Personally I don't see how Online players being physical would add anything compared to the ghost lobbies. You can still all play the same levels at the same time, you can share items, you can revive the other players, AND you can race which is new. The only thing you aren't getting is jumping on each other which 90% of the time was annoying more than helpful in NSMB.
@@MayroSMMExcept everyone hated that in those games. Nearly veryone says it, it just made things a chaotic mess and the lack of touching each other was one of the first things people took notice of in the reveal.
@@MayroSMM Oh boy I sure do enjoy it when my friend jumps off a crumbling platform, and me with my other two mates have to each wait for it to respawn to progress the level
The online play looks like Co-Op with more functions, just that maybe it feels like you aren't together, but... you are. You aren't bound to the same screen, or even level, and can play with way more than 4 people. They are "ghosts," but its all live, and I dont think you can even throw or carry people in normal Co-Op, exclusing Yoshi shenanigans, so it just seems okay, great even.
@@MayroSMM actually, maybe the reason online players are ghost which can barely interact with anything is because they were scared that it would be as laggy as smm2 otherwise
@@MayroSMM One of the only differences that can be considered a downgrade is that they look and feel like they aren't there. So they don't distract players when there's a lot of people. Sure, it seems like a downgrade, but thinking about it more makes it seem like less and less of one, for me at least.
For a 2D Mario game it’s a lot. There a lot of gimmicks that improve gameplay sure, but you know what was so great about the New sup games? Any character could complete any puzzle or challenge in a level without holding you have the right badge equips. And there’s a lot less power ups this time around. New Sup delux had 8 but this one only seems to have 4. And lastly, 7 worlds instead of 8? Looks like U delux offers a far richer experience then Wonder.
@gameappreciation 1. I don't think badge equips would be necessary to complete the game 2. Yes there are less worlds, but the density of them are much compact
@@therealmrarchive Before this game was announced, I heard nothing but complains toward nsmbu and nsmb as a whole for being cheap, soulless games with a tired concept. Now that this game shows up with more life and personality, only NOW do I start seeing people talk positively about nsmbu. It's pretty darn confusing.
I mean wasn’t that one of then biggest criticisms of NSMB multiplayer as it was so even throw people and kill each other that it was not fun so I’m personally happy about that especially since it means you don’t have to be on the same screen and wait for people to catch up tho I can why people are upset having it gone tho
Personally, I'm mildly skeptical about the overall level design which looks worringly oversimplified, but I think that's exactly the point, for when the level gimmicks kick in, you can't go wrong with the surprises that you can find. I just hope the levels still get increasingly more complex and difficult too.
I think this game is gonna be awesome, but the thing I'm the most dissapointed about is that they still have the same world themes as all of the other Super Mario games (Grass, Desert, Ice, Cloud, Mountain, Lava, Beach) despite being in a completely new location. I also think it's weird that theres only FOUR regular powerups, like they straight up purged the NSMB items. Im gonna miss the penguin suit. Also that you can't' just do the regular couch co-op mode online instead of the racing mode. EDIT: DID THEY REMOVE PICKING YOUR FRIENDS UP IN CO-OP? THEY DONT SHOW THAT AT ALL THAT WAS HALF THE FUN OF CO-OP also bubble mario is just the pink luigi smash alt i dont have an issue with that i just think its funny
@@MayroSMM I understand the pessimistic idea but it also wouldn’t help to be at least a little realistic. The first trailer had a sparkly Mario so clearly there could be more than this
@@journeywayfarer_x It's not pessimistic to react on what's been shown. I think I'm the one being realistic haha. There could be more, but I'm not gonna get excited until I've seen it.
I dont know of you caught this, but they removed characters bumping into each other in multiplayer mode. So in essence there's no difference between the online and local multiplayer with friends
I’m personally fine with only knowing about 7 worlds so far, since W1 already looks promising with about 15 levels, and I’m sure the final world (even if only one level) will be that castle on Bowser’s head.
I'm sorta with you on this game. So far, there is a lot to look forward to, and everything else seems...fine, at best. The powerups are neat, a few of the worlds seem super cool, enemies are interesting, and the gameplay seems all over the place lol. Sad to see the Yoshis get the Nabbit treatment (wish they maybe made them a better character that dies in a hit or two or something), but oh well. The badges seem AWESOME, the world map structure is cool, there's so much! If anything, I appreciate that are at least trying a BIT more with stuff than they have in more recent 2D Mario games, which, while being fine, are far from super creative. I'll definately buy the game, knowing that at worst, it'll be a fine, fun time, and at best, it'll be one of the best 2D Mario's we've had in a while.
