Dude,sorry for off-topic,but did you know that certain weapon or armor raxes have their limited pool of items they can drop? I mean if you want some base for RW, you can abuse it.
Can't believe I watch these. I played this game so much that I simply burnt out. I'd log in and stand there staring at the screen for 15 minutes, then I'd log out. Still though, 1 of the best games I ever, ever, ever, played. Great video's by the way, brings back fond memories.
I never thought I'd find a high rune in single player until I found a jah and a vex within about 5 seconds of each other, literally within maybe 10-12 monster kills lol. I hadn't even picked the first one up before the next dropped.
I got a Ber like 1 month ago when I was farming countess... it dropped from a champion pack in level 4 of the tower. I was really surprised since I thought maximum rune you could get in this area is Lo. So the teaching is, kill every champion in your way.

@@NathanPsprague pretty much You offer a rush service and ask for quest reward as a payment or a SOJ (when SOJ was cheap) You can ask for runes or other items as barter material for high runes
@@zacktrever1878 Zod absolutely does not drop from the hellforge quest. The highest rune that can drop from the forge is Gul. Perhaps you can saw one trigger from a mob drop but I'm not even sure the monsters in that area are capable of dropping them.
Pulled a SUR from one of the mobs around Shenk in hell the other day :) I support the simple "mass farming" idea. I think its the most fun and easiest way to get them
Dry spells indeed. First 1000 lk runs gave me 2 sur, 1 vex and like 7 gul. Next 2000 runs has only gotten me 2 isty runes :( Desperately trying to finish my exile + grief. Anyway, awesome content as always DB, you're an inspiration to the d2-community :)
Took me just shy of 3200 LK runs to get my first HR (HR being Vex+), which was a Sur. I haven't heard of anybody else having the kind of bad luck with LK that I have. I did find like 5 or more Mal runes, and many Pul, Lem, a few Gul, etc., but the really coveted ones... One in ~3200 runs.
One trick that I've learned about farming runes is that regardless of the nodrop rate, a better source of finding runes in general is by farming monsters which CANNOT drop a piece of armor -- such as Finger Mages, Ghosts, Spirits and the like. This is a reason why the Arcane Sanctuary is a good source for runes: you will always have Ghosts in there.
Yesterday I started playing d2 again after 7 month break. I did like 20 ancient tunnel runs.. and suddenly unique Corona drops! (my first ever!) Crown of ages ofcourse and it had 26 ar / 13% dr / 1 socket :( not the best rolls.. but still nice that I find it finally :D
@@TheRaiko777 No... what makes D2 great is the old-school rendered graphs, the open trading, the elective mode, the crafting, the charms, the runewords, the good pvp, the 8 ppl in a game, the channels and clans, the dark ambient, etc.
Cool. Good topic. I'd like to mention that if you're farming for high runes specifically, that's also a good time to farm for Eth gear for merc. Take off your magic find (to increase Eth drop chance) and kill big packs. I wish I had thought of this while farming my Bers for Infinity...now I have the runes but no Eth Thresher to socket them into!

#1 LK is the best for single player, but mind numbing #2 Travincal, especially for hork barb #3 Cows, since their chance to drop any rune is 50% higher. #4 Wraiths: around 3.2x more on p1, 3.5x on p5, around 3.7x on p7 #5 clear mass monsters: around 2x less effective than Cows
@@MatiKosa pretty sure cows experience gained and gear drop and along with high runes was heavily nerfed to the ground. In the latest patch which the game plays on for remastered.
@@MatiKosa I've played the game for 20 years and the best way to farm HRs is to gank them from public runs of 8 players. With all my experience, I cannot recommend anyone to farm LK and Trav. They look good on paper, but realistically 95% of us cannot run them efficiently enough to make it worth while. With that said, focus on Act bosses, mini bosses, and just clear ghosts and finger mages. I recently found a Sur from Andariel, Jah from Diablo, and a Vex from finger mages in River of Flame. I've put a lot of effort of 2 weeks into Trav on my horker, and I feel like I could have had 2 HRs in my pocket if I hadn't wasted my time there.

