"Who is this device actually made for?" Gladly you finally mention it in the video. In case you didn't know - the PICO is Zotac Prototype for their Streaming-only Steam-Machine. The other Zotac Steam-Machine for native Steam gaming will be based on ZBox EN760. It's pretty safe that Zotac will offer the argueably best choices for Steam-Machines, no other manufacturer takes the topic with such a technological and strategy focus like with their ZBOXes. It's already hands down the best and most effective Mini-PC collection existing on the planet.
I love how linus is the only reviewer that I watch simply because he doesn't throw the sponsors right in our face ruining the review. He blends them in just perfectly to keep the review interesting. Small detail, but it has a big impact for me.
Its a joke guys jeez but actually apart from the gaming side its 100x better in every way yes it may not have USB 2.0 or 3.0 but its a great PC considering its size
For me a small form factor computer needs to do the following: - CPU which scores at least 2000+ in Passmark - At least 120GB Storage (SSD) - 4GB RAM - 4K Video capable - HDMI/Displayport - WIFI And most importantly.... no barebone bullshit. "Hey that looks nice and cheap! Oh.... need to add ram, storage, wifi card, etc, etc doubling the cost"
Why does it need to do that? Right now, in 2014, 4K support is basically an enthusiast thing, 4GB of RAM seem to be more than necessary, much like the 120 GB of ROM. I really believe you are completely missing the purpose of this PC. It is not supposed to substitute a compact Mini-ITX media/in-home streaming computer, it is almost a thing of its own: A mobile desktop.
SeaJay Cheapest mini-i5 costs $480 with memory and hdd but no OS. And it does not even have an SSD. If i'm not mistaken there are Android sticks out there doing 4K. My point is really that the current budget Windows pc market is pure shit. The Celerons they put in all the budget pc's and laptops don't even push close to 1000 in passmark and come with regular hdd's. Result? A CPU that can not cope with a few tabs and an hdd that can not keep up.
yes but if you watched the video, you would of saw the ( XX% Frame Loss) hovered between 15-20% so he would of been getting more than that if the hardware was capable
Minecraft depends alot on settings, It can run with low settings. But highest render settings in MC are real demanding, My old pc with i7 870 and 4gb ram couldnt handle it
I would just like to mention that alot of companies use a certain docking solutions for laptops were the employee can take the laptop home to work on it, then back to work and conect it without loosing the ability to work on a server based platform. This could work exeactly as that. Having it as a portable workstation, bring it from the office where you have a screen, home to either your private laptop or desktop, and plug in the hdmi to either laptop or screen. Tada possible usage area.
I can think of a few people who would love to have it cuz it is so cute and different. Very cool Zotac and like Linus said I am interested to see how this series progresses in the future.
the atom's graphics are equal to potato, the processor is worse then a 2011 n2600 atom, and 2GB ram? more like the laptop is over 50x more [powerful...
linus, working with your full tower gaming PC's are confusing you, this product is nothing special, there are lots of computers even smaller than that, tablets for instance are thinner, has a battery and has a screen that has full windows on it. with more flash space.
Tablets don't have 64-bit CPU except for the Surface Pro 3 which is thicker, bigger and is from a complete different class of computers, you seem to be confused ,bro.
Tablets are tablets, this is a PC. It costs about $200, and I am most assuredly going to be buying one as an emu-box - something you're not gonna do with a tablet.
It can also be used as a pc for in classrooms wherein the students only work on the net or with word... So i think I'm going to suggest the product at my school.
I say they're not that far off when using business people in their marketing. There's a projector and maybe a presentation remote in pretty much every meeting room and auditorium ever. Can you imagine only having to bring that PC and power adapter? And there's a screen, keyboard and mouse at pretty much every office desk. Oh and the other benefits mentioned in the video and the comments are added benefits on top of that. Not something I'd consider for myself though.
Do you think you guys could put links to videos you talk about in the descriptions. I usually watch these on my phone and would really like to watch these videos easily.
Nice little machine (and I am obviously a year late). About the microphone thing - most Skype users connect a Webcam with integrated microphone - problem solved. I can imagine a great use for this is hobby robotics - a perfect little "brain" for it.
I wish someone would make a PC like this where the case is shaped, keyed and holed the exact same as a 3.5" HDD. Mount 8 of them in drive sleds in an otherwise normal computer, link them up in a cluster, and host Minecraft spigot. Job done.
I could see this working quite well for Steam in home game streaming, stick it on your TV etc if you feel like playing those controller compatible games on your Tv. Wow i typed this in before I got to Linus's bit about it in the video >.>
My Asus transformer t100t also powered with same gen Atom, believe it or not, it is the same powerful as core i3 Sandy Bridge in my Fujitsu convertible, there is no lag in everyday use, and I think battery life has been amazing, outlasting my iPad4 with standby time almost 4 days and easily past 2 days with moderate use
Great video as always! Could you do more reviews of these new tiny tiny pc's? Or possibly a round up of small pc's and how effective they are for steam streaming? Keep up the good work 👍
This thing would make a great cheap little HTPC/Steambox, and if you already have a gaming PC and a decent ISP (something that has eluded me here in Australia) this could be an awesome little device since its small and silent. Just wish it had USB 3.0, its 2014, should be standard by now.
Just saw this Video and now I wanna have one of these in my garage for browsing and pdfs for tinkering with my car! Is this device powerful enough for this?
For Me the applications of this is very useful and helps me save power and ultimately my money. I use this as a torrent machine which is connected to my external hard disk, this is way more power efficient than leaving my i5 and GTX 960 on overnight also more silent.
just went to your Hulu sight link to find Hulu it's only available in USA, your Canadian right, can you use it in Canada, you might mention that in your ad, but used the link don't know if that helps you.
Would probably use it for presentations or business meetings at the client's office. Just bring one of those rollup keyboards and a tiny mouse and hook it up to their display and its good to go.
LTT can you please see if you can use this with the Aver media usb capture card to stream to twitch? That might be a thing I'd like to try but you already have all the parts and can test it!
btw, many many many companies, banks, and business use thin clients. that only run a company "software" on a browser. and only the power saved in a company would be a BIG plus to any one.
Thats what i was thinking about. Some shows on CBS, NBC, and FOX don't always show up on hulu plus through and xbox, blur-ay player etc. With this however, you could hook it up to a TV with a wireless keyboard and mouse. And have great/better way to watch netflix, hulu, youtube, etc.
I'm not sure why Linus is surprised by this. Even in Canada, Walmart sells a $149, 8" Hipstream tablet with the same processor, memory, SD, SD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, Win 8.1, one year Office 365 subscription... plus a battery and touch screen. Other than ports, and size... same thing. I would think one of these would be more handy for most people... take it with you. If you honestly need a media PC for under a TV... few homes are so limited in space that you can't just put a normal or mini-tower PC under the TV stand or in a closet.
Hey, there is a lot of pc pico nano small boxes lately, and i kinda like the, but i want to knkw if there any small, itx oriented cases, with space for really small pc's. I did built an small pc from scrap parts, in a cheap micro atx, low profile case from acteck, and i love it, i wanna build more pc's like this, even my main pc. The console looks of this small pc is awesone, and the steam in home streaming makes it better
Wonder if they could fit a 970m in there? although it would probably thermal throttle just booting up. I like the idea though, if technology could advance enough so the ac adapter could fit inside the unit and allow the power cord to wrap around like a external hard drive it would be perfect.

