At the beginning of the episode Mrs. Flood does not recognize the TARDIS. She blames the landlord (was that the landlord?) for putting it there in her way. At the end when the landlord sees it disappear, she gives the coy line don't you recognize a tardis. That indicates that something has changed in her timeline. She has now met the doctor earlier in her own life, but later in his timestream. She still could be Ruby's mother but at a minimum she will meet the doctor and know what the tardis is.
@@JimCarner I liked the feeling, the introduction of the 15th Doctor, of Ruby and her family. A very warm and cozy episode, still full of camp monsters and emotional depth. And the chemistry was great between the 15th Doctor and Ruby. A good start.
Felt too creepy. Also notice her change of character at the end. Like someone "off-ed" the real one and replaced her like a master of disguise. Creepy.
Susan is the old lady and the mother of Ruby who is the Doctors great grand daughter. The doctor said the goblins were not time travelers then chased them back in time.
I have two thories about Ruby and Mrs. Flood. First, Ruby is her own mother and she left herself at the church so this can happen. And next, Mrs Flood IS Ruby, for whatever reason Ruby is stuck in the past and so had to have a new name.
Mrs Flood reminds me of the beginning of Torchwood episode with the team chasing an alien up and down the road, and the old woman just commenting "Bl@@dy Torchwood"
She broke the fourth wall. Has that ever happened before in Doctor Who before, besides the Angels? I'm thinking it has to be related to the Toymaker, given his speech at the end of the 60th, and a multiversal character would very easily lead to a Deadpool-esque shenanigans Edit: Thanks for listing out the various 4th wall breaks. Knew I could count on this fandom to have them all within hours!
It's not something new. The very 1st Doctor did it, with a Christmas greeting direct to camera in the missing Christmas story 'The feast of Steven', which had no context within the story itself, and truly broke the 4th wall. A lot of others could be classed as a theatrical aside, often as if speaking their thoughts out loud rather than addressing the TV viewers. Tom Baker's 4th Doctor did it numerous times, the 7th did in a moment in 'Remembrance of the Daleks', the 8th did in the TV movie, the 12th did in 'Before the flood'. It has also been used with numerous supporting characters over the past decades, usually the villain in close up making some threat. Very recently though, the 14th Doctor broke the wall in the introduction to the first of his three specials, acting as a narrator to get new viewers up to speed with Donna Noble's storyline.
@@MrDiddyDee oooh, good to know, thanks! That's more times than I thought it would have been, but still infrequent enough that it has me suspicious lol
Someone else beat me to it - But the Forth Wall has been broken Many Times in Doctor Who... Most often in Classic Era with the First time being William Hartnell turning to the Camera and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas... Here is an idea for you all though - We KNOW that now Disney are involved, This is SEAON 1... Now, This wont answer who Mrs. Flood is... But how do you keep "Purists" like myself Happy... But at the same time make changes without P**sing people off... ? QUANTUM MECHANICAL THEORY - The Doctor has since the 60th Crashed into a Tree and interrupted Issac Newton, changing "Gravity" to "Mavity"... He has landed at the End of the Universe where he invoked a Superstition... That Superstition HAS TAKEN A HOLD as Kate Stewart ordered that the Box from teh Toy Maker be surrounded by Salt... We know Parallel Universes Exist in the Whoniverse but The Doctor CANNOT normally travel to them... BUT HIS ACTIONS CAN INADVERTANTLY CREATE THEM! And that is what we have now... An Alternate Timeline! A Parallel Whoniverse! How does that work? Well, We know RTD as said he want to remove Davros from his Life Support Chair... I came up with ideas on how he could do that but eventually lead to it still being canon.. But why? If Time has changed and we are now in a new Timeline... Davros DOES NOT NEED TO BE IN A LIFE SUPOPRT CHAIR... The OG Davros is STILL CANON, but we are not on the same timeline! The Master DESTROYED the Time Lords Creating the Cyber Time Lords... But this being a new Timeline, Galifrey and the Timelords COUDL STILL EXIST! And I guarantee that Disney WANT them to exist! This also means we have NUMEORUS POSSIBILITIES!!! As the Canon can be whatever RTD wants it to be... Including, Mrs. Flood is an OLD RIVER SONG... The Events of The Library changed, She never died there - But that was still the last entry in her diary as it was the last time she saw The Doctor... Which would explain her being SHOCKED seeing the TARDIS dematerialise as they were never supposed to meet again... And the Familiarity at the end! Its FAN THEORY of course... But the idea of a Parallel Whoniverse I think is 100% accurate... So, Whatever theory you can think of for Mrs. Flood... There is a very high possibility of it being CORRECT... As if I am right about the Parallel, Anything already established can be rewritten without upsetting anyone - Everything is Canon!
