Louis Vuitton chose Virgil as he was the safest option , someone who will do what the board of directors tells him to do. Kanye has his own opinion and speaks his mind often so that would not be good for there image , Ye the goat tho , Virgil was put there to bring attraction back to the brand that it has not seen this much hype since the peak of the Marc Jacobs era at LV.
Actually I think they just looked at a star making big designer moves and aimed for the man behind the star in an attempt to cripple the competition by brain draining
"Kanye is fearless. He's like a cowboy, like the scout.. he's the one that runs to the top of the hill, sees all these Indians with bows and arrows pointed at us, and runs back out of breath like 'yo, there's a lot of them over there!!'" - Jay Z
@@nr126 - it wasn't a diss.. he was praising Ye for being an innovator and having the courage to "go where no man has gone before". Virgil said basically the exact same thing toward the end of this interview..
That was an inspiring quote, the way he said it played a big part. I'd never listened to Jay up until that point but I could see why he made it. It's a breakfast club quote.
Why cant Kanye be like Lebron or Michael Jordan and keep his mouth shut? I believe he would have been 1000 times more celebrated and revered. But his fucked up personality is what makes him Kanye also.
The rise of streetwear makes sense, a lot of kids from the '90s and early 2000s that used to skateboard, graffiti, and listen to hip hop now have jobs and disposable income, but they still want to wear cool shit. Virgil is capturing the zeitgeist of that, and the fact that demographic now has money to blow.
And the funniest thing to me is that a lot of skaters nowadays are so elitist about shit that was pioneered decades ago. I’ve met hella kids at parks that have strong ass opinions on streetwear and “posers” but a lot of these dudes follow re-emerging trends from the 90’s.
Kanye wanted 100% creative control and an option to build an empire. LV and Nike would not let him do it. But Adidas did. Now he has a billion dollar company. His breakdown had nothing to do with this.
Kanye went tsp dancing in Paris. Kim hot robbed of her diamonds and Kanye hot robbed of his dreams. Hence the mental breakdown . To be hinting.Kanye need to humble self. Confidence is quiet. Arrogance is loud.
Ye I love up to you bro. Everything you said about how you’re not even a real musician due to not playing in instrument is powerful. We all are students and are capable of learning and adapting. That statement was low key power.
Man Kanye has done so much for the culture...When Virgil said, Ye was like "come on we going to fashion week, he started the revolution" ... RIP Virgil Abloh
Both of them coming from a different background with different ideas that met and realized that they were the dynamic duo of fashion. As time past that duo grew to be more dynamic and notable fir both Ye and Virgil. Then Kanye signs with Adidas while Virgil works on his own projects. Kanye gets close to getting reaching his endgame goal, but it never happened and Virgil gets it instead. Yet when it’s at its most likely point where that bond is broken. Virgil invites Kanye to his first show and that embrace signified much more than a simple friendship, but in that Virgil didn’t “make it” but that they both made it. Now while Virgil leads Louis Vuitton and the fashion scene, Kanye now leads the street wear scene, fitting. This story is much more than just a storyline but an inspiration and a success story of how they finally “made it” in each of their own ambitions, great story with an equally as great video.
i cannot believe he was just taken from the world like that. a pioneer and didnt even get the time on this earth he deserved to show his full potential??? just messed up. im getting emotional watching this. everyone involved in the makings of virgil's greatness and the people around him with their ideas and dreams should be so proud of themselves. its so sad and he genuinely seemed like the most sweet well intentioned guy with all his obstacles. i cant even imagine how sad it would be to work at LV now with virgil gone.
I'm from Malaysia, we don't get a lot of news like this where I am but even I know they took Virgil because he will be more compliant then Ye. Kanye is a visionary that will and needs to break boundaries where the Old industries are reluctant to do. He moves too fast for them with his creativity. When they can't keep up, the label him crazy. Not knowing that they're the ones standing still or moving too slow.
Untrue. Virgil stopped Pyrex because he got a cease and desist from the cutlery brand 'Pyrex" (who have been around for years and years before him)... thats why he made off- white.
Kanye didn’t want that job, and have his dream jobs now, he worked with Louis Vuitton. Kanye wanted an actual clothing line which is why he went to adidas.

