Something I noticed in the clip is that you were very hesitant to ask the question, so much so that you even mentioned you wouldn't dare to look behind at all the people in the back, and yet you had the courage to tell the truth and confront your fears in public. Well done my friend! That is the way to success and you took a brave step forward. Best wishes from Costa Rica to wherever you are reading this.

When the force gets too much, get out. There's no shame in it.
Now is a good time as there's plenty of other things you can do.
Your own mental health should be priority one. And it's seriously not worth the destruction that comes with hanging in there too 'not let the team down'.

He’s also saying he’s an active duty POLICE officer who just got out of a mental hospital. This person is a menace for becoming a cop w this mental instability. Every day more and more citizens are given complex ptsd FROM THE POLICE. Cops are important, but if you are mentally fragile you’re an asshole if you choose to be a cop.

Is this suggesting to read Ordinary Men. I attempted it. Ugly read that seemed to repeat the same things. I couldn't finish reading it much as I wanted to. I liken it to "Pack Mentally."
These Ordinary men did filthy violent things to people because they all did it. Whose going to stand up and say, "Stop it." Especially to the men giving the orders?

That dragon line is soo true. I had anxiety and depression problem last year and my psychologist gave me excercises at home. To bring up the things in my mind that made me sick (literally sick too my stomach) instead of avoiding them. And by doing that the anxiety and stress fades away. Avoiding the things you think will give you anxiety actually give you a lot more anxiety and stress.

I held the dead body of my best friend Tyler Nixon on May 16th of 2007 too early in life to be able to deal with it properly. He overdosed in secret right next to me and he died while we were sleeping. He didn’t mean to I am convinced. But he did. And when I found him was hours later and he was blue with bubbles coming up out of his mouth and when I grabbed him and tried to help he was long cold and even stiff. That was the beginning of many horrible events in my own life. And almost my entire family died. And as I speak this text through my fingers if not for my own children I have only my mom left. All other family members have been destroyed. All known family are gone. Except my mom who is currently in hospice and not long to go away herself. It’s GOD who saved me via His Son who just so happens to be the Core and Source of all the art and beauty in my entire life.

Whoever chose the color scheme for this speech was a genius. As an artist myself, I couldn’t take my eyes off it. The grayed whites of his suits makes his flesh look more alive by comparison, and the backlight illumination outlines him and sets him apart from the shaded red and blue in the background. It gives the impression of intelligence and clarity, all while illuminating him in white light that makes him seem all the more pure and trusting. Simply magnificent, I’m gonna have to draw or maybe even paint him.

for what it's worth, he was such a good listener in person that I still use him as a sounding board in my imagination. When I try to make sense of a new idea that is still a little beyond my grasp, I try to make my case to him (in the theatre of my imagination). It's because I know he's really listening, I know he'll consider sideways ideas, and I know he will not be easily duped. I'm not bragging or something, (it's not that easy to wired like me honestly), my point is that he's that good of a therapist in person. For what it's worth he treated my daughter who was helping me with respect and kindness, besides asking me all about myself, my art, etc. I think I'll have to write a blog post or something some day about being in his company.

I then had a dream of Jesus coming before God and he spoke of the Tabernacle in perfect context, "A word I didn't know existed.", and what I felt from Jesus when I held him was unlike anything I've ever felt before - A lifetime of Love every second - It brought me to sobbing and it changed my life, forever.
I've had other experiences since, "Several witnessed", one was seeing a bright orb of light pass across my face in the dark, hours before a major surgery the second I gave up in my heart.
Know that God and Jesus ARE real and that they Love us. Let go of your hatred and Imagine yourself holding the people who've hurt you. Tell them you Love them.