Flood = large amount of something, legion =large amount of somethingz, could be be part of the Toymaker legions? Actually what I was more curious about was why the doctor was following ruby around to begin with?
It certainly looks like it'll be the seasons 'motif' and probably get revealed in the climax. She already knows what a Tardis is so expect more clues a la 'Vote for Saxon' in Tennant's era.
It’s interesting that Mrs Flood says to camera, Haven’t you seen a Tardis before, not haven’t you seen the Tardis before. This fits with her not recognising that blue police box as a Tardis early in the episode, and only realises later what it is. So, I’m guessing she hasn’t encountered the Doctor before, but may have encountered a different time lord or the Master before. Also possible that she is a time lord that has been stranded on Earth for the last 50 years.
I loved this episode! Ncuti to me has a very hip lite hearted Tom Baker-ish approach to his Doctor. Super intelligent and wise yet still youthful and carefree. That whole what is the point in being an adult if you can't be childish. I'm loving it!
my first thought was that she is Polly. Anneke Wills is still alive. she is like 82 or something. at some point, the character got married and is now a widow. she remembers quite well her time in the TARDIS with the first and second Doctors.
I think that ever since clara mentioned "the woman in the shop" in capaldi's debut that they end up revealing being missy all doctor who fans are expecting to catch any secondary character to be a big reveal, when they mention someone passing like "the man that stack wrong donna's boxes" or "the policeman making a report" we expect them to make a return. Also personally i always expect doctor who to reference itself more, for example the doctor seeing a time travelling crack in ruby's apartment roof i wanted a clearer reference to amy's house; but i know that it would be bad writing to point it with that much emphasis.
Isn't rhyming technically called a coincidence, the words endings just happen so sound the same etc. They were building on the goblins desires to help distract them. Mesmerized swaying and dancing. Like the snakes and foxes of wheel of time.
It's obvious, Melody Pond goes to River song goes to (somebody) Flood, also Flood comes with a storm, Mrs On coming storm AKA River song Mrs The Doctor
Because a pond can become a river and a river can become a flood, just as a song can become a melody. Like wise if the doctor is the metaphorical on coming storm in the history of the Daleks, a storm is accompanied by a flood and this flood is a Mrs. and Who is the doctor's wife? Also the first words Mrs Flood says to the new doctor is... Hello SWEET(pause) heart, close enough to hello sweetie for you? @@HolsovanUltimate
Mrs. Flood commented on not seeing a Tardis for 50 years. She knows what a Tardis is. Going back to early 70s, Jo Grant was the companion at the time. Could be her.
Rewatching parts again, Mrs.Flood changed from being so startled seeing the TARDIS dematerialize that she dropped her groceries to calmly sitting and watching Ruby. What’s with that? Did something happen to the timeline that it changed her?🤔
Ruby dropped her shopping, Mrs. Flood didn't. She was Just complaining about the TARDIS being in her way and claiming that she hadnt seen one for 50 years. Which would be around 1970..
Maybe she was shocked because she didn’t realize it was the tardis before it vanished in front of her? And she was grumpy because she saw that tardis before and thought it was a common police box, it brought back memories
It’s hilarious to me how people are saying there’s no audience for this new era… this new era is, if anything, a reflection of changing times - as a screenwriting/film student - the script wasn’t perfect in terms of pacing but everything else is very upbeat, captures the core of new who mixed with the new world and perfectly acted. Unfortunately what people should understand is that showrunners can’t write FOR YOU, they write for the majority for the most part - if that isn’t you anymore or it doesn’t reflect your views - that’s ok! Don’t cry about it, just, let’s say ‘regenerate’ yourself and move on to new things, that’s in essence what we as humans and Doctor who is all about - constantly changing and adapting to the changing of the times :)
The other thing that a lot of the whingers keep forgetting is that the show's target audience is, and always has been, kids & teenagers. And younger people see the world differently. I'm in my 50s and have always been a progressive lefty, but my teenage kids are WAAY more progressive than me. Doctor Who is made for them. Not me.
