2:53 "It's like a quickdraw effect"
-Rarran when talking about the quickdraw keyword, 2024
Pretty sure mtg has a quick draw like effect. Miracle I think?
@@taylon5200 Yeah, that's the one. Triggers if you drew it this turn (has to be randomly drawn, can't tutor or return it).
@@SeventhSolar you can tutor it to the top of your deck, if you put it on the top of your deck in anyway as long as it is the first card you draw this turn the effect happens.
@@SeventhSolar You can play it for cheaper if it's specifically the _first_ card you draw in a turn
@@taylon5200I would probably say impulse draw (exile from top of library, you may play it this turn) is closer to Quickdraw. Miracle cares only about the first card drawn, whereas impulse draw cares about you playing cards the turn you actually drew it. Of course, you lose access to them after (usually anyway), but it's still closer as an overall game effect.
"Minions are not a spell" makes me proud
5 seconds later for the bit:
"Malygos, draw spells until your hand is full. Are minions spells?"
Rarran shitting on elemental mage is wild because it is STILL, even after the rotation, the HIGHEST winrate deck for mage currently at 54.13%.
isnt elemental mage one of those lower rank decks? Obviously still playable in legend as far as I know, but it might not be quite as good.
The thing to remember about Pandaren Importer is that when rotation happened, it became a meta breaking deck since you could cheese shadow step into always being guaranteed (Since there were 23 rogue spells at rotation, running 20 without shadow step meant it was always guaranteed). Of course, this was more just a Brann enabling dumb stuff and shadow step still being a 5* no matter what happens, but Pandaren Importer was the key piece to make that stupid otk deck.
Also, funny that Fogsail Freebooter came straight after as that was an interchangeable key piece in that.
Sivara was played in every single mage deck outside of big spell mage the first year it was in game, Rarran, you are just wrong
Facts
TIME TO WASH AWAY THE FILTH TIME TO WASH AWAY THE FILTH TIME TO
but for real i remember sivara being a staple in Nathria with frozen touch because you could activate her with just one or two of those and then she gave you three back to hand for insane lethal reach. As far as i remember she gave them back infused if you cast the original infused so you had like 18 damage from hand.
getting to get empowered cards like corrupted chill touch back as corrupted was pretty fire
Exactly. Also, he said he couldn't think of a single tier 1 deck for freebooter, ignoring the scourge that was pirate warrior.
Yeah it got played a ton to my recollection
17:25 dont forget that Deckhand is also a pirat for your boy patches
"I don't know a Tier 1 Deck that Fogsail Freebooter was in"
Bro forgot 5 years of Pirate Warrior
It was so traumatic expierience he repressed these memories
anything with a pirate tag would have been played in that, though.
Bro we were playing bloodsail raider in zooloock without any weapon
@@edwardking9359 True, the tribe synergy is quite high in that deck. For fun I googled a wild pirate warrior list and the fist result had 2 copies of it in though.^^
@@eroslampitella2629was it like just for funsies or patches reasons?
Sivara outside of Naga mage sees play as a greedy resource tool. It's competitive with Flint imo, but neither have the upper hand in terms of viability ovarall
flint is a lot stronger in Arena since it doesn't require setup.
Also generating Drilly the kid auto win you the game.
@@hinugundamB They were talking about Standard, and Sivara was much stronge than Flint, she saw play in nearly every single Mage deck lol
14:20 "This one has a clear winner"
Voxy: "Feet..? You want the feet, Rarran?"
Gonna quote a comment that seems to have been deleted.
“The video just ends?”
For the record I didn’t delete it, but I think David decided to cut it cuz I didn’t have an end point, we stopped when we felt like it was enough. Tbh I don’t remember, it’s been a while since we recorded this
@@Rarran
Yeah, I know you didn’t delete it, since I saw you responded to it, and that wouldn’t make any sense.
@@Rarran Bad david! The end point is the end of the draft!
@@RarranCan we get the rest of this on your second channel? Maybe even just unedited, I want to see the discussion of the rest of the cards.