Linus couldn't imagine back then that that little pc would fit into a stick. An Intel Compute Stick :P Yeah, a few years and we may worry to lose our PC under the carpet.
This thing makes a good thin client I think: you can put all the computing power into a single powerful but noisy server in your garage with thick acoustic isolation (dual 18-core Xeon E5-2699v3 with 256GB RAM and three Tesla GPGPU cards and several TB of SSD in RAID maybe) slap VMware ESXi into it with vGPU turned on (this is why Tesla or Quadro cards is required) and scream multiple games by multiple users there, all while playing it on such a thin client that makes no noise and attached to a TV.
This is exactly what I need considering I move my tv and pc back and forth between rooms all the time. With this, I can leave this in my lounge to surf the net, use external usb drives etc saving me time moving my main pc around! ...now...where do I get this in NZ? lol
I must admit the concept of a cheap mini PC is interesting. I would like something like this, running silently behind the couch next to the router. No moving parts, passivly cooled. No screen attached, doing nothing but hosting my personal little whitelisted minecraft server for me and my friends. Though I doubt that little Atom Z3735F is up to the task ... maybe an Asus VivoPC with a 2955U Celeron or an MSI Wind Box with a 1037U Celeron is better suited for a behind the couch minecraftserver application.
u could use a multi-usb hook up. like a charger set up with 5-6 usb hook ups then you can have a audio jack to usb drive and hook the audio jacks into that.
Will R9 290X fit in there ?
Definitely ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
You can even shove a 295x2 in there and still have enough room for cable management.
Add custom loop water cooling for less heat buildup
u can even do sli with that r9
oh great thanks, i will order it now
"Who is this device actually made for?"