Personally for me I’m hype for the game! It’s nice to have a fresh original 2D Mario game in a while lol. I’d say my only disappointment so far is that the online is nothing like Mario maker 2 and we don’t have Wario or Rosalina as playable characters
Honestly this still kinda feels like a step backwards from 3D World. Having the 3rd axis makes each level a lot more dynamic and unique compared to hold right simulators. It's nice that they're experimenting with new stuff, hopefully it isn't just a reaction to the new soup criticism.
3d land and 3d world are not the same type of games as the real 3D games and the 2D games, those are a different kinds, a breed of the 2, 3d world's style wasn't supposed to replace 3d like people thought at first and it's also isn't supposed to replace 2d Tldr, that's a different thing altogether...
It's been rumored the game will actually be hard, though outside of a handful of series Nintendo is kind of exclusively making easy games so who knows if that just means moderately challenging
I'm also not sure yet. I recently discovered that 2D Mario is not really my thing and I prefer 3D collectathon Mario games. I considered Super Mario 3D World +Bowser's Fury the only execption, but I also sold that recently. I want to be optimistic, but I really need to think about it.
I’m not sold on naming the game after an event switch instead of a more consistent platforming gameplay element, but luckily much of the quality seems to be there. It still seems to retain some NSMB laziness, but it’s heading towards better 2d platforming.
I am looking forward to the game, however I’m worried it will be too easy. Also maybe they’re hiding an bonus world or something that they’re not showing. I also wish Yoshi wasn’t easy mode.
Im really sad about yoshi being a baby mode character i love yoshi but i want challange, i wish that if you took damage you would have to spam buttons to gain control back from yoshi as he runs around the map
What I dont get the most about all this is that they have a system in the game that could allow for something like an easy mode. They could totally just add a badge that gives you damage immunuty, so I especially dont understand why they chose to do it like this. If its because you can only equip one badge per party of players then why not just... Let each player equip one for themselves The solution is basically right there and they dont use it
I think the platforming is the last thing I’d worry about. Even the most derivative nsmb games have had excellent platforming and level design. I could be wrong though, only time will tell!
@@Evdafawth I'd like NSMB to be more creative without taking away from the core platforming that works so well. Something like 3D World in 2D would be incredible combined with Wonder's animations.
my issue isn't with your opinion it's that so many of the reasons are petty, like calling the wonder flowers "Just an event flag" yeah that's videogames
@@MayroSMMBecause a lot of Mario is about charm? It's charming and I think I will have fun seeing all the crazy things that "Just an Event Flag" can mean from a creative team at Nintendo I mean in this Direct alone we already saw it can put you in Actual Space
@@internetguy7319 An example I would give is Bowser's Fury. Yes it's "technically an event flag", but it's a consistent and interesting idea. Wonder just has "there's a switch and stuff happens" which isn't an interesting selling point to me at all. You can use On/Off switches in Mario Maker.
I think it’s just me but the entire world changing and causing chaos and new enemies and hazards is more interesting than blocks disappearing / appearing
You are saying that you don’t care, but you have to remember that all of these features are here for people who either have a lower skill set (especially considering that apparently, the difficulty is going to be like Mario Bros 3), or just like that kind of gameplay. (Although online multiplayer would be awesome) I can totally see Nintendo adding a game mode like Luigi’s balloon world where you hide standees through a course.
A lot of the love for this game is coming from people who completely hate NSMB. It looks visually more interesting but gameplay wise the NSMB games are amazing so this isn’t really seeming to be a step up in that regard.
I have forgive the way they have done the online, it’s really not that bad. Considering you can’t actually interact with other players (eg: pick them up) then being able to play with many people is better than just one on one, you can still do it with friends just fine
I really like your more critical look on the trailer. I feel like most people are so excited about having a new 2D Mario that isn't just the 5th "New" game that they aren't being more skeptical. I think a lot of the introduced content is just flashier/reskinned versions of things that have been done before. There was not nearly enough focus on the level design in my opinion. One thing I'd like to point out though is that I don't think world quantity should be used to equate to level quantity or quality. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is arguably one of the best 2D platformers on the Switch with consistently great levels and it only has six worlds, excluding the final secret world which itself only has three levels.
