Virgil bio for SEO:
Virgil Abloh (/ˈæbloʊ/; September 30, 1980 - November 28, 2021) was an American fashion designer and entrepreneur. He began his own line of luxury streetwear clothing, Pyrex Vision, in 2012, and became the chief executive officer of the Milan-based label Off-White, a fashion house he founded in 2013. Abloh was also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection beginning in 2018, and was given increased creative responsibilities across the LVMH brand in early 2021.
A trained architect, Abloh, who also worked in Chicago street fashion, entered the world of international fashion with an internship at Fendi in 2009, alongside American rapper Kanye West. Abloh assumed the role of Creative Director at Donda, West's creative agency in 2010. The first African-American to be artistic director at a French luxury fashion house when he joined LVMH in 2018, Abloh was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world that year. Abloh's design aesthetic which bridged streetwear and luxury clothing was described as transformative by The New York Times. According to The Wall Street Journal, he reached a level of global fame unusual for a designer, and as an inspirational figure, according to the BBC.
By the end of 2018, an index of sales and consumer sentiment ranked Off-White as the hottest label in the world, surpassing Gucci. Virgil also partnered up with the Swedish furniture company IKEA to design furniture for apartments and houses as well as easy to carry tote bags with the word sculpture imprinted in the middle. The collection was named Markerad, which is a Swedish word meaning "clear-cut; crisp; pronounced", and was released in 2019. Virgil envisioned that the collection would include practical furniture featuring contemporary designs. In 2017, he was asked to design a new collection in conjunction with Nike entitled "The Ten" and he re-designed a variety of the company's best-selling shoes. Abloh worked towards fulfilling his vision for the IKEA collection by sketching out drafts of generic pieces of furniture, while adding his own aesthetics to the designs by using a doorstop to level out furniture items. Abloh worked on designs for chairs, coffee tables, beds, storage cabinets, mirrors, and carpets as part of his collaboration with IKEA. Abloh used quotation marks to convey detachment from society and social norms. During the rise in neo-nationalism in 2017 Abloh worked with conceptual artist Jenny Holzer to create a line emphasizing the positive aspects of immigration, cultural integration, and globalization. In December 2017, he worked with Holzer again to design T-shirts for Planned Parenthood in response to the Women's March on Washington.

Great vid bro !
Bro, I get you. You go deep. I married a black woman. She is my goddess. Thx so much for the vibes and inspiration. I see your journey. You are evolving. See you at the end. The only color has no color. Peace ❤
I'm an architect, and I feel Virgil designed and looked at things like an architect, the lettering the quotations, showing how the objects or shoes where made. It all looks like architectural technical drawings or detail drawings.
Sounds pompous
He did study architecture I believe.
@@bradchevy1316
Soft spoken overachievers tend to have that effect on people..
Yes you’re totally right. Virgil took inspiration from architecture and engineering
he was a marketer. he got ahold of the quotes directly out of 70s and postmodernism and literature. I guess semiotics too.. maybe his stuff was amusing but really it evoked stalin hell rather than a playfulness he wanted
Rest in peace legend, one of the saddest losses for the fashion community ever
the song "what happened to virgil?" raises some questions that no one is asking.
Not really
What exactly are those questions? The man had blood cancer... That's what happened to Vigil. We all will parish just like him, nothing more, nothing less. Everything isn't some elaborate conspiracy or secret meaning. Some things are what they are.
True story @@ShaunKang69
Not really
It was Virgil’s birthday yesterday, perfect time to post so we can celebrate this legend
Death anniversary sadly
Actually it was Kanye first girlfriend who went to school with virgil sje was a Fashion and Architectural design major She was working and interning in fashion houses. She helped kanye master his style . His girl made those samples. Kanye mentions her in his song threw the wire .
It was also Pusna T that influence the coke reference names... Pyrex and Off White
What a loss. A true creative genius who thankfully left such a great impact on all of us. Great video
He was overrated af bro.
You don’t even have to wear any of his brands to see he was a master architect, nothing short of a composer.
😂 such a ridiculous take. Off white was and is ass
Beautiful abridgment of his life story. Long live a Ghanaian legend! Just purchased the pendant as well💙
The deconstructed J1 Chicago really is a masterfully designed shoe and Virgil's best singular work.
I remember being the little kid with fake pyrex vision in class just trying to set trends. Thanks for tellin Virgils story.
He said Virgil wanted to prove to the higher ups who made the decisions that he could take what he did and make it a hit .. which he did. RIP Virgil
I just didnt knw virgil's come up but after this doc am so heartbroken to this my fellow african brother....too heartbreaking we lost a rep off us..may u rest good god
its funny to think that kanye and virgil share the same principal for art, you dont need to discover or create something totally new, you can take inspiration (like kanye's samples and use of pop sounds in his early age and virgil's 3% style) and readapt it to be refreshing
The early life portion missed an opportunity to tie in the connection to HipHop music. As well as two other legends. Pharrell and Pusha T. His vision was birthed after High School from their influence. Specifically, Pusha. Along with Michael Jordan and Caravaggio. Pharrell also had the first Louis Vuitton collection, before KanYe or Virgil along with his impact on BAPE. Virgil said that BAPE is his generation's "Chanel." Pyrex Vision was named from the song and Lil Wayne diss, "Mr. Me Too." Pusha's line, "Pyrex stirs turned to Cavalli furs." Even 'off-white' is a reference to the color of powder. In short, above all else, Virgil was HIPHOP. And that is why he was so embraced BY the culture. He wasn't just a designer, he was one of Ours sitting in those rooms and making those decisions. A true legend.
❤
I thought I'd hate this. But it's actually good..
Also not me finding out NOW that off-white was a BRAND NAME this whole time & not the COLOUR of a hoodie 💀 since 2015 in my first year of highschool
4:30 not many know but Virgil in fact worked for Kanye and Executive producer Malik Yousef for free those first 4 years, which would be few of many reasons for him and Mathew to start been trill.
The way Virgil looked at art, design and fashion was so innovative and genius, truly a legend across multiple genres and mediums of art, rest in peace virgil Abloh
Amazing video bro. From the music, commentary, to the background art.
Man this channel is so underrated. What a beautiful beautiful video thank you so much. Rest easy Virgil Abloh
As a working artist, I learned that you really learn the most when troubleshooting mistakes. If you work in a medium like computer animation or drawing, if something doesn't look right you can change it, over and over and end up over working it. But if you work in something like ceramics, much of the time it could look perfect and when it comes out of the kiln it looks totally different. It taught me to work mistakes into a piece. I think Kanye working with a creative like Virgil was probably helpful for him. He seems so confused now that he is no longer connected to working in mistakes or learning from mistakes. He is so driven to translate his vision without working in the happy accidents or another person's input that he can't finish anything.
This man is so brilliant he left his mark at the right frame in time. He brilliantly left his mark. When you get this you too are the phoenix..
Great vid man. Really well made, you can tell this comes from the heart.
ngl I found this video inspiring, I'm at a crossroads and your Virgil/Conclusion segment helped me decide on a path.