Linus' s love of this product makes me think he has never seen a Raspberry Pi or Beaglebone Black...
I love how linus is the only reviewer that I watch simply because he doesn't throw the sponsors right in our face ruining the review. He blends them in just perfectly to keep the review interesting. Small detail, but it has a big impact for me.
Annnnddd... Its still better than an Xbox One and Nintendo Switch :D
Unfortunantly nope,
not even close.....
Intel Hd Graphics? 5fps Crysis 3 at 720p
in terms of gaming, no. in terms of everything else, well, probably.
Its a joke guys jeez but actually apart from the gaming side its 100x better in every way yes it may not have USB 2.0 or 3.0 but its a great PC considering its size
WhyDoYouBother It's overused and frankly annoying.
he always asks a question he made up himself and then says good question! keep going linus love youre videos!
For me a small form factor computer needs to do the following:

- 4K Video capable
- HDMI/Displayport

And most importantly.... no barebone bullshit. "Hey that looks nice and cheap! Oh.... need to add ram, storage, wifi card, etc, etc doubling the cost"
The 4k seems very unnecessary, but other than that I totally agree!
Why does it need to do that? Right now, in 2014, 4K support is basically an enthusiast thing, 4GB of RAM seem to be more than necessary, much like the 120 GB of ROM.

...and USB 3.0
shazzzam79 USB3.0 is a $10-$20 inconvenience.
LOL!! I was legit sitting and nodding "Oh yeah that's cool linus.." at around 3:33
The framerate hovered around 57-60
"dropped too many frames"
what the hell are you talking about
yes but if you watched the video, you would of saw the ( XX% Frame Loss) hovered between 15-20% so he would of been getting more than that if the hardware was capable
This is perfect for my parents. Was thinking of a Chrome box but not now this is way better thanks so much
still faster then the school computers.......
and smaller
and cooler
My first connection with LinusTech, well done, informative, and godd presentation skills.
i want this with a gtx 980 inside,make it happen linus.lol
Duct tape is your friend
Chaz Peterson Instructions not clear, got dick stuck to ceiling fan
DeadSkillZ Darn, that joke is so old,yet you still made me chuckle
i think this will fit inside the gtx 980 instead
With huge fins on that aluminium strip, passive cooling babyyyyy
What monitor was Linus using at 0:10? I've been wanting a 21:9 monitor lately and that looks glorious!
Flat4Buggy so the one not even available in Canada yet :(
Flat4Buggy oh that's great! I was looking on amazon so I guess that's why I didn't see them
But can it run Crysis?
4K ultra settings at 120Fps
+Garfield So i cant fully stress out my 144hz Monitor ? Ok I'm out, this is garbage.
7i4nf4n Sorry man. You might have to opt for the Raspberry Pi instead if you want to do that.
Garfield You mean a potato?
Jeremy Lin The potato works but it's hard to find. You may need to go to the farmers market.
This is perfect for a server, small and very power efficient :)
Zbox no pico
lol
>w> huehue
Lmao wtf
best comment
flash backs
THIS! + a high capacity battery!(easy fittable in your backpack) and a 10 inch touch screen(for the windows 8.1 of course)! PERFECT!
If this ran mine craft it would be perfect for children
It probably does
An Atom wouldn't run Minecraft without Optifine, and even then I'm not sure it would run well.
I doubt it. The Atom isn't really all that strong. Paired with the Intel HD... It's not got the power.
Minecraft depends alot on settings, It can run with low settings.
But highest render settings in MC are real demanding, My old pc with i7 870 and 4gb ram couldnt handle it
Use optifine at lowest settingst at least 25 fps
I like the lighting in this video.
But will it blend? That is the question.
#Blendtec