Yeah absolutely, I overlooked just how many levels are in each world too. I guess it's more the way they said "omg 7 worlds!" like that's a big deal compared to past entries haha.
I'm honestly a bit glad to know that at least one content creator I watch is also critical about certain aspects of the game. The game's got a few interesting things from the looks of it, but as someone who wasnt that blown away by the first small bit of gameplay and is still not all that excited by a lot of what was shown (which was a lot of the game's mechanics), I feel a bit better knowing I'm not just an outlier in terms of opinions. It'll probably still be a good game overall of course, but with how much people like to hate on nsmb it just sorta confuses me that all it takes is a visual overhaul for people to expect this game to suddenly be 10 times better. Speaking a bit of hyperbole here, I know its a bit more than just visuals, but thats probably the biggest thing i keep hearing people talk about and I personally don't quite view the visuals as that great tbh.
The thing with Yoshi being an easy mode character I see is how can he be a normal character? All of the normal characters play the same, so no float jump for Luigi and no hover for Peach or Daisy so if Yoshi was included he wouldn't have his flutter jump, eat enemies or probably the ability to be ridden either which defeats the point of playing as him in the first place and if they gave Yoshi his ability the others would too. Don't need to be invincible but I guess they didn't want to make powerups for Yoshi considering he has different colors and it'd get confusing or small Yoshi. Also four player easy mode I guess with Nabbit included for some reason despite him making the roster 11 now. Guess if you just want invincibility for whatever reason I suppose Also off-topic but why does Yoshi look so dumb when he has something in his mouth? His mouth literally extends the entirety of his nose, they couldn't have just puffed his cheeks up like every time before?
My biggest dissapointment was the world selection, despite the rest looking so interesting at least Why mario games are so scared to give us a factory world? like we know wonder will make the levels more fun thanks to the wonder seeds but maaaan grass, desert, Ice, Beach, Jungle, cloud and lava theme? I hope the moding comunity give us bad or detrimental badges just for the sake of it :D
I do actually think I get the point. I was legitimately very skeptical of the first trailer, because most of the gameplay we saw looked very gimmicky. Obviously that wasn't a bad thing, but it did have me concerned.
Really weird take considering I feel like this is Mario PERFECTED, as in we could get Wonder sequels for decades and I would be completely content, but you do you
Not to rain on your parade here, but I feel then we'd end up with this series becoming the next nsmb. Game looks like a fine enough game, but I feel if the next 3 mario games played exactly like this itd get stale for a lot of people real quick. Plus I personally dont see in what way this game perfects mario (from the gameplay we got so far). It looks like fairly basic mario platforming to me, with one or two small twists here and there. Biggest points to note are probably the playable characters and maybe badges? Other than that though it's just sort of normal mario gameplay, with the occasional sections of levels that change up how the game is played.
nintendo are really boring with the design for a mario switch. Its just red. I might as well paint my switch blue and say that i've got a sonic the hedgehog switch.
I'm honestly a bit shocked just how bare bones they're going with some of the switch designs. The 3ds and new 3ds had some really cool designs (especially new 3ds since you can swap em)
IMO, you're kind of missing the interesting part of badges. Not only are they cool gameplay, but they're going to make routing and speedrunning really interesting because you have to decide which badge you want to unlock, which ones to equip to optimally beat a level, etc. The badges also bring back a bit of super mario 2 with the different character abilities. It seems like you don't like a lot of this because "it's different", but honestly a lot of people are burnt-out on the NSMB/Maker formula, and this is a breath of fresh air.
Absolutely not, I'm very open to things being different! But the oppsoite is true too, different doesn't always mean good. I just hope there are some more interesting badges than just making the levels easier. The invisible one is a funny novelty but it doesn't really look fun.
@@MayroSMM Fair enough! To me the NSMB games were never about difficulty in the first place, they are quite easy all things considered. But I do hope that the unlockable levels and badge challenges might bring some amount of difficulty. And as I mentioned, badge acquisition is going to be super interesting for speedrun routing. Excited to see all the strats in that regard :) Anyways, to each their own, and I guess we'll just have to wait until the game releases, I might just be overly optimistic :D Thanks for taking the time to reply.