I think Mrs. Flood will be revealed as "The One Who Waits". I'd love it if she was Susan, but how would Susan (who was left in the mid 22nd Century without a TARDIS) travel back to the early 21st Century? And why would she? Also, I don't want to see anyone portraying Susan orher than Carol Ann Ford.
In some stories of the timewar Galifrey recalled all timelords who had been off world to galifrey to fight in the timewar Susan was made an advisor to offer info on how the humans in the 22nd century drove the Daleks from earth.
@@dieZera No.....there were a number of Big Finish audios featuring Susan, but most of those had her living in the late 22nd/early 23rd Century. One of the boxed sets had her helping the Time Lords....but nothing about her returning to the 20th Century (at least not that I recall).
"Could Mrs Flood be the master?" was my first, knee jerk, thought but River Song somehow makes more sense. whatever the answer i'm excited to find out.
Agree it is great to have Doctor Who back on Christmas Day. I thought it was pretty good, but it usually takes me a while to get used to a new Doctor. The episode title gave me a Wester Drumlins feeling, so was a tad disappointed that it wasn’t in it that much. And the crack looked a little bit like the one in Amy’s wall.
Thought the crack was a very deliberate throwback to that, complete with Ruby's foster mother weeping and not knowing why, the way Amy did when Rory was written out of history.
You know, I have my issues with it - It was WAY TOO OBVIOUSLY INSPIRED BY BOTH GREMLINS AND LABYRINTH... I half Expected a CGI David Bowie (God Rest Him!) when the Goblins started that Musical number! - BUT... It was FUN, It was ENTERTAINING, It had the right amount of Mystery to get me thinking and teh acting was ON POINT! So I agree with you... It is a Great Start to a New Era! Yes there were flaws, Some more obvious than others... But I have to grade things by how well they di to keep me entertained... On an arbitrary out of 10 scale, I would give it a 7... And that's because the Inspirations were WAY TOO BLATANT... But that's still a GOOD 7 as it did Entertain me!
MY THEORY Mrs. Flood IS AN ELDERLY RUBY. And the lady who is leaving baby Ruby IS Ruby. After all, a time traveller, won't necessarily view experiences in a LINEAR order. So, the Doctor WON'T have recognised Mrs. Flood, because, for him, this is the 1ST time he's encountered Ruby. But, for Mrs. Flood, she will be experiencing everything from the opposite perspective. She will have known FULL WELL who the Doctor is. At some point she will find herself becoming the elderly lady, Mrs. Flood, she remembers knowing when she first met the Doctor. A full circle. The Ruby we know is at the start of her time with the Doctor. Mrs. Flood is after travelling with the Doctor. Maybe she ends up getting stuck in her own past or something similar? Maybe zapped by a weeping Angel? Plus, her mannerisms, voice and appearance do seem very close to Ruby. Another case of the Doctor being at a disadvantage in terms of knowing what's going on and going to happen. She could've got stranded in the past or simply splintered in time? David
very good episode and in watching it i was thinking wouldn't it be a great twist is that the reason ruby Sunday is a foundling is her mom is rose Tyler i.e. the bad wolf who was in another dimension or time with a time lord variant
Mrs Flood is a really cool extra to a very good episode - Ncuti and Milly were fantastic. Breaking the fourth wall, I guess is just a bit of Christmas fun but it is interesting. Doctor Who has done it before, in terms of direct to camera monologues. Peter Capaldi’s who wrote Beethoven’s Fifth? is a classic! And Anita Dobson is playing Mrs Flood! (Quick disclosure, watched my first Doctor Who in the early 60s, and was a massive EastEnders fan for the first 10 years or so. Is Dr Legg still in Albert Square? )
@@JimCarner Doctor Who has had creatures like time beetles, sentient oil, pigmen, giant wasps, giant ants, moth people, a robot made of candy, and a skin trampoline. But time traveling goblins are where you draw the line?
Like with Jodie, I expected Ncuti to be a little more whimsical. But he's very likeable. Agree the pacing could be a bit quicker. More quick cuts in the editing. Not in LOVE with the random singing but it didn't really hurt anything. They clearly want us to think Mrs. Flood is the woman who dropped off Ruby.
