Got about 17 hours into this one already, it's fun and the higher difficulties make it interesting.
Are they actually harder?
It seemed to say you got more xp and loot which is totally unnecessary and tends to just mean you escalate and end up overpowered. (more meta currency for harder fights is more likely to be OK). It doesn't have to be like that but it is a trap devs tend to jump into.
@@Timlagor I'm not into the Ultimate difficulties yet but on Hard II the Pawns have started inflicting a -1 armor debuff. If you've played these types of games before it won't be challenging until the higher difficulties I think. The ships get more components and deciding what to destroy and what to work around between the strategic and tactical layer is the biggest change I've noticed. Suddenly instead of 3 cannons and 3 components you have to handle 5 and 5 and that starts to add up.
Are the pirates you use in combat more puzzle rpg like all the abilities you learn are pushing/pulling enemies etc? Or is it more rpg based where you can make an OP crew that cuts through units.
@@Zanaki113 The abilities are randomized, the pirates get their main ability and two skill trees. You can easily build a direct combat team, the game allows that through the fear mechanic. If you overkill enough the rest of the enemy team will surrender. I have a musketeer with the sharpshooter skill, I never use her aim/fire two turn ability. I use the sharpshooter shot to do 5 damage in a 5 square line to all enemies. Throwing enemies into terrain or pushing them into fire/tar/blight is a necessary part of the strategy, but straight killing power is easy to build for and just as fun.
it looks better than skull and bones lol
As a pirate game it is better than Ubisoft's "AAAA" title. Certainly more engaging.
Talk about pole vaulting a limbo bar there...
It doesn't take much
To be fair , thats an extremely low bar xD
My morning sh*t looks better than Skull & Bones....
You said "Into the Breach" and I'm in. I consider that to be the single best tactics game ever made--it's a masterpiece in every way.
ITB is great but I still prefer FTL
I see Northernlion is out posting on his alt
see Ubisoft? 20,000 staff and you couldn't think of this? thank F for indies.
Once a company reaches a certain size, bureaucracy becomes the dominate force within it. Innovation and creativity require a true free market to flourish. Gaming is a good current example. Look at all the awesome small studio games, from Factorio to Going Medieval. I haven't bought a triple a game in years.
I thought Anno 1800 was an awesome game. Ditched it when Ubisoft left steam for their own money-grab. I will never buy another Ubisoft game. Eff me Ubisoft? Eff you for eternity. And eff the bureaucracy.
@@plumbthumbs9584 same, I haven't bought a AAA in maybe a decade now. I use IsThereAnyDeal to notify of game deals and the threshold on my wishlist is set to 6$ haha.
this game was made far better decades ago. Its called sid meiers pirates. yall just sucking off random dice rolls in a game. Its kinda sad and low effort of "indie" devs. Kinda like the youtubers that cover it.
@@DaClaptain Sid Meier's was great yeah, but its not and equivalency. you forget, people have been "sucking off" random dice rolls in games since ACTUAL random dice rolls ( i.e. DnD) long before that game! and Rogue , the game that spawned this craze is from long before pirates mate. neither are themselves an indication of lazy design.
Turn based combat is not equivalent to real time, in SMP you could win most ship invasions just spamming left arrow key thrust! hardly tactical . It's two completely different approaches to design , you just saw the pirate setting and started typing didn't you 🤣
@@plumbthumbs9584 dude what the hell are you on ? Do you know the number of indie studio that make absolutely BANGERS game; then shut off after a few month. Or just, indie game that are never finished because, well, thanks to the "true free market". Ubisoft make dumb game, not only because of bureaucracy, but also because of shareholder and "manager" kill creativity. Maybe all the harassment, misoginy, racism and just "frat mentality" with bullying doesnt help too. Anyway, thinking that gaming need true free market is so wrong; some of the most creative and fun game i've played were financed by some kind of state institution.
In France, for every time you buy a cinema ticket; a percent go to some kind of fund that is used for new filmmaker and crew (and otherstuff). I think having this kind of system for gaming could be pretty awesome.
Also, just so people are aware : today is the beginning of a Strike inside Ubisoft.
coming home and just listening to you play indie games is literally my favorite pass time, before sleep these days
> "...deck based combat."
Splat's been showing a lot of games which I can make a wishlist decision on within the first few minutes of the video lately. This one is a yes.
Surprisingly good graphics for the genre.
Been loking for a pirate game, thanks Splat
if only you could fins another o while you're loking.
...
;)
Piratical foray into mayhem and debauchery? Absolutely!
This looks rad, thanks Splatt!
I'm not typically a roguelike gamer, but I do like tactical RPGs. I picked up this game, and I actually find it super addicting. I'm having a blast with it!
"you want to pay attention to your plays in this game."
Backspace undo, lower left corner...
It's a very fun game, even thought it's painful to watch Splat's tactical skills.