@@Rarran I'm not lying when I say I would watch an 8 hour vod of this kind of content
Early mesa falcon gets the worm
Rerren slipped and revealed his inner thoughts when he said "sunFURRY champion". We caught him boys. 25:21
We all know how he feels about Aya. And at 29:53 he talks about how “fine” he finds the pandaren importer.
I genuinely do hope that you continue this, as it's genuinely such a fun format!
I love how in every video, he explicitly clarifies right away that as a Magic player, he knows minions in Hearthstone aren't spells 😂
and that he plays mesa falcon
I haven't played hearthstone in so long but I really enjoy those videos with CGB.
His analysis is really interesting and hilarious at times. Rarran explaining what makes a card good is really great for someone like me who hasn't played this game in a very long time.
Overall always a treat to see one of those videos, please keep making more like this!
pandaren importer was busted for a bit in standard, I believe in rogue? Specifically in 1st expansion post rotation. Because you could completely fill the rogue's deck with spells, since the available card pool was so small, you could reliably get things like shadow step off it in order to go infinite
Yep, it was a one card infinite combo that did nothing in isolation, but could be used to fuel other cards' abilities.
As usual the real culprit was Brann Bronzebeard. The combo was Brann + Importer + Fogsail Freebooter. Importer always gives two shadowsteps and freebooter deals four damage when you had a weapon equipped and Brann was on the board.
@@angelalawter2663 if knife juggler was in rotation it would also work. The importer is clearly the broken card here
The ceiling on Commander Sivara is higher than Flint Firearm. Getting 3 spells that you've already cast is better than draw 3 or even draw 3 spells, because you are getting back spells that are important enough that you've already played them, meaning you are getting 3 really good cards, on average. There are 2 problems with it's use case though: 1 if you draw it too late and cannot meet the requirement of playing 3 cards, or if your hand is already full, it's effectively a dead card for several turns; however, if you are drawing Sivara too late, chances are you've stabilized and its ok if it just sits for a little. 2, and actually more detrimental to the card's value is if you draw it too early. If drawn too early, the spells you are getting back are more likely to be ok early game spells, that you are less likely to want to get an extra copy of, in comparison to the your bigger spells which will either win you the game, or stabilize you. You almost never want Sivara in your opening hand, but sometimes you get an unlucky early draw.
Flint Firearm is generally good. It's a great filler card, because it's good on it's own merit, but it's also early in the rotation right now, and I can't see it holding it's value after the next expansion is added, and more cards are in the format. It is more likely than not to be powerful if played late, and in some situations can win you matchups which you otherwise would lose, but this is more rare.
Overall, the ceiling is higher on Sivara, which saw play in several mage decks, not just Naga Mage (also several variations of high level/legend variations of mage decks). And was usually very strong in control matchups, because it gives you three cards that you really want, and allows you to do thing which you otherwise would not be able to do in the mage class. It's marginal, but Sivara is the better card, even though Flint Firearm is generally good (however, it's not as generally good as, for example, Astalor).
Savara was kept in a lot of mages during its time. Getting extra cold cases, solid alibis, cheap burn, etc was insane and heavily played overall just to get the cards back much less naga mage
Rarran out here trying to help give a hint and gets accused of gaslighting smfh 😂 love these.
Pandaren importer was such a great card for a long time, I even still remember when it had the combo with rogue to always discover shadowstep, thus being able to play a lot of cards per turn and getting insane value from cards that benefited from it
I understand that Rarran isn't a wild gamer, but Fogsail Freebooter saw play in the most oppressive deck in wild (questline pirate warrior) for the longest time, whereas Whelp Wrangler sees play only in Zarimi decks in standard.
Cool vid btw, I really enjoy watching these CGB collabs here and on his channel.
Rarrán's schedule is non existent.
29:52 "She looks fine right? No? Okay..."
-Rarran talking about Pandaren Importer
This was an awesome format! I'd love to see more of this.
Honestly, I love that your repertoire of guests has expanded so much beyond HS. I know Covert has been on before, but Its great to see you interacting with so many other card players, not being stuck in just HS. It speaks volumns about who you are as a person.
Keep the great content coming!
