  • In this short review, I discuss my thoughts and how much I love this book. It really upgraded my understanding of the history of humanity in an incredibly evidenced and nuanced way.
I wrote on it here in my Substack as well: tommyt23.subst...

I almost finished reading that book, but I have to say it is really taking me to the peaks of my focus in a not so positive meaning. Maybe it’s because I am not a native English speaker and have to check a word or two on each page, but still, the sentences are really long and they don’t form a nicely flowing narration. Besides that I obviously agree that it is highly interesting and insightful, and just like you said, worth reading more than once.

Hey Artur, I totally understand your comment here. Most of Jung's and Neumann's ideas take me to the edge of my ability to understand. I think it'll take me a few readings to truly get a basic understanding of just a few deep ideas here.
It may be a necessary consequence of trying to describe that which is beyond our ability to understand or grasp.
      Thanks for watching.

I’m most interested in the latest research on our commonalities with other animals. I don’t think we are separate. You have to see this book in context, it’s from a very different Weltanschauung and time. It’s also influenced by German romanticism.

You did a great job. Superb review of a book in which almost everything is important. I bought the book on audible and used it parallel with a PDF document. I actually wanted to read The Fear of the Feminine and The Great Mother but I couldn't process it. Neumann is just “deadly”.
One of the most significant part of the book is that it kind of points a finger at you and asks “how much of our cultural canon have you integrated so far and why not.”
I see you got the paperback version. What do you think about the hardcover version? Is it worth paying more money?
    👏🙏

Thanks so much! I truly appreciate your words here.
I often get hard cover books just because it seems that they will be more sturdy, but never thought about it for this book. Although I may as it is one of my favorite and most important books I own.

Love the content brother, please keep it up! All I can recommend is getting a better mic.

Thanks so much! Yeah, I noticed about the mic. I have what I thought was a good mic but I might have to adjust some settings. Maybe something that clips on so my distance isn't constantly affecting volume levels. Not sure, but I appreciate the feedback.

Thank you for the great video! I am have been going through some of the books from Jordan Petersons "Philosophy/Literature" section on his recommended books page.
I was wondering if this is the book you would recommend to read first out of his "Clinical Psychology and Psychiatry" section or if there is another book from that section that you want to read first.
Thanks again, much love from Norway! :)

Hey Jo, thanks so much for watching and your kind words!
My favorite so far from that list was The Origins and History of Consciousness by Erich Neumann.
I've often looked at my book shelf thinking, "If I had to choose just a few books to take with me in an emergency evacuation, what books would they be?" Neumann always is at or near the top of my list. It totally changed how I viewed the world of humanity.
      Hello from Northeast Pennsylvania :)