Loved this video!! Keep making more!!
He ran out of remixes and had to start breaking the mold of artistry… he was amazing at what he did…
Yooo Volksgeist! Great video as always! Maybe this would be an amazing beginning of a new series of fashion-oriented videos? I'd love to see one on Pharrell or Rihanna!
A reminder of how priveleged works. Streetware has been designed in urban centers across the country since the 80's to compliment hip hop and none of the young men and women ever got the opportunity that Abloh did. He wasn't a great designer. He used pop culture to push simple design for excessive prices. His styles were desirable based on who wore them and had access to them, not how innovative or stylish they were. Timing, social media and his relationship with Kanye worked in his favor. The intern move that Kanye got him access to was a blessing. He was an anomaly that will not be duplicated. Let's see how long it takes for a luxury brands to open their doors to a talented non famous man of African descent that is not already attached to celebrities. I'll be shocked when it happens.
Boa off white x an chrone heart collab would have been so 🔥🔥
great video

"But none of that would've ever been possible, if he weren't driven by a relentless work ethic, and a sense of creative freedom unlike anyone else"
.Agree
he became well known because in that time streewear became fashion...thats the reason
@@LD-ql1yi yall guys will believe in everything except hatd/smart work
look at pharell ..he is at LV menswear because he is 1 famous and 2 because the streetwear in fashion! not he is a great designer please!@@fet0logywhen streetwear is out...he is out..you will see

"VIRGIL WAS HERE"
Heavy.

Lupe Fiasco Ft Virgil Abloh song Shoes is amazing as well.

Virgil was the Basquiat of fashion 💯
Pyrex was so legendary. I remember wishing I could get my hands on some as a kid man
The pendants are beautiful!
great video. please make more like this!
More to come!
abloh ❤
what a legend
Kinda scary how DILLA and Virgil went in such similar ways.
This documentary was beautiful. A work of art in itself
Glazing
F with the Pendant! Keep it up🔥
Virgil gets hired at LV in 2018 and finds out he has cancer in 2019, that don't sound suspicious?
Thank you. Plus he started his own fashion house which now is struggling. He was about to change the change in terms of the affordability of high end fashion clothes and that was going to affect the exploitative fashion houses and they wanted him off the earth.
I think they gave bro cancer?
SO WELL TOLD.
I worked at Ed Hardy corporate when Kanye came there to have a meeting with Christian about Pastelle. Some stuff was mocked up but never made.
I respect the words at the end
Can you Put rights in patterns on the styles??????? Cause that's the jurassic park lettering😮 7:37
8:24 rare carti sighting
I'm not absolutely sure but I believe Kanye didn't continue with his clothing brand Mascot was because at the time 50 Cent had all the attention and eyes of people including me still a fan of his and the G Unit brand. They were involved in the clothing, shoe and drink like Vitamin Water so at the time he probably wouldn't be able to do very well. I even bought G Unit reebok sneakers and a G Unit sweater.
He shifted the paradigm.