Your method isn't great, because regular monsters don't drop runes often, so lowering their NoDrop by a slightly higher amount won't net you many more runes. But even if: imagine a Ber drops. Now I am asking you: what now? Who is gonna take that rune? Maybe someone will even steal it. I'm sorry but that is just not a solution. LK is the winner, then Trav. But you need to know how to run Trav efficiently. The fact that you or 95% of players can't do it well enough doesn't change the fact it is almost the best method. Also, you said 2 weeks. Doesn't matter if it was 2 weeks or 2 years. Queston is: how many runs did you do? I bet not more than 400-500. 200-300 is what I would do per session. Did 3500 in total. HRs were flying.
Dbrunski's guide about Lower Curast rune farming is the best I've seen so far. I did maybe a 1000 runs, brought me enough runes to make HoTO, Delirium, Sanctuary, Call to Arms. The highest I found was Sur. Took me around 10-15 tries to set location right
i love diablo 2 content its so nostalgic i used to rush people for hell forge and half the time they would just leave the game but you make some friends you can trust along the way.

You kept it snappy with referring to your previously made guides etc. I liked the fact, that you included something just because someone would mention it in the comments about you not mentioning it... It doesn't really account for *that* big of a difference, but part of the reason you have more Jahs than Bers is because Ber is actually more rare to drop than Jah. Even though Jah is technically higher up the rune tier list.
I know that Hell Mephisto doesn't drop many runes, but he has the capability to do at least a Jah rune- which was my first Jah rune I got ever, off Mephisto.
Hope springs eternal they say. :) In all the years of playing (single player mind you) I was only able to find runes up to LO in the wild, but your video proves that higher stuff can still be found sometime. :) Incidentally I like to farm the 3 Kurast locations; it was there and in the 6 small underground temples below these that I was able to find the best stuff (like LO and OHM).
Bug seal in chaos sanctuary should have been included in this video. In my experience it can compete with LK and is the best way to farm high runes in my opinion.
frontliner2 basically you clear all 3 superuniques, pop only 4 seals, then teleport back to entrance of CS and then as fast as you can while passing as many mobs as you can, get to the last seal and pop it. Everything will die but anything on screen 6 seconds or less before you popped the seal has a chance to drop something(as if you had 0 mf though). So good way to get bases or high runes
You should mention when killing ghosts in Arcane that if they drop off the path they wont drop anything. It's basic knowledge and people avoid farming them there for this reason.
@@jetttor In arcane sanctuary ghosts can beeline between the narrow pathways that's why it's way more common that they are over empty space. While you are farming time per run matters and you don't have time for them to float over safe land. While on other maps walls and generally larger areas prevent them from flying over such places. In Chaos it can happen with the Doom Caster mobs but even there it's way less common.
I’ve had luck there with a Bowa when I just pulled back a little. The specters follow and you can catch them over paths. I stack organic damage runes and a merc with a simple insight
Hey, DB! I've got a question: is it better to run, say, Kurast only 1000 times, or a long route (Crypt?, Countess?, Andariel?, AT, Kurast, Mephisto, Pindle), say, 100 times?
LK isn't worth it as part of a long route. The goal there is to have super-fast runs (~30 seconds or lower from start game to save & exit), so that you can do thousands of runs quickly. 1000 runs often won't net you anything but gems and a couple of mid runes, 100 is nothing ... you need to do multiples of thousands to reasonably expect results.

When I played this game a lot I did the following in bnet, which I never heard from other players: I had a Classic Sorc and rushed 3 other charakters to Hell Act4 (self rush, had 4 instances of Diablo open in Sandbox), to avoid the lvl20 & lvl40 LOD limitations for nightmare and hell pass. Afterwards I converted the characters to LOD. I think Hell Act4 conversion to LOD will degredade your old Classic charakter to Hell Act1 or Act2. So I finished the Hellforge quest with this characters in Hell and erased them. This was done by rushing myself. Basically you can generate many runes in "short" time.
what do you think about running the chests in durance of hate levels 1 and 2? There's like 200 chests there, although I don't think there's any superchests
maybe you could explain how runes work in general? it still is very specific in this video… so… - what are “high runes” from which level? - what runes drop on normal, nm, hell? - is connected to the character level? - why you get “eld” when farming countess on nightmare 2p? - is there a bell curve for distribution or an exponential decline? … thx man!
hell is the only difficulty where high runes commonly drop. You can on _very_ rare occasion find them in NM, but that's about it really. Anything from Mal - Zod is considered a high rune.
and your character level has no influence on which runes drop. The chance of rune drops is determined by the level of the area you are in, the difficulty you are playing in, and the level of the monster you are killing.
Hi Mr Dbrunski, I hv found a Lo and wire fleece 4os with 435 def, consider I playing single player, should I just make fortitude or keep farm a better base? Been thought that it could be a long journey, so wonder this wire fleecr is good enough, or not?

