I find it kinda funny how Studio Pierrot earlier stuff were magical girl series when there more known for mostly Shonen series. That Persia episode with the escaped convict basically sounds like the plot of the strangler episode from SpongeBob.
Off-topic, but have you considered reviewing Princess Tutu? It’s such a cute and deep show, and absolutely underrated in general as well as within the mahou shojo genre! Duck really seems like she’d be right up your alley, and just like magicians, you really don’t see many magical girl ballerinas.
Hey that’s cool, but I wonder if Sailor Guardian Hope will review Punie Chan later? Punie Chan is a manga about a rather villainous magical girl, which has spawned a better known loose anime adaptation with an English dub.
Also, the Magical Fairy Persia anime is very loosely based on a Ribon manga, Persia ga Suki, which isn’t as well known and may not deserve an English language release anyway due to lots of values dissonant aspects taken up to eleven.
I think another reason why Creamy Mami has stood the test of time compared to other 80s Pierrot magical girls is that her series has aged the best. They started off so strong that I guess they wouldn't keep up. Not to mention, while there are still aspects that haven’t aged well, I find that Creamy Mami is the least problematic. Hell, my incessant need to find as much about these 80s magical girls as possible led to me finding out that parents actually had a problem with the number of times Yumi was shown naked. And on an unrelated note, also found out that Persia was not created from the ground up but is actually an adaptation of a manga that wasn't even a magical girl. But after what the poster had to say about his experience reading it coupled with the blatant sexualization of Persia, it goes without saying that the anime is better.
Frankly, even I think the manga was pretty meh in terms of both writing and drawing, as well as being coupled with many dissonant aspects that stick out like a sore tongue, while the anime adaptation isn’t as problematic but still is much better and far more fun. Thankfully, the woman behind the original manga seems to be a veteran (since the 1980s) who was trying to earn a living when the original manga was made.
I cosplayed Mami this past con!! During the first episode, she’s kinda thrust on stage and has to make up a name. Her parents run a crepe shop called the Creamy Crepe, so she calls herself Creamy Mami since that comes to her mind. ^^; I also recommend looking at Kenny Lauderdale’s review on it if you want a more sarcastic take, lol. (Side note, writing this as I’m watching, how tf did you find this in High School…?) Hoping I can cosplay as her again next year, and actually work up the nerve to karaoke this time. ;v; (And maybe also finish the Megumi and Yuu cosplays I was working on, too… ^^;;; ) ETA: Jealous of the set, I only have the compact. The picture board, if you ever play tabletop RPGs, would be great to hide dice, notes, character sheets, etc! They used to make boards like that specifically for that purpose. :3 (Would also be good for hiding your answers during a test, lol.)
I’ve been starting Creamy Mami 💜 and for my first 80s magical girl it’s definitely a fun ride, also I’ve been starting the manga it’s really good! Great video!
Have you heard of Chloe’s Closet? If you haven’t, it’s about a little girl who plays dress up and goes on adventures with her friends. I watched it as a child and I was obsessed with it.
I watched it too. It’s not only a frankly funny show, but also one of the last great British children’s shows to ever air! Way funnier in hindsight than boring old Dora the Explorer.
Lala was the one I watched all the way through, and for me it's the best of the bunch just as an anime series. It's a favorite show in general, because I appreciate how well it handles children's concerns and worries and doesn't talk down to them as an audience. It has a really melancholy tone overall, which makes it less of a pure magical girl kind of series, but that maturity is what made it really stand out in my mind.
I had been waiting for this video! During the lockdown I watched Creamy and fell in love! Has a simple storyline but its cute ❤ I cant wait to see their new proyect!!
i watched fancy lala on animax as a kid and back then, i only focused on the fact that she could transform into an idol bc it's something i always wanted to be 😅 but during covid lockdown i gave it a rewatch and was surprised at how it handled relationships and topics!! so happy you talked about it and the other pierrot animes 💖 you are my favorite channel!!! im so excited for their new anime!!!