Mrs Flood could be The Doctor's adopted mother. Or Ruby's mother, when young lady was walking away after dropping off Ruby. Could be the Rani, Romana, Morbius, the Galifrey president, The Doctor's actual mother who dropped him/her off as a little girl by the portal
Mrs Flood? Susan an Romana were my first impressions. By the end of the episode, my instinct says she's Rose Tyler, likely Ruby's bio-mom. Prolly quite a longshot.
Duuuuuuuuuuuudes did you not hear who the mothers name was of Ruby, it was Clara, now wether that was actual Clara ( past companion of smith and capaldi ) that broke free of living within the moment and maybe the old lady at the end that recognised a TARDIS is Clara old age or the Rani? or the Drag queen villain old age? or Rose old old age from the other universe, i mean who knows anything is possible right.
I love Doctor Who & I think Ncuti was great but the direction of this episode was all over the place!! So much thrown at a wall & see what sticks. The pacing was like an express train!! The Goblins can time travel, why & how? They are impaled on a church spire & seemingly burst into flames and vanish, no reasoning & somehow Ruby survives & Anita Dobson breaking the fourth wall to probably come out as "The one who waits.."/red herring was too much. I can't lie for my enjoyment theres a lot of improvement needed, theres a great episode in here somewhere. I'm in shock 🤯
Or maybe the is the daughter from Song and the 12th doctor. Pond, River, Flood... We don't know how River died, maybe when the give birth. And the Doctor maybe want it to be a secret to save her. He could even deletet from his memories. This also could even explain why the next doc was a woman (mother). And why it regenerated in 10 the first time the doctor meets River Song. And this all family. The even maybe the villian be couse she's mad about her father left her. It even would make sense that the is mad for the 14/15th doctor cares more about a "stepdaughter / baby" than about his own flesh and blood.
interesting to see a Doctor be this animated. Just worry that if you don't match that BOUNCEY nature with some solid seriousness the Doctor will just be a buffoon. It's also weird to see the Doctor just MURDER the Goblin King remorselessly.
Mrs. Flood breaking the fourth wall and speaking to the audience reminds me of another character who did the same thing: Oswin/Clara, who has her own time machine and is unaccounted for. Hmmm.
Re Mrs Flood- will "breaking the 4th wall" become a Storytelling device in the 15th Doctor's series?! (I DEFINITELY needed some Whovian Reviewers to help me make sense of "... Ruby Road" !!! Just watched it. The two main characters are fine and it was ideal for children, mostly. That said, RTD brought Dr Who back to life in 2005 and he's going to have to do a lot better than this if he doesn't want to kill it off again. He has, previously and often, proven himself capable of so much more. Here's hoping we see it.
@@JimCarner I said "mostly". In any case, if you don't think children enjoy scary stories, you're wrong. Dr Who has been full of jeopardy over its 60 years; some of it not happily resolved. Indeed, how often, in discussing memories of it, do adults tell you they covered their eyes, or hid behind the sofa, when watching it as children - but watch it they did. You're clearly something of a dullard, so I'll end this here.

And with the Show now Starting form SEASON 1, This is now a Parallel Time Line... The BBC NEVER wanted Doctor Who back, They wanted Russel T. Davis and Steven Moffat... The BBC (Bleedin' Bodge-Up Company) would rather throw Money at EastEnders despite it only having 1.26 Million viewers per episode for the last 8 years (The only reason it gets 4 million weekly viewers is that its on 4 days a week) than invest in shows people want to see... The BBC do not want and have constantly screwed over anything Sci-Fi Related... Oh they will buy shows in, but then they mess with the schedules to ruin them... Notable Victims other than DW, Farscape, Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Star Trek TNG, They WONT rerun Blakes 7... Disney - Ever the Media Conglomerate and always looking for new ways to profit however, They do have an interest in DW as it does make money! The issue is they will want to market it to KIDS! Two things need to happen to make DW work, And yes - You are 100% right - DITCH RTD AND HIS TEAM! Also, KEEP CHRIS CHIBNALL FAR, FAR AWAY!!! Hand the series to someone like Pemberton and Shearsmith... Who can actually make it a DRAMA... And tell Disney if they want DW to survive, Keep the funding but otherwise STAY THE FUGG OUT as it needs to be a DRAMA SERIES, NOT A KIDS SHOW! Believe it or not dude.. We are actually both on the same page... The only thing we actually disagree on is how god this episode was as we have very differing perspectives, You clearly wanted more Drama, I was looking for Whimsy!
