    In the UK we have sprints and hill climbs (point to point against the clock). The Model 3 is perfect for those, and can beat most ‘gas’ cars.

    Awesome job! I am planning to take my 2023 M3P to the track next year and your videos have been very helpful. Keep them coming!

    RUclips algorithm brought me here. You're probably going to get a million views soon

      Ha, maybe! But I think doing a video on cybertruck track mods would be better click bait right now.

    If you use cooling party controller you can limit the power draw to a certain level. The car will go 4-5 seconds slower around a 2 minute track but that will help you develop as a driver. Driver mod is the best mod after all.

    This is funny, I'm only wearing the right earbud when I work, and I couldn't hear anything because the right channel on this video is mute. :D

      That’s hilarious.. I need to fix that in future videos

    Thank you for making this video. So many Tesla videos come from people with no true automotive background and don't know all the nuances. What is your opinion on the new model 3 performance? Debating that or a 2022+ used model S. They will be roughly the same price

      Thanks! To be fair, I don't have an automotive background, but do have an engineering background so I see everything as a set of tradeoffs.
      The new M3P looks like great performance for your $, but I personally wouldn't upgrade to it. I think for serious track use you will still want to upgrade a number of components, but I'm sure out of the box it will be quite a bit better. I wish they had addressed the battery/heating issues.. that would have been a game changer, especially if enabled you to run all out for more of a 20 minute session.
      It looks like the latest Porsche Taycan has made some significant improvements in battery performance, but then again it is a >$200k car.
      I think your choice depends on your needs. If you want to track it, I think the M3P would be the way to go.. if not, depends on what you like, how much space you need, etc.
      I have a 2016 Model S and it is worthless on a track. It's good for a lap and a total boat. However, it is nice to drive around town since the suspension is so much softer than the modified M3P.

      @@teslatrackdays2819 For the new m3p looks like they don't allow you customize your regen preference in track mode so the battery heating problem might be worse. I've driven the taycan turbo on a small track pre update and didn't like it at all. Big car with a cramp interior, felt like the worst of both worlds. Torn between the looks and much usable space of the model s for daily (love the hatch) or get the extra performance of the m3p. Either decision I was hoping to pair it with a more fun side car rx7, nd Miata or c8 Vette.

    The oil cooler could become really effective with a higher CFM fan and dry ice mods--that is my plan.

    It would also be interesting if someone would go modify a Model 3 to be much more aggressive at cooling the battery and motor. Faster pump, different fluid, maybe large reservoir and radiator.

      Agree, something I'd love to tinker with but I don't have time. The only aftermarket company I know that is looking into that is MPP, but I could be wrong. The others just don't seem that focused on cooling.

  • @zeitgeist888
    @zeitgeist888 4 месяца назад +1

    Nice. Are the heating issues motor only, battery or both? Have you considered a larger radiator for added cooling?

    • @teslatrackdays2819
      @teslatrackdays2819  4 месяца назад +1

      I mainly see it on the battery.. at least if I am reading the display correctly. I have looked at adding a radiator, possibly the mountain pass cooling package but didn't want to spend the money (yet).

      @@teslatrackdays2819 Cool. I just recently found your channel and am looking at getting a Tesla and want to see how it would do compared to my other ICE cars I have tracked over the years. Does AMP have any RV hook ups or something nearby for 220v RV plug to help with between session charging some?

    Did a lap in a 2016 camaro SS, an m3p, and a p100d, all back to back in the same day.
    -p100d, aweful, my lord. What a boat. I have no idea why so many reviewers think it handles well
    -camaro, one of the best handling cars I’ve ever driven. The handling wipes the floor with anything made by tesla. If you’re a track guy you need to try one. Doesn’t need any mods to be amazing.
    -m3p, lightning fast turn in and direction changes, corner exit was incredible, but mid corner was just terrible! I was shocked how bad it not only performed mid corner, but it felt horrible too. I immediately thought to myself man an m3p would be absolutely perfect with some coilovers and some chassis strengthening mods. I’m not sure if you’ve tried anything to stiffen up the chassis, and I haven’t done research on this, but it feels like the chassis is pretty loose on the m3p. You might have a lot to gain there. If you want to feel an amazing chassis, drive a GM alpha chassis. Doesn’t matter which one or which trim. Cadillac ATS, cts, or camaro. You will immediately notice the difference the chassis makes. Might make you consider chassis bracing items like strut tower bars, a non invasive cage, or an x brace under the vehicle. Anyway, just an idea. I understand that reviews don’t really talk about this much, but it might just be because they never drove the billion dollar alpha chassis right before driving the tesla.

      I've had similar experiences with stock Teslas. Both a stock Model S (not plaid) and the Model 3 were absolutely boats on a track. I found the stock M3P to be scary in high speed corners.
      The performance coilovers and stiffening the dampers made a big difference all around but I agree with you on mid corner handling.. it kind of feels dead. I'd love to be able to dial more oversteer into the car so it is more "playful".
      Would love to try the other cars you mentioned as a point of comparison but haven't had the opportunity.

    Yes, it's a great track car, from the perspective of a lemur. It's very heavy, it' battery operated and batteries will hopefully run empty before they overheat, it's a fire hazard that people on the track are not ready to deal with and you are a danger to everyone else on the track more so than if you had a regular vehicle. You do you buddy, but if you damage me, I'll do me. Let us know when you have to replace the battery pack and did you scrap the car or coughed up >$50K.