I'm glad you covered all of these magical girls. Fun Fact Project A-ko another anime parody movie from the 80's portrays Creamy Mami as a teacher as a joke. LOL I recommend this movie because of all the magical girl and anime references. It's free to watch everywhere
I really appreciate your videos, because it shows me anime I’ve never even heard of! I’ve never watched anything featured in this video, so time to add some shows to the list. As a side note, the discord server link in the description and channel info says it’s expired.
I guess it's because it was a manga 1st but my fave magical girl anime from them wasn't in the video, and it was Tokyo Mew Mew (or Mew Mew Power as 4Kids liked to call it)
Awesome video Hope and it one of the best video'sthat I've ever seen! I've absolutely love magical girl franchise/Magical girl series so very much growing up and Creamy Mami is one of my absolute favorite magical girl anime's and it's one of the greatest anime's from the 80's Creamy Mami is really fun yet great to watch because the story is so very well-witten yet overall fantastic, the characters are just so amazing and very wonderful the color's and the aesthetic are just so very pretty and very colorful, unique and very fantastically eye candy to look at in the special yet good way and the song's of Creamy Mami are just absolutely ✨️iconic✨️,beautiful, sublime and very stunning to listen to and as always keep it up the fantastic work because you are the greatest youtuber of all time Hope and we will keep supporting you all the way because you are the best!!!
Mentioning the questionable parenting in creamy mami i noticed how normalised these parenting techniques were even in the older sailer moon where usagi's own mother locks her out of the house(which is now frowned upon these days thank god)
Fancy lala was one of the first anime I ever saw, but only the first three episodes since it was a dvd. I'm so glad it holds up in the present, and is not just a case of rose tinted glasses
Yeah the second crossover it basically wow like every other company they fought someone from outer space you know it happened with Godzilla it happens with pretty cure it happened with hellraiser what happened with Jason and leprechaun and wix
Thanks for this video! I’ve dabbled in the premiere episodes for Emi and Yumi, and dropped Yumi quite hard after that incident in episode 01. Based off of your video, I’ll definitely give the Creamy Mami Spoiled Princess manga a shot, as well as checking out Fancy Lala and maybe the Creamy Mami anime! ⭐️
On the video of the last Disney princesses that you made you said that you were in kindergarten in 2007 and I was in preschool in 2007 and from this video you are older than me about year, month, and two days (11/21/2002)
Watching fancy lala I understood that all these anime represent the transition from childhood to adolescence, not only for the transformations that recall the games in which children pretend to be adults or the fairies that recall imaginary friends but for the beautiful theme of time and of memory or for the way in which the protagonist loses her magic without realizing it and being recognized only by Komiyama
As someone who grow up with Sailor Moon Magical girls without sentai or fight shonen elements feel SO weird. O never understand what's the point of them
Girl you should chack out a 90s British cartoon penny crayon, its about a girl who has a magic pencil that can bring anything she draws to life. Think thats a British magical girl the show doesn't have the same conflicts as anime and other magical girl shows it has more...Britishisms so some might go over Americans heads
Regarding Persia: why is it always the entrie continent of Africa and never a specific country...also, the punishment being a gender bending of the guys? i know this is and old anime, but definetly a skip for me
God, I truly cannot wait till your channel becomes big. I’m trying to do my best to tell all my friends about you. These are the cutest videos I’ve ever seen. Hope you see this comment.🩷🎀
I've always wanted the Creamy Mami cassette tape deck. I hear they just released a record player so th show's still getting merchandise.
Hey, it’s you Kenny Lauderdale, the king of obscure anime adaptation reviews!
I find it kinda funny how Studio Pierrot earlier stuff were magical girl series when there more known for mostly Shonen series. That Persia episode with the escaped convict basically sounds like the plot of the strangler episode from SpongeBob.

