The ending of this video from 28:58 is wild... Abloh talking taking us down memory lane, nice sound at the background, Ye's infamous note, Virgil was here in the sky, and you saying "And with that, this is over" 🔥🔥🔥 Beautiful
@@shatteredscythe who said I wasn’t myself, I just needed an uplifting moment at a stressful time in life 🤞🏽 respectfully don’t assume over the internet 🫶🏽
Your video essay was concise, and showed that you had gained more than surface deep level of understanding the subject, how it has affected us and how it will possibly continue to have an influence over us as we wait for that next Warhol, Basquiat and Virgil Abloh to hold up a mirror and show us us the way we want to be seen, vs the way might see ourselves - art is the ultimate form of reinventing one’s true self. And I subscribed - great job!
Japanese street fashion culture, what's their approach to street fashion, how's it different from say, the West... When i got interested in street fashion, little did i know the name Japan would pop up again and again, since they're mostly known for Tech, Anime and stuff... I was intrigued. Now i want to visit the place to watch and learn, if possible, study.
I always had this theory where being different in anything you do will separate one’s art from others. The point of cross pollinating genres resonates with me because if I specialize in one craft and learn everything under the sun about it. The likelihood of being burnt out and creatively exhausted will be much easier and faster.
I really love this video! I recently bought the louis vuitton book on virgil while on a trip to paris. Now reading through it during my holiday and it's been so inspiring. Your video does really well to encapsulate some of virgil's core ideas
Please listen to SHOES by lupe fiasco ft Virgil Abloh. I think this might be the last and latest words of Virgil Abloh’s creative process before he passed. The whole project HOUSE is with Virgil It’s just amazing to hear him explain his thoughts.
All I know is that most things in life are subjective, so is Art, and so is this subject of Virgil Abloh with his concept! But I have nothing against it! RIP to him by the way!
As I look at and fully understand this video I’ve come to the realization to a certain group of very powerful people this guy and his perspective and his impact on the youth of the world “WAS VERY FUCKIN DANGEROUS “ especially if is focus would one day change from design to something else more influential like media!
the work was rough being 1 person doing everything. The obvious answer is to just re-take but it isn't that easy, try doing a video like this and you'll see what I mean. it wasn't perfect but I know what the issue was and how to fix it in the future.
Virgil’s thought process was very interesting and thoughtful. But I think he was a net negative to art/fashion community as a whole. His 3% philosophy gives anyone a very lazy framework to plagiarize someone else’s hard work. It promotes thoughtless over production
It's interesting how posthumous idealization is at play with Virgil Abloh though. When he was alive, his 3% philosophy was pretty controversial, criticized for giving people an easy way to copy other designers. But since he sadly passed away, it seems like that criticism has faded away for the most part. While it's natural for views to change, people should remember the original debates and not let them get lost just because Virgil's no longer with us. RIP Virgil.
@@ANDR14. his tragic passing reminded us how much he had achieved in such a short period of time. He wasn’t only involved in fashion, but DJing at festivals and some clubs, and having art exhibitions on displays as well (plus something else, it’s Virgil lol). I think The Casual put it the best when he said Virgil had achieved about four lifetime’s worth of work in his short life. It’s truly inspiring how much he has achieved. But in regards to his 3% philosophy, I think it’s a good starting point for beginners to attain some confidence and deconstruction of art. But they should move on from it and find their own voice/expression.
@@OwnD1 Totally agree that beginners should be doing that but later on and sooner than most think, I believe its very wrong and very lazy to pretty much blatantly copy someones work and say its yours. Its changing out the color of the buttons on a blazer and the cuff maybe and calling it a new thing. Its immitation and not innovation.
I agree. I think if I were to give more of an analytical overview versus an informative one (like this video) I'd be against the use of principles like the 3% rule
Yeah, the 3% rule of taking someones concepts and changing them by 3% classifies him as "genius" ..At the end of the day, if he wasnt affiliated with Kanye, he would have never went far . He has stolen a lot of ideas and he only gets praised by Kanye stans . He's not truly respected by his peers of artisans and designers. Just being real. Other than that, RIP
@@gabrielemilioquesquen768 spoken like a true Kanye Stan It’s not hard to capitalize on your opportunities or at the expense of other’s creativity when you’re Kanye affiliated. This is about clout and not talent, skill . If you watched the entire video, Even Virgil said “I’m not that good”