hey man I'm loving ur content. just picked up d2 again for the first time in 12 years. maybe u could help me understand something: I was doing a hell meph run, and i ran into diablo in the DOH lvl 3... is this some new thing I'm unaware of? or is it just a bug or glitch? cuz he seems nearly unkillable
Would you recommend opening up chests, rocks etc in the cow level, or just kill cows? I've had HR's drop from chests before, but do you think it slows down runes per hour?
Scott sattler i find looting everything in cow level to be worth it. Rocks & whatnot seem to drop alot of small/grand charms among other things in my experience

Good stuff dude. My cousin convinced me to download plugy and been playing for about a month now. It has been very fun getting back into d2. Cold sorc moat trick for my starter items and LK and ancient tunnels for my hrs. I've gotten vex, ohm x2, ber and sur so far. Been enjoying your content, you got yourself a new subscriber.
There's one more thing worth mentioning about the Arcane Sanctuary - superchests! They probably don't have the same patterns as the LK ones, but they surely do share some. At each of the 3 false ends, there's 3 superchests to pop, making 9 in total. Combine this with the ghosts and it's a decent incentive for rune farming. Not as boring as LK, not as dangerous as Travincal and it's a decent place for solo levelling too, especially if you don't yet have super-OP gear. But I agree that the ghosts alone are not worth it, especially since they fly and hover around empty space and lots of drops just don't happen.
Actually those ghosts are totally worth it. Farmed the shit out of LK and CS and AS has netted me way more HRs than the entire game combined. 3 Jah, 3 Ber, 6 Sur in total. 3 jah, 2 ber and 4 sur came from ghosts :)
hi dbrunski - great guides as always - with playing on B-net primarily myself since "Cruel weapons" were a thing - Runes have always been an issue for me to find. I prefer to play solo rather then in groups and assumed this was my downfall as to why i wasnt having any luck at all finding anything higher then an Ist then having to cube the runes higher. Is there any suggestions you may have that would help with my odds playing on B-net?
I always had my best rune luck starting at Hell Bloody foothills, and ending at shenk the overseer. (But, I suppose if you don't have the ability to survive there yet, these other places are certainly great too). I don't know if my lucky spot will be anyone else's lucky spot, but I figured it might be worth sharing.
whats the best character to farm these high lvl areas? I usually use a summon mancer with CE but is there anything safer/faster that doesnt require crazy gear?
Hammerdin.....Lightning Sorc isn't too bad if you got Griffon Eye(-20% to mobs lightning resists) + Infinity on Merc to be able to compete with an hammerdin that bypass all immune effortlessly///ish super tanky note for sorc btw..if you wish to get max Block for WAY less Dex on sorc.....get 10-35% IBC(Increased block rate)....10% reduce dex needed by 68....35% reduce dex needed by 161...further amount decrease it much less......beyond 50% its entirely irrelevant decrease(35-50 is only an extra -22 needed ) Safety Craft Amy can net you 10% IBR + 10% fcr + 2 to all trees skills fcr BP(117% and 78%(Chain Lightning//Lightning).....105% and 63% for every other skills....recommend at least 78% to reach second best Lightning frame bp....63% bp equal same tele and cast speed as a paladin that has 125% fcr for all others skills FHR breakpoint is 86% ......lastly....Infinity is NOT optionnal for a sorc to be competitive to a pally for farming i be sending one more post but only if yt allow it to stay
Hello there! Have the droprates for runes been changed in D2R? In three days time (total of 5h play) i found a VEX, GUL, SUR and some midrunes... Or did I just hit the jackpot?
I get the feeling drop rates were slightly boosted too. I was playing normal D2 for a few months before D2R dropped and I feel like I am getting more in D2R. Though that's likely just RNG though.
I think hellforge farming is by far the coolest. Past 1.09 you need to have 8/9 battlenet keys and run 8/9 instances of D2 at the same time to do it efficiently. Even the best players need more than an hour for one run, but the rune drops up to Gul are still much better than what you get in an hour of perfectly optimized chest runs. (Someone calculated that with cubing you get an average of 1.2330 Guls per run from Hell HF alone!) The thing why it is the coolest is because there is over a thousand things to know that will speed up your run and you're encountering different stuff all the time and basically running through the whole game. So this is something to do if you want to commit to something.
I've read some contradicting information about party size. What happens to my drops when I enter a Baal bot game and party at 8, but go LK and Travi solo while the rest are busy in the throne room?

