  • We look at repent and repentance unto salvation and the forgiveness of sins in accordance with the Bible to uncover the truth of what Jesus and the Apostles meant when commanding people to repent and believe. I reveal who the actual Biblical repentance deniers are who have a false works gospel that won't save anyone.

Great teaching Brian. I have been fighting this for decades (that Repentance needed for salvation is to change your mind from "I'm a good person... to, oh dear I'm a sinner & only Jesus can save me" & that it's not Repenting/turning from sins that is required for salvation...as if one could).
I have to constantly battle that and the many mature seasoned believers, even Pastors that conflate Justification with Sanctification. And Calvinism, and Mary worship, and cessationists, and Baptismal Regenerationists and...Give me strength Lord.

Do we really want to say that repentance is optional? Or that turning from sin is works salvation?
I don't think so. Those who truly are in Christ understand that it's his redemptive work that makes our salvation possible. How we enter into that looks like repentance.
When we think about the Ninevites we see that the left off their sinning and received the word ... the fact that they turned from sin was proof of their repentance.

The simple, humbling Gospel of my Lord Jesus is what I fell in love with.
    I think these sorts of
"constant sin repentance" people are uncomfortable with trust.
Constantly asking "what must we do to be saved?"
    Jesus responds "trust me..."
    "But what must I do?"
    "...trust me...."
    "Yeah but..."
    "Just trust me!"
They are like someone giving the "guilty" confession in the courtroom,
and being offered freedom and a plea deal.
And then coming back to the court the next morning, banging on the door demanding to give a confession again.
It's a long road, Jesus just wants you to look to Him, take a deep breath and hold His hand. He'll get you through this, just love Him, just trust Him.
The key to overcoming sin is replace it with love.

It isn't. Nowhere in the Bible is repentance connected with "works." It always refers to people that think they are good because they obey God's laws. Also, repentance doesn't earn anything. You're still under God's judgement and he doesn't have to forgive you. That's why it's called grace - you don't deserve it just because you're repented. The repentant criminal before a court is still at the mercy of the judge. If the judge acquits him it wholly because of his mercy, not because he has earned it. And this is exactly why God forgives us (1 Peter 1:3)

I worry that Brian is missing the whole point of salvation. There are numerous passages that tell us to repent, and Brian is correct in saying that the Greek word "metanoia" means to change your mind. But change your mind about what? Brian simply reads into all those passages that it simply means to change your mind about believing in Christ.
The whole issue in salvation is our sin and guilt before a holy and just God. We come to Christ for the forgiveness of our sins,. And justification means that our sins are forgiven and we are declared righteous in the sight of God on the basis of the perfect righteousness of Christ being imputed to us.
But how can you ask for the forgiveness of your sins without genuinely feeling sorry for your sins? Without realizing that the whole way that you have lived your life in the past was wrong, sinful, and offended God?
What the passage in John 16:8-11 actually says is that the Holy Spirit "will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment." (NKJV). "Godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation" (II Cor. 7:10).
Jesus told His disciples that "repentance and the remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations" (Lu. 24:47) Peter told his audience "Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins" (Acts. 2:38).
How then can you come to Christ for the forgiveness of your sins if you do not feel genuinely sorrow for your sins, and want to turn from them? That does not mean that you are going to try to earn your way into heaven by living a better life. The basis of your salvation is the finished work of Christ on the cross. But repentance means that you want to turn from your former sinful way of life and live for Christ going forward. And you will do this as a result of salvation, and not as its cause.

If in person's heart, they believed they were doing what God wanted how would Almighty condemn them. The answer is, God does not leave us naked, he will always send someone to you with the truth. But the deceived person likes the lie so much that he rejects the truth. This is what is occurring here. I can't believe all the likes Brain is getting. Brain is 100% wrong and he need to be careful. He is going to be responsible his soul and others.

Hebrew word for repentance is teshuvah, meaning return, as if returning back to something you have strayed or looked away from. This would make sense in what John and Jesus was saying about repenting. And what Peter when asked what must we do to be saved. But you can't leave water baptism and say its not required, its actually commanded....why? Because is repentance you turning and changing your mind and ways back towards God, your spirit is literally starting to be born again. So then where is forgiveness of sin if not repentance? Peter said Repent and be baptized in Jesus name for the REMISSION of SINS. What is REMISSION? Remission of sins in baptizing is the forgiveness of sin, pardon, release and cancellation of a debt, deliverance from captivity. The water baptism is a sign of your repentance so you can't say you don't need forgiveness or remission of sin by baptism, its literally commanded. They should be seen as one going together, Repentannce and baptism in Jesus name. And receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Born again of spirit (our spirit repenting) and of water (baptized inns name for forgiveness of sin.). Neither repentance or baptism or receiving the Holy Ghost are works, they are obedience to the word of God. We are therefore saved by Grace lest any man should boast.