This deserves a part 2
Tainted remnant is actually crazy. Playing it on 4 is crazy and you can split it for even more value
Rarran is the master of the Arena, all he gets is 12 wins because of an ancient bushido code that if he gets anything less he commits sudoku. Can't wait to see him impact his wisdom
time and again i find myself coming to this videos more to just hear rarran explain how a bunch of random cards fit into the game and its history. 10/10 would select from 3 again
I don't think I've ever seen Sunfury Clergy. I can't believe how big of a power creep that is from Earthen Ring Farseer, which was actually a decent card in standard.
I played Mech Paladin back in Boomsday and Gatekeeper was a solid card. I quit HS around the time Descent of Dragons released, so I don't know how good Elemental Allies was, but Gatekeeper had earned spots in multiple viable decks, so I would not say that MesaFalconGuy was incorrect choosing the Gatekeeper
I thought the same thing but was worried I was just being biased against elemental allies since I have so many horrible memories of randomly generating it in decks with no elementals.
i love how he hypes up the elementals and the deck is super strong today
You guys are just awesome together. Always look forward to these videos. Always a good time.
Triplewick Trickster is a really nice card for the upper curve of elemental mage. It really allows you to push disgusting amounts of damage when combined with tainted remnant and fireballs
CGB screaming MY BOIIII for the Ogre is truly a top 5 moment of this channel
And the rets of the vídeo?
I love that CGB just goes to the highest upside on every card possible
You need to show CGB your ogre/shrek rogue video where you played king pud, swung all your rush minions into their minions to pump your attack up to lethal and swung face. Loved that!
Bit late but as someone who just listens to these things, @covertgoblue reading out the cards name, mana, stats and effect is so nice.
This is a really neat way of rating cards! I think it would be cool too if they were rated on the current arena run too!
Rarran CGB collabs are my favourite vids, please keep them coming on both channels!
Faz tanto tempo que eu não jogo arena que,eu não fazia ideia dessa mudança,escolher uma lendária logo no começo para administrar a sua run, parece uma ótima ideia
I think Life sentence would see play right now (if mage didnt suck)
it counters targeted revival strategies and strong deathrarattles
cool way to change the format up, definitely get to see some cards you wouldn't before
CGB, we don't say Rarran forgot to remind you about minions not being spells because we think you can't remember, it's because it is something he very frequently neglects to mention whenever he works with MTG content creators, especially those that aren't familiar with HS.
Troll Centurion saw the most play in Mark's OTK decks. He's probably the only reason it has any playrate.
I personally prefer this type of videos with cards you didn't prepare beforehand. It forces you to also engage in those videos AND it gives us an opportunity to laugh at you @Rarran
Is there a part 2 ? This feels like it cut off suddenly and I was just left hanging
While Flint is probably played more because it's a Nuetral, Commander Sivara definitely saw play for the 2 years it was in standard, not only in Naga mage either.
I get the impression CGB didnt realize singer drew every turn, he made a similar misread in an earlier video and the way he was talking here sounds like that.
I also think he assumed the Whelp wrangler just summons the dragon insteas of adding it to your hand
18:02 Well, this is much more flavorful than existing Honorable kill, while also being not as niche
It would be cool to see one where stats from a decktracker were used instead of general good/bad statement. Of course no single statistic tells the true power of a card alone, but they would still make for an objective number to guess.
This only works for very popular cards, else the statistics are very noisy. Preferably all cards would be from the same meta. Multiple cards from the same deck would also help to build a picture of the meta. One could even show the key cards and win condition of each deck as background information, before the actual cards.
I liked when you talked about how great this idea was and then ended the video early.
Rarran using the legendary reverse gaslighting technique
That Deckhand. I played a lot of Caverns Quest Rogue back in the day.
But how was CGB going to know that the Deckhand is often a 1-mana 5/5 with haste that you can bounce into your hand repeatedly?
bro its like one of the million circumstances where deckhand was good. every second rogue deck played it because it could get buffed with coldblood/7-mana horse/oil from gvg/keleseth/southsea captain and many others. not even talking about him pulling out patches from your deck
8:01 Costumed singer when CTB says the art was obnoxious:
He should hear his voice line when enters the battlefield / draw a secret
Guess whOoOoOoOo? ... SPARKLE! I still hear it in my nightmares
I really like the videos you make together. Keep it going :) Thanks for the content
I love their dynamic
Rarran really should have told CGB that minions are not spells...
