@@DarkYuan Hahahaha it's been nice seeing so many fellow FFT fans come out of the woodwork and reminisce on this amazing game and OST together, it's the best thing I could ask for.
I listen to this song very often... btw I was surprised that you recognized me, thank you very much for your kind words when you answer me, I really appreciate it! ❤❤❤
This was amazing. Beautiful and soulful. I love this scene especially on the War of the Lions version. I love Medic's voice actor's performance One of the best video game voice acting monologue performances ever, to me, is the scene with the music swelling and he tells her how he will make her a new world. And he frigging DOES IT. Though you do make a good point as to what the full realization is of Ovelia's later on. I forgot that's where she realizes everything. Sometimes lost track of what she didn't know. But 'mazin.
"Believe what you like, child. It is of little enough consequence. You may be born a butcher's daughter for all it concerns us. We hold a trump card in our hands. The stock from which it was cut matters not." Ovelia, as explained by Vormav. What I really like about that dialogue is that it exposes clearly that which makes the core of the plot of FFT - The manipulation of truth by those in power to advance their goals. And not only Ovelia as a character embodies this, but both her themes when looked at as a whole paint this picture. If your version of "Ovelia's Theme" hinted to me the peaceful and uneventful life of a princess living a sheltered life behind monastery walls, with the more grandiose sections pointing towards what seemed to be her eventual rise to the seat of power, your version of "Ovelia's Worries" shows the other facet of Ovelia - the sadness and desperation of someone whose fate was always decided by those bidding for power behind the scenes. And oh boy, you didn't disappoint with this performance - kudos to Mr. Ormond for the arrangement as well. This version transmits all the melancholy that I would expect, with transitions that are appropriate for the character and everything she went through, outlining her journey perfectly. The Hero Theme being quoted at the 1:52 mark is incredibly suitable, considering the pivotal role Ramza plays during Ovelia's journey from when he rescues her at Zirekile falls to the moment when they part ways at Lionel. Then the abrupt transition in 3:27, when an agitated piece that almost delves into anger abruptly turns into sadness and acceptance - that describes to me the whole event of when Vormav exposes the truth about Ovelia better than I could do with words. Also the ending. God, the ending. I love how to my untrained ears it seems to mirror what you did at the end of Delita's Theme, and nothing could be more appropriate to end this. Both their theme songs and their lives were irrevocably intertwined. It's impossible to look at one and ignore the other. There was really no other way for the game to end, and no other way to finish your piece here. You got just too good at this. Keep up your excellent work.
that's a lot of words for a compliment XD but oh well, everybody has their own version of how they like to describe things. I agree tho.. with lot less words but i agree ^^
oooh great comment. It still boggles my mind one youtube reviewer was doing an hour long FFT video and extolling how good the game is but then in the middle of it when talking about the soundtrack they just said 'the music was ok, just not very memorable and that's all I have to say on it' I could have slapped him across the face honestly. FFT OST is one of the top 5 video game OSTs of all time
Your investment in the story and characters show through so well in your performances. I am so grateful that you have been performing and arranging these pieces. Awesome as always and thank you!
Ahh Ovelia... I remember leveling up Gafgarion to 99 and turning him to a ninja so i can Catch all the end game goodies in Chapter 2 but he threw an Excalibur on Ovelia's face so i had to restart again.
I appreciate your performance on this track. I listen to it all the time and just makes me want to play the game again. The music is so well done, and this arrangement is perfect. Thank you
aw thank you so much!!! Casey most definitely killed it on this arrangement, I wish I had come up with it myself lol--it's so unbelievably gorgeous and well-suited to Ovelia.
I've always loved this theme, as it is filled with such sorrow. What a fascinating character, Ovelia - imprisoned by her lineage and station to a life of isolation, she takes control of it by choosing to believe that enduring the pain of such a life provides her strength and prepares her for a reign as empress. When she discovers that she is not royalty, but in fact a commoner, her whole life is revealed to be a lie, a fabrication created to serve those manipulating her for gain. Her pain is rendered meaningless, her emotions stranded... The anguish in her themes is palpable. Again, this commoner thanks you for these performances, they are filled with much emotion, and you do them justice. I imagine you must receive so many requests, however I would love to hear a performance of Joshua's theme from Vagrant Story from you at some point, as it is another of my favourites. "Hardin: ...I had a brother, half my age. He was gravely ill, and we knew not when he would leave us. I wanted money...I wanted my freedom. I sold my friend, my brother... But they did not set me free."
AAAAAAAHHHH I LOVE LOVE LOVE VAGRANT STORY AND FLAIL EVERY TIME SOMEONE MENTIONS IT so I absolutely MUST link you to this incredible album: open.spotify.com/album/6qhay9kb5dbrtmZqCebwzb?si=w_BP0JvhSY-9kxGy4YbwcA. Basically the Vagrant Story Piano Collections and they are SPECTACULAR. Joshua's Theme is in there near the end. I really couldn't do any better than this, but I may do a few VS covers down the road because I just love that game and OST so much. Thank you so much for the kind words and loved reading your musings on Ovelia, i think she resonates with so many of us because she really could have been just ANYONE, her only value was the role she played in these political machinations, and she knew that, and hated it.
HAve you ever considered doing a mash up video? All the best parts of Trisection, Battle on the Bridge, Delitas theme, etc? That would be epic, great work.

