  • Singaporean author Melissa De Silva goes to Malacca and Goa, where her ancestors hail from, to discover more about the roots of Eurasian culture and identity. She wants to learn about the origins of Curry Debal (also known as Curry Devil), a quintessential Eurasian dish. By figuring out how the cuisine of the Eurasians travelled from Europe to Asia and evolved, she learns more about a parallel story of colonial migration and understands who the Eurasians are, how they came to be.

Tnx Melissa you look like my Dutch Eurasian grandmother when she was a young lady in Indonesia. We mixed a lot between Eurasians. Having French German Dutch Portuguese ancestry on the European side.

Diabo is Portuguese for Devil. I would hazard a guess that it may have gotten corrupted through the years, perhaps with English to arrive at Debal. After all, in those days, children of mixed races did not have the same opportunities as those born to non mixed race families, hence the adulteration in the languished and pronunciation.
Just my two cents worth. 😊

The name Aroozo, could it be a corruption of the Portuguese name Araújo?

Americans 🇺🇸 would prefer Indian spice or Japanese raw fish
    than oily unhealthy Chinese foods.
