I felt kind of bad for the little guy, he went through so much and it seemed as if his sacrifice and pain in the end, was the thing that helped them evolve. That seems like a never ending theme for life in general. RIP Cute little bone dinosaur cat lizard robot thing.
Notice how he seems to be rebuilt from a glass like material. Maybe he was rebuilt.

The filmmaker who created this film is an absolute genius. I watched the entire film with my eyes glued to the screen. The story and attention to detail is amazing. I certainly believe that it would take one person 10 years to create this film; the end result is a superb. I will definitely watch this a few more times.
Evolution to a higher life form to cope with the changing environment.
All metal is corroding, but silica/glass is the next step up the ladder.

Initially I thought it was CGI. To do stop motion you must have some kind of OCD or nerves of steel. I would have smashed everything with a sledgehammer the first 10 minutes of trying. But the result is majestic.

Beads are glass and similar.
A fantastic combination of kinetic sculpture, mechanical engineering, stop motion animation and story telling. I can believe this probably did take ten years to put together.

As a person who has worked with "parts" that look like the ones in this flick my whole life, I loved it. At first I thought it was amazing CG texturing. I've seen some CG work that came close to the look of stainless steel, but not this close. Then I realized it was all real. Stop frame animation is becoming rare, and this is excellent work. As for a plot, I don't really need a super deep plot to enjoy this flick, a full length feature film would not work, but a short such as this is fine. I think the plot is about survival of the fittest and evolution, which go hand in hand.
I would assume it is possibly a combination of both, where some parts are cgi models and textures

I know this sounds pretentious, but after my third viewing, this video should be taught in art schools. It's such an incredible piece of art. There's so much to talk about and analyze, that I could probably go on for hours typing, revising, and editing a comment to explain this video. I will live and die by the opinion that this video is DUST's magnum opus. Them at their absolute best. Such artistry and talent went into this, and with all the best works, there's so many angles and positions you can hold when talking about and analyzing it.

@@mokshambaghela4902 its evolution after us. The life the goes on after the flesh is gone. And what it is evolving towards... Which I would assume would be immortality or perfection. I may be wrong on that but after watching the few times that's what I pulled from it. between the mural near the beginning, the man in the seat and the composition of materials from beginning to end. And I think in the very beginning that was flesh in that tunnel that he walks away from after he comes off the factory line I would be willing to listen anybody's interpretation of that. that is very interesting

Life well wasted
The ingenuity and imagination, talent, skills, time and effort put into this is so beyond me. But what is beyond me more is how could some people even take effort to dislike this production which is in fact being shared for free. Or is it that some people are just plain dumb and ignorant on how such things are produced?
As a Machinist by trade, I found this film fascinating and intriguing!

ThePapa48 we are on the same page. I wonder how much was machined for the film and how much was repurposed. The coffin shaped examination table was most likely just for this. The polished square bar with the threading at the ends is probably the same. This was certainly a machinists nightmare somewhere in the process of production. Getting all the gears to play nice must have taken a great deal of patience.

Indeed, given how many of the parts used here that I actually recognized. And I'm not even on your level, I'm just a service tech. I couldn't believe what they did with some of that pasty, silver 'never seize' lubricant gel. I just bought some last week from Fastenal lol.
The robot doctor was badass too, most of the stuff on it looks hand crafted. I was going to say that this is porn to us machinists, such inventive use of machined parts gets us pretty riled up.

Interesting fact: the silver “tail” on the main protagonist is actually an item known as shield braid. It is used to surround a series of wires, known as a wire harness, to significantly reduce signal-to-noise ratio. I know because I used to work with this. And the black woven “skin” on the second creature is known as nomes sleeping, used to reduce friction and chafing on wire harnesses that would otherwise damage wires.
it can also be used to cover artificial muscles
For me it's more like anal toys than braided wire
braided steel is electrically conductive, so you won't see it on plug wires, coil, misc electricals, and etc in NHRA drag racing and hot rod communities, since spark jump between wires is likely, but it is used as physical protection for water, oil and hydraulic lines
In the aeronautics the braid is used for hydraulic /pneumatic lines.

This is kind of being in one of those dreams you have where are amazed at how detailed and cool it was. Impressive feat!
As one old enough to have seen "7th Voyage of Sinbad" (1958) and subsequent Harryhausen films when they were newly released in theaters, I gotta give it up for Mr. Foxwell. Stop-motion is like the Origami of animation and this is a superb example of the art. Not only that but the story is subtle and thought-provoking. Hats off to you, sir!

I was going to pass on this film at the start but got drawn in more and more as the film went on and watched it to the end. Great imagination. Great stop motion photography and great engineering! I couldn't decide whether all the mechanics were computer generated or real. It seems they are real. Thats a lot of work! Great job!
I can totally see how this might take ten years to make. The guy started out as a Apprentice C.N.C. Machinist, and did stop motion films as a hobby. He got rid of all his set up and scrap parts by taking them home to use for this movie haha! Slowly over the years he had enough of his parts and footage to make a movie.
I wish there was a sequel to this, this one could really use one! 6:44 sound like “corrupt music” very awesome job with the humanoid bot.

