The Piles have been great this year! If you know then you know ! Lake Champlain is my home lake The issue is the run Down south is hit or miss this year I would 100% say to hit the Piles but if you make a run down south your rolling the Dice .. Because the bigger fish for me at least have been farther south then you can hit. The Lilly Pad fields have been good for some largies when there is good cloud cover and some light chop but again its a 70/30 chance and more work for the largies worth catch then it is to hit the rock piles deep for the big smallies..The Champlain Largies and smallies have been hitting spinner baits for me ( all silver Z Man spinnerbait) has a reflecting pattern on the willow blade that reflects rainbow smelt colors and drop shots with pink fluke or or pink Z man .. By far the meanest fish are the St.Lawerence river smallies or the Hudson river smallies there super mean.. but don't get it twisted the Champlain smallies down towards the Lachute river connecting Lake George and Lake Champlain there mean as a bull also...

I live in Scottsboro Alabama on Lake Guntersville and I’ve never caught a smallmouth but I can tell you that pound for pound, the Coosa River Spot has definitely got my vote! Them things are mean as they come and fight like they are going to die but it sure is fun

Scott you talk about the jack hammer favorite rod I have ordered the balance line rods. What reel you recommend and how do you feel about that line of Rods in spinning rods and baitcasting rods.
@@kingkr8586 it certainly seems to be a factor. Scott’s last win was 4 years ago and no top 10’s this year. To be honest I don’t see how he does it. Considering the quality of his RUclips content I would imagine it difficult to find that balance. I hope he gets it figured out. He’s one of the best in the world and should be top 5 or 10 every year in AOY.
After watching this vid last weeks tournament fell right into place in terms of daily weights that will be needed to win as you kept mentioning. We were praying hard on cut day, but man it was tough watching all morning and seeing “No Activity” keep showing up on BassTrakk. Hope practice is going well this week. I am pulling for one of the Johnston twins to win this tournament. I believe that is the only way Scott can get into the classic. He is #42 right now and needs one of those 2 to win to push the number to #42 to make the classic. Matt is #41 and is in and right on the cut line for the Classic. Praying and pulling for you Scott.

I honestly think smallmouth have always put up the strongest fight, especially for their sizes but the strongest type of bass I’ve ever caught was a big 22pound striped bass, but I’m sure had that been a 22pound smallmouth I would’ve probably never reeled it in with how hard it would’ve fought.
Do a rod reel vid showing all your rods and what you use on them for line and whatnot

Coosa spot for shur is meanest and I’ve caught several smallies on Erie and st Clair but Coosa spots have it for shur
Small mouth has the most fight for sure. Everyone I have caught. They just don’t give up. They even try to put the hooks in your hand once you land em. Spots bad ass too but not like a smallie

smallmouth are def the meanest but the large mouth hit the hardest especially when they get past 5 to 8 lbs when they pull if feels like u snagged a stump its crazy but smallmouth will def hit the fastest but. When those big largemouth hit its like nothing else lol but always love watching these videos they def give me inspiration to keep chasing my fishing goal of becoming a tournament angler or at least compete to some extent.

Late for me, can't stick around. But what I like about this opening video (around 4:00) is that I lived along a lake, with a dock, and if I show up early with bait... I caught a lot of fish. Not a lot of bass, but yes come... crappie, bullhead, catfish, bluegill, and the occasional scrapie carp. But yeah, I understand why you are at this location. The fish move, and you have to move with them. Sorry Scott, it's' coming up on my birthday and retirement. I've enjoyed your channel so very much. Were's your camera man/woman? Anyway, keep at it. Looking forward to your next competition.

Sorry Scott that I haven't kept up with you in past couple of weeks. My daughter has to have surgery so we have been running her back an forth to Children's Hospital in Little Rock. , Over a 100 miles drive one way. I hope you have done good.
I see him pull line from his spool often when reeling a fish in? Is he checking drag? Is it a nervous tick. I really don't understand haha
He is giving the fish line so that the hook doesn’t pull. Smallmouth are very prone to coming off and he is trying to prevent that. Sometimes it is better to give them line instead of letting them pull it themselves.