Quick fact: Virgil used to buy hundreds of discounted Ralph Polo flannels for 40-50 dollars a piece, remove any branding from Ralph like the tags, stamp his "PYREX 23" logo on it and mark it up for 300+
While I don't see the appeal for Virgil's clothing line Offwhite, his work at LV has definitely improved from the poor cuts in his very first collection. Man's a hustler
Paul R this could be why he ended Pyrex so quickly, as he was getting attention and it looked bad rebranding existing clothes
P R in honesty I don't think his partnership will last longer then the Adidas and kanye partnership.
Counterfeit
“ I could never have a Virgil in my circle and hold him back cuz he makes me nervous. I wanna see my brothers flourish to their highest purpose”
The irony is that he's literally held back all his artist and ghost writers for that exact reason i.e. the weeknd
Oooooooooooooh so that’s what drake meant. Well ok.
@@chaunceyjames3628 The Weeknd never signed to Drake and all of his artist have free reign to release whenever they want. They've already said that.
@cloudykai the good half of take care

Kanye needs to realise he has a bigger cultural impact than Louis Vuitton and him not getting to work under them isn't a bad thing.
True but he saw them like say Kobe saw Jordan.
Hait he can make his own
I think he does know that
Shawn Kemp except nike?, i’d stay with Adidas, Nike did Kanye wrong.
Pretty sure he realizes that now lol you’re late. Yeezy is a billion dollar brand now
Damn! I didn’t realize how emotional this was gonna be- good work highlighting these amazing accomplishments of both Virgil and Ye ❤️ Rest Peacefully 👑!

I feel like this is so much more powerful that Virgil got here with Kanye’s love and support than Kanye just getting it alone
They BOTH Won. they also remained friends and supporters of one another. That’s Dope....YEEZY definitely upgraded the culture tho.....
Lol, Kanye wanted him to have that job!
True that 💜
The only way💜
Damn I remember watching this for the first time a year or so ago & learning so much about fashion & designing in 2020. It was definitely a life changing year for me. Thankful for all the inspirations that walk this earth & thankful for people like you who make these videos.
this video is so well made
Kanye's REAL dream job was to be creative director at HERMÈS tho. he's mentioned that multiple times.
Nigga wants to be Gaultier so bad lol
He needs to just come out the closet. It’s ok, it’s 2020. Enough already. We know, they know. It’s ok KanGAY. We know.
h28v he needs to just come out the closet to be honest.

Exactly , Kanye is too bipolar in what he does , he would cost the hundreds of millions of dollars with his remarks
@@IMaBeastDoWatDEn Kanye made a 1.5 billion brand man.