Now I’m debating trying SP instead of non-ladder bnet on D2:R launch. Seems that you can manipulate drop rate better in SP, the map are static and no one can steal your drops. But playing with my buddies seems also nice. Ah... decisions, decisions.

I played D2 rather obsessively for many years but never saw a single HR drop. (My personal record was a Mal) My entire gear strategy was about consolidating mid level stuff into wealth to by GG items. I'd come home from school every day and farm hell pindle or whatever until bed. Never once found anything super powerful. Looking back at D2, I loved the game so much, but to this day I don't know why I farmed so much. It isn't like there was anything that getting better gear would unlock for me to experience. It was just a cycle of farm to get better gear to farm faster.
I've been playing D2 single player with plugy for 7-8 months, I have infi, eni, hoto, griffon's eye, eth bug forti, coh, but I can't find mara🙂 RNG in this game is crazy and I love her for it. Now my goal is eth botd😉 DB good job, I get a lot of inspiration form your channel. Greetings from Poland.
Playing hardcorer on ladder I always go for travi and pits on hell for high runes. I found 2 Cham and 3 ist in 500 travi runs in one day. Crazy luck but travi feels like the way to go.
He said 2 camp fires... Lower Kurast maps can have 1 or 2 campfires (random). The huts near the camp fires are the ones with super chests. In single player once a map is generated it stays the same as long as you don't switch difficulty. So he is saying if the LK map is generated with 1 camp fire, go switch difficulty and return, until LK is generated with 2 campfires. Then do not switch difficulty anymore until you are done farming the heck out of it. Its even better if the campfires are close to the way point.
Why does level 76 sorceress at player 1 is much better than my level 88 paladin a players 8? I am farming Lower Kurast in hell with both. My sorceress finds higher runes more often than my paladin who has a better map. Do some characters do better at finding runes? I believe so. Had similar results with a necromancer doing better than a barbarian.
Hey guys. This just in!!!. DO NOT sleep on the stony tombs !. I have been racking up big here. There could be up to 13 unique monsters and champion packs in both levels. I found my first ever griffins here yesterday not to mention hrs and some nice rares and charms

You should check DBrunski's guide for farming lower kurrast. The more players, the higher the chances of droping runes. Notice that I've said "droping runes" instead of "droping high runes" because I, personally, haven't seen a single rune higher than MAL in lower kurast, nor in any other place for that matters. I'm building a Javazon to try and farm in cow level to see what I can get there, hopefully i'll get high runes to make my first enigma in single player...
HELPFUL TIP: Ok guys, something i have had to discover for myself through many runs and experimenting. First i have played the recent 1.14d patch and i'm playing 1.12 (for plugy), i mention this as i strongly believe this tip to be true on BOTH patches! If you do countess runs, i have tried on /players 8 and i'm finding the drop rates on runes are inferior than when i do normal /players 1 runs. For example: I have been power leveling my sorceress using AOE spells on /players 8 to get good, fast exp, but i noticed my rune drops were really lacking, i haven't been finding many useful runes and i have a few alt chars i wish to make some nice runewords for, (Barbarian especially) I did a lot of runs last night and today and it's just dawned on me, i'm playing on /players 8 and i've noticed this before, when i drop it back to /players 1 immediately i get a Sol and Shael rune drop together when in the previous 10-15 runs i was getting single El runes or Eld or Tir. This isn't coincidence now as i've noticed this before in the past when i tried putting the player levels up hoping for better loots and noticed it was the opposite! Sorry if this is long winded but i wanted to explain it best as i can and i hope it helps some players.
I use D2 randomizer in addition to PlugY. I use randomizer solely for increased monster density. It saves me time by not having to create new games as often. It keeps the game interesting because the risk increases with more monsters.
I think the most density area with easiest difficulty in hell is hall of pain. But having Hall of pain portal opened its mean you will lose Pindle portal.
Decided to start farming arcane sanctuary. Found an ohm... Then made a 6/6/1 Ethereal Crystal Sword Cta. :) Love Arcane Sanctuary. (Ohm from ghost) Make that 2x now. Under 100 runs. O.o
1st. I think Chaos sanctuary p8 pop wouldve been good mention. When u leave one seal unopened, kill superuniques, tele through cs and open last seal. If done enough fast it will make monsters around pentagram to do 0mf drop. So basically without effort you kill a lot of monsters with drops each run. This is especially good strat for bnet farmers. Just follow a baalrun for p8, clear cs in mentioned way and head back to wave3 to throne.
Yup. I believe cs pop is the best way to farm hrs. "Monsters killed per second" with this strat is highest. Kinda bummer tho that u need highend char to efficiently kill superuniques to get that pop. In sp that is point where farming hr's becomes waste of time...
Regarding the Countess, it's important to visit her on /players 1 on single player, respectively when being alone in a bnet game. Her special rune drop (i.e. those up to Ist) is being replaced by regular drops if her normal drops reach the maximum of 6 which is more likely to occur on games with more than one player.