Pacing issues are a big concern for the rest of the season. There are too many scenes where everything slows down way too much and nothing of importance is said or done, just characters awkwardly looking around or the actors just looking really lost and confused as to what to do in a scene, especially physically. It just felt off from time to time. I hope the more time the actors spend together really helps make their chemistry feel more natural. A lot of it felt very forced. I really want to like Ncuti’s Doctor as he seems really genuine in his performance and interviews but I’m still on the fence moreso from a directional and script standpoint. Other than that it was okay.
If we pretend, it wasn’t supposed to be Dr Who, I could just about accept it as a Christmas special for those who like a funny musicals but it’s not for me. If this is the new Doctor, I’m going to call it a day, sorry but it’s too dumbing-down for my tastes.
And here comes the flood of hateful comments from people who are so intent on focusing on appearances they miss out on the lovely heart of the show. It’s sad to be so angry about change or being exposed to different perspectives, you lose out on opening your mind up, but everyone to their own choices I guess. I can’t wait for the new season, and I love this pairing already ❤

Edit: Thanks for listing out the various 4th wall breaks. Knew I could count on this fandom to have them all within hours!
It’s happened a few times, classic and new series
That's more times than I thought it would have been, but still infrequent enough that it has me suspicious lol
capaldi's doctor also did it
Someone else beat me to it - But the Forth Wall has been broken Many Times in Doctor Who...
Swarm
It certainly looks like it'll be the seasons 'motif' and probably get revealed in the climax. She already knows what a Tardis is so expect more clues a la 'Vote for Saxon' in Tennant's era.
We will find out who Mrs Flood is in 4 years time 😂
An RTD story which is complex but with a too quick and too easy solution? I'm shocked.... SHOCKED I tell you!
Also possible that she is a time lord that has been stranded on Earth for the last 50 years.
its either older Ruby, or Ruby's mother who left Ruby at church
I loved this episode! Ncuti to me has a very hip lite hearted Tom Baker-ish approach to his Doctor. Super intelligent and wise yet still youthful and carefree. That whole what is the point in being an adult if you can't be childish. I'm loving it!
my first thought was that she is Polly. Anneke Wills is still alive. she is like 82 or something. at some point, the character got married and is now a widow. she remembers quite well her time in the TARDIS with the first and second Doctors.
Perhaps mrs flood is ruby's mum but honestly her scene at the end makes me wonder about mrs. Saxon.
River, Pond, Flood all have something to do with water. It could be a red herring, but they always surprise me.
She's too old to be Ruby's mum.
Same, also the thing near the end of The Giggle where someone picks up the gold tooth (which has the Master sealed inside) made me think of Mrs Saxon
@@JimCarnerYou really don't like that theory do you?
@@JimCarner No point. I'm just a troll who is good at triggering sensitive idiots.
And a missed opportunity of the doctor understanding what lulu was talking. He speaks baby after all
Key quote : The mavity is transferred to the gloves
My early bet is that mrs flood is river song.
I really hope not
If river comes back it has to be Alex Kingston
Isn't rhyming technically called a coincidence, the words endings just happen so sound the same etc. They were building on the goblins desires to help distract them. Mesmerized swaying and dancing. Like the snakes and foxes of wheel of time.
Ruby's mum has to be Gwen. Torchwood reboot!!!! Though the figure didn't have Gwen's gait. More Amelia ponds gait.
Check out bbc audio stories for potential clues of mrs flood.
@@JimCarner I just want more torchwood, trying to put it out there. 😀
@@JimCarner can't be amber, maybe Esther. Or a better idea Abby from primeval, bring in another great crossover show!!!
It's obvious, Melody Pond goes to River song goes to (somebody) Flood, also Flood comes with a storm, Mrs On coming storm AKA River song Mrs The Doctor
Wait hold on...why does that make sense....
So far, this is the most plausible hypothesis.
Are the Goblins related to the "Faeries" from the Torchwood episode "Small Worlds"?
Mrs. Flood commented on not seeing a Tardis for 50 years. She knows what a Tardis is. Going back to early 70s, Jo Grant was the companion at the time. Could be her.
