminded of the happiness that the war is finally over. I just finished playing through my second story, and hearing this again is so relaxing and so rewarding. Those first two measures especially

I love how a relaxing song where we have tea time becomes such a romantic and soothing marriage song (with the main fire emblem theme snuck in there of course)

The fact that its themed around Sylvain makes it all the better, it really sings through to his “gentle and devoted husband” thing, where he breaks the cycle of his past but still has those little flamboyant flourishes that makes Sylvain Sylvain. Ahhhhh I love this. Sylvain is one of my favorites for sure. I disliked him thinking he was a sexist pig, but he really grew on me over time.
