    No one should apply plaster to their face. Ever! There is non toxic alginates available. There is Also brush on Dragon skin silicone product. Reynolds carries products for life casting. There are also products from Smooth-on. If you use a silicone life cast material, you can't use a latex bald cap. The silicone won't bond and dry properly. This is a good starters video though. Plaster heats up very quickly with most brands and can cause skin burns. Also before using liquid latex, test if you are allergic to latex. Put a small quarter sized amount where your elbows and knees bend. It's delicate soft skin and is usually an area that gets moist or sweats slightly. If any redness or even mild itching occurs peel it off and don't use any latex products.

      Burns are only a concern if used with hot water. Use with cool/cold water and it’s perfectly fine. They use plaster strips to make body casts, it’s not dangerous if used correctly

    • @Bkmkarloff365
      @Bkmkarloff365 12 дней назад

      @@wallace5081 plaster gauze strips are used to strengthen alginate and silicone life castings they are used to make a solid ridgid frame work. Whether you are using alginate or silicone the molds would be thin and floppy without a plaster outer shell. Most castings are two part molds except hand , foot or face cast. I don't know anybody that would use hot water for pre made plaster gauze strips or their own mix to dip gauze strips, professionally or well versed amateurs. Room temperature water is the basic. Even a cast for a fractured body part medically has a soft lining under the plaster cast. If plaster is used over the skin it wouldn't pick up details in the skin such as large skin pores or small scars or the print of skin such as lip texture and the print on hands and fingers. Plaster will definitely cause serious skin irritation or first degree burns. It's not like concrete that you can get on your skin and wipe off. Plaster, It's direct contact for a period of time. That in most cases is a heavy skin irritant. If you've seen anybody use plaster strips for a life cast, they are well below amateur status. I do this part time and a hobby mostly. I was self taught but spoke with people who do this professionally. Professionals take a cosmetology coarse and obtain their license. It's not just for beauty makeup but you use it to know what kind of makeup, special effects application makeup and so you are educated in what not to use on a human subjects skin. Not using plaster, which contains lime, is not for life castings on another human beings skin. Liquid latex for cosmetic makeup of any kind is horrible as far as skin reaction. Especially when the skin sweats under it. Also casting latex is a hard no for skin contact. Older versions of alginate can be used but professionals have been using newer created alginates. They've moved away from the older formula. Most have gone to application silicone for life casting and prosthetics. It's low odor and skin safe. When I self taught, I used professional grade back in the 80s. Then I took courses. There wasn't RUclips videos or anything video self taught videos. I don't recommend you tube videos for learning unless the proper products and safety are included. For people interested in the special effects and want to learn correctly and are serious whether for hobby or wanting to learn for employment I highly recommend Stan Winstons school for character arts on the web. Get a subscription. You can do just one month and there are videos on every subject and are instructional. Life casting, prop making, how to make different types of blood. The top people in the industry are on it. I wish this was available when I was just a horror geek in highschool in 1986.

      @@Bkmkarloff365 It will not cause severe burns nor is it guaranteed to cause skin irritation unless one is allergic to its ingredients. I found medical articles explicitly mentioning that the burns are due to using the wrong water temperature when applying the plaster. You can look it up yourself. Water has a very high heat capacity, and using lots of cold water will effectively neutralize any heat produced in the exothermic reaction from the plaster setting.
