^This. I'd have loved to see Rarran see his deck in action. Maybe learn how the deck plays in practice, and how an experienced Magic player would run it.
He did quite a few bombardment decks back in old Capenna standard when it was a new card. Similar spell package as here with Ledger Shredder, he maybe did a later version with Haughty Djinn as well? As a card it had its time, but Boseju and Invoke Despair gave it the soft rotation.
This format is interesting. In my opinion it'd be interesting if you played the deck BO3 and had the autonomy to add 15 cards to "fix it" every second match. It'd provide insightful content on deckbuilding and we'd be able to see the difference right away against the same thing.
That deluge spell isn't bad at all with bombardment. You don't really want it to be exiled by bombardment, but you can cast it from the graveyard to get it out of your graveyard. If you have enough mana you could cast it back to back to ensure it won't be exiled. Before you have bombardment in play it's golden though and helps you get the cards you need. *edit: probably a 1 or 2 of only though and it does have a high cast cost for draw. If you are sure you will have mana it's good, and since the deck by that point has some high cost cards it seems likely you would.
I'm really glad this got CGB to play Bombardment, which is just about my favorite card in magic. The lows are low but the highs are such a giddy sugar rush
What did everyone get for the opening quiz? I got Azorious apparently. 117:44 That player evaluation was super wholesome. It's a phenomenal way to build each other up and is also quite humbling. Excellent work, CGB.
I doubt any deck that relays on permanents that have to stay on board tap-out has ANY chances to be good in a meta were White (and multicolor) can remove any permanent for less than 4 mana. Honestly i wish that they bad Binding when Wilds of Eldraine come. Aatraxa is fine, domain players can keep their value wincon. But in general it sucks that ""just because without Binding domain decks would be to slow"" every midrange deck that is not Dimir/Mono Black is literally unplayable. The meta right now is, literally, "Do you have a good matchup against Aatraxa?" checklist. Dimir, Mono Black, Esper, kind of Orzhov, mono red. Those are the kind of decks that can win the war against Aatraxa.
I'd love to see analysis after or make improvements to the deck and see if you could get more wins with your knowledge of the meta. This is honestly so much fun to watch!
Celestia is great for the decks that want to filter out Lands and gain life. It's good in any deck expected to hit mid game. T to 6 turns. Helps fix draws a little bit
LOLOL, “there are sometimes certain decks that do dumb things and just attack your face and I don’t like losing to it” 🤣🤣 I’m with you, timely reinforcements was one of my favorite cards of all time 🤣
I like this kind of content more. Honestly with all the sets released frequently I lost track of all the cards. So I want some chill fun content like this more.
I have never played mtg in my entire life, and unless it becomes accessible for blind people I don't think I will, even though I want. I am typically here from the Hearthstone side, but you two have such a perfect synnergy, this was a blast to watch. CGB is just too charismatic.
This is so cute. Props to Rarran for usually identifying what cards are good, and when to stop before doing win more stuff. The issue is really just game knowledge and knowing what cards work with each other in the context of the game. So much low dirext damage/boardwipe and the two Swiftspears are the biggest issue - and incidentally, all would be far better in Hearthstone where damage is permanent.
This deck really shines when you add a solid win-con. 2 hull breaker and 2 bombardments. Scalding viper, Iconoclast, and djinn or chrome seed shark. The goal is to mix card draw and bounce spells with no counterspells to keep yourself alive into the late game where you develop the mana to play hullbreaker horror and a cheap spell. Substitute deluge for card draw that works with bombardment. I really like the use of curate, haven’t used it with the deck before.
You can run some counter spells, they just need the potential to add some value to the bombardment, I just looked up standard counters and saw “An offer you can’t refuse” and I kinda love the idea of using it to counter your brotherhood’s ends or other redundant spells.
Imo would have had a shot in game 2 if you played Chandra before Bomba. Chandra, plus 2, double Curate to draw another instant or two. Next turn Bomba, hold a doubled instant, use it to answer their combo somehow.
I was white/black (Orzhov) based off the quiz, but I’ve always naturally gravitated towards golgari. Playing cards from the graveyard is cool, plus Black/Green is a cool color combo
this is literally a hearthstone deck called rommath mage. rommath has a battlecry that says, "cast a copy of EVERY spell that did not start in your deck", you basically play a bunch of cards that create copy of good spells in your deck or just generate good spells, throw in another card that creates a 1/1 copy of rommath and you infinitely play rommaths. but this is just derived from shudderwock shaman, which does the same thing except with battlecrys.
Correct me if I am wrong, but couldn't you in game 1, used chandra +1 on his turn to cast make disapear instead of burning it on your turn so you coulda countered atraxa?
@@you238 Makes sense then, I'm just used to these kinds of quizzes giving a "how much did you fit into each stereotype" breakdown at the end + assumed it was that.
@@brianarsuaga5008 Then it's a different deck. Also, relying on board wipes is extremely risky, especially in historic brawl. Oh, and Izzet has a massive lack of board wipes.
@@gaberielpendragon :p yes, very different! historic, not historic brawl, and I play it in jeskai. Bombardment is such a severe buildaround that it still has some similarities in playstyle imo, but yeah I shouldn't have said "playable deck" here implying izzet. I couldn't get izzet to work.
@@gaberielpendragon to be clear, I do a lot of nonsense instant-wraths with leyline to make it work, and I think I've gotten past plat only once or twice, so "playable" is doing some lifting here too
@@gaberielpendragon Also if you're wondering how it could possibly work in historic (rather than brawl), quite a few aggro decks fall apart if you sweep once or twice per cycle, occasionally getting some 1-2 life. A couple mixed in doomskars helps get under the clock, and I have to VERY aggressively scry/draw into two spells per turn cycle.
Good rule of thumb for Rarran in the future: If it's a competitive format, anything over mana value 5 is basically unplayable unless it wins the game instantly.
I love that he takes one look at Sheoldred and determines that it is busted enough to justify going into black if for no other reason than playing Sheoldred. That card is truly that ridiculous. "What is this card? Why did they make this? Is this banned?" I'm there.
I think if he had kept/put more player burn in there the deck would have had more of a chance. The deck just didn’t have the damage to kill someone outside incubator tokens which are slow
Awesome video! it was very fun to watch, and an unexpected collab. 36:03 Also please does anyone know if i can find the specific song playing in the background from the first game?
The only thing that would have made this better is having his live reactions to the deck in action. Arcane Bombardment didn't do all too bad, all things considered. Would love to see a more refined version after your deckbuilder has seen the deck played.
This was a really cool video! Livened up the meta and had some high stakes ;) Sheoldred is also really uncool, and has been anti-content all across the board. In a ton of Crim's and Seths videos their brews get hammered by One Ring/Sheoldred.
Can we please make this a series
This is sooo fun to watch
I love it
I loved the idea and @Rarran did a great job judging chat's suggestions. I just wished he was there commenting the matches live with CGB
^This. I'd have loved to see Rarran see his deck in action. Maybe learn how the deck plays in practice, and how an experienced Magic player would run it.
i was thinking the same
Yeah that was a big miss imo
"You pretend to be good at Magic everyday."
_CGB chokes_
This is going to be good.
More Rarran deckbuilding please! This is awesome!
I really enjoy the occasional alternate content like this ❤
This warms my heart to see another Izzet deck being built. I was dying laughing watching chat go nuts over Jinny G and CGBs reaction.
Now I wonder how CGB would make an arcane bombardment deck in the same colours.
Yeah, I'd love to see him "complete" the deck as it were. Give it the CGB twist
He did quite a few bombardment decks back in old Capenna standard when it was a new card. Similar spell package as here with Ledger Shredder, he maybe did a later version with Haughty Djinn as well? As a card it had its time, but Boseju and Invoke Despair gave it the soft rotation.
@ZeRedSpy you mean compleate....
This is such a cool concept. Rarran does these types of videos so super cool to randomly find the other side of them!