That rolling the dice analogy is key.Two goals: roll as many dices as possible while looking for dices that have as few faces as possible .

I got a zod rune last week after I had done like 70 cow runs, Couldn't believe it, never seen a zod drop in the 16 years I have been playing D2!
Seen Zod from doing hell rushes forge quest --- hell rushes for act 4 quest was one of the best ways I found high Runes

Each time I watch a D2 video I become even more sure that no other game will never be as good as it. Not even D4 or D5. No no. D2 is just perfect.

Cool. Good topic. I'd like to mention that if you're farming for high runes specifically, that's also a good time to farm for Eth gear for merc. Take off your magic find (to increase Eth drop chance) and kill big packs. I wish I had thought of this while farming my Bers for Infinity...now I have the runes but no Eth Thresher to socket them into!

#1 LK is the best for single player, but mind numbing
#2 Travincal, especially for hork barb
#3 Cows, since their chance to drop any rune is 50% higher.
#4 Wraiths: around 3.2x more on p1, 3.5x on p5, around 3.7x on p7
#5 clear mass monsters: around 2x less effective than Cows
@@MatiKosa pretty sure cows experience gained and gear drop and along with high runes was heavily nerfed to the ground. In the latest patch which the game plays on for remastered.
@@MatiKosa I've played the game for 20 years and the best way to farm HRs is to gank them from public runs of 8 players. With all my experience, I cannot recommend anyone to farm LK and Trav. They look good on paper, but realistically 95% of us cannot run them efficiently enough to make it worth while. With that said, focus on Act bosses, mini bosses, and just clear ghosts and finger mages. I recently found a Sur from Andariel, Jah from Diablo, and a Vex from finger mages in River of Flame. I've put a lot of effort of 2 weeks into Trav on my horker, and I feel like I could have had 2 HRs in my pocket if I hadn't wasted my time there.

Your method isn't great, because regular monsters don't drop runes often, so lowering their NoDrop by a slightly higher amount won't net you many more runes. But even if: imagine a Ber drops. Now I am asking you: what now? Who is gonna take that rune? Maybe someone will even steal it. I'm sorry but that is just not a solution.
LK is the winner, then Trav. But you need to know how to run Trav efficiently. The fact that you or 95% of players can't do it well enough doesn't change the fact it is almost the best method. Also, you said 2 weeks. Doesn't matter if it was 2 weeks or 2 years. Queston is: how many runs did you do? I bet not more than 400-500. 200-300 is what I would do per session. Did 3500 in total. HRs were flying.
Dbrunski's guide about Lower Curast rune farming is the best I've seen so far. I did maybe a 1000 runs, brought me enough runes to make HoTO, Delirium, Sanctuary, Call to Arms. The highest I found was Sur.