Man i am mad i am finding this so late. If they ever remake this game they shoukd definitely consider talking to you. Brought to tears by how well this is done Are you a fan if the 13 series? Got a ton of vibes from it(but maybe because 13 has a ton of piano)
I love this theme, I love this rendition of it, I love the narrative that it contextualizes and is contextualized it. What more can I say? Lots. What more should I say? I don't know. What more will I say? Of the media that I've experienced, Final Fantasy Tactics is perhaps the one that most expertly explores power dynamics and the ways power is maintained and grown by those who have it and those who obtain it, and how it corrupts all of them. Ovelia's narrative is that of a pawn disguised as a princess: Her power is exaggerated to legitimize those that hold her captive and diminished by those that don't, and is basically zero in actuality as she is too important to be left to make her own decisions. To paraphrase a different song, despite all her rage, she is still just a rat in a cage. And this combined anger and sadness resonates deeply within me. And, I am fairly confident, with not just me. And while Ovelia herself was "only" able to influence a few people who eventually did extraordinary things and also she stabbed the king that one time, I suspect that if enough people start rattling their cages, we may be able to accomplish something a bit more substantial. And I hope that however that plays out, we have learned something, and are not tempted by Lucavi, the power over others, and that we can instead build an equitable society where nobody is a pawn to the ambitions of another. But then, maybe I'm just reaching for the stars.
This was a really wonderful and insightful comment to read, and why I love being a part of the FFT fandom, and as a diehard Pumpkins fan I love that you quoted Bullet with Butterfly Wings as well lol, it is very apt here. The game is so deeply layered with so many complex themes and the morally gray Delita, there's just so much to unpack, and Sakimoto and Iwata's music serves to highlight those themes and characters so well. Thank you for this!
You are brilliant! You always happen to cover the games I love too and that isn't a coincidence. You have great taste. Thank you for all the joy you bring into my life! Please keep up the great work!
Very well done! I don't recall this theme offhand, but I recognized some of the other themes that it references which is always a cool touch when games do that. I guess I need to listen through the OST again, haha! Excellent job!
haha thank you so much!!! And yes, this only played once, during that one cutscene so it's not one many people remember offhand. Also one of several versions of Ovelia throughout the game so it's kind of hard to remember which played when hahaha.
@@purpleschala Small correction: This song plays twice, I believe; it also plays when Delita first wins Ovelia to his side by telling Ovelia that he will build a kingdom worthy of her name, shown here: ruclips.net/video/movxZwXMbjU/видео.html

Like, the conflicted strain with Ovelia as she learned more and more about Delita's goals. It's totally addicting, like a soft tension, I think. I want to move on, but I keep coming back and just feel oddly comforting and content about it. And here we are at my most favorite theme in the game (withholding Antidote and a Chapel). I love emotional pieces, and something I cherish a lot in this world is just having a good cry. I listen to a lot of music that I 'consider' sad or emotional in order to reflect or refresh. It brings me back to a very chill place in the moment and helps me relax. But as I grew up and played FFT again, understanding the song and how it pairs with Ovelia and her predicament, I tear up as soon as I hear the chamber bells. Emotions with music are super powerful, dood.

@@purpleschala I MEAN I'M NOT GOING TO SIT HERE AND TRY TO STOP YOU SOOOOoo 🤷🏼♂️ "OH NO, PLEASE DON'T DO THAT, WHAT A TERRIBLE IDEA" ...said nobody EVER. 🤣🤣🤣
I'm right there with you though, FFT (and Xenogesrs) was a core part of my childhood and was a driving force in steering me towards the things I love nowadays. The OST, especially. That's one of many reasons why I love what you do ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Sounds fantastic PS !!!!, Thanks for sharing my friend... jeff
thanks Jeff!
Too good. Thank you for making these videos. You are truly talented.
thank you so much for the kind words, I'm so happy you like them! FFT is a masterpiece and one of my favorite games and OSTs ever and it's nice to meet other people who think so too.

@@purpleschala oh i didn't know that! But I really love your play :) Just amazing. They are sooooo touching and gooooood. Best gift for those who loved this game.
ahhhhhhh... its so beautiful! makes me want to play fft again.
aww thank you!!! I'm due for my annual FFT run myself hahaha
Oh my...
Never ever missed a chance to listen Ovelia's Worries v1 while lurking on youtube, and now this!
It is kinda interesting to watch how your style changed over time with this one, from tragic "crying out loud" to accurately speaking out her feelings.
Brilliant work! Thank you!
omg thank you so, so much!!! haha so interesting you noted the change in my interpretation of this piece, I'm very glad my intentions were communicated clearly with this version, I really did want to highlight another dimension of her story this time. Thank you so much for noticing that!!!
Ahhhh!!! This is so good! Instant goosebumps at the opening arpeggios. Those... dissonant chords punctuating the middle of the melody lines that slide into the more expected harmony. The emotional dynamics of each phrase. I just... wow. I have no words. I'll just listen again a few more times.
OMG Scott you're too kind, thank you so much!!!! So much of this is due to Casey's brilliant writing, he just makes it such a pleasure to bask in these wonderful harmonies!!! Will you ever do any FFT covers on guitar? =) Happy new year to you!
@@purpleschala I have one! [ ruclips.net/video/FYo0pvpbfOw/видео.html ], though there are a few things about that video I wish I would have done differently. I do want to arrange more FFT tunes for guitar, but haven't come up with anything I like yet...
@@ScottPenick oh wow! gonna check it out now!
Yeah, that's a great backing track to this melancholy mood.

Perfect as usual ♥