What's so bad about that story it is a hypothetical story relative obviously you are non scientifically inclined the movie is intended to spark the imagination you're the guise of relativity the fact that you cannot wrap your head around that says that you need to watch more RUclips clearly you are young and you do not understand what you are looking at the length of your comment states that as well lower intelligence what energetic frustration whereas higher intelligence will do just the opposite it wants a positive outcome and even if the outcome is not positive it will find something positive in it this is the thinking that will go on and on negative thinking it's called negative for a reason

I absolutely LOVE this Dust ... it's so easy to see why humans tend to anthropomorphize little mechanical things...
I don't think I can really fathom the lengths this person must have went to in order to create and put all this together. Many stunning creations here. It kinda gives the setting a microcosm vibe too
I loved this short, a lot of hard work clearly went into this. Cant wait to see the next step in their evolution.

so the carbon(steel) based machines learned to go to a silicon(glass) based life? Is this prophetic of what man exploring the cosmos might develop into. Us, being carbon, morphing into a more abundant , sand, or silicon based life form that would more easily live off world. I would have paid to see this gem. You had my attention from beginning to end, very well done!
Humans and all species on earth are organic machines with their own basic programing so I think the evolution already happened and is going in circle.
@@emitizmo7456 unfortunately, carbon is the only element/atom that can do such complex structures. Silicon might be somewhat similar but it can't hold its structure to become huge molecules (like proteins etc.) so UNLESS there are different rules somewhere in the universe, we have to stick to carbon.

To my knowledge carbon as an element is actually more abundant than silicon.

This animation was made over a course of 5 years, since it is a hand-made animation with a lot of objects being moved ever so slightly frame by frame. 5 years compacted into 20 minutes...how wow is that?

Loved the stop-motion animation. There isn't enough of this in the world. AND, what an interesting idea for a hip joint (actually, one joint but two legs).
yeah, i actually found that hip joint totally intriguing. Spent most of the film thinking of ways to actually control such a joint in a real robot.

Brilliant, I loved every second. As an amateur animator and hobby machinist, best still-frame animated short I have ever watched.
I forgot to comment on this video when I watched it a while ago. This is by far one of the best shorts I have ever seen by Dust or any other studio that does these types.
The humanoid that was talking about the new world almost half way through had an awesome and creepy voice. Wished there was more of that.

I've watched this film several times now and each time I spot something new. Sheer genius.
This was an absolute work of art! The time, skill, and imagination this took is amazing! There was also a clear story here.
This is so well done and smooth, I absolutely love seeing bones used in stop motion like this.
Me as mechanical engineer, this video is very much appreciated,. Especially by knowing how detailed the assembly line with gears, shafts, creatures etc. etc are made. This give the story behind the making of, another dimension and level. CHAPEAU

Absolutely outstanding, fucking beautiful! The use of stop motion in this film not to mention the odd components used to build the scenery and characters is simply genius. Very reminiscent of 80's claymation.
What an absolute masterpiece! & this isn't CGI either. I read, in the description, it's all stop motion & it took ten years to make!!! That's some serious dedication!
The different creatures & the set designs look amazing, right down to the lighting. (I noticed the colour scheme changing with the different locations & it looks like lighting plays a big part in that). I was blown away by the sound effects as well! This is one of the best shorts I've seen on Dust yet!

As a student studying sound design, I LOVE the audio and effects for this. The voice of the machine man especially sounds great.
This was incredible. Top to bottom and side to side. Reminiscent of Brothers Quay, etc however, perfectly unique and utterly captivating to behold. Bravo.
When you think it's CGI and go, "Yeah, that's not bad." Then you realize it's stop motion.

I actually got my art teacher at my highschool to play this short film. Most of the others in my class didn't see the art part of it but got creeped out by it and of course after people didn't enjoy it. It got changed to the bee movie but the next year we got to watch the full thing

2 things are certain about this short film: 1. You’ve never seen anything quite like it, and 2. It represents such a forceful and consistent clarity of aesthetic purpose, that If the maker continues to pursue a film career, the world will one day know his name. This will be his “Vincent.”

Nicely seems like an inadequate word in this case. More like something to describe pirouetting.
Except that it is stop motion, all real,moved millimeters at a time, clicking two or three frames,then moving stuff, and repeating. It took ten years to make! It's way cooler than any cgi.

It has many thematic elements: compassion, evolution, competition, Deus Ex Machina, etc. At the end, the mechanical begins to behave in a biological fashion and evolution comes full circle. Was clear to me. Hope I was helpful. I only am harsh with the retards. You obviously want to learn.

They aren't Dust's movies.
It's a platform, just the same as a TV station, that allows film makers to show their work.
