    Going to make this a separate comment. After playing a map specifically with these terminals (and your cargo hubs - which I LOVE), the downside I see to this is that it makes having shorter express lines a pain (2-4 major cities, or between 2 major cities). I setup my mainline initially between 6 cities (4 big cities, 2 little ones). I'm using JR East 253 units on my 'slow city to city' routes (you're using the RAE? here). This works great. However if I want one of the big trains that are in the 250-300+ kph range, then they're too long to effectively use those middle tracks and you're making special turn around loops for them. My point is that there's definitely some compromise and playstyle change needed to use these stations to their max. Although with how your outer platforms are setup with multiple terminals on the same track, there's definitely room to stuff a lot of trains on there on 1 big express line that goes up the entire mainline, but then you lose some of the fine tuning. I'm still sorting this part out lol. I've committed to playing this map out to keep getting used to your cargo hubs, but am still experimenting with the pax lines and terminals. That said, I do want to thank you for your videos. Have learned from them.

    The best thing is this is possible with base game features and not reliant on mods. I adapted the idea to create a mixed freight/passenger setup. The central road freight depot connected to the station connects to underground roads that only emerge at outlying depots, basically a subterranean hub and spoke system that local traffic can’t utilise as the depots are the only destination.

    This seems like a great idea (and it's actually realistic, the track arrangement is called a lap siding in American terminology) but when i try it in game, my trains only use the front section and I get "Could not connect all alternative terminals" errors. Am I doing something wrong or has something changed?
    EDIT: I figured it out. You cannot put signals after the platforms. They can go on the through tracks, but you can't put signals between the platform sections. You don't need them and they mess it up completely.

    OMFG!!! Why i didn't think about this before.. Now this is a game changer when it comes to build HUB's and stations.. This unlocks infinite combination to build stations and have multiple diferent trains on 1 track line inside the stations..and it does not require MODS!!! Jeeeezz My man.. you've made my day. Thx for sharing this trick.. it is just phenomenal. I was spinning my head around on how to fix the damn trains queue's before stations without MODS and thx to this trick my problem is solved. No more trains queue's before stations!!! Now my train's traffic flow's like a charm.

      @@Hushey Just subscribed after i posted the first comment :) And yeah.. i just did a complex cargo train HUB using this metod of spliting the same station. And works like a charm. For exemple.. if a 4 tracks double station is splited to 3 parts o each side.. left and right. It can manage easily 12 trains to that station only.. and thats is way more efficient than doing 12 tracks stations for using 6 trains in two diferent ways but they will have to queue because they can't enter the station if 1 train is inside on each track..but by spliting the station they do not wait in queue. This way multiply's the station efficiency by 50%. Damn .. i wish i was thinking about this trick earlier.. now i have to redo all my all ready developed map.. using this types of stations.. and watch the damn FLOW run. and the money fill the bank.. hehehe.. i all ready doing $160+ millions per year on what i updated now .. but after i finish all the map network i've build before.. it will jump to at least $300+ millions per year .. net income. But man.. the flow thru these stations is just CRAZY!!. hehehe.

    I never thought about splinting them i'am new to the game, but what i did my second game was to have separate TGV train going to the bigger cities (+400 ppl) and eventually to transport hubs (when rail from North to South crosses East to West). The rest is connected via separate line going next to TGV (love racing trains on it :P) and stoping on every possible point. When i do full circle i might do 2 separate TGV train lines. On lower speed lines i also haul cargo trains. if they don't have their own, since they are often going somewhere in the woods...

    I go for the same style as longer stations are less disruptive to city fabric than wide ones
    one thing though - I make them lowered down, so I can make level bridges at both ends. So the city end's up being cut off by up to 400 in length (in the largest city) by the station, which is basically minus one large street. The width is basically platforms and tracks, as bridges basically have 0 base. And I place them in the middle of my cities. But yeah - I find this configuration the best :)
    Just got my new PC after not touching the game for a year (had a rather weak one till yesterday) - played for ten hours, about half way through the central train-metro-tram station in the main city (though I use trams on tracks and I for level crossing without those pesky bumps, so it takes a lot of planning which definitely took a bite into that 10 hour of station building).
    Only problem with this layout - had to change the plans for the tram line as had to add terminals at the ends of the train central station as it ended being some 600m in total and it would actually take a while for a sim to walk from center to the furthest platform where I ended up putting terminating commuter trains.

    Question... what do your end stations look like, and how do you route the tracks for those? Spent hours building, destroying, and repeating several times to get it setup like what you're using (more or less) for a few cities. But the routes at the end cities aren't happy. Because they weren't the true end - was going to expend, I ended up having to put a loop in behind those terminals to make it work. But without some elevated passes (which is a pain) I see this becoming very messy at the end. Especially since I'm running 6 lines for my main track (1-2-3-3-2-1, with 3 being my mid speed, 2 being my slowest trains/freight and 1 being my high speed trains). Just doing my main stations is a pain. And I haven't even hooked up my freight yet - I always do the pax lines first.

    When allowing the long length cross-country service to pull in on the end of the platform (3 and 14), does the fact that the long platform is broken into several short ones behind it (1,2 and 12,13) affect the load/unload time of the cross-country train since its platform is shorter than the total length of the train?

    • @Hushey

    Not to flex or something but I discovered that way back in 2019. And to make it even better you can use a X-junction instead of 2 N-junctions

    • @Hushey
      @Hushey  2 года назад

      You can do, but I think N junctions are better in this instance as they can pull onto the designated through line. Maybe you can share some insight into your thoughts, why is x junctions better in your opinion? Thanks for watching

    • @sekondnature101
      @sekondnature101 2 года назад

      @@Hushey While EljeOett may have discovered this earlier, the power that has been added with the use of alternate platforms improves this drastically. Would it be possible to do X junctions with one way signals to help control direction? Then incoming trains would be able to skip trains at early platforms to go to the other platforms further down the line. For example: at 6:50 you setup the alternate routes for trains at platform 1 or 2 to avoid a train at platform 3. One issue I see is if a train is coming into platform 2 or 3 but another train is at platform 1, the incoming train must wait for platform 1 to clear. One thing that would bring this strategy to a halt is a long train that came from the middle through line and stopped at platform 3, blocking the through line. So all trains would have to fit within the platforms to avoid this. Let me know your thoughts.

      @@Hushey I played terminal railways as a kid and they had a station with the same setup with x junctions so when I started playing TpF2 I tried it and it worked. I would rather use a X junction because of my memories about it and because if you use a N junction and one train is blocking the tracks where the train has to pass a normal long platform would be better, only downside with X platforms is that you need 2 tracks in between, where if you use N you can build with one track in between. Also x junctions feel slow but I think the trains are as slow in a N as a X junction

    Hey mate, ill give you a like for the effort but i wont pretend i understand any of that spaghetti monster you made there... Im an older player and i prefer simpler things. I think this only makes sense in your head, mate, for me it seems needlessly complicated. I prefer a simple 4 track station with 2 platforms on the outside tracks. Any express or freight trains can go through the middle 2 tracks, while any IC trains can stop at the 2 platforms. I think this would be enough for any medium and large towns.
    I understand that you are trying to create realistic large train stations, but lets face it, in TF the maps are not even the size of a country, more likely the size of a county/district with up to 20 towns at most and a through station with 6 lines and 4 platforms is more than enough for most towns, but to each his own, i guess.
    However, i have to give you credit for that split platform with switches in the middle of the station, that is pretty clever.