Been doing some lower kurast, got 2 Sur runes and some other nice runes so far. It's all about patience and keeping the grind on!
also did lots of LK runs. already dropped 3x Sur, 1x Ist, 1x Um and 3x Pul. Probably I did ~600-700 runs in LK.
It doesn't really account for *that* big of a difference, but part of the reason you have more Jahs than Bers is because Ber is actually more rare to drop than Jah. Even though Jah is technically higher up the rune tier list.
I dropped 3 this season from terror fallen ones. Now I dont leave a single one alive.
I know that Hell Mephisto doesn't drop many runes, but he has the capability to do at least a Jah rune- which was my first Jah rune I got ever, off Mephisto.
Maybtry that im always low on essence of hatred anyway might as well I found ber rune jah would be sweet!
Hope springs eternal they say. :) In all the years of playing (single player mind you) I was only able to find runes up to LO in the wild, but your video proves that higher stuff can still be found sometime. :)
Incidentally I like to farm the 3 Kurast locations; it was there and in the 6 small underground temples below these that I was able to find the best stuff (like LO and OHM).

Bug seal in chaos sanctuary should have been included in this video. In my experience it can compete with LK and is the best way to farm high runes in my opinion.
frontliner2 basically you clear all 3 superuniques, pop only 4 seals, then teleport back to entrance of CS and then as fast as you can while passing as many mobs as you can, get to the last seal and pop it. Everything will die but anything on screen 6 seconds or less before you popped the seal has a chance to drop something(as if you had 0 mf though). So good way to get bases or high runes

You should mention when killing ghosts in Arcane that if they drop off the path they wont drop anything. It's basic knowledge and people avoid farming them there for this reason.
That’s why you use a Zon and cast Valk to herd them
same thing for any champ or unique monster in other places, killing out of border cause the full drop items is gone!!!!
@@jetttor In arcane sanctuary ghosts can beeline between the narrow pathways that's why it's way more common that they are over empty space. While you are farming time per run matters and you don't have time for them to float over safe land. While on other maps walls and generally larger areas prevent them from flying over such places. In Chaos it can happen with the Doom Caster mobs but even there it's way less common.
I’ve had luck there with a Bowa when I just pulled back a little. The specters follow and you can catch them over paths. I stack organic damage runes and a merc with a simple insight
Hey, DB! I've got a question: is it better to run, say, Kurast only 1000 times, or a long route (Crypt?, Countess?, Andariel?, AT, Kurast, Mephisto, Pindle), say, 100 times?
LK isn't worth it as part of a long route. The goal there is to have super-fast runs (~30 seconds or lower from start game to save & exit), so that you can do thousands of runs quickly. 1000 runs often won't net you anything but gems and a couple of mid runes, 100 is nothing ... you need to do multiples of thousands to reasonably expect results.

When I played this game a lot I did the following in bnet, which I never heard from other players:
I had a Classic Sorc and rushed 3 other charakters to Hell Act4 (self rush, had 4 instances of Diablo open in Sandbox), to avoid the lvl20 & lvl40 LOD limitations for nightmare and hell pass.
Afterwards I converted the characters to LOD. I think Hell Act4 conversion to LOD will degredade your old Classic charakter to Hell Act1 or Act2.
So I finished the Hellforge quest with this characters in Hell and erased them. This was done by rushing myself.
Basically you can generate many runes in "short" time.
I doubt that will work in Res.

hell is the only difficulty where high runes commonly drop. You can on _very_ rare occasion find them in NM, but that's about it really. Anything from Mal - Zod is considered a high rune.
and your character level has no influence on which runes drop. The chance of rune drops is determined by the level of the area you are in, the difficulty you are playing in, and the level of the monster you are killing.
Are you still using 1.13? If you upgraded can you say what the difference is? Finally got my plugy working its 1.13 but I see everyone else with 1.13c

Sorry for the stupid question regarding the /playersX function, but is the idea to set X to a minimum so you can kill as many enemies as possible in the shortest amount of time to maximize high rune drop chances?
I find the best way to find HRs in SP plugy is doing LK (p7) and cows (p3).

Would you recommend opening up chests, rocks etc in the cow level, or just kill cows? I've had HR's drop from chests before, but do you think it slows down runes per hour?
Scott sattler i find looting everything in cow level to be worth it. Rocks & whatnot seem to drop alot of small/grand charms among other things in my experience

