I love ovelia and i love her theme. I think she is one of the only if not only character in a video game with such a pitiful and dramatic story. She got captured and manipulated multiple times. She tries to understand her situation and give her life a meaning but in the end she got nothing and had accomplished nothing in her life. She is just an innocent girl in a time of war. I Think this track is a good represention of all her change of feelings during the game. Her innocence at the priory, her happiness with Delita, her sadness when she saw the harshness of war and finally her hatred of delita because of his treason.
dude that is literally the most beautiful summary of Ovelia's plight in FFT and seriously why she is one of my favorite characters ever, and why this track is one of my favorites. Thank you for this!
What's make her even more beautiful as a video game character is that she can only shine in a tactical RPG format. Because both her persistent indecisions and her dramatic role as a pawn can only have a good representation in a setting that allows huge timelapse and a complex world building.
oh man, Jeff's cover for the Zodiac album was truly exemplary. I was on that project as well and when the raw mix was posted in the group we were all like, ok, why should we even submit our arrangements lmao, it was SO GOOD. Even Matsuno himself retweeted it!!!!
"And just what is it you plan to do to them?" "I will burn down this kingdom, and from its ashes build for you a new one. A kingdom worthy of you! I will show you a world where your light will out shine the sun! A world that will know no darkness! And you will have no more need of tears." "Such a world, is it possible?" "I will not fail you in this. On Tietra's soul, I swear it to you... Dry your tears...."
So lovely... full of feeling. The comment with Ovelia's plot summarized made me so teary when hearing it to this soundtrack omg. Ovelia deserved better....
Another fantastic rendition! I still always listen to your new uploads and your old ones regularly and they inspire me to better my own musical pursuits. Thank you for continuing to upload and play music so beautifully. Your playing is truly a gift to music.
I will never get bored listening to this brilliantly written melancholic piece of art, perfectly performed by you, its amazing how few people have discovered your channel, truely a hidden gem!
Always interesting and enjoyable to hear how different musicians interpret the same arrangements. Thank you for providing your own awesome, skillful style to this beautiful piece. I recently discovered your works and others like you, and I'm thoroughly enjoying all of this amazing talent.
Amazing! It is really something! I have been loving this song since I heard in the video game. Ovelia's state of mind is colourfully arranged, and sympathetically animated by this play. Really love this clip!
I thought I would only be lucky enough to have heard ONE FFT cover from you but you covered so many songs. Your playing both in tech our and heart is breathtaking. Thank you for these!
awwwwwwww!! thank you SO much omg, I LOVE this game and it really warms my heart to meet other people who love it too, because it is just an AMAZING game and with an amazing OST!!!! I'm going to be working on a few more FFT arrangements! =)
what a phenomenal piece, bravo to casey for the arrangement. i listened to his version, then yours. i'll refrain from comparing, but i'm sure glad you recorded this. i FEEL it. you have a way with dynamics that really brings a piece to life. you can tell that you were completely absorbed in this piece, it's not something you can fake can't wait to hear what's next
hey man!! =) sorry for not seeing this earlier! first, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR NOT COMPARING it pisses me off when people do that, within the framework of giving a compliment, so thank you for keeping it classy. I love and respect Casey's playing and arranging style so much and without him my version wouldn't even exist. Thank you as always so much for the kind words, this particular arrangement REALLY spoke to me so I'm glad it came across. =) I'm working on Antipyretic, which is kind of a doozy, so that's why it's taking a while hahaha! But it's coming!
Definitely one of the most satisfying abilities in the game! I think my first playthrough was with mostly Lancers with Punch Arts. Versatile, but not totally broken like Calculators haha. Cheers.
Another wonderful Tactics song! I just wish that the Advanced series for Tactics had the same depth of story, tone and enjoyment. Or even music this good and I would have been happier with them!
The man you're looking for is Yasumi Matsuno, director and writer of FF Tactics. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together, is considered to be more pure and a better SRPG than FF Tactics. In another vein, Ogre Battle 64 is also a very rich and deep game, but it's difficult to achieve the Chaos Frame necessary for the two best endings. Look for the games in where he is the mind behind the writing or script and not just producer, as he was in Tactics Advanced. About halfway through Ogre Battle 64 myself, got from the eshop channel on an old Wii console. Worth every penny and is causing my nostalgia cup to overfloeth.
Holy. Shit. This is giving me shivers. The melody is lovely and this arrangement is definitely eloquent. Truly, it's lovely. Reminds me that I have a way to go in terms of composing, haha. As always, beautiful playing. I love seeing your uploads, and I see what you did there with that playlist =p. Thank you for doing that, it's easily accessible for musician/pianist fans of the FFT series and helps expose these lovely pieces to them, as well as people like me who haven't played -still, lmaooooo- The improvisation section you managed was done so well, I wouldn't have thought you were improv'ing had you not said it in the description. Probably one of my favorite uploads from you.
