I’m astonished. The skill it takes to be able the bass’s fingerboard accurately and the skill that is need create a clean tone insane. The fact you’ve been able to do this made my jaw drop
Yeah so basically we start with stickers kn our lower notes and then as we learn higher notes we develop an intonation of sorts and then we can stay in tune and as we play longer we remove those stickers and tapes until you don’t have anything on your instrument. As you start to take of those tapes you develop a muscle memory and it becomes easy usually takes about 2 or 3 years. We can’t have frets because each instruments notes doesn’t have the same place so let’s say we did have frets we would be out of tune 24/7. So we have individual tapes on each note placement and you can put a tape across all 4 strings as the spacing across all strings are usually all consistent. Now that you know that think of how easy it is to get notes as somebody who has played for decades and that’s what you get.
エッジJ •matt • i Never used tapes. Don’t ask me why. I thought I was too good for them 🙄🙄 but yeah, it still took about 2 years to get it down. Then after that it’s a combo of muscle memory and actively using your ears to make adjustments to find the right pitch.
Man, I dont ubderstand some people who say that cello and double bass are harder than violin for their size. I thibk that is bullshit, brcause a violin player gets used w its size, same for cello and any instrument. So it is impossible to say that there is "the most hard instrument in thr world"
Your beautiful variations on Paganini follows in the footsteps of an idol of my youth Rodion Azarkhin. Thank you for expanding the vocabulary our beloved instrument. I hope you continue composing.
The level of skill this takes to do is mind blowing. This is exponentially harder to do on the Double Bass than on Violin. I’m totally gobsmacked. Virtuoso!
Great version of Paganini 24. Wagner writes variations specific to the bass but still utilises the original violin variations when possible. If you have not seen solo classical bass playing before, this is good stuff. The performance is excellent and the recording quality makes the bass sound like it is in your living room. I would buy the sheet music but my solo chops are not up to it.
Bravo! Are you in fifths? Congratulations on your mastery of this great instrument. Audio quality allowed me to hear the full range of this great beast.
@@kpp28 it's actually doable, but left hand pizz with that specific variation would be awkward on bass because it obviously wasn't written for it. But there's other left hand pizz that might work nicely on bass in the lower register
As a bass player, I will say that this man is on a whole different level.
Ikr such clear tone
As a fellow bass player, I agree
Love the colour of this doble bass
as a violinist with small hands, i fear this great bassist
i'm a bassist with small ass hands. your fears are completely valid
E string: Am I a joke to you?
Yup
LoL
I swear when I started playing the double bass I literally never used the e string lol
Yes
Bad string for solo playing
He practice 40 Hours a day
Maybe more
But ling ling can play it at 15 notes a second
40th like
EWA KOPERSKA and night
Shut the hell up.
Someone had to do it. Very ingenious, and the technique is superb.
Let's take a moment to appreciate that this is on the DOUBLE BASS
0:48 - 1:22 😲👏🏾 Talk about going up and down! Wow!

It's always freaked me out how violins have no frets yet violinists can find the right notes. I can't even fathom trying to play a double bass.
nah bro you get used to it

エッジJ it’s just practice. you don’t need to look at your fingerboard anyways when you read sheet music so

AMAZING!
He followed ling ling in life😉
Geniuses are born not created!
Such a full tone throughout! Truly remarkable
Oh my. I've found something brilliant.
That was amazing. I can't believe your virtuosity on that huge instrument! Great job!
So satisfying to listen to!
(as I'm used to listening to violent usually, hearing an instrument with a much fuller sound is great!)
😉The violin can sound v i o l e n t. At times, you are right 😂😂 I fully agree, it is beautiful on bass.
The level of skill this takes to do is mind blowing. This is exponentially harder to do on the Double Bass than on Violin. I’m totally gobsmacked. Virtuoso!
Also I just noticed he’s doing it with German bowing! 🙀🙀🙀

Wow! Flawless technique and such clarity! I had no idea basses could be that nimble.
Bravo!

Congratulations on your mastery of this great instrument.

Andy Melendez Thanks for the nice comment!
I play in standard Solo tuning (in fourths)
Dominik Wagner F# B E A?

Ling Ling feels so proud!
Du bringst Kontrabass spielen auf ein neues Level

It’s hard on violin but it’s hard for different reasons on the base.
Vaughn Hale it’s spelled bass
@@cadenstine7108 well the e is next to s on keyboard so prob just a mistake

Bass** ya dingbat
It's even harder on acid.
Unglaublich, Dominik! :-)
LG Lionel
Lionel Martin Vielen Dank!

Nice piece!
Are you serious!? Hahah great playing as always Dominik!!
Like the vid so much, it´s also physically so demandy for a double bass player.
Bravo dominik ~💯

Amazed here
So beutiful! Thanx for sharing!
Niezwykłe wykonanie!
why does this guy look like connor from detroit become human
You Dont Need To Know Me haha, do I? I would see that as a compliment, I love that game
He is conor
@@bassowagner you really kinda do. It's funny. Love the game too.
You're amazing btw
I can’t believe that you did upper staccato!
Incredible!
Unbelievable
Perfeito, brilhante! Timbre maravilhoso.
Почти пэрфэкт только паганини держал смычок деревом по струнам👍👍👍👍👍
Sehr geil!
Bright!
Violin players flinch when they look at how much harder pag is on the db
is there a transcription of this i can find or will i have to make one?
Zachary Fraser-Pearce I’m going to publish the sheet music later this year
👏👏👏👏👏 Bravo
this video was published on my birthday!
What fantastic tone and control of the instrument you have. What strings are you using?
Sad Moe Thanks!
I’m using Belcanto Solo strings on the upper two strings and Spirocore Solo strings on the lower two strings
Super Geil!!
Hey, do you still have the recordings you did on the Fryba suite? You had the best live recordings on youtube and I cant find them anymore...
Genial👍
What size bass is that? And amazing job I’ve been playing bass in 6 and most of 7grade and switched to bass and have so far loved it
Lauren Moss This is a standard sized bass, with a rather comfortable string length.
It’s great that you enjoy playing the bass too
no left hand pizz
ling ling spits at your feet!!
Even ling ling cannot left hand pizz a contrabass
@@kpp28 it's actually doable, but left hand pizz with that specific variation would be awkward on bass because it obviously wasn't written for it. But there's other left hand pizz that might work nicely on bass in the lower register
Hey dominik did you arrange this yourself or did you find it
Caden Stine The theme is from Paganini, but I wrote the variations
Dominik Wagner are the arrangements and/or variations available for purchase?
Edward Nelson I plan on publishing them later this year
👍👍👏👏👏👏👏
Wow
The nearest we been to God
Is he playing on gut strings ?
No. I could be wrong, but they look like Spirocore Weichs, which are a very common steel string!
Sebastian Owens Almost true!
The upper two ones are Belcanto and the lower ones are Spirocore
0:40
There are still some harder pieces by bottesini
good job
Why ia the fingerboard like that
lawrence wei it’s extended on the upper strings so I can play higher notes there
I could never shift like that :/
Ah.....
ohhh my god, is it real ?????
It's Song like death.....
黒光りえぐい()
Now do it standing
As said, these are not the original variations.
It is Paganinish, but bogus.
This was his variations, not paganini's. why would have to sound paganini-like?
Did you write this yourself bro play something else bro please bro
fucc wrong channel, nice 4-string acoustic guitar though
