Use of an air ratchet speeds the process up.The newer drive belts,a special tool you can get for free from Gates and Dayco. The newer drive belts are made from a new material that does not crack. The most expensive fix is a Subaru when the timing belt breaks,$3,000.00 and the valves clash when the timing belt breaks
You can tell if the timing belt is good or bad if the teeth is seeping through the belt on the timing pulleys then it's time for a new belt and if you don't change it now and it's going to eventually break and then destroy the engine, "possibly".
What happened to replacing the timing belt. Somebody gonna look at this, swap the belt and find out the timing is all wrong cus the camshaft moved. Just like autozone yep that's the one when it really isnt.
i got a reno clio 52 reg its done 82000 and no indication its had one done supposed to be done at 72000 ill be doing 4000 is there much point as i dont have £200 to throw at it
My car has 62,000 miles and Honda wants to charge me $2,200 to replace the timing belt - too involved just to look, if they take all those parts apart they want to changed the belt and the water pump.
Only a *few* things wrong with this instruction: 1. Removing the battery terminal on vehicles with Theft Lock radios will cause them to go into lock mode. You need a code punched into the radio buttons to re-activate it. And you have to go pay at the dealership to get the code. 2. "Interference engine" - A snapped timing belte or error installing it will cause the valves to slam into the pistons - game over. 3. Remove fan? Madness. 4. Remove crankshaft pulley? Yikes! Bad design. Piece of crap.
Always replace cam, crank and internediate seals. Always wear gloves (doesn't autozone sell gloves) don't wear ANY jewelry (especially that pesky wedding band) Never use autozone tools they explode. Get Craftsman at least. Never buy autozone parts when doing timing belt. Get them from the dealer OEM or Autohausaz Always extremely degrease your engine and clean all parts thouroughly. Autozone.... Because you really don't give a fuck about your car....
Replace the belt. As it gets loose, it might have skipped a few teeth. You will probably need to take the cylinder-head for repairs as you might have a couple of burnt valves especially if you have high milage. However from the burnt valves, your engine would still start, however not develop power. The last guess would be the rings.
great video! I just did my 01 Isuzu rodeo V6 3.2 L timing belt for the first time @143K believe it or not. and the thing looked brand new still! I did the belt, pump and tension idler. the seals looked great so I let them ride. was very impressed with the condition of the belt after 143K.
Im really want to mine. But i have jetta 02 its gonna take some patience slipping in there. And removing everything. Im at 145000. So i want to replace it sooner the better
I have a chev optra the belt is long over due for replacement the vehicle recently died there is like no compression when cranking the engine over I thought the timing belt broke but no still intact and seems tight any ideas
“How to replace your timing belt”. Doesn’t replace timing belt. But after watching this video, I know the answer: forget about doing that shot yourself and save $1,000 or so to have a mechanic replace it or you’ll never get the fricken thing running again.
first off don't buy a car with an interference engine, pos that ruins the engine when timing belt breaks,my ford you just run it until belt breaks, usually about 130000 miles, have aaa tow you home and put in a new 30 dollar belt and replace the water pump, and you are good to go,not a big deal,so simpleand you don't need a new engine.
why did auto zone start selling rustoleum. nobody I know uses rustoleum for autobody. now I go to a local business for primer and everything else. there's no point in going to a store selling rustoleum as an automotive body working material. good video though.Thanks.
Better replace that water pump or the engine will be destroyed. Gee thanks. Whatever happened to user friendly? Douche bag engines. Destoying themselves and shit
4:38 - The timing belt is supposed to be like that with slack. This guy gives bad name to real Auto Techs. 5:10 - The title says Inspecting the Timing Belt and at no point does he inspect it. If anything, he says you cant inspect it. Sorry, wrong again. Someone should take this video down.
The reason most engines get destroyed by timing belt failures is because it can cost anywhere from $800 to $1500 to get a timing belt replaced without damage. Most people don’t think about the cost of that when they buy a car so when they ask how much one will cost to replace, they figure they’ll just risk it and drive it hoping the belt will never fail. Timing belts ALWAYS fail eventually. If you can’t afford to maintain a car, take the bus.
Over the years the few times I walked into Auto Zone I walked out feeling like I had been shafted. I find it interesting that so many people here share my opinion of the place.
Umm ook did i miss the part where you replace the timing belt.
Me too brother- this video blows
The first step is to get in the zone

You can tell if the timing belt is good or bad if the teeth is seeping through the belt on the timing pulleys then it's time for a new belt and if you don't change it now and it's going to eventually break and then destroy the engine, "possibly".
but what if my car is yellow tho ?? need help asap
Lol, autozone be like “we’re going to have to rebuild the block to replace the timing belt.”
Skipped something here, video not helpful... How do you set your new timing belt??? Viewers want to see that important part.
The slack in between the cam gears doesn't mean the belt is bad or loose. It just depends where the engine stops when in it's duration.
Where's the new belt then????
i just wasted 7.52 minutes of my life watching this rubbish.
I found this video incomplete. Where is the section of refitting?
i have a 1995 mits/pajero need to repair timing chain+waterpump .question how to remove &install the new parts.whats steps do i need to do this?

Bad parts?
So it would seem that all you have to do is take of covers and the belt will change itself, amazing.
Lmao!!! that's auto zone for you!!
Replace the belt. As it gets loose, it might have skipped a few teeth.

Contrary to most comments below, this helped me, as soon as the parts get here, this is exactly what I am doing, to the same vehicle and engine type.
Haha ain't that the truth. All Autozone's and even O'Reilly's here in Dallas have horrible employees.
