Aside from his untimely sad death, his work was nothing short of plagiarism and hype. No individuality or substance. Imagine this dude graffiting on existing designs and reselling them without a licencing agreement at 700 percent profit.

Very well done! I was so proud of Kanye when he went to Virgil’s LV show. My heart broke for him. It’s almost not fair to call Virgil an apprentice to Kanye. He seemed like much more of a creative partner and the one who was giving Kanye’s ideas life. It’s so sad that he died so young.
Wow I didn't know this story at all. When Kanye went to paris fashion show I remember how he was made fun of on all the top fashion blogs. Virgil is right, now seeing rappers at fashion shows is normal. Even seeing NBA stars dressing in high fashion is. He really pioneered a new era in black fashion and doesnt get the credit he deserves.

I learned so much about Yè and Virgil just from watching this video.
Virgil being an engineer... He's about creating and designing. He has the mind, technicalities and creativity for it. Not just about liking "nice clothes".
Now I can understand Kanye's breakdown. All his interviews never made that 100% clear.
Always made sense to me.

Kanye wanted 100% creative control and an option to build an empire. LV and Nike would not let him do it. But Adidas did. Now he has a billion dollar company. His breakdown had nothing to do with this.

That was an inspiring quote, the way he said it played a big part. I'd never listened to Jay up until that point but I could see why he made it. It's a breakfast club quote.
There seems to be so much love and respect between these men. No indication from Kanye of any kind of resentment. Just honesty about his own feelings and admiration for Virgil. RIP VA.
Watching this coincidentally 4 years to the day it was uploaded. How life shifted for both of these guys and the context in which their work exists has become completley transformed. RIP VA.

What Kanye has done in fashion is pretty amazing
The rise of streetwear makes sense, a lot of kids from the '90s and early 2000s that used to skateboard, graffiti, and listen to hip hop now have jobs and disposable income, but they still want to wear cool shit. Virgil is capturing the zeitgeist of that, and the fact that demographic now has money to blow.