@@helentaylor1222 I’ve been watching his content from the beginning, I stumbled upon it right before he challenged the Canadian Law C16. It’s truly been a journey seeing him basically with a webcam, to now where he has such a powerful platform and guests and his new stuff on daily wire as well. Watching a blue collar type man go from that, to now being such a force… because he espouses Righteousness and The power of Aiming High along with answering really the big question for my generation and below…. If we are giving up God , then we replaced it. And all the things we replaced it with are completely hedonistic and we’re left feeling completely empty and without encouragement or direction…. Jordan peterson came along and spoke to a deep part of my generation. He doesn’t realize how even if he changed one man’s life, it would ripple and cause good. He has changed so many peoples lives and the effect is my generation finally sees purpose, and there is no amount of gold that anyone would trade for meaning and purpose. He’s such a net good. Sometimes I think he doesn’t realize it lol

Years in therapy, and the approach of all my therapists has been the opposite of what he said, and the opposite of what I asked them for in therapy. I got worse, thanks to therapy. I knew why. I knew what therapy did wrong, and how they wronged me and hurt me. In the end they judged me as hopeless case, too much damage, and telling the insurance that I was not willing to heal. Since I stopped therapy, I got much better.

@evelynmonro7342 I've learned more from Peterson's lessons than I ever learned in therapy. To be fair, I didn't go to therapy very often, but I think some of that had to do with getting very little resolution from it. Therapists seemed to be more concerned with having you tell them how you feel about things and prescribing medication to get you through the day, rather than outlining a path towards self improvement. It's as if simply talking about your problems will draw all the conclusions we need for healing, while medication reduces the anxiety stemming from them. In some sense, that is how it works, but it takes far longer to draw any sort of long-term conclusions without offering methodology guidance. Becoming more familiar with Peterson's work has allowed me to catch up on years of painful mistakes and, at the very least, begin to work my way towards overcoming their effects. If I can offer any advice, it's to educate yourself (in your case, a focus on PTSD), as gaining insight on any topic will increase the likelihood that you'll be able to process your current situation and proceed in a positive direction.

I think the gut reflex of someone dealing with trauma is to avoid anything that reminds them of it, but that only contributes to a heightened fear response. This is why voluntary exposure therapy is so useful for people with anxiety. You're gradually confronting the thing that scares you and that (hopefully) creates a desensitization effect.

Finally someone with real understanding! Every medical person treating PTSD should listen to this!
I had severe, treatment resistant, complex PTSD from a lot of stuff overseas including 2 assassination attempts. Multiple independent psychiatric assessments and full medical board said I had no hope of any meaningful recovery and I was classified as Total and Permanently Disabled.
My life now is very different but it is genuinely awesome. If you’re currently wrecked by PTSD - you have a future and it CAN be awesome too.
Dr Peterson highlighted 2 of the things that helped me. Deliberately facing things that triggered me every day - wisely! Small, gradual, deliberate, exposure to things and then reflecting a little bit on that. Being in a supermarket aisle eventually didn’t tell my brain I was back being hunted and trapped.
We’re constantly told discomfort is bad. That is the most destructive thing you can believe. Discomfort is our friend. Without discomfort we can’t grow, adapt, re-program in any way mentally or physically.
Coming to understand general malevolence / evil and de-personalising it was also huge for me.
One critical thing I would add, which Dr Peterson didn’t mention, is coming to understand my true identity and where my self worth truly comes from. Only the creator can attribute actual worth to a creation, so understanding that fundamental truth transformed me. The infinite Gd who created everything that exists out of nothing wants personal relationship with me, and you. He took on human flesh and died horrendously in my place, and yours, to allow that eternal relationship. That is what truly defines our worth. The fact that we have the free will to choose to ignore or accept that is a mind-boggling revelation about who God is.
I’ve done some self authoring in the past which was helpful but am going to buy the self authoring course he mentioned so I can work more on that aspect.