@@Asageun I assume they mean that CovertGoBlue would build the sideboard, not Rarran.
a interesting concept to have a player that doesn't usually play mtg build a deck thanks cgb a good mix up to your standard videos.
I have never watched a Magic game before (I came from Rarran's channel) so a lot of this was over my head, but it was really fun to learn!
35:15 I am so proud of you. Wonderful teamwork on this .
38:15 Covert Go RED!?
Caught the deckbuilding on stream but couldn't stay for the games. This is one of the decks I've ever seen, there's certainly jankier stuff in mythic.
Of all the decks I’ve ever seen in magic, this was really one of them
omg, what a fun idea. great vid CGB. I've seen the HS and MTG players collab videos before a bit, and its great content :D

That's like a breath of a fresh air! So glad to see CGB enjoying the game
WOW, what an entertaining video and concept!
That hour and 20 minutes FLEW by. Please do more stuff like this!!!
Forgive me father CGB cause I have sinned. In a controlish meta, I did try monored for ranking up. 3 wins from mythic right now 😅

"And after the burn at 04:20 , it was clear one of the colors was going to be red..."
Indeed you do the same in Hearthstone, nice!
I love the thinking with the deck formation from a new player perspective.
MOAR content like this!!! One of your best videos in a while.

I also got Izzet. So I guess it's time to build me some shenaniganery!

I would LOVE to see how this deck does after a revisit. Definitely seems to have some potential but needs refinement to work in the current meta.

I've never done that quiz before, but I thoroughly enjoy playing Izzet.
I'm now 41 minutes in and SO sad that he didn't trust his instinct that Atraxa was coming in Game 1.

Cool deck. Would love to see you smooth out the edges on it one day.
I gotta say.. though the deck had some bad match ups.. with a couple of tweaks and practice.. it does have some potential