Suddenly heard Boku no Pico some where in this video
I can think of a few people who would love to have it cuz it is so cute and different. Very cool Zotac and like Linus said I am interested to see how this series progresses in the future.
When a pc the size of your wallet still is better than a laptop taking up a third of your desktop.
the atom's graphics are equal to potato, the processor is worse then a 2011 n2600 atom, and 2GB ram? more like the laptop is over 50x more [powerful...
Zhao Zhao When someone doesn't understand a joke.
Mack TB when someone falls for a troll..... my pc is an calculator powered by a potato
Nice use of the filco velcro strap.
linus, working with your full tower gaming PC's are confusing you, this product is nothing special, there are lots of computers even smaller than that, tablets for instance are thinner, has a battery and has a screen that has full windows on it. with more flash space.
but tablets are much bigger than that they have more surface area than that thing.
Zantoxu That sounds like a great Idea, would save a ton of space inside an arcade-cabinet too.
Alec Day Yeah dude but its practically unusable without a monitor and a power source so tablets are better for the same use
I want this for my TV, this will be a perfect media box.
Boku no..?
No!....no! *hides and cries in the corner from those dreadful memories*
Call me a fucking weirdo but I've somewhat enjoyed it
(oshit)
...it's better than futanaris anyways >w>
I see what you did there
Pico
Technically, 'boku no' translates to 'my'. So if I'd get a pico, it would indeed be boku no pico.
Nice video again linus!
How is HTPC not mentioned once in this video?! Thumbs down. This PC is obviously the perfect cheap HTPC.
Did u watch?
+LinusTechTips YOU REPLY?!
+DuudeWhatDoesMineSay "Hi, I'm a little hipster bitch that complains about everything." I think this sentence I concocted suites you well.
+DittioTheGamer Obviously he doesn't
+LinusTechTips you*
ooh! 4k videos now! very nice, Linus. Very nice.
pico ;-; pico ;-; boku no pico ;-;
zbox no pico
It can also be used as a pc for in classrooms wherein the students only work on the net or with word...
So i think I'm going to suggest the product at my school.
4:03 I see that Intel CPU Pod thing! It's blue to the left side of the purse on the counter.
Great video! Also thanks for the 4K resolution :)
Very cool device, Zotacs small PC's are really interesting.
Is that the PC house/watercooling on the wall at 0:08?
I say they're not that far off when using business people in their marketing. There's a projector and maybe a presentation remote in pretty much every meeting room and auditorium ever. Still amazing, how efficient it is.
Perfect for office workers at home!
Do you think you guys could put links to videos you talk about in the descriptions. I usually watch these on my phone and would really like to watch these videos easily.
Can that box play 1080p YT-Videos or movies? And does it handle windows 8.1 smoothly?
Nice little machine (and I am obviously a year late). About the microphone thing - most Skype users connect a Webcam with integrated microphone - problem solved. I can imagine a great use for this is hobby robotics - a perfect little "brain" for it.