SAME I would love a princess tutu video❤
Princess Tutu is in the intro
I want to say she did but she might of deleted it. She deleted alot of her videos with her old stills
am i about to watch an hour long video about magical girls? yeah
will it be worth the time? YEP
Oh my gosh, its finally out! Yaaay!! OG magical girls is what got me really interested in the genre so I can't wait to see you talk about it!!
Gotta say, Studio Pierrot knows how to make fan favorite shows!!! 🙌🙌🙌💜
Indeed they do!
Creamy Mami, particularly the two-parter you mentioned, does sound like it has some criticisms of the idol industry.
Loved this video and would LOVE to see a video about Saint tail. Grew up adoring that show as a kiddo.
that’s a great idea honestly
Anyone else think it’s weird that Magical Fairy Persia isn’t… you know, Persian?
Also, the Magical Fairy Persia anime is very loosely based on a Ribon manga, Persia ga Suki, which isn’t as well known and may not deserve an English language release anyway due to lots of values dissonant aspects taken up to eleven.
I see it like how people give their kids place names like Paris, London, Dallas, and Savanah.

THAT ENGLISH SCENE IS PERSIA YOUR KIDDING 🤣🤣🤣
I’m sick right now and this video came out at the perfect time! Magical girls will heal me surely ❤
Feel better asap! ✨
I love listening to creamy mami, pastel yumi and urusei yatsura songs❤
26:58 nothing could have prepared me for this
Yeahhhh that’s why I immediately dropped Idol Pastel Yumi anime after the first ep
I don’t blame you 💀
I’ve heard of Creamy Mami before, but have always wanted to know more of it! The other Studio Pierrot Magical Girls seem super interesting as well!
I loved LaLa so much when I was young in the 90s because she was a magical idol with short hair (most of the time) and the storyline was so well done!
I truly can't wait for the next Studio Pierrot MG!!!!! I'm so excited!!!! 💝😭

I think tokyo mew mew was made by a different studio in a different time, so thats probably why its not here
@@may292 they did the anime in the 2000s. I think it wasn't included because it was based on a manga and not originally made by them.
“Yuu’s mother would’ve beat her for that.” 😂 nooooo!!!
The bachground music at 14:29 is from one of the bakugan games holy shit!

I just love the Studio Pierrot Girls!! It's Persia's Anniversary this year too! !🩷✨
I saw you tease the sponsor on your Twitter but omg what a perfect sponsor!!
Any chance of a minky momo review? Would love a retrospective on the first modern-ish mahou shoujo!
Nice work, I appreciate the longer format
We have isekai truck and now its weaker counterpart: shoujo car
Fancy lala was one of the first anime I ever saw, but only the first three episodes since it was a dvd.

I haven't watched the video yet, but my first magical girl anime was Fancy Lala when I was little
47:12 that tentacle monster got me flashbacks from Sonic... Fan creations...
Specifically that part... idk what to describe that...45:12
Great video I love the magical girl series!❤
Same here!

I might’ve misspoken because I’m December 2002
The Original is an Idol, The Second is a Wild Girl, the Third is a Magician, the Forth is a Normal Girl, & the Fifth is a 90's Take on the Idol.
His name was Nega? Thats nice...
I know three series with magician magical girls. There is Lalabel, the Magical Girl and Mahou Tsukai Precure and Sugar Sugar Rune.
I got that same Sailor Moon poster in the back in 15:20
Watching fancy lala I understood that all these anime represent the transition from childhood to adolescence, not only for the transformations that recall the games in which children pretend to be adults or the fairies that recall imaginary friends but for the beautiful theme of time and of memory or for the way in which the protagonist loses her magic without realizing it and being recognized only by Komiyama
Is Tokyo mew mew the only non original magical girl anime the studio worked on?
Why didn't Persia have own Unique name, like "Persia The Wild"?
wait...toshio is a middle schooler and Yu is a fourth grader...im scaird
That's pretty! I want to watch those Magical Girl Animes 🩷
PATEL YUMI MENTIONED!!!!!!
And don’t be hard on yourself for tearing up at the end of Creamy Mami, I literally tear up during the Fancy Lala THEME SONG 😂 it’s too pure
Hope, you like lucky star?
I grew up with Lala, she will forever be my girl!
What was the intro music?
I never heard of these shows before
Cute 🥺 girl magical
As someone who grow up with Sailor Moon Magical girls without sentai or fight shonen elements feel SO weird. O never understand what's the point of them

Pretty sure that’s just what magical girl series were like before shows like Sailor Moon

This was so awesome!!
