    Michael buddy! It worked! I found my "guatamala" pen too...kinda. I found a thinner tube although it was still too thick. I warmed up the top of the tube for a bit, then carefully widened the opening with a pen (yes, a pen again..). Cooled it off, slowly moved it in clockwise in my MBP, pulled that evil thing out and finally aggressively enforced my wife and kids to witness my happy dance. They had no idea what happened.

      Micheal, thank you so much!!! Your "Guatemala pen fix" is the best. I watched several Superglue videos first but really didn't want to go there. I'd backed up my computer and was ready to bite the bullet and take it to a shop. But after a short break a little voice encouraged me to try your advice first. It worked. Bless you! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Seriously I went to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store and they said they did not have a tool that would fit to remove, ipad was out of warranty and do I want to purchase a new ipad or bluetooth speaker. I said no thank you. The next day I went on youtube and followed Michael's video.

    I ever so slightly bent a thick needle & heated up the tip & using a tool to grip it, I safely stuck the needle a few centimeters into the center of the jack which is made of plastic & then I let it dry for about 3 minutes before using the tool to slowly & safely pull it out.
    As long as the hot needle tip doesnt touch the plastic outer ring of the female port & only touches the center of the male jack, this method works PERFECTLY on the first try. I recommend attempting to safely put the needle in place first a few times for practice as to avoid having shaky fingers when you finally do it while its hot.
    Make sure you have plenty of light & dont stick the needle in too deep but just a few centimeters so that you are sure its in there & dont forget to leave it in place to dry for a minute or so as that allows the plastic to cool & grab onto the metal needle. A skinny nail works too & bending it may not be needed but just helps(the slightest bend..where you can barely notice it).

    There are literally millions of people searching for a solution to this problem. How absurd that the cables come apart so easily!
    Anyway, I tried your pen method in my car aux socket, and somehow managed to push the broken tip even further inside. I have a feeling that it may have gone out the back ( if that's possible ). Anyway - the socket now works again! My question is whether the broken tip can be forgotten, or can it cause any damage?
    I think the pen was the right size, but I guess I pushed too hard when I felt that it had gripped something. It didn't occur to me that the tip could go even further in, or out the other side.
    Perhaps this is the case in a car, but not the case with a laptop?
    Bloody frustrating problem. I am not buying cheap cables from now on!
    Thanks for taking the time to make the video, and sharing your elation!

      wow. out the other end. haven't heard that before. yes probably right... must be different for your auxiliary compared to laptop or other devices.. but im not sure if having it pushed through will cause extra damage. good to hear it still works. Cheers

      It turns out that the aux/usb in the car ( a Kia Rio ) is an isolated component ( see link ) , and so the broken tip can't go too far. Let's hope it doesn't rattle!

    So, a big question here is, what kind of pen do you mean when you say a Guatemalan pen? Can you be more specific? Brand name? Where to get one online? And what size is the tube on the inside of that pen? If we knew that, maybe we could find a pen with a tube the same diameter somewhere. Thanks. My tip is still stuck. :(

    • @michaeljamesmartin
      @michaeljamesmartin  6 лет назад +1

      hey! yeah great suggestion. what I ment was it was from Guatemala...meaning it isn't something we got locally. I don't have the pen anymore so can't measure the diameter but my suggestion would be to take the pen your currently using and if it's too wide in diameter compare it against others at a stationary store ... or if the device that is jammed is portable I would suggest taking that to the stationary store ..ie laptop phone ect and do it there. Good luck

      michaeljamesmartin Thanks! Yeh, nothing has worked so far. We've tried everything we've seen on here, and no luck. I've even tried looking down into the hole with the light from my iPhone, but I can't see anything in there to even see how big it is . And, I already threw the other part away. It was an extender cable I put on my headphones. It gave me 12 ft or so, and I was plugging it into a speaker box for the tv. It would work if I plugged the headphones back in, but when I pulled them back out, no sound. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Then I noticed the tip was broken off. We're about to give up.