Good stuff dude. My cousin convinced me to download plugy and been playing for about a month now. It has been very fun getting back into d2. Cold sorc moat trick for my starter items and LK and ancient tunnels for my hrs. I've gotten vex, ohm x2, ber and sur so far. Been enjoying your content, you got yourself a new subscriber.
There's one more thing worth mentioning about the Arcane Sanctuary - superchests! They probably don't have the same patterns as the LK ones, but they surely do share some. At each of the 3 false ends, there's 3 superchests to pop, making 9 in total. Combine this with the ghosts and it's a decent incentive for rune farming. Not as boring as LK, not as dangerous as Travincal and it's a decent place for solo levelling too, especially if you don't yet have super-OP gear. But I agree that the ghosts alone are not worth it, especially since they fly and hover around empty space and lots of drops just don't happen.
Actually those ghosts are totally worth it. Farmed the shit out of LK and CS and AS has netted me way more HRs than the entire game combined. 3 Jah, 3 Ber, 6 Sur in total. 3 jah, 2 ber and 4 sur came from ghosts :)

hi dbrunski - great guides as always - with playing on B-net primarily myself since "Cruel weapons" were a thing - Runes have always been an issue for me to find. I prefer to play solo rather then in groups and assumed this was my downfall as to why i wasnt having any luck at all finding anything higher then an Ist then having to cube the runes higher. Is there any suggestions you may have that would help with my odds playing on B-net?
I always had my best rune luck starting at Hell Bloody foothills, and ending at shenk the overseer. (But, I suppose if you don't have the ability to survive there yet, these other places are certainly great too). I don't know if my lucky spot will be anyone else's lucky spot, but I figured it might be worth sharing.

Hammerdin.....Lightning Sorc isn't too bad if you got Griffon Eye(-20% to mobs lightning resists) + Infinity on Merc to be able to compete with an hammerdin that bypass all immune effortlessly///ish super tanky
note for sorc btw..if you wish to get max Block for WAY less Dex on sorc.....get 10-35% IBC(Increased block rate)....10% reduce dex needed by 68....35% reduce dex needed by 161...further amount decrease it much less......beyond 50% its entirely irrelevant decrease(35-50 is only an extra -22 needed )
Safety Craft Amy can net you 10% IBR + 10% fcr + 2 to all trees skills
fcr BP(117% and 78%(Chain Lightning//Lightning).....105% and 63% for every other skills....recommend at least 78% to reach second best Lightning frame bp....63% bp equal same tele and cast speed as a paladin that has 125% fcr for all others skills
FHR breakpoint is 86%
......lastly....Infinity is NOT optionnal for a sorc to be competitive to a pally for farming

Hello there! Have the droprates for runes been changed in D2R? In three days time (total of 5h play) i found a VEX, GUL, SUR and some midrunes... Or did I just hit the jackpot?
I get the feeling drop rates were slightly boosted too. I was playing normal D2 for a few months before D2R dropped and I feel like I am getting more in D2R. Though that's likely just RNG though.
a doubt Rare runes like a ZOD only drop or are more likely to fall from Diablo Run mode-Hell, Baal Run and Mephisto mobs? Is aidna strategy like this?
I think hellforge farming is by far the coolest. Past 1.09 you need to have 8/9 battlenet keys and run 8/9 instances of D2 at the same time to do it efficiently. Even the best players need more than an hour for one run, but the rune drops up to Gul are still much better than what you get in an hour of perfectly optimized chest runs. (Someone calculated that with cubing you get an average of 1.2330 Guls per run from Hell HF alone!)
The thing why it is the coolest is because there is over a thousand things to know that will speed up your run and you're encountering different stuff all the time and basically running through the whole game. So this is something to do if you want to commit to something.

I played D2 rather obsessively for many years but never saw a single HR drop. (My personal record was a Mal) My entire gear strategy was about consolidating mid level stuff into wealth to by GG items. I'd come home from school every day and farm hell pindle or whatever until bed. Never once found anything super powerful. Looking back at D2, I loved the game so much, but to this day I don't know why I farmed so much. It isn't like there was anything that getting better gear would unlock for me to experience. It was just a cycle of farm to get better gear to farm faster.
I've been playing D2 single player with plugy for 7-8 months, I have infi, eni, hoto, griffon's eye, eth bug forti, coh, but I can't find mara🙂 RNG in this game is crazy and I love her for it. Now my goal is eth botd😉 DB good job, I get a lot of inspiration form your channel. Greetings from Poland.

Playing hardcorer on ladder I always go for travi and pits on hell for high runes.
I found 2 Cham and 3 ist in 500 travi runs in one day. Crazy luck but travi feels like the way to go.