Putting things into words just wasn't an option for a long time (and trying to actually made things worse, especially since there was deep and wide ranging paranoia in the mix). Allowing myself to feel is what gradually dissolved a lot of issues (and, in my case, it's taken some mind altering substances to even be able to get past all the solid defenses). It fragmented my perceptions a long time, pointless trying to express this to a person who has narcissistic personality disorder, he had me thrown in jail repeatedly for 8 hours the maximum holding time for when pathological liars convince police you are guilty of their crimes to cover their tracks. I felt infantile and defenceless against all these authorities meant to protect victimised women and kids, social work failed to look beyond the theatre or the fact my psychologically alienated son was saying what he was terrorised to say, despite saying the opposite four times to police when interviewed with me at his original home. I fear the magnitude of soul crime will never be acknowledged. I suffer cptsd and i have drug dependency on the horror of benzodiazepines, im going through that hell while at the same time totally impossible to express any of my feelings without being shamed and blamed for"ruining the family meeting with my son and narcy in a lot of ways or should I say just completely lacking empathy other supposed family. I really don't have a family in the traditional sense, narcissists make short work of destroying every connection to the scape goat. Despite the cheating etc he was this great family guy who seems untouchable despite the obvious destruction. A dragon so fierce and malevolent it will destroy the strongest consciousness, I was hearing my name called, I had delusional and invasive thoughts, none of which I'd ever had before the cptsd or the drug dependency on benzos. I was beside myself as any mother would be being told it was 18 months before a case hearing and no access to a kidnapped child being cavorted in front of me by my supposed replacement mother, no regard for my sons feelings or mine. I lost everything. A perfect question and answer for my situation, stuck in freeze response to ambient abuse that never ends. Bullied doesn't cover it, soul murder might.

I had an 'ah ha' moment of insight as I listened to this, realising that I very regularly have dreams that involve many people from highschool. Perhaps some of my struggles are because there is a part of me who is still stuck in that age, that part of my self concept has not yet grown to where I am now
Perhaps willingly and actively looking at that part of me before bed could be a way to move through what has been stuck, rather than just experiencing the intrusive feelings, thoughts and memories of shame that plague me throughout the day
    I'm going to try it!

I have come a long way in many areas and even recently finding out I have trigger words. My recovery process is at maslow's 3rd tier. I havent found belonging. I have accepted I am a nomad. In my 2 churches that has put me in a strange place because I wont join either as a member. God has shown me that I am like Paul, I dont belong to anyone. I will be baptized and serve both. I have bonding issues and can not get over what I see in people . I see them, not just their physical presence. Maybe self authoring would help, I do own the book ordinary men, I haven't read it yet. Some people are just acting this position from a place of wounding and at some point can hopefully find healing in themselves to see the world differently. Others genuinely have a soul dark and corrupt at it's core. As Micheal Caine said in the Dark Knight, "Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned, or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn." Unfortunately true.

As much as you can, show love. Love takes care of all of these no matter how complex. No matter how good of a person you think you are, do not judge anyone. If you cannot be of help, at least keep your opinion to yourself because it does the other person no good. Keep that pride and ego of "I am better". Thank you.

Peterson’s approach to healing & growth is accurate, but also it’s important to include the kind of service and hard work that you can orient yourself toward, or aim at, that also can put the past way into the past & move you forward. In my experience, you’ve got to be slaying both the inward dragon as well as the dragons out in the world. After a while it becomes a rhythmic thing and as it changes you for the better, it changes the world around you for the better.

This is excellent advice. I strongly recommend the self authoring program, it’s not expensive and I found it extremely helpful to come to terms with a whole lot of trauma from my past. Narrating your own story gives a chance to digest it better and also identify things you missed before. I wouldn’t suggest a war veteran is “to blame” for their experiences, but it’s still helpful to think deeply about “why that happened and why it affected me so much”. Very grateful for Dr Peterson’s wisdom, the level of insight in these impromptu Q&A segments of his recent tour was astounding.

Excellent answer ! My father, that lives with us , has had agoraphobia and panic disorder for my entire life. I have been with him on many visits to the psychiatrist office as a child. Understanding for the most part the problem, but not their solution, cause non of them address the issue spirituality, but only with meds like Paxil and clozapam. They didn't display the virtuous Understanding that you have and one that he visited for 15 years eventually committed suicide himself! And that was my final proving point with my father. He now calls me first instance he feels bad. To talk. Works everytime! He still takes the meds tho.