JAIRUS IF THIS GETS YOU TO PLAYING FFT I will have fulfilled my purpose LMAO!!!! everybody needs to play it! It's so good!!! =) Thank you so much, as always, for your kind words and encouragement! And UGH it's such a good arrangement, isn't it?!?!?!?! Casey really blows me away with his mastery of piano writing and sophisticated jazz harmonies and I'm learning a lot from studying these arrangements to incorporate into my own writing ugh. And that last page is still mostly him, I just added about 30% more notes ahhahahaha!!! improvising is scary for me lol.
This is not my arrangement but Casey Ormond's, who was handpicked by Sakimoto to arrange the FF12 piano collections, and yes I agree, it is absolutely amazing!!! And Ovelia is indeed the most tragic and overlooked heroine in the FF universe!!!!
Ah, I was waiting for this one. I'm at a loss of words here, just kind of amazed how these piano versions in general, and this one in particular, get to breathe new life into these songs. This was very beautiful, and I'm grateful you took the time to play it. I listened to the original theme right after for comparison, I feel it had a much more solemn and somber tone than this version, what was more apt for the moments it played in game. However, I love when a version gets to play around with the original mood of a song while retaining the same quality. In this case, instead of it working as a lament for Ovelia's fate, it felt like Ovelia just enjoying a lonely drink in a Piano bar ;) And wow, you too think this song is the highlight of the Soundtrack? I feel almost proud of my tastes that we share the same preference. Keep up the great work. I really can't wait for the next one.
Yes, I know... Much like the Hero's Theme. But in the context of "Ovelia's Worries" specifically, that song always felt to me like a sort of lament for her fate, maybe because of the moments it is played during the game. It had a somber and solemn tone that kind of delineated well her cruel fate and misfortune. It's a recurring theme on FFT, when you think about it. Although the ending is good - Ramza beats St. Ajora and saves Ivalice - The fate of individual characters is uncertain at best or depressing at worst. But not all of them had a delightful theme songs like Ovelia to represent it so well. Deservingly so, I might add. Although she is not a playing character, I always felt she played a center point in the story. She, like Ramza, wants no part in the schemes happening around her, but unlike Ramza she never had the option to just run away from it. Oh well, I ramble too much. I can't get started in FFT.
always a delight to read your commentary, so please, ramble on hahaha!!! :D both of you actually said about the same thing in different places hahaha, about Ovelia being collateral damage, a victim and a pawn of political intrigue. I guess it's why I've always loved her, her struggle was so pure to the end. and hahahaha I LOVE your description that this is more like Ovelia at the bar drowning her sorrows LMAO!!! you definitely are right, the original track has much more gravitas. Jazz can most certainly carry the same weighty profundity (i.e. Coltrane's A Love Supreme), I'm just not well-versed enough in the genre to be able to give it anything other than the sultry lounge feel AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! If you listen to the arranger's own rendition of it, he captures the spirit of the original. But thank you so much for your kind words as always and I'm very glad you were able to enjoy it on some level. =) Antipyretic is my next one, and it's going to be a doozy lol. Looking forward to your thoughts on that one, though i may slip in some Shop or Pub in the meantime hahaha.
purpleschala Hey, nothing wrong with the "sultry lounge feel". She kind of deserved to just go to a pub somewhere, say Dorter Trade City - anonymously of course - and pour down a single malt while her theme song is played by the piano man. The dark athmosphere, the cigar smoke on the air, a night alone, away from all the schemers pawning her future for power and control. A break from all the despair, in a way. Although it is a totally different vibe, describing it kind of reminded me of an old version of A Link To The Past - Darkworld theme song. It was called Darkworld Jazz, and it is the first result when you search it on RUclips. Since you played it before, it might sparkle your interest. Oh well, I really look forward for Antipyretic. It's a kickass battle theme, and I'm curious about the Purpleschala's treatment on it. Have fun!
HAHAHA!! i love that imagery! except I don't see Ovelia as a whiskey person, even at her most despairing. maybe a glass of Chianti hahahahaha. And YES i remember that Zelda cover, it was AWESOME!!!
not sure why, but some of the shapes and figures in this pice kind of remind me of bolcom's graceful ghost rag. i've been listening to that and this repeatedly the last couple days, and it just hit me that there's some underlying similarity to me...
Oh, I forgot to ask you: do you think you could try some Lightning Returns tracks too? I'd really love to see what a talented pianist like you could do with both parts of "The Savior's Legend", it would be quite the challenge!
though I do really, really love the FF13 OSTs, I don't normally take requests, sorry! I prefer to play for myself and I'm kind of in a Sakimoto phase right now hahahaha. maybe when I get into a Hamauzu mood again I'll consider it!
Haha, it's okay, don't worry! I'm a traditional artist, and I know exactly that rule of having to be "in the mood" to do something good. I can't draw Kingdom Hearts when I'm in FF mood either! Anyway, hope you'll get the inspiration to try it someday! ;) Keep up with the great work!
purpleschala Thank you so much Schala, it means a lot coming from you! ;) We both express our love for the FF series through music for you and drawing for me^^ btw, you can call me Dagga ;)

