Excellent video. I was a German car mechanic in the states for 32 years. I now live in a small fishing village in Ecuador. I did this with basic hand tools in the street in front of my house. Took me 40 minutes. Your tips were a great help. Looking for your timing belt light reset video now, Thank you!
Thanks for video guys. Did my timing belt yesterday, but somehow the bolt on tension pulley stripped. I took it off to check it and put back ok, but found putting tensioner back on awkward so took pulley back off to put on last. Bolt won’t go in straight and gets tight, ater couple of threads. Can only think I overtightened but honestly hadn’t turned it that tight because was yet to torque. Anyway may make good topic as looks like I’m going to have to put heli coil in which means removing radiator to drill etc. Thanks for all your videos really helpful for the home mechanic.
Thanks. I was stuck on that last wiggle on belt trick, didn’t know just a few squeezes and it would get on. Then to watch and find out the lines on the belt didn’t have to line up, solved my last two problems. Whew.
Oh, for god's sake... all you have to do is, after aligning the marks (before taking the old belt off), is to then turn the top sprocket 1/4 to 1/2 a tooth towards to the fuel pump drive sprocket before fitting the new belt, and the belt just slides right on easily, without all the melodrama.
Forgive my ignorance, the fuel pump I know is in the gas tank, so are you talking about a high pressure pump in the fuel rail for the injectors? If so, is that pump run by the camshaft pulley? Car repair is new to me. I'll have yet to digest what you've suggested!
@@fawzisdudah8511 He's talking about the distributor-type injection pump which is distinct from a high pressure fuel pump used with a common-rail diesel or gasoline direct injection.
Have you ever seen a sized waterpump on a prado or hilux 2005-2015 ? About to change my serpetine belt and timing belt with new tensioner. Only done 160 k and was changed eith waterpump at 112k but is overdue on time. But I was thinking it is overkil to change the pump as im checking my coolant and everything ones every 14 days at least and no leaking so far. Any thoughts. I only use genuine parts from local dealer and the shory answer is "yes of course change the pump as well" but was thinking it should hold for next timingbelt change at 220 with valve check
If you put the bottom on in the correct spot you simply rotate the cam back a bees proverbial and push the belt on. There's nothing to be gained by fighting the belt on because it's tight.
I inherited a hiace with this engine…. Timing belt is off and timing marks are not lined up….. do I just spin the cam gear and other gear until the timing marks are lined up?
Thats what I thought! Mine is LAnd Rover Defender and it sounds more complicated as it says looses the bolt holding injector pump!? I do`nt know why I need to do that. I could simply replace it and done with it. Maybe adjusting injector pump timing to the new belt...? not sure...
If you look closely you'll see that both belt sprockets are the same size and that neither sprocket are mounted to the crank. The driving sprocket is on the injection pump which is turned at half crankshaft speed by the gear train. Keep turning the engine and the lines will eventually match up with the fixed marks again regardless.

Excellent video; 10/10 commentary
Thanks for your videos, I work in I.T. but feel like I’m a Prado expert after watching all your videos over the years :)
Very helpful!
I followed your instructions and it work perfectly.
The Dayco belts dont have the lines.
What would you recommend you do?
Count the teeth on the old belt and mark your own lines?
Wow, engine shiny and clean...
Definitely the best video I've seen on fitting a cambelt correctly.
Cheers mate about to do this on my Toyota hiace lol
Do you replace the tensioner each time or is it case by case?
Bfe
How do you align the Marks before removing the old belt?
using a 22m on the crank bolt, the cam shaft is a 1:2 gear ratio, so you have to move the crank 2 times to be in the same cam spot

Correct 😁😂

Just wanna know that 1kd is an interference engine or non-interference engine?
thanks mate. good video. love ur work!
How can I get the pulley
What type of Toyota Prado are you getting

It's informative

Appreciate your post is 6 months old but yes that's exactly what you do 👍🏻
A bit late but. DO NOT turn the crank with the timing belt removed! Put it back on first.
Love you❤

N thats all you have to do to drive the hilux after mate?
The marks don’t line up because the cam moves at half engine speed so the engine needs 2 rotations to line up marks again.

Timing belt for compass 2020 make
It wouldnt have hurt to explain why the timing mark on the belt didnt line up after turning the engine over with the 22mm socket.
am thinking the same here ??
1 dislike, must be a Nissan bloke 😂
Maxene merilen
baffled how timing belt mark didnt line up after turning the crank !!:???