Jo Grant appeared in the 2022 Centenary Special. We know what she looks like, that's not her
Rewatching parts again, Mrs.Flood changed from being so startled seeing the TARDIS dematerialize that she dropped her groceries to calmly sitting and watching Ruby. What’s with that? Did something happen to the timeline that it changed her?🤔
Ruby dropped her shopping, Mrs. Flood didn't. She was Just complaining about the TARDIS being in her way and claiming that she hadnt seen one for 50 years. Which would be around 1970..
@@dharusiokay9426when the TARDIS dematerislized infront ofn Mrs Flood she dropped her shopping.
Maybe she was shocked because she didn’t realize it was the tardis before it vanished in front of her? And she was grumpy because she saw that tardis before and thought it was a common police box, it brought back memories
@@dharusiokay9426there was also a scene where as the TARDIS dematerialized you could see mrs flood behind it and dropping her shopping bags in shock.
Nah, it's always had this energy when there's a new doctor and new companion.
@@Phantom19913 she had no tardis, so she would have beeen unable to follow this call

"Could Mrs Flood be the master?" was my first, knee jerk, thought but River Song somehow makes more sense. whatever the answer i'm excited to find out.
I thought that too at first, but then I thought that would be too much like Missys reveal.
River's story is done and finished. I hope they don't go back to her
Agree it is great to have Doctor Who back on Christmas Day. I thought it was pretty good, but it usually takes me a while to get used to a new Doctor. The episode title gave me a Wester Drumlins feeling, so was a tad disappointed that it wasn’t in it that much. And the crack looked a little bit like the one in Amy’s wall.
tbc wasn’t hoping for another angels episode, just maybe a spooky old house.
Also I wasn’t a massive fan of the goblins, although the king was alright.
Thought the crack was a very deliberate throwback to that, complete with Ruby's foster mother weeping and not knowing why, the way Amy did when Rory was written out of history.
@@wbmac1958 True although the Doctor was also crying despite not knowing why and still remembering her. Dunno :)
A good start to the new era. I think some people take doctor who to seriously. It's just light hearted family entertainment.
Mrs Flood
Is
A. Susan
B.the master
C.the rani
D.an older ruby
E.ruby's mum
F.romana
G. River Song's sister.
H. A new character
Mrs. Flood is actually Romana.
Is Dr Legg still in Albert Square? )
I loved it, even the musical section, I feel you can get away with that in a Christmas episode.
Longshot theory - Mrs flood could end up being related to the waters of mars villain. The flood... water can wait etc.
I think she's the new big bad of the season, just in a different form.
It's Carla. Her name was Carla
I liked the episode overall but I agree with the pacing issues. There’s a moment where it just slowssssss down.
I miss Steven Moffat
There's got to be a link to River Song.
interesting to see a Doctor be this animated. Just worry that if you don't match that BOUNCEY nature with some solid seriousness the Doctor will just be a buffoon. It's also weird to see the Doctor just MURDER the Goblin King remorselessly.
I think Mrs Flood is future Ruby who left 50 years ago
Mrs. Flood breaking the fourth wall and speaking to the audience reminds me of another character who did the same thing: Oswin/Clara, who has her own time machine and is unaccounted for. Hmmm.
mrs. Flood could be Joe Grant. But if she is "the one who waits", she might be the old lady from village of angels.
Why is everyone trying to read into it. It’s so much fun. It’s a bit silly. It’s refreshing. I want to enjoy the ride and not analyse it to much.
I feel like Mrs Flood might actually be Ruby after she’s done traveling with the doctor.
The mavity universe has it's own fantastical rules
There’s a reason Ruby has no family; they’re in a different universe. They have no footprint in Ruby’s universe.
Mrs flood is Susan I think
Re Mrs Flood- will "breaking the 4th wall" become a Storytelling device in the 15th Doctor's series?! (I DEFINITELY needed some Whovian Reviewers to help me make sense of "... Ruby Road" !!! Namely, A L O T of storypoints, mystery characters, musical embellishments, all JAMmed into one episode?!! Whew! Thanks for your perspective!) Some Old WHO stuff, I missed. Some New WHO stuff I'm ANTICIPATING!!!
Mrs Flood is probably a new regeneration of Susan
Could ruby be rose daughter or ruby might be Susan biological granddaughter?