I love how a youtuber with 74k+ subscribers created a short documentary about two titans in the fashion industry.
"Kanye is fearless. He's like a cowboy, like the scout.. he's the one that runs to the top of the hill, sees all these Indians with bows and arrows pointed at us, and runs back out of breath like 'yo, there's a lot of them over there!!'" - Jay Z
J be dissing him Fam like wild. A Scout lol
@@nr126 - it wasn't a diss.. he was praising Ye for being an innovator and having the courage to "go where no man has gone before". Virgil said basically the exact same thing toward the end of this interview..
@@djmannystylz1285 if that's how you read it.
What interview is that from?
That was an inspiring quote, the way he said it played a big part. I'd never listened to Jay up until that point but I could see why he made it. It's a breakfast club quote.
As a Ghanaian I really feel... can't even finish the statement. Its really painful to hear he's gone. R.I.P
What Kanye has done in fashion is pretty amazing
Bro it’s scary Kanye may be more impactful in fashion than he is in music. That’s crazy man Kanye will be forever a legend🐐🐐
He has huge impact both in fashion and music
You serious?? Every popular & unpopular song today has the influence on Kanye West.
Why cant Kanye be like Lebron or Michael Jordan and keep his mouth shut? I believe he would have been 1000 times more celebrated and revered. But his fucked up personality is what makes him Kanye also.
@@robotube7361 Lebron? Lol he is a Chinese puppet, he has no right to express himself as much as Kanye under his contracts
@@Randarrradara Thats the reason kanye has no contract.
Martin K. perfectly put!
Exactly
Smart comment.
And the funniest thing to me is that a lot of skaters nowadays are so elitist about shit that was pioneered decades ago. I’ve met hella kids at parks that have strong ass opinions on streetwear and “posers” but a lot of these dudes follow re-emerging trends from the 90’s.
Skrt Reynolds lol look at supreme, trasher, elesse.... kids nowadays are clueless
Rip Virgil Abloh. You truly never know what someone is going through
Now I can understand Kanye's breakdown. All his interviews never made that 100% clear.
Always made sense to me.
And I thought it was solely related to his wife and mother of his children being held at gunpoint...
Kanye wanted 100% creative control and an option to build an empire. LV and Nike would not let him do it. But Adidas did. Now he has a billion dollar company. His breakdown had nothing to do with this.
Best part of the story is that there’s a happy ending for their friendship, no animosity between he two.
No happy ending after all
This comment didn't age well lol. October 2022 -- people come out claiming Kanye was a dick to Virgil before his death and everyone knew about it.
I didn’t know Kanye went so hard on fashion, big up to both of them.
what rock you been living under?
🤨
Kanye went tsp dancing in Paris. Kim hot robbed of her diamonds and Kanye hot robbed of his dreams. Hence the mental breakdown . To be hinting.Kanye need to humble self. Confidence is quiet. Arrogance is loud.
Unfortunately now was the right time to watch this, thanks for making this video mate. Rest in peace Virgil
Please don’t stop making these! Their such high quality for being made by one person, I can’t imagine what you could create with a proper budget!❤️
had to watch this after his MSPAINT edit of pop smoke lmao
Ye I love up to you bro. Everything you said about how you’re not even a real musician due to not playing in instrument is powerful. We all are students and are capable of learning and adapting. That statement was low key power.
Man Kanye has done so much for the culture...When Virgil said, Ye was like "come on we going to fashion week, he started the revolution" ... RIP Virgil Abloh
Better title would’ve been, “How Virgil Abloh Became LV’s Creative Director,” but I understand gotta get those views.
Anita Tekila Agreed!
I mean. He drops a video a month for a reason. These take a lot of time to make, if he can get some money and recognition off it then even better
One of the best videos I've ever seen. Very well collected and all round enjoyable. Thank you Jake

Virgil is a student. That's why he got it. Ultimately everyone won.
i cannot believe he was just taken from the world like that. a pioneer and didnt even get the time on this earth he deserved to show his full potential??? just messed up. im getting emotional watching this. everyone involved in the makings of virgil's greatness and the people around him with their ideas and dreams should be so proud of themselves. its so sad and he genuinely seemed like the most sweet well intentioned guy with all his obstacles. i cant even imagine how sad it would be to work at LV now with virgil gone.
This been in my recommendations a GOOD lil minute. Fine.
Lmao me too

Untrue. Virgil stopped Pyrex because he got a cease and desist from the cutlery brand 'Pyrex" (who have been around for years and years before him)... thats why he made off- white.
then an italian brand stole everything pyrex did, named it "pyrex original" and said they made it before virgil lmao
I just found out about Virgil's story because of the Kanye interviews last week. Wow, amazing story! He did so much in his short time on this planet.
Kanye didn’t want that job, and have his dream jobs now, he worked with Louis Vuitton. Kanye wanted an actual clothing line which is why he went to adidas.

He didn’t pass Kanye what so ever. Kanye owns royalties for his yeezy Brand, he is set to make a billion off his company, he is the creative director and doesn’t answer to anyone.

You're very good at deconstructing all of this. Normally I just watch a Kanye interview and he seems to begin ranting wildly from nowhere, this gives a little context as to why the fashion stuff was so prevalent in his mind during interviews.

There seems to be so much love and respect between these men. No indication from Kanye of any kind of resentment. Just honesty about his own feelings and admiration for Virgil. RIP VA.