The only thing you aren't getting is jumping on each other which 90% of the time was annoying more than helpful in NSMB.
I disagree completely. The physical interactions are THE thing that makes it feel like you're playing together rather than just sorta being there.

@AidenIsABot I plan on let’s playing it on my main channel by the way.
It just seems like a downgrade when Mario Maker got it right.
@gameappreciation
1. I don't think badge equips would be necessary to complete the game
2. Yes there are less worlds, but the density of them are much compact
@@therealmrarchive the badges are only for the special levels where you earn the badges

I've been very consistent about my opinions regarding NSMB. My story has not changed at all.
Why did Nintendo have to use ghosts instead of just having 4 people play online together?!
wdym? thats exactly what you can do
@@zorby1008 But your friends are ghosts too. You cant ground pound them or throw them or kill them, the best part

It literally just looks like your bog standard 2d mario platformer. Theres nothing simplified about it-
I think this game is gonna be awesome, but the thing I'm the most dissapointed about is that they still have the same world themes as all of the other Super Mario games (Grass, Desert, Ice, Cloud, Mountain, Lava, Beach) despite being in a completely new location. THEY DONT SHOW THAT AT ALL THAT WAS HALF THE FUN OF CO-OP
also bubble mario is just the pink luigi smash alt i dont have an issue with that i just think its funny

Honestly this still kinda feels like a step backwards from 3D World. Having the 3rd axis makes each level a lot more dynamic and unique compared to hold right simulators. It's nice that they're experimenting with new stuff, hopefully it isn't just a reaction to the new soup criticism.
3d land and 3d world are not the same type of games as the real 3D games and the 2D games, those are a different kinds, a breed of the 2, 3d world's style wasn't supposed to replace 3d like people thought at first and it's also isn't supposed to replace 2d

I’m not sold on naming the game after an event switch instead of a more consistent platforming gameplay element, but luckily much of the quality seems to be there. It still seems to retain some NSMB laziness, but it’s heading towards better 2d platforming.
I mean you say that but presumably every single level will have a wonder event so it's not like a small part of the game

I am looking forward to the game, however I’m worried it will be too easy. Also maybe they’re hiding an bonus world or something that they’re not showing. I also wish Yoshi wasn’t easy mode.
If they’re live ghosts it’s proper multiplayer I guess, I think they got rid of the annoying thing in nsmb where you accidentally grab each other.
Let each player equip one for themselves
The solution is basically right there and they dont use it

You are saying that you don’t care, but you have to remember that all of these features are here for people who either have a lower skill set (especially considering that apparently, the difficulty is going to be like Mario Bros 3), or just like that kind of gameplay. Of course, accessibility is fantastic and I'm not denying that! But as you said, I'm not the target audience. So why would I get excited about it?

A lot of the love for this game is coming from people who completely hate NSMB. It looks visually more interesting but gameplay wise the NSMB games are amazing so this isn’t really seeming to be a step up in that regard.
I have forgive the way they have done the online, it’s really not that bad. Considering you can’t actually interact with other players (eg: pick them up) then being able to play with many people is better than just one on one, you can still do it with friends just fine

i personally cant wait! this games looks great! if you end up not liking it that fine. 🍍👍
Guess if you just want invincibility for whatever reason I suppose
Also off-topic but why does Yoshi look so dumb when he has something in his mouth? His mouth literally extends the entirety of his nose, they couldn't have just puffed his cheeks up like every time before?
My biggest dissapointment was the world selection, despite the rest looking so interesting at least
Why mario games are so scared to give us a factory world? like we know wonder will make the levels more fun thanks to the wonder seeds but maaaan grass, desert, Ice, Beach, Jungle, cloud and lava theme?

Looks good, but easy at the same time
nintendo are really boring with the design for a mario switch.

(the coins are a cute touch tho)
I’m getting cuphead vibes from this trailer
So… is nabbit on Mario’s side now and rebelled against bowser or is he just doing this for his own profit?
Excited to see all the strats in that regard :)
Anyways, to each their own, and I guess we'll just have to wait until the game releases, I might just be overly optimistic :D