It sounds like you’re saying that one who has BELIEVED the gospel of Christ for their eternal salvation, is born of God’s Spirit, justified by Christ’s blood and sealed by the Holy Spirit, can be eternally condemned by sins of their flesh.😢
If so, you are denying that Christ’s shed blood is the propitiation, the ONLY propitiation, for all sin. You’re saying there is another way to be given everlasting life, which is not the gospel of Christ.

    • @billadams6232

As I am a so called "free grace folk" there are a few in the group that believe as you stated but the majority of the ones I know and others that I have had contact with do not. We understand there are consequences if we think the way you mentioned (one such is not loss of eternal life given by God because eternal life is eternal).
First, one needs to have an understanding that once a person trusts Christ alone for salvation we are spiritually born again (John 3). As a child of His we can lose fellowship with God (1 John), miss out on blessings, lose rewards (1 Corin. 3:10b-15) and face the discipline (child training) of our heavenly Father (Hebrews 12:5-6).
Second, because some free grace believers may abuse their freedom in Christ doesn't mean we need to change the salvation message He has given to us in his word.
Scripture is clear that eternal salvation is received by believing the gospel (1 Cor 15: 1-4, Romans 1:16). It is not of works (Romans 4:5, Titus 3:5), it's given as a gift (Romans 6:23b) & received by trusting Christ as Savior.

    • @Learnerofthings
      @Learnerofthings 5 часов назад

@@krissyyoung9264 it means they were never saved in the first place. “Depart from me for I never knew you” is something He will say to people who swore by His name and claimed wonders. People can say anything, but Jesus will know our heart. If you practice sin, you are a slave to sin, he also said. He told us to repent, not continue in sin. His words.

    • @Learnerofthings
      @Learnerofthings 2 часа назад

Repenting is not a work. It’s just following His literal words. It also shows love for God by obeying Him. It’s just evidence of salvation, not the mechanism for it. We are probably having a misunderstanding I think. I think the reality is if we have a true conversion and we are justified by his blood, then we aren’t going to want to sin. The people who swear that they are saved by his blood and continue to sin and have no conviction about it, do not have the Holy Spirit. If you can sin and not feel bad about it then the Holy Spirit is not convicting you which means he’s not with you. That’s what I was saying. And I’m using the proverbial you here not directed at you.

The Jailor in the book of Acts has not been told by the Apostles to repent. Why? Because he already saw and realized the Apostles are servants of the most high and he asked them: Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they responded directly: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved and thy house. So the Jailor already repented and therefore only needed Faith in Christ at that point.
They did not play the Ray Comfort and expose his sins and then say: Now clear up your act and stop lusting after women that you are not married to, stop swearing and do this and that and THEN Christ may accept you.

This mess is too big. Calvinism basically verified what I already believed. I never knew I was Calvinist leaning until it was shown to me. They are a cult. Shame on them for leading people astray. How many are out there suffering, worried sick about their salvation? I was one. I'm not anymore... I pray with all of my heart that Jesus comforts those who live in constant fear. Yes, that is salvation by your performance which is exactly what we are told in Eph 2:8-9 it is not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest a man should boast. I believe repent is as you said, changing our mind to understanding we are sinners in need of a Savior and put our trust in what he did on the cross for us. There have always been sin deniers and they must repent and believe. 1 John 1:5-10 is dealing with sin deniers, calling God a liar. The LGBTQ people belive they are born that way and deny they are in sin, the drunk has been convinced he is ill and therefore cannot help it, thinking it is not of his doing, so he doesn't believe he is in sin, he is told he is ill, they are blinded by the god of this world, and not believing God. Good video.

John teaches belief because actions follow one's beliefs.
Change your mind from believing your ways and believe in God's ways...you don't change your mind and still walk in sin, you change from walking in the flesh to walking in the spirit. Changing one's belief leads to changing one's actions to align with Jesus Christ. Does the Bible teach that drunkards and adulterers will enter into heaven or not? Read Romans chapter 1. Rev 2 & 3 Jesus said the churches need to get their act together or else they are not going to heaven...
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
Rev 3:6 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

In a similar way, I think these so-called 'Men of God' you mentioned keep people confused about their salvation as a way to stay relevant and necessary. Put another way, if people believe that only the 'Man of God' has the answers to their deepest fears and questions, then they become a 'customer' of that 'Man of God' for life.

Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Joh 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
Joh 15:9 As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love.
Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.
Joh 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.
Joh 15:12 This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Brian claims that pastors for years have been preaching repentance wrong, and in some ways, he is right.
The problem is that Brian goes to another extreme of 'easy believism.' The most balanced approach we can take is to teach that repentance is not something you do to obtain salvation but that it is evidence that the Holy Spirit is doing a life changing transformation ongoing work of righteousness in the believer.

"How you describe and define 'repentance' totally dictates what I just said" ~Brian, @faithonfireministries
So, true. Let the Bible interpret the Bible.
Repent (according to the dictionary): to feel sorry, self-reproachful, or contrite for past conduct; regret or be conscience-stricken about a past action
Repent (according to the Bible): Change your mind
According to the dictionary, 'repentance' is an emotional experience. Remorse doesn't necessarily result in biblical repentance (change of mind). Let the Bible interpret the Bible. Don't let the dictionary or culture determine what the Bible says.
Repentance is a life long journey - as we grow closer to Jesus and are transformed into His image, from glory to glory (2 Corinthians 3:18).

I agree repentance for salvation is a change of heart and mind when you hear the amazing Gospel of Salvation, but I believe you must realize you are a sinner in need of a Savior or you don't really know why you need it. Then once you are a true believer and received the Holy Spirit, I don't think the Holy Spirit makes you feel guilty. The Holy Spirit reminds you af your righteousness in Christ and encourages you to follow Him and continue to repent. Change your mind and heart of wrong beliefs you might have. I used to think the extreme guilt came from Satan. But now am realizing it is our own self condemning/judgemental thoughts. And if we are self condemning/judging, we will do the same to others. We must keep our eyes on Christ. We will fail, especially when we think we won't, but God never fails. The more you realize you are forgiven by Christ, the more you will love and forgive others:
"Therefore I say unto thee, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little." - Luke 7:47

This is a great teaching brother! One need look no further to see the true gospel than to look at the juxtaposition between how Paul treats the Corinthians, who he refers to as brothers and sisters even though they are practicing just about the worst sins one could imagine, and the Galatians, who are practicing a form of works righteousness, and whom Paul never refers to as brothers and sisters. He actually says you foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you? Sometimes I wonder if these works righteousness folks are reading the same Bible as I am, because I don't know how you read the Holy Scriptures and come to the conclusions that they do.

Makes me wonder if there's some sort of Christian Mandela effect going on. Repentance has nothing to do with turning from sin but is a re-think or change of mind agreeing with what God says about provision of salvation through His Son that is appropriated through faith plus nothing else.

The basic meaning of the verb, metanoia (to repent), is to change one’s mind (A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature). It can either be seen as a positive change or negative. Either way, repentance always seems to be associated with a change in behavior. This is especially true in the Bible, both OT and NT. The following definition bears this out:
metanoia: to change one’s way of life as the result of a complete change of thought and attitude with regard to sin and righteousness (Louw and Nida, Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament Based on Semantic Domains).

And because of that, he rebuked them for their sins and exhorted them to stop sinning and be good witnesses for Christ, but he did not condemn them by saying they were not true believers who are unsaved.

[28]Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
[29]Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
[30]For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
    Salvation is now assured not based on our works, but we're assured by placing our trust in the complete work of Christ as stated below;
    Romans 3:19-20
[19]Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.
[20]Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
    Romans 4:5
[5]But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

Eternal salvation is not received by "turning toward Jesus"; this is a human work and the Bible is clear that salvation is not by our works (Romans 4:5, Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9), that it's a gift of God (Romans 6:23b, Eph. 2:8-9), received by believing on (trusting in) Christ alone as Savior (Acts 16:30-31, John 3:16).
Repentance related to salvation in the original language means a change of mind only.

    Act 26:20
But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.
What are people changing their minds about, is it not sin? The word Turn is also translated Convert.
    Act 3:19
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;...
[2Co 7:9-10 KJV] 9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.
Whenever the Scripture says, " Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved", It is never intended to mean you believe without Conviction of Sin, or Godly sorrow for your sins. Both are the work of the Holy Spirit. Has Nothing to do with Works of the Law.

I hear what you are saying. Yes we agree that we cannot earn our salvation and it is a gift. In fact Jesus Christ is our salvation. BUT, Do you believe you can loose your salvation? You can walk away from God and reject Jesus if you choose. What about Forgiveness. Jesus was emphatic: IF you do not forgive others God will not forgive you. So repentance is not just a 'one time thing'. Just like faith; discipleship and repentance: It is a ongoing walk. When you know some of the greek tenses you know that believing God and discipleship is in the present tense. Repentance is not just a change of mind just like faith is not just of the mind. It involves the will; the heart and the mind. God knows who are His children but God expects there to be 'fruits of repentance'. That's NOT a work. That is just the outworking of the Holy Spirit working and changing peoples hearts.