The lady who picked up the toymakers hand is probably it
Mrs Flood is the Third Doctor in disguise, as in The Green Death.
@@JimCarner That's clearly a minority opinion. Dr Who is not all he has ever done.
I think Ruby is the Doctor's grand daughter.
I have two theories...
Either she is The Doctor's Granddaughter OR she is a older Ruby, after some Wibbly Wobbly Timey Wimey!!!
Also, *series. We're not American, no matter how much Netflix tries to ignore that.

@@ArmyGuy121 No, it will be season 1 on Disney+, because, you know, it's an American company. It's still being called series 14 and the BBC should still use the word "series" on their iPlayer. They're not right, they're just being lazy and giving in to the americanisation.
Mrs. Flood = Dodo Chaplet. Same changing accent. 🦤🦤🦤🦤🦤🦤
Wasn't she married to dirty Den
I am only 39 Seconds in and I agree with James... My thoughts are very mixed....
Very early in the episode, I am sorry but I could not help but think "THEY HAVE REMADE GREMLINS!!!!" and then later on when they say its Goblins "OH MY GOD THEY HAVE REMADE LABYRINTH!" - Only to later realise they had Literally Remade Gremlins and Labyrinth and I am just shocked they did not include a CGI David Bowie (God rest him! LEGEND!!!)
Now, I am not complaining exactly... Both of those Movies are all time favourites of mine... but when the inspirations for an idea are SO DAMN OBVIOUS... It can be a bit painful, Especially with recent controversies about Plagiarism ... And NO, This is NOT plagiarism - But I am sure some RTD critics will use that word!
Overall, I enjoyed it - Millie Gibson and Nchuti Gatwa were FANTASTIC, God I even enjoyed the Davina McCall Cameo... I actually feel sorry for her as it seems just about any TV show she is in, she gets hurt or killed (DEAD SET) ... LOL!
I have my own Fan Theory as to what's currently happening - As MAVITY has come up again, I believe that to help make changes without upsetting "Purists" like myself... And with the Show now Starting form SEASON 1, This is now a Parallel Time Line... And that works, It means a clean slate where you can change whatever you wish but it does not change the established Canon of 60 years... MAVITY being one clue - Also in The Giggle... Kate Stewart ordered that the Toymakers Box be surrounded in SALT...
... Yeah, This is NOT the Same Whoniverse We have been watching since 2005... Everything has changed!
@@JimCarner Alternate Timeline means that everything we have already established still exists... :P
Disney have a History of running two Seasons and cancelling a show... This could be Planning on the part of RTD and the BBC, who by the way - The BBC got the money, They licensed DW to Disney... Not RTD, The £3.9 BILLION in TV license Fees is not enough for them! - If Disney do follow their normal pattern... The BBC can simply say "Disney's Doctor Who is NOT Canon... We are going back to DW PRIME!"
It about control dude... None of us know what's coming with Disney, We can only guess... Two Time lines means TWO Canons... They can ERASE the Disney Timeline if things break down!

That actually my biggest issue with this Christmas Episode... It did it job, It was Fun, It was Entertaining, but when 5 Minutes in I am screaming "GREMILNS" and then "LABYRINTH" and even expecting a CGI David Bowie...
... Let alone it airing just mere weeks after James Somerton got exposed as a serial Plagiarist - The LGBTQ+ Community is going to be taking a lot of harsh criticism over anything that looks "Copied".
I mean, I get it - Disney OWNS Labyrinth and Disney, so they can "Borrow" from them easy enough... And it made an entertaining episode... It was just a bit too "In your Face" and the Timing was badly affected by a Dodgy RUclips Knobhead!
On a Scale of 1/10... This would be a 7/10 for me... It was good enough as an Intro to Nchuti Gatwa as The Doctor... But the show needs to be hitting 8/10 at least to win fans over.
If the first Episode in the new Season is NOT better than this... If it is not an 8/10 - I fear for the future!

I know beyond doubt that Nerdrotic and Bowlestrek will leap straight on that to accuse RTD of Plagiarism and Lazy Writing... Because they are about as original as My Arse after a Vindaloo! Which, Yeah - That's RTD with this episode as well...
The only reason I even let it pass is I LIKE GREMLINS AND LABYRINTH... That being said, I am getting REALLY ANNOYED that Pro-RTD Fans are IGNORING this obvious "Copying / Inspiration"
"On a Scale of 1/10... This would be a 7/10 for me..."