The musical arrange jeff swingle did, is a better summary than mine ;).
What's make her even more beautiful as a video game character is that she can only shine in a tactical RPG format. Because both her persistent indecisions and her dramatic role as a pawn can only have a good representation in a setting that allows huge timelapse and a complex world building.

Kau Kolsothy I've still yet to experience a better plot
Beautiful tribute to an incredibly creative and evocative game.
Thank you for making such a beautiful rendition 😊 full of emotion and character!
nooooo thank YOU for writing such a beautiful, sophisticated arrangement and posting the sheets!!!!!!
purpleschala no I like where you went with it! Very grand 👍🏻
hahaha you're too kind, thank you!
"And just what is it you plan to do to them?"
"I will burn down this kingdom, and from its ashes build for you a new one. A kingdom worthy of you! I will show you a world where your light will out shine the sun! A world that will know no darkness! And you will have no more need of tears."

Ovelia deserved better....
Very very solid. Piano arrangements really lay the song bare, it lives or dies on the strengths of the heart of the song itself. You did a great job
ahh thank you so much, that means a lot!!! =)
Another fantastic rendition! I still always listen to your new uploads and your old ones regularly and they inspire me to better my own musical pursuits. Thank you for continuing to upload and play music so beautifully. Your playing is truly a gift to music.
Oh, and when are you going to release a Final Fantasy Tactics album!?!?!? :D
awww thank you so much Masael, you always say the kindest things!!

ahhh thank you Julio!
You are a stellar pianist who plays all the songs I love. Thank you.

EarthSlash awwww thanks so much dude! Love your profile and username, monks are my second favorite job and I spammed earth slash so much ❤️

lmao thanks man, appreciated!!

Wow, this one is so sad and so beautiful at the time! Lovely job, Schala! You really captured the essence of the original song! :)
thank you!!! =) I'm very happy to hear that, as it is one of my favorite themes!
Heart touching
Deserves more views IMO
This is an amazing arrangement for one of the most tragic characters in fiction, well done!
This is not my arrangement but Casey Ormond's, who was handpicked by Sakimoto to arrange the FF12 piano collections, and yes I agree, it is absolutely amazing!!! And Ovelia is indeed the most tragic and overlooked heroine in the FF universe!!!!
You’re actually a living goddess
Beautiful
Thank you!
pretty wonderful, great job. man I loved that game.
I wish I could like this a second time.
AHH thank you so much!!! it's such an amazing arrangement
Wow! This is just sublime!! ^_^
thank you Rebecca!!! it is a lovely arrangement, it almost plays itself!
this is really good
thank you!!! It's such a great arrangement!

Ovelia theme appears multiple time in the ost(Prologue, Battle themes etc...) and through different form.

Honestly sounds like it could've been in FF XV--wonderful arrangement and playing
Fucking epic beautiful arrangement thank you!! \m/
Casey did an amazing job on this arrangement, for sure. I didn't think this theme could get more beautiful and he proved me wrong.
Play the ending where Delita gets stabbed I think it's called prologue
U must love fft

Best game and game soundtrack ever? And do you always wear shorts? lol
i don't see what that has to do with anything.
As good as usual. But is it just me or the beginning sounds a little like Suteki Da Ne Piano Collections =)))?

Fancy meeting you here! ^_^ I just discovered her.
RebeccaETripp haha purpleschala is awesome!! And so are you!! 😁