Dbrunski125 what do you mean by roll lower kurast until you get 4 camp fire for 6 chests?
He said 2 camp fires... Lower Kurast maps can have 1 or 2 campfires (random). The huts near the camp fires are the ones with super chests. In single player once a map is generated it stays the same as long as you don't switch difficulty. So he is saying if the LK map is generated with 1 camp fire, go switch difficulty and return, until LK is generated with 2 campfires. Then do not switch difficulty anymore until you are done farming the heck out of it. Its even better if the campfires are close to the way point.

Why does level 76 sorceress at player 1 is much better than my level 88 paladin a players 8? I am farming Lower Kurast in hell with both. My sorceress finds higher runes more often than my paladin who has a better map. Do some characters do better at finding runes? I believe so. Had similar results with a necromancer doing better than a barbarian.
Hey guys. This just in!!!. DO NOT sleep on the stony tombs !. I have been racking up big here. There could be up to 13 unique monsters and champion packs in both levels. I found my first ever griffins here yesterday not to mention hrs and some nice rares and charms

You should check DBrunski's guide for farming lower kurrast. The more players, the higher the chances of droping runes. Notice that I've said "droping runes" instead of "droping high runes" because I, personally, haven't seen a single rune higher than MAL in lower kurast, nor in any other place for that matters. I'm building a Javazon to try and farm in cow level to see what I can get there, hopefully i'll get high runes to make my first enigma in single player...
HELPFUL TIP:
Ok guys, something i have had to discover for myself through many runs and experimenting.
First i have played the recent 1.14d patch and i'm playing 1.12 (for plugy), i mention this as i strongly believe this tip to be true on BOTH patches!
If you do countess runs, i have tried on /players 8 and i'm finding the drop rates on runes are inferior than when i do normal /players 1 runs.
For example:
I have been power leveling my sorceress using AOE spells on /players 8 to get good, fast exp, but i noticed my rune drops were really lacking, i haven't been finding many useful runes and i have a few alt chars i wish to make some nice runewords for, (Barbarian especially)
I did a lot of runs last night and today and it's just dawned on me, i'm playing on /players 8 and i've noticed this before, when i drop it back to /players 1 immediately i get a Sol and Shael rune drop together when in the previous 10-15 runs i was getting single El runes or Eld or Tir.
This isn't coincidence now as i've noticed this before in the past when i tried putting the player levels up hoping for better loots and noticed it was the opposite!
Sorry if this is long winded but i wanted to explain it best as i can and i hope it helps some players.

How does MF affect /players X command? I've tried running andariel runs in nightmare and found out at base MF, /players 2 is the best config.
I use D2 randomizer in addition to PlugY. I use randomizer solely for increased monster density. It saves me time by not having to create new games as often. It keeps the game interesting because the risk increases with more monsters.
I play b-net. I know players have to be buy each other for mf'n. What about rune's and lower creast chest farming can I just park 7 mules in game ?
I think the most density area with easiest difficulty in hell is hall of pain. But having Hall of pain portal opened its mean you will lose Pindle portal.
Decided to start farming arcane sanctuary. Found an ohm... Then made a 6/6/1 Ethereal Crystal Sword Cta. :) Love Arcane Sanctuary. (Ohm from ghost) Make that 2x now. Under 100 runs. O.o

1st. I think Chaos sanctuary p8 pop wouldve been good mention. When u leave one seal unopened, kill superuniques, tele through cs and open last seal. If done enough fast it will make monsters around pentagram to do 0mf drop. So basically without effort you kill a lot of monsters with drops each run.
This is especially good strat for bnet farmers. Just follow a baalrun for p8, clear cs in mentioned way and head back to wave3 to throne.

Yup. I believe cs pop is the best way to farm hrs. "Monsters killed per second" with this strat is highest. Kinda bummer tho that u need highend char to efficiently kill superuniques to get that pop. In sp that is point where farming hr's becomes waste of time...
What difficulty should you farm runes in?
Regarding the Countess, it's important to visit her on /players 1 on single player, respectively when being alone in a bnet game. Her special rune drop (i.e. those up to Ist) is being replaced by regular drops if her normal drops reach the maximum of 6 which is more likely to occur on games with more than one player.
Packs of champion stanglers just outside of chaos is how i get a lot of my high runes. Got Ist, Ohm and Cham this ladder form hitting those