Bloody hell, then you must be VERY easily amused.
Yeah, I am... LOL! I dont deny that... But it depends on what you are looking for from a "Christmas Show"... I look for something Light Hearted, Not too serious and a bit of escapist fun... It ticked all those boxes...
... In addition, It also converted my mother who has refused to watch Nu-Who since Tennant left! She did NOT like Matt Smith and she HATED Jodie... "I am not watching now they have made the Doctor a Woman!!!"
I will be honest - The fact it did "Rip Off" Gremlins and Labyrinth is part of what entertained me... As I LOVE those Movies...
... But going forwards, I want Doctor Who to be what it was back in Classic Era - FUGGING SCARY!!!! Nu-Who has NOT scared me since The Empty Child or Blink... I get annoyed when people say "Oh buts its a Kids Show" - NO ITS NOT! IT WAS NEVER A KIDS SHOW... And that is what I feel is one of its weaknesses right now and why I agree with you when you say:
"The BBC needs to sack RTD, his crew, and all the morons who commission this garbage, and then employ people who know how to write good scripts.
The people behind The League of Gentlemen and Black Mirror would be good for starters."
ABSOLUTLY! Doctor Who was a SCI FI DRAMA... But hey are trying to play to KIDS... The Inside Number 9 Crew, Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton I feel would be PERFECT!!! They do know how to make both Scary and Whimsical and make it work without it being overbearing...
I genuinely believe if they had Wrote this episode, Even with its obvious inspirations, This would have been and easy 10/10 episode - They are that good good at Whimsical...
My final words... Some I have echoed before and why I think Disney have stuck a hand in... So many Whovians Disagree with me but those who know, we know...
... Russel T. Davis was not just "Wanted" because of his success with SKINS... He and Steven Moffat were sought after because they had 4 MASSIVE AWARD WINING SHOWS for CHANNEL 4 - Including Queer as Folk...
The BBC desperately wanted them both and said they would give anything to sign RTD... Davis has even said in an interview which I believe you can find on RUclips - "I said, Ok let me have Doctor Who as I knew they would never say yes to that... And they did!"
Older ruby surely
If we pretend, it wasn’t supposed to be Dr Who, I could just about accept it as a Christmas special for those who like a funny musicals but it’s not for me. If this is the new Doctor, I’m going to call it a day, sorry but it’s too dumbing-down for my tastes.

The obvious answer is that she's a Pond. Maybe too obvious so maybe there's a fakeout and she ends up being the Rani or Romana or even Susan
The sillyness from the 80s is still there. Its a stigma that just wont go away
Loved it, the older woman was obviously a character or actress from the past. Ppl rly are stupid if they didn't notice. Her voice sounded very familiar to me .....
People are stupid if they didn't remember hearing her voice before? Kinda extreme.
the actor playing Mrs Flood has never been on Doctor Who before so... whoever recognized her voice as a past character or actress is full of shite.
Susan or River Song is my theory
It's Iris.
I’m assuming Mrs. Flood is Ruby’s mother.
The rueturn of Romana?
I liked the episode. Enjoyed the chemistry between the two leads. But felt it was a bit off here and there. ??
Oh come on. We know EXACTLY what RTD does. Sets up a soapy style "fam". Then riffs on that.
I enjoyed it but I know many that didnt .
Hmmmm ! Mrs Flood ???
Maybe a River has caused a flood ????
On the other hand maybe it Susan Forman regenerated :)
Has there ever been a returning companion not played by the same original actor?
Hmm... Romana regenerated after The Key of Time from Mary Tamm to Lalla Ward, so there's that. For other companions however there wouldn't be much point in bringing them back unless they were played by the same actors.
@wbmac1958 right, which is why I think she's not likely to be Susan or any other previous companion.
Theres one thing I know that floods... a river.
Mrs flood is the Rani
Mrs Flood might be The Master. He is good at fooling people he is just an ordinary person while making devise plans
Jenny!!! I hope.
Not the master but… either Omega or “The Rani”
Ruby isn't from earth
Mrs flood is Joe grant.
@@JimCarner ok. She didn’t have a gold tooth. But she knows what a Tardis is. Such fun
I think its the rani
I think she’s ruby mother
MRS FLOOD IS A ROMANA OR THE RANI
