Tnx Melissa you look like my Dutch Eurasian grandmother when she was a young lady in Indonesia. We mixed a lot between Eurasians. Having French German Dutch Portuguese ancestry on the European side.

Thanks so much for this documentary. I became interested in the Kristang community because they keep on saying they have European blood but it does not show on their physical appearance. And somehow, this documentary was able to explain it.

    Its Debal Curry.
Throw in red chillie, and more of it, and more, and use bird eye chillies, and till it exceed 100,000 SHU and it became Devil's Curry.
The spice level of a chili pepper is measured in Scoville Heat Units (SHU) on the Scoville scale:
    Mild: 100-2,500 SHU
    Medium: 2,500-30,000 SHU
    Hot: 30,000-100,000 SHU
    Extra hot: 100,000-300,000 SHU
    Extremely hot: Above 300,000 SHU

The name Aroozo, could it be a corruption of the Portuguese name Araújo?

that is correct. It comes from the surname Araujo. :)

Diabo is Portuguese for Devil. I would hazard a guess that it may have gotten corrupted through the years, perhaps with English to arrive at Debal. After all, in those days, children of mixed races did not have the same opportunities as those born to non mixed race families, hence the adulteration in the languished and pronunciation.
Just my two cents worth. 😊

Americans 🇺🇸 would prefer Indian spice or Japanese raw fish
    than oily unhealthy Chinese foods.