It gives a very piraty feel when you kill all but one enemy fighter with cannons before the deck battle starts, and just walk in the ship and shoot them with a pistol, ending the combat in the first and only action.
I'd also wish that the tech trees are longer, or more varied.
Like I said I don't like into the breach so this wasn't a game for me, rather people in my audience who might like it because the quality seemed good.
@@SplattercatgamingLoL, all these years and I think this is the first time I’ve seen you respond to a comment.
@@Splattercatgaming "Like I said I don't like into the breach "
that's what she said.
@@Splattercatgaming Feathers ruffled. Doubloons bent. Tricorns smooshed. Parrots winged. Monkeys overboard. Powder dampened. Rum spilt.
@@Splattercatgaming We still love you senpai.
"You wanna pay attention to your plays in this game"... completely misses the big UNDO button in the bottom left corner. Classic Splat ^^"
If only it had open world exploration!!! Man, i just want a proper open world tactical pirate game with both ship and naval combat, but i guess its too much to ask for.
To be fair, I don't think it's an unreasonable ask being that adventure is half the appeal of being a pirate haha
battle brothers but its pirate themed
I would love a game like that
Every crew needs a Grumpy Louie!
I didn't know the devs behind killingfloor also did publishing until i found this game on Steam
Yep, I was watching another streamer do a paid promotion of this game, and I bought it instantly. Really nicely done, and I cannot wait to spend hours losing at it. :D
'So I can summon el pulpo'...love it.
Hey, Splat! How about making a compilation video every week(month?) with short review on each game you played for the past period? Like a 10 minute video briefly reviewing several games. Great job by the way!
I got that "Sleep now in the fire" reference.
It reminds a lot of abbandon ship, which is good because i love that game
That was my first thought when I saw this. The original FTL-inspired pirate ship game lol
Every time I look at the title I see Roger Waters.
Now I have the munchies, listening to Echoes from Live at Pompeii on repeat.
Now this is a pirate game. I don't know what the other guys were doing. Also were you summoning the kraken or the police?? Lol
Obligatory,
"YAARRR!!"
It's generally really good considering the style and the mechanics
Playing it on Steam, its well good. Various difficulty levels and good depth mechanics but easy to get into.
Im 12 minutes into the video and I Wonder if you know theres an Undo button ;)
I did not oops
Looks like a cool idea .... hopefully it will be fun
After watching this the game went on my Steam Watch List. I am gonna get it when the price is abit lower.
Man, i’ve lost count of the time i got excited over a game shown here only to find out it’s turn based.
I have nothing against people who enjoy it, don’t get me wrong. But man, i was hoping it was gonna scratch that itch that Skull and Bones failed to deliver.
Oh well, back to Black Flag.
Forget Skull and Bones. This is better.
The only thing I want from a pirate game is freely sailing the ship and firing cannons while I do so. Clicking squares doesn't cut it.
Reminds me of Abandon Ship, which as I recall being quite fun.
ThankYou SitSpla77
Shard in the eye sounds a lot like Rhea of the Coos getting a orb shard in her eye.
Tactical Breach Wizards is one of my favs, so this would be a no brainer if it wasnt $50aud
My post-dinner brain read the game title as "Rogue Walters" and was wondering who tf Walter was 😅
Oh really? I read Roger Waters (you know former Pink Floyd bassist) lol
Abandon ship looked so cool but its actually really shallow from what Ive seen. Hopefully this is better
excellent!
Still praying for another decent open world pirate game but I'll take a roguelike pirate game while waiting.
No-ice !
yeah idk if i like the ftl movement in this type of game, being able to move freely in the waters would have been more ideal but cant have everything you want
Bones and skulls
another comment for cyber knights revisit 🙏
Have you not been to disney before? This is the natural evolution of their business. It'll be over 50 bucks for a hamburger within 5 years if they are still in business.
I've played the board game.
🖤
Comment for the comment god!
Reply for the reply throne!
Thank you my good sir XD
what was in the chest?
this game needs better attack / execution animations
99th comment woooo!
Seems interesting but not really my cup of tea😄
got this and had to refund, sea fights is just the same set of ships but with randomized slots. Got boring really quick
I really wish that they offered a female main character
I would not play any games if it wasn't for indie games. AAA GAMES SUCK
You CLAIM Indie games are your passion but your just game hopping never sticking to any game so you don't seem to be as passionate as you claim. You also seem set on telling everyone about your links and I can never figure out these links if they are monetized or not but if they are you are supposed to mention it.
I copied the actual store link and pasted it in here and I don't get all that gibberish so must be affiliate links or some form of tracker to count hits.
I enjoy passionate gamers but you do not seem to be passionate about gaming but more so about making money.
Man crazy how splatted cat keeps sucking off games that are worse then games made decades ago. Kinda sad way to beg online. Sid Meiers Pirates is far better and probably cheaper.
