That 91 old lady is so adorable. She's hardworking, funny, kind and most of all her passion for her work is just amazing. I feel bad for myself being 20 and lying around all day on days off work. Should get up and do more lah 😂
All of these cuisines are world class. Perfection in simplicity, on the plates. Nothing in Singapore taste bad. Only if your palate cannot handle the adventure which is a shame in the best good food loving country in the world.
Thank you CNA for digging deep within each of these episodes, fleshing out the personal and inspirational stories from these hawkers. The Singapore hawker culture is such a precious heritage and one that hopefully continues to thrive. But even if it doesn't in 50 years time, we at least have these videos that document the lives and struggles of the heroes that run our hawker stalls! More of such quality and insightful videos please! 😁
Amazing people. They make me miss Singapore. It's not the food that makes me go back per se, but the people who give Singapore its soul. They make overseas Singaporeans want to stay connected and stay open to the future. I came here coz I read that Mdm Leong had to close and the landlord was part of the decision. That was my fav wanton mee shop, never short of customers. More needs to be invested into these people and creating an environment in which they can/will thrive. If Singaporeans can become more open to one another and what makes our culture priceless, we'd gradually understand how to fit things together and make better solutions available to everyone.
Watching this.... I'm informed. I'm nostalgic. I'm moved. To me, this series - and I mean both seasons 1 and 2 - is on par or better than other food series like Chef's table and Ugly Delicious. This documentary series must continue. I'm sure there are more stories to tell.
Love Madam Leong spirit!! actually i love all of them, inspiring and I feel for them so much, I hope they are doing well in these hard times. I miss Singapore so much, the people, the food especially those that you can find at hawkers centres.
Ahaha that ol' lade drinking coffee and dark beer. What a legend. The most endearing part was the classic granny metal-cookie-box that all old people seem to have.
mdm wanton mee , reminds me of my grandma, her hair and attire even down to the jade bangle, she represents the side of Singapore that i've long forgotten ..... she is a treasure!
🙂 One of my favorite things about my travels to Singapore and Malaysia were the street food hawkers. Use to go out in a group and have the steamboats (which I suppose is basically yum cha)
So endearing... #01-26 aunty Lachmi so beautiful & gracious. Can imagine her beautiful in sari n makeup. She's so well spoken and credos to her tenacity. Will go try her apam! Her son also cute la, typical can come across rude but is not. So endearing
Well i actually never ate indian food before as an indian because my family living in us for more than a hundred years and all because my grandfather forgot about the indian food so im eating sandwiches and cereal and sometimes cookies including many other american cuisine
Omg, I love the Madam Leong's energy, reminds me of my grandpa and grandma. Yes pls continue her legacy. I am thinking of starting a kopitiam business too just that not sure where to start. Kopitiam and local Street Food is the spirit and root of our calture. Be Proud of it
I went back to Swatow and Xiamen, no joke of all things they brought back Satay beehoon. I see that auntie selling vadai, Chinese don't know how eat also will figure out.

Singaporean hawker food is the best! You can get a meal for less than $5, a very good meal in fact. I hope the vendors survive this pandemic 🙏🏻

The first lady cooking makes me craving.... Yum yum!
Nothing but respect for Mdm Leong. A can do attitude, and family first all the way.

Madame is awesome and it's so nice of her son to help! She looks great and makes running a hawker stand look so easy!
It is really nice watch this. Keep these sorts of documentaries. Truly fulfilling
Grandma 👵, you are a super strong woman.. be always healthy

I was smiling when I heard the grandma speak Mandarin.
9:58 "Hello auntie, morning! You see who follow me. Camera follow me."
*Shocked breakfast Pikachu face*
🤣
Wow, the Indian lady doesn’t look old enough to be his mum. Looks young still
most likely parents arranged marriage at an early age
Right? She looks fabulous for 58.
Thought they’re husband and wife
Driven here by CNA article that Nam Seng closed down. Met that chatty auntie October last year, never thought she was that old.
Those hawker stands are so much cleaner than you'd typically find in SEA and South Asia
願梁婆婆安息, 多謝你啲雲吞麵 🙏 RIP Mdm Leong
I think Mdm Leong is still alive?

Singapore is rich country of diversity food
Malaysia has even more options due to its side, plus the Dutch, Portuguese, the indigenous people who all influence the food

The indian lady who made apom appeared to be very young. My first guess was 40 years of age. I was quite surprised when she said she was 58.
He spoke Singaporean English without traces of Indian accent.