Can't believe you didn't mention the otk with pandaren importer in rogue giving you infinite shadow steps when it first came out
Yo.. so this just ends half way? Aww man... Guess I'm going to go have to watch the VOD then!
you should let this man draft a arena deck and maybe play it as well sometime!
Wasn't the Padaren Importer nerft because of the rogue deck that kept bouncing it by having all the spells except shadow step in their deck.
Rarru and CBT back with another banger.
"Minions are not spell" 2 seconds later "Draw spells until your hand is full...does it draw minions?"
Please do a video with cgb where you tell him about nozdormu comboes where you use animations to skip your opponent’s turn. I would love to see his reaction.
28:29 Mech Hunter main back in rise of shadows. Rarran is right, Bronze Gatekeeper was a very meh option in the deck, mostly because it was a 1/5 at the time
Remember that time that sunfury clergy randomly received rush for absolutely no reason that even the devs were confused
Ogre gang outlaw is a great limited card.
Triplewick trickster is in elemental burn mage. Got to diamond 5 last month with it.
Magic dude casually better arena drafter than me. Playing since 2015 lol
I remembered seeing that :o Ogre-Gang Outlaw whooped ass was Awesome 14:09 Hilarious too :D
24:32 Restoring Health is *good* but dealing damage is usually *better*
I really wish you would have cgb draft a deck and then you play it together with him commentating on the game
2,000 views in 16 minutes. Not bad Rarran, keep it up :v
Mesa Falcon Guy has some serious Chillwind Yeti PTSD
Rarran sleep schedule is non-existent
Watching Rarran saying two of the key cards in my 60+% winrate elemental mage deck are shit 👀
Is there a CGB vid where Rarran does a MTGA bot draft?
Funnily enough i think Troll Centurion was a better card since it lasted longer than Trench Surveyor in the Meta since there was Proving Grounds Demon Hunter which ran only 2 Troll Centurions & Had Proving grounds to have em Slam into each other for 16 Dmg to Enemy Hero.
bronze gatekeeper was definitely the best pick there...paladin and hunter went nuts with it
I think covert misunderstood your explanation of Discover. I think he thought Discover ALWAYS does "from your deck" and missed the part where you said it only did that if it said so on the card.
We need more arena content with mesa falcon man!
Less than an hour in and there are already three commenters that skipped the explanation at the start
"magnetic is close to mutate in mtg"
bestow in the corner:
bro got 12 wins one time and now hes spamming vids like hes got a phd in arena draft
?? This not arena evaluation, they are discussing exclusively Standard and are using Arena just to randomize the topics of discussion.
I love when blue is on the channel!
Where’s the rest of the video?
Is the video supposed to have a second part we should wait for or Rarran just randomly cut it short?
fogsail and deckhand went in the same deck most of the time if you make one good you really need to make the other because pirate rogue has been a menace with both those cards for years even warrior jumped in sometimes
wait am i missing something here, why was southsea deckhand picked as a mage???
n the first 10 seconds of the video, pick the best card in standard
@@Rarran oh true, my bad.
Rarran the type of guy to forget to post this
Rarran: Fogsail Freeboter wasnt part of a T1 deck.
Every Pirate Warrior or Pirate Rogue deck ever: Am i a joke to you?
Why didn't Rarran mention Patches the Pirate when explaining why southsea deckhand was good
And then it just sort of ends...
Where's the rest tho? :D Who does an incomplete deck picking?!
I'm not sure if CGB knew that for whelp wrangler the "get" was generate a welp token to hand. To me that card always read poorly and as it spawns a whelp on board
This is a really smart idea! It's infinite content too, wtf...
Bronze Gatekeeper is kinda misleading because it used to have only 1 attack back in the day. If it had been a 2/5 at the time, it would have been extremely good and played way more than it was at the time!