Wow i typed this in before I got to Linus's bit about it in the video >.>
Wow a very interesting product indeed, My parents would love to use this product!
What 2 smartphones Linus is compared the Pico to at 1:10?
you forgot the most important thing.
does it come with windows home edition or pro?
can it be used in a enterprise environment?
linus i need to know when you will upload a new build video ? pleas tell me now (i am waiting )
This is great for businesses like in Real Estate where the need for small form factor to run multi-user terminals for MLS
In regards to steam in home streaming, you could always install SteamOS on the Chromecast etc and dualboot.
Great video as always! Could you do more reviews of these new tiny tiny pc's? Or possibly a round up of small pc's and how effective they are for steam streaming? Keep up the good work 👍

On behalf of your fellow Canadians Linus, let me thank you for your wonderful US only ad choice.
I wish benq s6 has that power - it will be just perfect, I will buy it for any cost!
Why make a distinction? Isn't Bing the default search engine for ALL versions of Windows in IE?
When did you start shooting 4K? Or am i a bit sloooooow!
3:03 Do Americans use Celsius too? Serious question...
What program do you use for the pc gaming; the information, fps, etc..?
just went to your Hulu sight link to find Hulu it's only available in USA, your Canadian right, can you use it in Canada, you might mention that in your ad, but used the link don't know if that helps you.
finally reviewing stuff worth reviewing :P
I think it might work well if you want to put some kind of dashboard on your office wall.
I shall add it to the list of potential MCPCs for me. Lack of connections is a negative in that aspect though.
What is that monitor that he is using to display the PC?
Would probably use it for presentations or business meetings at the client's office. Just bring one of those rollup keyboards and a tiny mouse and hook it up to their display and its good to go.
Could you do a video on channel Super Fun opening it up and showing the inside of it?
LTT can you please see if you can use this with the Aver media usb capture card to stream to twitch? That might be a thing I'd like to try but you already have all the parts and can test it!
huluplus, I can download everything I want to watch!!
btw, many many many companies, banks, and business use thin clients. that only run a company "software" on a browser.
and only the power saved in a company would be a BIG plus to any one.
This is good for nations with economical situation gr8 product i hope they sell it in my country
How's the performance compared to LIVA and the smallest NUC ?
Really want one for a TV that's actually SMART!
Well other computers are going small, my 80 pound workstation is just ticking away.
What CPU do you know that has low heat yet high speeds?
Maybe an i5 2500t. Really depends what socket you are using.
back at the time when micro pc like that makes linus stunned
SO what about a pure media pc for streaming videos and light internet browsing in the loungeroom looks kinda perfect for that
What's wrong with the light? Looks like it's shot in the morning with the blinds raised up...
Would make a really nice Kodi media center box.
+Hunter Tyree thats what she said.
+Briggleton wut?
+Shahe Ansar sometimes I get the same thing as a result of the day of the month
How do you get that OSD in Steam stream?
Wonder how Linus will react to the chromestick
Thats what i was thinking about. Some shows on CBS, NBC, and FOX don't always show up on hulu plus through and xbox, blur-ay player etc. With this however, you could hook it up to a TV with a wireless keyboard and mouse. And have great/better way to watch netflix, hulu, youtube, etc.

That purse segment at 3:52 made me laugh.
Trying decide on getting the ecs liva, cuboxi-4 or this
Can't believe the size of the computer?? Have you not looked at your phone Linus ??
i laughed out loud when linus started putting all the external pc parts in the purse.
It also can be used for CarPC projects.
So my question is when does this come out and what is the price. because i cant seem to find any of those two pieces of information
Linus!! Love your videos but you should do one on the crucial m550 seeing as it is crucial trying to step uo their game.
u could use a multi-usb hook up. like a charger set up with 5-6 usb hook ups then you can have a audio jack to usb drive and hook the audio jacks into that.
